Last November revealed a side to Hall and Oates that was unknown to many, unearthing dirt about the two-man band consisting of Daryl Hall and John Oates. The duo split after a messy legal feud that ensued after Oates attempted to sell his own half of their jointly owned company, Whole Oates, without his partner’s consent. Although Oates denied trying to sell his shares to Primary Wave Music, Hall accused him of betrayal and even got a restraining order against his longtime collaborator and supposed friend. Hall and Oates appear to have irreparably spiraled, with both artists pursuing their solo careers going forward. The 77-year-old recently released his new album, D, cementing his resolve to work independently. He believes their breakup was much needed but considers the approach a problem; however, he looks forward to this new phase regardless of how it came to be. He also noted that his ex-partner likely shares the same sentiment as him. Instagram Oates’ thoughts on going solo Like Hall predicted, Oates also felt liberated by their breakup and released an album to that effect. His May project, titled Reunion, is supposedly a testament to how he has been reuniting with himself since gaining creative freedom after Hall and Oates. He added that his legacy is his current priority, thanks to the “introspective and thoughtful” nature of his recent music.
