MSNBC: Impeachment Probe Vote Is a Distraction Biden’s Booming Economy

The crack sleuths on MSNBC were on the case Thursday afternoon and got to the bottom of the impeachment probe of President Joe Biden. No‚ they didn’t take the accusations of corruption seriously and they didn’t care to dig into the Biden family’s tangled web of shell companies getting payments from foreign entities. But what they did purport to discover was the motive of House Republicans in launching the investigation: to distract from President Biden’s booming economy! Their busted revelation came during Andrea Mitchell Reports where Mitchell juxtaposed the impeachment inquiry vote with “The backdrop‚ of course‚ to all of this is inflation is easing” and “all the economic indicators are really looking strong.” “Strong in a good way‚ not in a dangerously inflationary way. But the voters don't seem to be picking up on that‚” she lamented to NBC chief White House correspondent Peter Alexander. Alexander brazenly misrepresented a 2019 tweet from former President Trump‚ where he decried the Russia Collusion Hoax as a distraction from his booming economy‚ to falsely suggest it was about his first impeachment: Just yesterday‚ on the economy we saw the stock market get to an all-time high‚ a record high. And it reminds you of something that Donald Trump posted back in 2019 on then-Twitter‚ now X. He said the following. He said‚ “You mean the stock market is hit an all-time record high today and they’re actually talking about impeachment?” Well‚ in fact‚ that is the case this time around as it relates to President Biden. The stock market is at an all-time high. Donald Trump‚ himself‚ said the stock market would plummet under Joe Biden if he became president. It is at an all-time high and House Republicans are talking about impeachment right now.     The tweet was from April and Trump’s first impeachment wasn’t until the start of the following year. Alexander also tried to rewrite history there and lie about the fact the stock market did indeed plummet after Biden was elected. “As it relates to the economy‚ there are those strong signs right now. Some new indicators that consumer sentiment is getting more optimistic‚” he puffed up the Biden economy. Despite delivering that positive outlook that average Americans really weren’t feeling‚ Alexander did share the White House’s fear that the impeachment inquiry would be what damaged the economy. “[Aides are] warning about the potential for this to have a real impact on the economy going forward. The economy‚ as you noted‚ that is seeing some real strong signs right now. The potential for a government shutdown increasing as the days pass‚” he parroted. “But again‚ Andrea‚ to be clear‚ the White House does face some real challenges on this issue to try to better convince Americans that Joe Biden deserves credit for the economy the way it is right now‚” he griped. “Still‚ Americans in many parts of the country [are] frustrated by rent being high and the price of food still being too high.” “But obviously‚ as we heard from the Fed‚ inflation going in the right direction and likely to be as many as three more cuts‚ according to Chairman Powell‚ next year‚” he hyped up the coming election year. The transcript is below. Click "expand" to read: MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell Reports December 14‚ 2023 12:05:31 p.m. Eastern (…) ANDREA MITCHELL: The backdrop‚ of course‚ to all of this is inflation is easing‚ according to the Fed chair‚ Jerome Powell‚ all the economic indicators are really looking strong. Strong in a good way‚ not in a dangerously inflationary way. But the voters don't seem to be picking up on that. PETER ALEXANDER: Yeah Andrea. You make a couple good points in that question. Let me get to the first‚ which is specifically the President's reaction to that impeachment inquiry. The White House posting a statement from President Biden late yesterday where he described this as a baseless political stunt. We’ll put it up there that you can read along. He wrote‚ “Instead of doing anything to help make Americans' lives better‚ they” – the Republicans – “are focused on attacking me with lies instead of doing their job on the urgent work that needs to be done. They are choosing to waste time on this” - again – “baseless political stunt that even Republicans in Congress admit is not supported by facts.” The President being very critical of those Republicans right now‚ saying instead of focusing on issues like Ukraine‚ Israel‚ and border security‚ he said Republicans in Congress won't act to help. Repeating that multiple times in his statement. And the White House‚ having spoken to aides to the President earlier today‚ they are warning about the potential for this to have a real impact on the economy going forward. The economy‚ as you noted‚ that is seeing some real strong signs right now. The potential for a government shutdown increasing as the days pass. Early January‚ obviously‚ is going to be do-or-die time as it relates to the potential for a shutdown. Just yesterday‚ on the economy we saw the stock market get to an all-time high‚ a record high. As it relates to the economy‚ there are those strong signs right now. Some new indicators that consumer sentiment is getting more optimistic. But again‚ Andrea‚ to be clear‚ the White House does face some real challenges on this issue to try to better convince Americans that Joe Biden deserves credit for the economy the way it is right now. Still‚ Americans in many parts of the country frustrated by rent being high and the price of food still being too high. But obviously‚ as we heard from the Fed‚ inflation going in the right direction and likely to be as many as three more cuts‚ according to Chairman Powell‚ next year. (…)

