Kamala Harris and the Too-Late Solution

Most Israelis are not expert on matters pertaining to New Hampshire, Iowa, or Delaware. In similar vein, residents of New Hampshire, Iowa, and Delaware are not expert on matters regarding Israel. As a result, we get people like Joe Biden, Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Queen Nancy Pelosi, King Obama, and Kamala Harris foolishly and ignorantly pronouncing their support for a “Two-State Solution” that would divide Israel by allotting the Jews the western portion of the land and crafting a pseudo-nation for Arabs on the eastern portion of the land. Actually, “Israel” and “Palestine” are the same thing, just like “Siam” and “Thailand.” Until May 1948, the Jewish country under British colonial rule was called “Palestine.” After the Jews decolonized and liberated the land, it was named “Israel.” The Arabs of Judea, Samaria, and Gaza have shown even Israel’s “peace camp” that they never will recognize the legitimacy of a Jewish country in the Middle East.  There already are 22 Arab Muslim countries. There is only one Jewish polity. The proponents of this “Two-State Solution” would call the Jewish half “Israel” and the Arab Muslim half “Palestine.” It would matter no differently if they would call the Jewish half “Palestine” and the Arab Muslim half “Israel.” It is one and the same land, even less divisible than the United States was when several southern states declared that they would create their own country from the whole. They called it the “Confederate States of America.” They could just as well have called it “Palestine.” It was not going to happen. Those who live in a world of reality know that the “Two-State Solution” is now the “Too Late Delusion.” That train has left that station just as Pete Buttigieg perhaps finally can confirm that the train has left East Palestine, Ohio. “Back in the day,” there was an illusion and delusion that the Arab Muslims of Judea and Samaria wanted to “make peace” with Israel. There was the “Rogers Plan” proposed by President Nixon’s Secretary of State, William Rogers. Then Gerald Ford sent Henry Kissinger to shuttle and create such a deal. Jimmy Carter sent Cyrus Vance. George H.W. Bush had James Baker. Bill Clinton sent Madeleine Albright. George W. Bush sent Condoleezza Rice. Obama had Hillary. A “Two-State Solution” never happened. It was and always will be a delusion. President Trump and his secretary of state, Mike Pompeo, were the first and only who figured out it will never happen. The Arabs of Judea, Samaria, and Gaza have shown even Israel’s “peace camp” that they never will recognize the legitimacy of a Jewish country in the Middle East. They deny there was a Jewish Holy Temple, which thereby denies all of Christianity, too. Indeed, they have driven great Christian communities out of the region. Jewish “peace camp” types did not fully grasp Arab Muslim designs until Yasser Arafat was offered 97 percent of Judea and Samaria plus control over East Jerusalem plus extra land from northern Israel, where the population is majority Arab. That is, he was offered everything by Israel’s weakest and most hated Prime Minister, Ehud Barak, who was ousted after his first term. Only then did we and even Bill Clinton, who brokered that disastrous Oslo deal, come to realize that, sonovogun, the guy does not want peace but, rather, Israel utterly eradicated. Ever since then, the Israeli majority understands that the Arab Muslims on their east will not recognize Jews’ right to any country. Obama spent eight years pressuring Israel to give those Arab Muslims anything they asked for. They never had so pliable a White House. But they opted instead to keep going to war. They elected a lifelong Arab terrorist, Abu Mazen (also goes by Mahmoud Abbas), as head of a “Palestine Authority.” He is in the 19th year of his four-year term. Got that? Nineteen years ago, he was elected to a four-year term by the Arabs of Judea and Samaria, and he never allowed another election. Democrats have no qualms about deeming Abu Mazen/Mahmoud Abbas as the rightful leader of the Arabs of Judea and Samaria. Jews in Israel tried to see whether they could get anywhere with Arafat or this successor, and they even entered into the Oslo Accords of 1993. A material term of that deal required Arafat and Abbas to stop inculcating their schoolchildren to murder Jews. They breached the contract and instead intensified such training, even setting up summer camps for kids to learn to be terrorists. In American schools, kids have to learn Longfellow’s description of Paul Revere’s midnight ride or Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address. By contrast, in the section of Judea and Samaria presently run by Muslim Arabs like Abbas, the children spend summer learning to recite songs and poems about slaughtering Jews. This has continued 30 years unabated since the Oslo “peace deal” was signed. Israelis have learned the hard way: Arab Muslims do not honor sworn peace deals