Tracii Guns says Eric Clapton is overrated

The L.A. Guns co-founder and guitarist Tracii Guns said in an interview with Dee Snider on the Shout it Out Loudcast, that the legendary guitarist Eric Clapton is actually overrated. He also said that in his opinion, the late Jeff Beck was always the best one in The Yardbirds. Tracii Guns says Eric Clapton is overrated (Transcribed by Ultimate Guitar) "Cream, for me, cream would be Clapton's pinnacle. It's like, dirty guitar sounds, wah-wah pedal, man, fuckin' going for it. But after that, he didn't do that. But when he was in the Yardbirds, Jeff Beck, man — he's got the fuzz pedal, he's got the wah-wah pedal. He was moving forward, and then this excuse [for Clapton], 'Well, yeah, but he's a blues guy.' Everybody's a fucking blues guy!" "I'm not trying to bang on Clapton... But, you know, you talk about underrated guys. What about the fucking overrated guys? You're gonna put Clapton with Jeff Beck? In what reality? I could do without Clapton, you know? I could do without his personality, but the Yardbirds are my second favorite band, because that's the precursor to Zeppelin. Also, I have everything they ever recorded, demo tapes, everything. Clapton ain't the guy, man, Beck's the guy," Tracii Guns said. Tracii Guns was born in Los Angeles, California in 1966 and besides being the founding member of L.A. Guns, is also one of the co-founders of Guns N' Roses. But he left the Axl Rose group shortly after the band was formed and was replaced by Slash. L.A. Guns had already released 14 studio albums, the most recent one being "Black Diamonds" in 2023. Besides him, the band's current line-up has Phil Lewis (Vocals), Adam Hamilton (Drums), Johnny Martin (Bass), Ace Von Johnson (Guitar) and Shawn Duncan (Drums). Tracii was also part of supergroups like Brides of Destruction and Contraband. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-AyzFK-dY4&pp=ygUMbGEgZ3VucyAyMDI0The post Tracii Guns says Eric Clapton is overrated appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.

Michael Anthony talks about Jimmy Page’s influence on Eddie VH

The classic Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony is currently on the road with Sammy Hagar, Joe Satriani and Jason Bonham promoting the tour "The Best of All Worlds", which is mainly focused on the material Van Halen released during the years with Sammy on vocals. In an interview with Ultimate Guitar, Anthony talked about the late legendary guitarist Eddie Van Halen and how the Led Zeppelin guitarist and producer Jimmy Page influenced him. He recalled that Eddie's famous tapping technique was created after he had the chance to watch Page performing with Zeppelin. Michael Anthony talks about Jimmy Page's influence on Eddie VH "He was a great guitar player. There are a couple interviews I've seen that he's done, where people ask him the same question, how does he feel being called that or whatever. He he just says, 'Hey, I'm just a punk kid who plays guitar.' The genius part I guess came with the tapping, because it was very innovative, what he did." "And the way he even explains it, where he was a big fan of seeing Jimmy Page live. And he just took like, what Page was doing those, those pull-offs with one hand, and Eddie just started, 'What if I took the same thing and moved it like, with this finger, like I was moving the nut of the guitar up?'" "So, I guess you could call a lot of that innovative. Genius? Yeah, I think so. Because he was probably the first one who really brought that out into the mainstream and he did it very well, obviously," Michael Anthony said. Before having their own songs, Van Halen used to play a lot of covers on the bar circuit and there were many Led Zeppelin tracks on the setlist. Some of them are “Hots On For Nowhere”, “The Rover” and “Trampled Underfoot”. Also after the mid-80s when Sammy Hagar became the band’s vocalist, they included many times the songs “Whole Lotta Love” and “Rock and Roll” during their concerts. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mIpHZo7BsT8&pp=ygUSZXJ1cHRpb24gdmFuIGhhbGVuThe post Michael Anthony talks about Jimmy Page’s influence on Eddie VH appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.