Can Hamsters Drink Milk? Vet Approved Facts &; Risks

Hamsters are extremely popular pets due to their small size and low maintenance needs. However‚ many animal lovers are unfamiliar with how to properly care for hamsters‚ especially regarding their nutrition and diet. One common question that sparks curiosity among animal lovers and hamster owners is: Can hamsters drink milk? As hamsters are mammals‚ they can technically drink milk‚ but it is not the most suitable drink for these rodents‚ as drinking it after a certain age could cause several health risks. In this article‚ we talk about the possible risks associated with hamsters drinking milk and more. Should Hamsters Drink Milk? Is It Good for Them? After birth‚ baby hamsters strictly feed on their mother’s milk as the main source of nutrients. During this period‚ baby hamsters can easily digest lactose. However‚ as they grow and become weaned‚ many hamsters lose the ability to digest lactose‚ leading to lactose intolerance. While milk is not toxic to these rodents‚ drinking it at an adult age could cause several health risks. Since adult hamsters have difficulties digesting lactose‚ their bodies can react poorly to milk‚ leading to diarrhea and stomach upset. Another issue connected with hamsters drinking milk is the potential of the milk getting spoiled or spilling in your hamster’s cage‚ leading to germ and bacteria formation‚ which could easily make your hamster sick. Hamsters should only drink milk when they’re still babies‚ and it should only be from their mother. After they’ve grown‚ it’s best for hamsters not to drink milk. Image Credit: Couleur‚ Pixabay Possible Risks Associated With Hamsters Drinking Milk 1. Digestive Upset One of the biggest health risks associated with hamsters drinking milk is digestive upset. In most cases‚ drinking milk can lead to diarrhea‚ stomach upset‚ and abdominal pain. If persistent‚ the diarrhea could eventually cause more health troubles‚ such as dehydration‚ which is why it’s best to keep milk out of your hamster’s diet. Hamster’s are particularly susceptible to the effects of diarrhea‚ so anything that could upset their tummies should be avoided. 2. Nutritional Imbalance Hamsters are small creatures‚ and even the slightest dietary changes could have a big impact on them. Drinking milk could lead to a nutritional imbalance‚ which could further damage their health and cause more problems. Which Drink Is Suitable for Hamsters? The only fluid that hamsters need to intake daily is water. It’s essential for proper body functioning and overall well-being‚ which is why your hamster should have constant access to fresh drinking water. There’s no need to offer any other drinks or fluids to your pet hamster. Are There Any Alternatives for Milk That Hamsters Can Consume? Some people might want to offer milk to their hamsters as a way to spruce up their diet and have them intake various minerals and vitamins. However‚ since drinking milk could cause digestive upset in your hamster‚ it’s better to look for safer alternatives. These items offer plenty of the minerals and vitamins that your hamster needs for proper development: Apples Mealworms Romaine lettuce Image Credit: Couleur‚ Pixabay Final Thoughts Hamsters can drink milk because they’re mammals and consume milk after birth. However‚ as they mature‚ most hamsters lose their ability to digest lactose‚ making them lactose intolerant. Therefore‚ only baby hamsters should drink milk‚ and only from their mother. Adult hamsters would do best without milk in their life stage and should drink water instead. Featured Image Credit: NataliaPopova‚ Shutterstock The post Can Hamsters Drink Milk? Can Hamsters Eat Coconut? Vet Approved Nutrition Facts &; Advice

Hamsters are omnivores that can enjoy a variety of fruits and vegetables; does that mean that hamsters can eat coconut? Yes hamsters can eat coconut! This exotic treat is not just flavorful but also packed with a host of nutrients that can be beneficial for your tiny ball of fur. However‚ like any other treat you offer your pet‚ moderation is key. Also‚ certain precautions need to be considered to ensure the safety of your pet. Let’s delve deeper into the fascinating world of hamsters and coconuts. Understanding the Nutritional Value of Coconut Here are some of the benefits of coconut for your hamster. Beneficial Healthy Fats Coconut is well-known for its high content of healthy fats. These fats are essential for various body functions‚ such as providing energy and supporting cell growth. They also play a crucial role in protecting against heart disease and maintaining brain function. However‚ as beneficial as these fats are‚ remember that they should be consumed in moderation due to their high calorie content. Rich Source of Dietary Fiber Another significant benefit of coconut is its high fiber content. Dietary fiber aids in digestion by adding bulk to your hamster’s diet‚ helping to prevent constipation and promote a healthy digestive tract. A diet rich in fiber can help keep your hamster’s digestive system running smoothly. Again‚ too much of a good thing can be problematic‚ and excessive amounts of fiber can lead to bloating and diarrhea. Minerals Galore Coconut is a natural source of several important minerals like iron‚ magnesium‚ and potassium. These minerals are vital for various body functions. Iron for oxygen transport Magnesium plays a role in nerve signal transmission and muscle contraction Potassium‚ necessary for maintaining fluid balance in the body. Image Credit: Ika Rahma H‚ Shutterstock How to Serve Coconut to Your Hamster Now you know that hamsters can eat coconut and some of the benefits that coconut can provide. But how should you serve it to your hamster? The Debate: Fresh vs Dried Coconut You might be wondering whether fresh or dried coconut is better for your hamster; both can be served to your pet. However‚ fresh coconut is always a better choice as it doesn’t contain any added sugars or preservatives often found in dried versions. Dried coconut‚ while convenient‚ may contain additional sugar‚ which can be harmful to your hamster’s health. But if you stick to the unsweetened variety that contains nothing but coconut‚ you can certainly sprinkle some coconut flakes on your hammy’s next meal. The Importance of Portion Size As is true with any food‚ portion control is key when feeding coconut to your hamster. A piece of coconut meat measuring about an inch long is more than enough for an adult hamster. Overfeeding can lead to obesity and other health problems. If you are planning to add some dried coconut flakes to your hamster’s dinner‚ then a teaspoon once or twice a week will do it. In fact‚ this can be a nifty way to get a reluctant hamster to eat their “boring” pellets! Frequency of Feeding Coconut should be viewed as an occasional treat‚ not a staple in your hamster’s diet. Offering it once or twice a week is more than enough. This ensures that your pet gets the benefits of the coconut without the risk of overconsumption. Always Remove the Shell While coconut shells are non-toxic to hamsters‚ they pose a potential hazard due to their hardness. They could cause dental problems if your hamster attempts to chew on them. Always remove the shell before feeding coconut to your hamster. Say No to Sugared or Candied Coconut Sugared or candied coconut products might seem like a convenient option‚ but they’re a no-go for hamsters. These products are high in sugar‚ which can lead to obesity and diabetes in hamsters. Supervise Your Hamster During Feeding It’s always a good idea to keep an eye on your hamster when introducing a new food. If you notice any changes in behavior or signs of digestive upset after feeding coconut‚ remove the coconut from the diet and consult your vet immediately. Image Credit: Couleur‚ Pixabay Healthy Coconut Alternatives for Hamsters Coconuts are good for hamsters‚ but it shouldn’t be the only treat you feed them. Here are some more healthy fruit and vegetable treats that you can give to your hamster. Fruit Alternatives If you’re looking for other fruits to add variety to your hamster’s diet‚ consider apples‚ pears‚ and berries. These fruits are lower in fats compared to coconut and provide a variety of nutrients. Remember to remove any seeds or pits‚ as they can be harmful to your hamster. Vegetable Alternatives Vegetables like carrots‚ cucumbers‚ and bell peppers are great for hamsters. They offer a wide array of vitamins and minerals and are low in calories‚ making them an ideal choice for daily feeding. Image Credit: Irennikia‚ Shutterstock The Role of Commercial Hamster Food While it’s good to offer fresh foods‚ commercial hamster food should make up the majority of your hamster’s diet. These foods are specially formulated to meet all the nutritional needs of your pet‚ ensuring they get a balanced diet. Other treats such as coconut should only be fed on occasion‚ not as an everyday treat. Conclusion The answer is clear: coconuts can indeed be a delightful and nutritious treat for your hamster when offered correctly. The key lies in moderation and careful preparation. By providing a balanced diet and ensuring their safety‚ you can greatly contribute to the joy and vitality of your tiny furry friend’s life‚ making each day a fun-filled adventure. What Is a Novel Protein Diet? Our Vet Answers

Quite often‚ when we are reading about food allergies or intolerances‚ the term “novel protein” will come up. Feeding your pet a novel protein diet may help to diagnose the problem‚ or your pet may require a novel protein diet to control their condition. But what exactly does this mean? What is a novel protein diet? The answer is actually a lot less complicated than you might think. A novel protein refers to a protein source‚ usually a type of meat‚ that your pet has not eaten before. It is common for more unusual protein sources‚ such as pea protein‚ ostrich‚ insects‚ and even feathers‚ to be used in novel protein diets‚ but this doesn’t necessarily have to be the case. Let’s take a look at what a novel protein diet really is and when you might need to use one. Why Does My Pet Need a Novel Protein Diet? There are two main reasons your vet will recommend a novel protein diet for your cat or dog: diagnosis of a food sensitivity or treatment of a food sensitivity. Diagnosis of a Food Sensitivity There are terms often used interchangeably when it comes to food reactions—sensitivity‚ allergy‚ intolerance‚ or hypersensitivity—but this isn’t entirely accurate. A food allergy or hypersensitivity is an immune-mediated response to an allergen‚ whereas a sensitivity or intolerance refers to a more direct reaction to a food not involving the immune system. Skin reactions to food tend to be true allergies‚ and most gastrointestinal reactions are linked to