they sign with Israel. They simply want Israel dead. “Peace negotiations” merely are a tactic to break Israeli morale and induce Western governments to pressure Israel. In the Oslo Accords, the Arabs promised — as a material element of the contract — that they no longer would agitate against Israel in international forums. That means all the recent activity in the “International Court of [In]justice” and “International Criminal Court” aimed against Israel violates the 1993 Oslo Accords. The treaty has been breached over and over, and it is null and void. The Israeli political center and moderate left were told they would have peace with Gaza if they handed it over to the Muslim Arabs, so they did in 2005. Israel got Hamas in Gaza. They were told they would have peace with Lebanon if they handed over a swath of neutral demilitarized territory to the Muslim Arabs. So they did. Israel got Hezbollah. Over time, Hamas developed and received from Iran rockets and missiles that almost can reach central Israel from the south, and Hezbollah has developed and received from Iran rockets and missiles that almost can reach central Israel from the north. Accordingly, times have changed forever. Not only the Israeli center-right but also the middle-of-the roaders and the moderate left absolutely now are on record that Judea and Samaria are off the table. If Arab Muslims ever got a sovereign country there, in light of October 7 and its aftermath, the Jewish country would not be able to function. As a result, the Knesset recently voted 68-9 — that is, 88.3 percent to 11.7 percent, a proportion of 8-1 — that Judea and Samaria are permanently part of Israel. The resolution: The Knesset of Israel firmly opposes the establishment of a Palestinian state west of the Jordan. The establishment of a Palestinian state in the heart of the Land of Israel would pose an existential danger to the State of Israel and its citizens, perpetuate the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and destabilize the region.… As of last December 31, there are some 340,000 Jews living in eastern parts of Jerusalem and its surrounding neighborhoods and 517,407 more throughout the rest of Judea and Samaria. Thus, there are now 860,000 Jews there, comprising approximately one-tenth of the entire Israeli population — and they would have to be uprooted from their homes to meet the demands of a “Two-State Solution.” The very notion is preposterous. It is not going to happen. Here is why this discussion is important to all Americans in the Kamala Harris context: As so many have written, Kamala Harris is not a thinker. She will start off well by holding big rallies and delivering to each assemblage a speech written by someone else who can think. She can read fine, and she will read and cackle. Her cackling and personal character stains will not derail her. Rather, she will run into trouble over the next three months when she has to talk off-script: maybe in TV and radio interviews, maybe in debates, but it will come up. That is when she becomes a deer in headlights because (i) she will stumble into territory she does not know, and (ii) does not know how to know. So she will spout plans and programs and parrot others’ ideas, presenting them as her own. Her abysmal ignorance will emerge when she is forced by circumstances to go off script. When she lectured Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu that she expects Israel to pursue a “Two-State Solution,” she simply muttered an old and tired proposal from the 1970s and 1980s that is as obsolete, out of touch with the times, as are most cars from those years. Half a century has passed. Circumstances have changed. Even Israel’s moderate left has learned the lesson taught by Hamas on the ceded south and Hezbollah on the ceded north. Israelis have watched the advancement of missiles and rockets these past 50 years. Moreover, one million Jews, a tenth of the population, now live in Judea and Samaria. The Knesset now is on record at 8-1 that there will never be an Arab sovereignty west of the Jordan. Israel’s haters on American campuses can thank themselves, in part, for chanting “From the River to the Sea, Palestine Will Be Free.” They reopened the question whether the area is suitable to accommodate two countries. They make an excellent point; Israel’s Knesset now agrees. The point and message have been heard all over Israel: only one country, not two, can exist between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea. Kamala Harris, reading from someone else’s script advocating a “Two-State Solution,” does not grasp that such a proposal instead is a Too Late Delusion. Judea and Samaria will remain under Jewish sovereignty. Watch closely as Harris, despite all the early media hype, starts stumbling over facts, proposals, and ideas she does not understand. The Harris excitement will abate, and her unsuitability will become palpable with the passage of time as we unburden what has been. When Grandparents Are Called to Parent