Pete Townshend wants to do another Who album but Roger doesn’t

Pete Townshend wants to do another Who album but Roger doesn’t

The Who was formed more than six decades and since John Entwistle's death in 2002, the band continued with the vocalist Roger Daltrey and the guitarist, main songwriter and somestimes singer Pete Townshend. After the 80s, the band only released two studio albums: "Endless Wire" (2006) and "Who" (2019). Since then Townshend said many times that he would love to record a new album and really doesn't see a point in touring every year without nothing new to play for the fans. However, as he said again in an interview with NME, the band's singer Roger Daltrey doesn't want to record a new album. So Pete said that maybe he could write the songs alone and tell Roger that he could sing on them or he would release them as a solo artist. Pete Townshend wants to do another Who album but Roger doesn't "I don't think there (will be another Who record). If there was a need or a place for a Who album, could I write the songs for it within six weeks? Of course, I fucking could; it's a piece of cake. The problem is I don't think Roger wants to do it again. For me, it would be a joy because I love writing songs, I love writing to a brief, I love having a commission, I love having a deadline, and I love the feedback." "I was so pleased that the critical response to the last Who album was so positive. I wasn't expecting that, and I was grateful for it and inspired by it. So where I am at the moment is I'm thinking, well, I might write the songs and then say to Roger, 'Either you sing on them, or I'm gonna put them out as a solo album,' and Who fans will love me for it," Pete Townshend said. Pete Townshend already released seven studio albums on his solo career and the most recent one is "Psychoderelict" (1993). The Who played a few benefit concerts in 2024 but has no scheduled tour dates for the rest of the year. Meanwhile, Roger Daltrey is touring as a solo artist across the United States. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QpKhGNaiS6c&pp=ygUYYWxsIHRoaXMgbXVzaWMgbXVzdCBmYWRlThe post Pete Townshend wants to do another Who album but Roger doesn’t appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.

At the age of 87, the original Rolling Stones bassist Bill Wyman announced that he will release his ninth solo studio album, which is called "Drive My Car". Wyman's band for the album had the drummer Paul Beavis and the guitarist Terry Taylor. Other names The title-track was already released and can be heard below. "It's not something I do every day, but sometimes I just see a guitar in the corner of the room, pick it up to play around and then something clicks into place. (...) "I think the biggest influence on the album as a whole is J.J. Cale, his laidback groove has always appealed to me. Friends I've played it to have said things like, 'It really sounds like you,' and that makes me happy. I've never tried to be anyone else - I’m Bill, basically," Bill Wyman said about the new album. Pete Townshend says John Entwistle was deaf in his final years

Pete Townshend says John Entwistle was deaf in his final years

After decades playing live, many musicians face hearing issues when they get older and according to The Who's co-founder, guitarist and songwriter Pete Townshend, the band's late bassist John Entwistle "had gone so deaf" in his final years that he couldn't even hear himself playing the bass guitar live. So according to Pete, many times he would play the wrong notes. He said that in an interview with NME saying that "The Who" machine died when Entwistle passed away in 2002 at the age of 57. Pete Townshend says John Entwistle was deaf in his final years “A lot of the time when we’re on the stage together, it’s not all that comfortable and you can see that. And it’s sad to say that a lot of dedicated Who fans come to every show in order to see Roger hit me in the face again, for me to smash him over the head with a guitar. Or for one of us to drop dead". “I think it’s been over for a long time. The Who machine died when John Entwistle died, because we were hanging on by a thread in a sense. John had already left the building in the way that Keith had already left the building. John had gone so deaf that he couldn’t hear himself play. So although he was still very virtuosic, a lot of the time he would be making mistakes and he couldn’t hear it." "There was this sense that he was on his way out. Roger and I had a decision to make as to whether or not we would try to keep the flame burning, the brand going, when he died. We were about to do a tour so we decided to do it. And that tour worked out to be quite successful,” Pete Townshend said. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gU5GjRey5P0&pp=ygUMdGhlIHdobyAyMDAx The Who played a few benefit shows this year but has no scheduled tour dates in 2024. Meanwhile, Roger Daltrey continues to tour as a solo artist across the United States. He is playing songs from The Who, his solo careers and some covers. He even performed a version for the famous Creedence Clearwater Revival song "Have You Ever Seen The Rain" recently. The post Pete Townshend says John Entwistle was deaf in his final years appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.