dietary sensitivities or intolerance. Although the mode of action is different‚ how we diagnose and treat the problem is quite similar. Signs of Food Intolerance: Vomiting Diarrhea Bloating or abdominal pain Flatulence Signs of Food Allergy: Itchy skin Red skin or rash‚ particularly around ears‚ eyes‚ tummy‚ groin‚ and sometimes feet Saliva staining (pink/brown fur) around these areas These signs may not appear immediately after being introduced to a particular food‚ and they may even develop after years of being on the same diet‚ which can make food reactions harder to diagnose. Part of that diagnosis will involve ruling out any other causes of your pet’s clinical signs‚ which may include: Parasite check/treatment for fleas and mites (skin) or internal parasites (gastrointestinal) Skin scrapes/hair plucks to look for bacterial or yeast infections Blood tests to check for metabolic causes of gastrointestinal signs This process can be quite time-consuming and expensive but is essential. It is quite common for dogs with skin reactions to food to have secondary bacterial or yeast infections‚ and these must be treated first. Another challenge to diagnosing a food allergy is that it can occur alongside or even trigger other problems‚ such as atopic dermatitis (atopy) or protein-losing enteropathy. Once your vet has ruled out any other potential causes of your pet’s skin or gastrointestinal signs‚ they will likely recommend a food trial‚ also known as an elimination diet. Because most food reactions are to animal proteins‚ the best way to find out if food is the cause of your cat or dog’s clinical signs is to put them on a food trial using a protein that their immune system has not encountered before‚ and therefore‚ cannot be sensitive to. To be successful‚ your pet will need to eat this food and nothing else for a period of 6 to 12 weeks to see if their signs improve. If they do‚ we know that the problem is with the food. If not‚ further testing may be needed. Image Credit: marialevkina‚ Shutterstock What About Allergy Testing? Allergy testing using blood‚ saliva‚ or intradermal testing is available to identify the source of skin allergies for dogs. However‚ there is some debate in the veterinary world as to just how accurate these tests are. These tests are known to have a high rate of false positives‚ especially in dogs less than 12 months old‚ and food trials continue to be the most accurate and reliable method of diagnosing food allergies‚ both for humans and pets. Treatment of a Food Allergy Once it has been established that your pet’s gastrointestinal or skin condition is triggered by food‚ we need to have a long-term plan. If your cat or dog enjoys the food they have been given as part of their food trial‚ some owners choose to keep their pet on that food long-term‚ but sometimes the food used in the trial may not provide all the nutrients needed in a long-term diet. To prove that the signs are definitely caused by food‚ we need to “challenge” your pet’s sensitivity with different proteins to see which ingredients cause a reaction. This can be a long and tedious process‚ but it’s worth it if it turns out that your pet is only allergic to one thing! This also allows more freedom when it comes to food options for your pet‚ and Dogs and cats that have a skin-based allergy may also be sensitive to environmental allergens and often require medication to suppress their immune system. These can be expensive and have multiple side effects. However‚ if we can reduce their allergen load by finding a food they can eat/avoid that helps reduce the intensity of their clinical signs‚ then we may be able to reduce the dose of those medications. What Is a Novel Protein? A novel protein is a protein source‚ usually meat‚ that your pet has never eaten before. We are aiming to find a single protein that their immune system has not encountered before. That way‚ their immune system either won’t react to that protein or won’t have had a chance to develop a sensitivity to it. The other requirement of using a novel protein for a diet trial is that the food must consist of only that protein‚ so it’s a single protein source. Many foods will list one meat type on the front of the pack‚ but a check of the ingredients list will contain a plethora of additions like beef fat‚ pork fat‚ chicken meal‚ meat meal‚ and fish meal‚ so be on the lookout for these. If in doubt‚ check with your vet to make sure you’re selecting the right food. The range of novel protein options for each individual pet will depend on what foods they are currently eating and what they have regularly eaten in the past. Image Credit: Pommer Irina‚ Shutterstock Are Some Novel Proteins Better Than Others? Theoretically‚ provided your cat or dog has not eaten the protein being used in the elimination diet‚ it will work as an appropriate novel protein. However‚ given that many commercial pet foods will use ingredients other than what is listed on the front of the bag‚ your pet may have been fed beef‚ pork‚ or fish without you realizing. With this in mind‚ it can be worth selecting a less commonly used ingredient‚ such as: Rabbit Duck Venison Ostrich or emu Insect-based foods Feather protein foods Plant-based foods Animal or Plant Protein — Which Is Best? Plant-based proteins are becoming a common feature of both human and pet foods due to their sustainability and low allergen qualities. There is evidence that dogs can survive entirely on a plant-based diet‚ provided that the diet contains the right balance of protein‚ fats‚ carbohydrates‚ minerals‚ and vitamins. Some studies even suggest that a plant-based diet may improve the health and longevity of our canine companions‚ but only if commercially produced foods‚ which have been tested and approved as safe‚ are used. Although there is limited proof of adverse health consequences for cats that have been fed a commercially produced‚ nutritionally balanced plant-based diet including taurine supplementation‚ there is currently insufficient evidence to support feeding an obligate carnivore an entirely meat-free diet. For dogs that have a wider range of food sensitivities‚ a plant-based diet may be a potential long-term solution. For cats‚ however‚ although a plant-based food might work for a diet trial‚ there needs to be more research before we can recommend it as a permanent option. FAQs Are Some Novel Proteins Better Than Others? Beef and chicken are the most common cause of food allergies in cats and dogs‚ so it is best to steer clear of these when choosing your novel protein diet. Because many commercial diets will include other meat products in their recipe‚ it is often better to choose a less common meat protein‚ such as rabbit‚ venison‚ or duck‚ to be more confident that it is‚ in fact‚ a novel protein for your pet. Can My Pet Have Any Treats When They Are on a Novel Protein Diet? If you are starting your pet on a food trial‚ it is best to talk to your vet about exactly what they can and can’t eat. Usually‚ if a treat consists of the same protein being used in the trial‚ it could be included. Can You Feed a Raw Novel Protein Diet? Absolutely. This may be an easier option when it comes to avoiding hidden ingredients. The most important thing to keep in mind‚ both when using a raw single protein diet and raw feeding in general‚ is that the diet must be nutritionally balanced. Feeding raw meat alone will deprive your pet of essential vitamins and minerals. For cats in particular‚ taurine deficiency can occur if they are not fed the right components‚ which can result in digestive issues‚ blindness‚ and heart disease. Care must always be taken when feeding your pet a raw diet to reduce the risk of spreading pathogens like Salmonella and Campylobacter‚ which can affect your pets and your family. Image Credit: MoDaVi Art‚ Shutterstock What About Hydrolyzed Diets? Hydrolyzed diets use meat ingredients that have been broken down into tiny particles in a process called hydrolysis‚ making it more difficult for the immune system to recognize them as allergens. Hydrolyzed diets can be a good option for pets with food sensitivities; however‚ the hydrolysis process can make the food less tasty‚ and there is evidence that it does not completely eliminate all allergens from the food. Hydrolyzed diets are also quite expensive. Should I Feed My Pet a Single Protein Diet if They Don’t Have Allergies? If your pet doesn’t currently have any signs of gastrointestinal or skin allergies‚ we would advise against feeding them hydrolyzed‚ hypoallergenic‚ or anallergenic foods‚ but keeping your cat or dog’s diet limited to one or two protein types is a good idea. As we saw from the examples above‚ pets that are fed a smorgasbord of different types of meat will have a much smaller selection of novel proteins to choose from if they develop sensitivities later in life. What About Gluten? Many pet foods promote being grain-free or gluten-free as an important factor for dog food selection. However‚ the incidence of wheat or gluten intolerance in dogs is reported to be somewhere between 0.1 to 1% of the population‚ with a higher incidence in Irish Setters and Border Terriers. An additional consideration when choosing a grain-free diet is that research has shown a potential link between certain types of grain-free diets and heart disease in dogs. There is still much work to be done in this area‚ but it does support the idea that a gluten-free diet should only be implemented if your dog has a proven wheat allergy. Conclusion A novel protein diet is one that uses a single protein that your cat or dog has not eaten before. If your pet’s clinical signs improve with an elimination diet‚ we can confirm that those signs are being caused by food by undertaking a food challenge. Take care when selecting food for a diet trial‚ as many commercial foods contain additional meat ingredients besides what is written on the front of the pack. Diet trials should be performed under the guidance of your veterinary surgeon‚ who can help you select the ideal food. From there‚ your cat or dog may stay on that food if appropriate‚ or reintroduce ingredients one by one to determine which meat protein is triggering a reaction. While the average non-allergic dog or cat does not need to be on a hypoallergenic diet‚ it is a good idea to limit the number of different meat types they are fed regularly in case a novel protein diet is needed in the future. Always consult with your vet before starting down the path of an elimination diet‚ as it will not be a reliable exercise unless other causes of your pet’s clinical signs have been ruled out or treated. Is Vaping Around Dogs Bad? Vet Approved Advice