When Grandparents Are Called to Parent

In his acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention, Vice-Presidential nominee J. D. Vance referred to his grandmother as his “guardian angel by my side.” Acknowledging the important role that his grandmother played in rescuing him from a chaotic household with an unstable mother with a series of husbands and boyfriends and a drug problem, Vance dedicated his best-selling memoir, Hillbilly Elegy, to his grandparents, who were, he writes, “without question or qualification, the best things that ever happened to me.” It is not a coincidence that the state with the highest drug overdose mortality in the country is also the state with the highest numbers of grandparents raising grandchildren. Vance understands better than most that grandparents are needed now more than ever before. Stepping in to fill the void that parents are leaving in the wake of parental substance abuse, incarceration, parental mental health issues, or death, the most recent U.S. Census data shows that 7.1 million American grandparents are living with their grandchildren under 18. More than 2.3 million of those grandparents are fully responsible for raising their grandchildren and about a third of those grandchildren in the care of these grandparents are younger than 6 years old. This is not just an urban problem. “Split-generation” households — households that are formed by grandparents when parents are no longer able to take of their own children — are equally common in central cities and in rural areas. In urban areas, split generation households are more likely to be poor and Black, while those in rural areas — like that of J.D. Vance who often describes himself as a “Hillbilly” — are more likely to be white. Appalachia has been hardest hit. In fact, West Virginia has the highest rates of split households in the country. Over half of the grandparents in most counties in West Virginia report that they are raisingtheir grandchildren. Most research indicates that this high rate of split households is primarily due to West Virginia’s drug epidemic. It is not a coincidence that the state with the highest drug overdose mortality in the country is also the state with the highest numbers of grandparents raising grandchildren. West Virginia has a drug overdose rate of more than 90 per 100,000 individuals. That is nearly three times the national rate of overdose of 32 per 100,000. The only other states that comes close are Kentucky and the District of Columbia, which have rates about half of that of West Virginia. J.D. Vance is correct that his grandparents — like all grandparents who are willing to step into the void left by abusive or neglectful parents — are truly the “guardian angels” when it comes to keeping children out of the state system of foster care. This is not to say that his grandparents were perfect people. And for this perceived imperfection, Vance has been recently vilified by the left. An especially vitriolic article published recently in the New Yorker accused Vance of having a distorted view of women’s roles and the importance of fathers. Criticizing Vance for yearning for a traditional two-parent family, theNew Yorker article described Vance as nostalgic for a time when “the ideal matriarch [is one whose] place is at home. Their job, which they have no choice whether to quit, is to have babies. Their entire material well-being is tied to one fallible man.” Denigrating Vance’s grandmother as a woman with “meager education, no skills or training, little in the way of a social network, and quite possibly, serious mental-health challenges,” the New Yorker author claims that “Perhaps to bolster his Second Amendment bona fides, he shared an affectionate anecdote about the nineteen loaded handguns that Mamaw kept scattered around her house.” The attacks on Vance — and his family history — have recently escalated as the left is now claiming that Vance is using his chaotic family situation to call for strengthening traditional families — at the expense of women. He was especially vilified for an unfortunate comment he made in 2021 in a Fox News interview when he said that “We are effectively run in this country via the Democrats, via our corporate oligarchs, by a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they’ve made and so they want to make the rest of the country miserable too.” Vance knows — as we all must know — that a two-parent stable family is the best way to raise children. Vance has suffered the pain of a fractured chaotic family and was rescued by imperfect grandparents who loved him. These grandparents — flawed as they may have been — were the best thing to happen to a young J.D. Vance.  We should be grateful to them and to all of the grandparents who are stepping up to raise their grandchildren in what is an increasingly chaotic culture. Harris’s Fracking Blunder

Harris’s Fracking Blunder