The dangers of secondhand cigarette smoke have been well documented. For example‚ dogs that are exposed to cigarette smoke regularly are more likely to develop things like eye infections‚ respiratory issues‚ allergies‚ and even cancer than canines that live with non-smoking owners. However‚ the effects of secondhand vaping haven’t been extensively studied yet. We do know that nicotine‚ the tobacco-derived chemical that gives cigarettes and vapes their addictive appeal‚ is extremely toxic to dogs if ingested. The synthetic flavorings in vapes can also be harmful to dogs. To keep your dog safe‚ avoid vaping indoors‚ and always store and dispose of cartridges and batteries away from your pets. Why Dogs and Vapes Don’t Mix There are a variety of reasons why vapes should be kept away from dogs. The most apparent danger is the chance of accidentally ingesting nicotine‚ which can be fatal. Nicotine Nicotine toxicity is a serious issue for pets. If caught in time‚ your dog will usually have a good prognosis‚ but this depends on how much they ingested. Signs of nicotine poisoning include: Vomiting Diarrhea Respiratory distress Ataxia Depression Agitation These signs may appear as early as 15 minutes after ingestion. However‚ if you believe your dog has ingested something containing nicotine‚ you should rush them to the vet immediately. Once your pet starts displaying clinical signs‚ the poison may have already caused damage to their system. Aerosol Exposure The World Health Organization concluded that vapes are considered an air pollutant‚ which has resulted in a vaping ban in many public areas. Inhaling aerosols is certainly not healthy for dogs but ingesting them can be even worse. A few years ago many companies switched their antifreeze formulas from ethylene glycol to propylene glycol. Ethylene glycol is highly toxic to humans and animals‚ and many accidental—and intentional—poisonings have easily occurred because of antifreeze’s sweet taste and lack of odor. While propylene glycol is certainly less toxic‚ it’s still toxic to pets. You may wonder‚ why does this matter for vaping? Propylene glycol‚ the active ingredient in most antifreezes‚ is the primary agent in e-cigarettes that’s responsible for transforming liquid cartridges into vapors. Propylene glycol is especially toxic to cats‚ with no established toxicity threshold for felines. Relatively small amounts can still be fatal in dogs as well. According to the American College of Veterinary Pharmacists‚ as little as 4 milliliters of propylene glycol can be lethal to a toy breed. Signs of propylene glycol poisoning include: Depression Weakness Seizures Increased urination Increased thirst Outside of vapes‚ propylene glycol is also used as a preservative in many foods. For this reason—and the possibility of many other toxins in human food—it’s always important to check the list of ingredients before giving your dog a human snack. Image Credit: Natali Brillianata‚ Shutterstock THC Some vapes include THC‚ especially in areas where marijuana is now legal. THC is toxic to dogs‚ regardless of whether it’s ingested or inhaled. Edibles pose the biggest risk‚ but secondhand vape can also dangerously expose your dog to THC. Signs of THC toxicity include: Lethargy Disorientation Loss of motor control Urinating uncontrollably Shaking Dilated pupils Drooling If you believe your dog may have ingested or inhaled something containing THC‚ or if they show any of these signs‚ you should take them to the vet immediately. It’s important to let your vet know what’s going on so that they can give them the appropriate treatment quickly by ruling out other possible diagnoses. Chemical Flavorings Vapes are available in an endless choice of flavor concoctions. There’s no way to study all of their effects‚ but we can conclude that at least some of them aren’t safe for dogs to inhale‚ much less ingest. Air fresheners‚ cleaning products‚ and even natural essential oils have long been considered dangerous to dogs. It makes sense that the chemical flavorings found in vapes may pose the same risks. Image Credit: Aleksandr Yu‚ Shutterstock How to Keep Your Dog Safe If You Vape You don’t have to give up vaping for your dog’s sake‚ but you do need to keep their health in mind when choosing where to do it. Avoid vaping indoors or in areas where your dog spends time. This will reduce their risk of inhaling secondhand vapors and reduce the amount of contaminants in the air. You should also store cartridges and batteries in a closed drawer out of your pup’s reach. Leaving them laying around puts your pet at risk of chewing on the plastic‚ or accidentally ingesting the vape juice or acid from the batteries. You should also charge your device in a room that your pet can’t access. When the cartridge is empty‚ make sure to throw it away in a trash can with a secured lid‚ outside if possible. Conclusion Although vapes are touted as safer alternatives to cigarettes‚ we don’t yet realize the full extent of the negative effects they may have on dogs. Nicotine is currently recognized as the greatest danger‚ but THC‚ aerosols such as propylene glycol‚ and certain chemical flavorings are also toxic to pets. If you vape‚ be sure to blow off steam away from your pet and store all paraphernalia out of their reach. If you think they’ve accidentally ingested any part of a vape or cartridge‚ or if they’re showing signs of poisoning‚ take them to the vet immediately for treatment. 160+ Great Names for Abyssinian Cats

Abyssinian cats are incredibly playful and elegant. They’re mostly known for their distinctive coat‚ which has a “ticked” pattern. However‚ their large‚ almond eyes are a close second. If you’ve been lucky enough to adopt one of these felines‚ one of your first steps should be to name them. Your average cat names often do well for these felines. However‚ you can also choose something a bit more exotic to match how these felines look! Below‚ we’ll dive into both kinds of names: the more common‚ popular variety‚ and those that are rarer. How to Name Your Cat Naming your cat is often easier said than done. There are so many names out there that settling on only one name can be a challenge. You don’t have to name your cat right away‚ though. It often takes cats a few weeks to learn their name‚ so delaying a few days won’t bother them. Waiting a few days can provide you with extra time to observe your cat’s behavior and personality. Some names just fit better for some cats than others. Some cats are far more regal‚ while others may be more playful. Their personality matters‚ though most cats will “grow into” their names. Their coat color‚ pattern‚ and eye color should also be observed. If your cat comes in a darker color‚ a name like “star” or “night” is more likely. However‚ you don’t always have to follow their physical appearance‚ either. If you have others in your family‚ be sure to ask for their considerations‚ too. For families with young children‚ be sure they can pronounce the name you’re considering. (I’ve had to scrap several names because my toddler was unable to pronounce them!) Start by writing down your favorite names and then work down the list. Cross out the names that don’t fit your feline‚ or that others in your family do not like. Female Abyssinian Cat Names Image Credit: tsapenkodg‚ PIxabay In this section‚ you’ll find the best names for female Abyssinian cats. There are more traditional names‚ like “Bella” and rarer names like “Asha.” Many of these are more exotic to fit this breed’s exotic appearance. However‚ feel free to use these as inspiration to come up with your own names. Cleo Nala Luna Asha Ruby Saba Bella Cleopatra Jinx Sasha Tasha Kiara Misty Athena Marley Maya Zoe Luna Mochi Ruby Zola Pandora Ember Pixel Zola Astra Misha Nova Zuri Shadow Amber Tasha Zola Luna Maya Ember Pixel Mochi Zola Pandora Misha Nova Nimbus Zuri Male Abyssinian Cat Names Image Credit: EvgenS‚ Shutterstock This category is fairly similar to the above list‚ but for male cats. Simba Milo Leo Loki Dash Jasper Zazu Marley Oscar Felix Thunder Dexter Obi Zorro Ziggy Kiki Quincy Comet Nova Nimbus Tigger Orion Exotic Names for Abyssinian Cats Image Credit: Ingus Kruklitis‚ Shutterstock Abyssinians don’t necessarily look as unique as some other breeds. Here are some of our favorite options that are a bit more “out there.” Zephyr Azura Nebula Seraph Mystique Solstice Nyx Sable Zara Orion Kairo Luna Django Kismet Electra Quasar Nala Kairos Pandora Zenith Jett Suri Nimbus Saffron Oberon Zoltan Calypso Cairo Zaria Inara Jinx Tigris Vega Azrael Zola Ishtar Dante Zalika Sirocco Solara Nature-Inspired Abyssinian Names Image Credit: Darya Lavinskaya‚ Shutterstock There are tons of nature-inspired names that work well for cats. However‚ you can also name them something very “normal.” Therefore‚ we included both kinds of names on our list above‚ allowing you to find something useful for just about any feline. Of course‚ you can use these names as a jumping-off point for coming up with your own names‚ as well. Sometimes‚ just by reading some name options‚ you can come up with names that are more fitting for your feline. National Yorkie Day 2023: What &; When Is It?

Yorkies are adorable dogs‚ but did you know they have a day dedicated to them each year? August 1st is always National Yorkie Day no matter which day of the week it falls on‚ and there are tons of great ways to celebrate this unique day. Yorkies also have quite a few interesting facts for you to learn a bit more about‚ and we’ve highlighted some of them for you here! What You Need to Know about National Yorkshire Terrier Day National Yorkie Day falls on August 1st every year‚ and it’s a great opportunity to celebrate these adorable pups. National Yorkie Day falls on the same day as Yorkshire Day‚ which is the county in England where these dogs originated. It’s no coincidence that these days are the same‚ and if you’re ever in Yorkshire‚ there are quite a few celebrations that you can take part in on August 1st. With that said‚ let’s look at some interesting Yorkie facts before you tell you how to celebrate them. The 5 Little Known Facts About Yorkies 1. They Were Ratting Dogs When you look at a Yorkie‚ you likely don’t see a dog with a rich hunting history‚ but that’s exactly what the British originally bred this dog for! They’re avid tunnellers‚ which can lead to problems in your backyard‚ although modern Yorkies aren’t really the rat-hunting type of pup. Image Credit: Imageman‚ Shutterstock 2. Yorkies Are Hypoallergenic If you suffer from pet allergies‚ a Yorkie might be just what you’re looking for. While no dog is completely hypoallergenic‚ a Yorkie is about as good as they come. They don’t shed much‚ and they produce very little dander. 