Pennsylvania is seriously in play. Yes, it is my home state and I live here. But the repeated presence of former President Trump — not only is he returning to Butler, the site of his almost-assassination, in the energy-rich west. On Wednesday he will be returning to the traditionally Republican stronghold of Central Pennsylvania, in this case Harrisburg. And yes, while the city itself has Democrat streaks, the surrounding rural and suburban counties have forever and a day been red. Sometimes vibrantly so. And the trick always for a statewide Republican candidate is to maximize the GOP turnout in Central Pennsylvania. Combine Central Pennsylvania and its south to north up-the-middle geography to Northeast and Northwest counties and you have what is known in state politics as the “T.” The “T” is the counterweight to Democrat-run Philadelphia in the east and Democrat-run Pittsburgh in the West. Importantly, add in the Southwestern portion of the state outside Pittsburgh and the Harris problem comes clear. Take this recent headline from Fox News: VP Harris faces backlash in crucial swing state after her ‘disastrous’ anti-fracking position resurfaces The key swing state of Pennsylvania is the second-largest natural gas producing state in the country The story reports: Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris is facing renewed criticism for her past support of banning fracking, which she boldly proclaimed while running for president in 2019, particularly from critics pointing out the popularity of fracking in Rust Belt states like Pennsylvania. “There’s no question I’m in favor of banning fracking,” Harris said during a 2019 town hall on CNN as a presidential candidate. “And starting with what we can do on day one around public lands, right? And then there has to be legislation, but, yes, that’s’ something I’ve taken on in California. I have a history of working on this issue and to your point we have to just acknowledge that the residual impact of fracking is enormous in terms of the health and safety of communities.” In a statement to Fox News Digital, National Republican Congressional Committee spokesman Mike Marinella, said, “Kamala Harris is the most far left progressive presidential nominee in history, and extreme Democrats in the Rust Belt now own every single policy she supports.” “A fracking ban would be disastrous for workers and families, and extreme Democrats’ mission to force Biden to step aside and replace him with San Francisco radical Kamala Harris shows exactly how out of touch they are with their voters.” …”Fracking supports tens of thousands of jobs in swing states like Pennsylvania,” Power The Future founder and Executive Director Daniel Turner posted on X. “There’s no question that energy is on the ballot in November.” Oops! Now, of a sudden, there’s this headline from the Hill: Harris does not support fracking ban: Campaign official This gem of a story reports: Vice President Kamala Harris will not seek to ban fracking if she’s elected president, an official with her campaign told The Hill on Friday. Harris’s position not to support a ban on fracking differs from where she stood when she was running for president last cycle. Hmmm. Let’s be blunt. Ideologically Vice President Harris is now and always has been opposed to fracking. Time after time she is recorded as being out there on the issue. It is a gold standard issue to the far left. Suddenly, on the verge of being nominated for president, Harris now realizes that her fracking ban could in fact cause her to lose Pennsylvania. Not all that long ago — in 2022 to be exact — there was this report from the U.S. Energy Department: Pennsylvania had 273,364 energy workers statewide in 2022, representing 3.4% of all U.S. energy jobs. Of these energy jobs, 21,580 were in electric power generation; 48,405 in fuels; 51,437 in transmission, distribution, and storage; 69,990 in energy efficiency; and 81,952 in motor vehicles. From 2021 to 2022, energy jobs in the state increased 15,162 jobs, or 5.9% (Figure PA-1). The energy sector in Pennsylvania represented 4.6% of total state employment. And the message from Kamala Harris to all these Pennsylvanians: She wants to ban — outright ban — one of the key industries — fracking — in the Pennsylvania economy. They would be out of a job. A well-paying job at that. Is it any wonder that she suddenly reverses course? But has she? Has she really? Of course not. Kamala Harris is a far leftist’s far leftist. She is ideologically there. Out of California — where her fracking stance and energy views would be ignored — now that she needs Pennsylvania she suddenly changes course. All of which is to say Harris is, at bottom, a far left radical who will change with the political wind to win an election. But anyone who believes that once elected a Harris Administration U.S. Department of Energy would not revert to her frack-hating original position? There’s a bridge in Brooklyn she will want to sell you. The post Harris’s Fracking Blunder appeared first on The American Spectator | USA News and Politics.

Why Democrats’ Far Left Stubbornly Backed Biden and Suddenly Backed Harris

Amidst Democrats’ growing calls for Joe Biden’s withdrawal, self-styled “progressives” were notably silent. Once Biden was forced out, they immediately began lining up behind Kamala Harris. The seemingly different approaches come from the far Left’s understanding that they won big with Biden and could win even bigger with Harris. Policy-wise, the far Left has received everything it could have realistically conceived of getting from Biden’s administration. Even when Democrat calls for Biden’s withdrawal resumed after the attempted assassination of Trump, Democrats’ most far-Left leaders were still supporting Biden. Going into what proved to be Biden’s last weekend as Democrats’ nominee, Vermont senator Bernie Sanders said, “He has been the most effective president in the modern history of our country and is the strongest candidate to defeat Mr. Trump.” House counterpart, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), a member of the far-left Squad, also criticized those trying to oust Biden. Far-Left support was especially interesting because Biden’s Senate profile hardly matched their own. Even as he secured 2020’s nomination, his last rival was Sanders, who almost one-third of Democrats were still backing when the primaries finally ended. Why then the far Left’s conspicuous loyalty within growing intra-party disloyalty? Obviously, the far Left’s path to the presidency would come through the party’s primaries. The party establishment would not likely support it in future ones any more than the establishment had when Sanders nearly beat Hillary Clinton in 2016. So, setting a precedent for ousting someone who had duly won the necessary delegates could someday be turned against the far Left. However, far-Left opposition to Biden’s removal was deeper and more complicated than that. Policy-wise, the far Left has received everything it could have realistically conceived of getting from Biden’s administration. When Biden took office in 2021, he embraced the far Left’s agenda with the fervor of a convert. There was environmentalism to the extreme, student loan forgiveness, plus big spending and taxing (to the limits party moderates allowed). There was a foreign policy that eschewed deterrence for appeasement, there were DEI initiatives throughout federal agencies, and the southern border was thrown open. Politically, counterintuitive as it seems, the far Left knew it would also have won even if Biden had lost. There is a reason why its influence has increased during the Biden administration: as moderates turned away from Biden, he became more dependent on the far Left. Biden’s became the most leftist administration in American history. The far Left’s satisfaction was clear: Sanders did not make another presidential run this year, despite having run in the two previous elections. And should Democrat losses come in November; those would fall disproportionately on less-extreme Democrats in swing districts. Hence, the far Left would gain proportionately within the party, even if Democrat numbers fall. The far Left also knew rank-and-file Democrats would likely react to a Trump victory with knee-jerk extremism — precisely what happened in 2018. That wave produced a House Democrat majority featuring a more extreme membership — the Squad being a notable example. The result from all these scenarios? The far Left gained with any Biden outcome. These scenarios also apply with Harris being the nominee. So, Democrats’ far Left immediately got on board with Harris. The same day Biden announced his withdrawal, Squad member Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) posted on X: “Thrilled to support [Harris] as our Democratic nominee and remain committed to working alongside her to defeat Donald Trump in November.” Ditto Squad members Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) and Rep. Cori Bush (D-MO), with Bush posting “Black women are the backbone of the Democratic Party and it is past time for us to lead our country forward. Kamala Harris is more than ready to lead at this moment.” For Democrats’ far Left there is a significantly higher upside to Harris. While Biden gave his far Left all he had to give, he was never one of them. Harris is. She starts where Biden stopped. Clearly, Biden was a big spender. But Harris supported the Green New Deal — a mega-spending monstrosity that would add tens of trillions to U.S. deficits and debt. She also has supported basic income legislation, which would provide monthly government payments to families making $100,000 and below. Harris was the administration’s point person on the border administering policies that opened the illegal immigration floodgates. Yes, had Biden run and won, he would have been even more beholden to the far Left, which hadn’t betrayed him. And unable to seek reelection, Biden would have had no concern about voter dissatisfaction to leftist policies. Those were great prospects for the far Left. But those prospects are no replacement for Harris who supports initiatives beyond what Biden was able to deliver for the far Left. Unlike Biden, the far Left won’t have to push Harris left — she is already there. J.T. Young was a professional staffer in the House and Senate from 1987-2000, served in the Department of Treasury and Office of Management and Budget from 2001-2004, and was director of government relations for a Fortune 20 company from 2004-2023.