3. They Only Have One Color While many dog breeds come in tons of different colors and have different patterns‚ that’s not the case with the Yorkie. They come in one color pattern: a signature brown and black. This unique color pattern makes them instantly recognizable and completely adorable. Image Credit: Mr. SUTTIPON YAKHAM‚ Shutterstock 4. Yorkies Are the 13th Most Popular Dog in the United States While the Yorkie isn’t the most common or popular dog in the United States‚ they are the 13th most popular. You’ll find these dogs all over the country‚ so if you want one‚ there are plenty of options to pick from. 5. They Often Develop Genetic Conditions While the Yorkie is a common dog breed‚ they are prone to several genetic conditions. Some of these common health concerns include hypoglycemia‚ periodontal disease‚ luxating patella‚ and distichia. Image Credit: Tatyana Vyc‚ Shutterstock How to Celebrate National Yorkie Day Now that you know a little bit more about National Yorkie Day and the Yorkies themselves‚ all that’s left is for you to figure out how to celebrate. Donate to an Animal Shelter One of the best ways to celebrate National Yorkshire Terrier Day is to give some extra money to an animal shelter. Animal shelters always struggle to get all the supplies they need and to afford all the necessary medical expenses the pets have‚ and donations go a long way in helping them with this. Volunteer at an Animal Shelter If you don’t have any extra money to spend‚ that doesn’t mean you can’t help out local shelters. You can always choose to volunteer your time‚ just reach out before you show up so you can schedule a time that works for you and the shelter. Go to a Dog Park You don’t have to celebrate the day at an animal shelter‚ especially if you already have a Yorkie. Pets love having extra time to run around and burn some energy‚ and taking them to a dog park is almost always a good idea. It’s all about doing something for your Yorkie to make them happy on their day. Image Credit: Vivienstock‚ Shutterstock Final Thoughts While National Yorkie Day is a ton of fun‚ it’s important not to make a long-term commitment to a dog at the last minute. The last thing you want is for you to get in over your head with something and have a new pup for 15 years because of a 15-minute decision. Still‚ there are tons of great ways to celebrate the day without bringing home a new pup‚ and it’s certainly a day worth celebrating whether you have a Yorkie or you just like the breed! Former FBI official who played key role in Trump-Russia probe sentenced to prison for actual Russian collusion

A former high-ranking FBI official who was instrumental in miring former President Donald Trump in an investigation over now-debunked ties to Moscow in 2016 is going to prison for actual Russian collusion. U.S. District Judge Jennifer H. Rearden sentenced disgraced former FBI agent Charles McGonigal to 50 months in prison for "conspiring to violate the International Emergency Economic Powers Act and to commit money laundering in connection with his 2021 agreement to provide services to Oleg Deripaska‚ a sanctioned Russian oligarch." McGonigal‚ 55‚ is among the highest-ranking FBI agents ever to be convicted of a crime. Fake collusion Blaze News previously reported that McGonigal‚ who ran counterintelligence for the bureau's New York field office‚ played a central role in triggering special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into fraudulent claims that Trump's campaign team colluded with Russia in order to win the 2016 election. While serving as chief of the cybercrimes section of the FBI in Washington‚ D.C.‚ McGonigal picked up on allegations that a Trump adviser‚ George Papadopoulos‚ was boasting to an Australian diplomat about possible dirt on former first lady Hillary Clinton. This information‚ which McGonigal sent to then-FBI Deputy Assistant Director Jonathan Moffa in July 2016‚ paved the way for the bureau's launch of "Crossfire Hurricane." The operation in turn led to the appointment of Mueller and a two-year‚ $32 million probe into spurious claims of Russian collusion that continue to shape various leftists' perspectives today. Real collusion While the bureau was investigating the Trump camp in search of a crime‚ ideally one involving Russians‚ McGonigal was working for Oleg Deripaska — a Russian oligarch and aluminum magnate who reportedly has links to Russian President Vladimir Putin and was ultimately sanctioned on April 6‚ 2018‚ by the U.S. Treasury Department for allegedly interfering in the 2016 U.S. presidential election. McGonigal routinely did Deripaska's bidding and tried to have the oligarch taken off the U.S. sanctions list. According to his indictment‚ the disgraced FBI agent also agreed to help the daughter of Deripaska's Russian agent find employment with the New York Police Department "in the fields of counterterrorism‚ intelligence gathering and 'international liasoning.'" Serving as the Russian oligarch's man in the bureau‚ McGonigal also probed Deripaska's oligarchic rivals in exchange for "concealed payments." The former agent and his Russian peer‚ former Soviet diplomat Sergey Shestakov‚ used shell companies to send and receive payments from Deripaska‚ whose name was carefully omitted in their electronic communications. The Department of Justice underscored that prior to his retirement‚ McGonigal was preparing himself for a new master. "As an FBI official‚ MCGONIGAL helped investigate Deripaska and other Russian oligarchs. As an SAC‚ he supervised investigations into sanctions violations‚" indicated the DOJ. "Yet at the same time‚ he began building a relationship with an agent of Deripaska‚ in the hopes of doing business with Deripaska after he retired from the FBI." Had McGonigal not been arrested in January‚ he stood to possibly make millions with his Russian boss. Another fed in federal prison McGonigal's lawyers suggested that he should be permitted to walk free because he accepted responsibility and was out of a job. The convict similarly begged District Judge Rearden to spare him from accountability‚ stating‚ "I'm humbly asking for a second chance‚" reported CNN. District Judge Rearden‚ evidently fresh out of second chances‚ sentenced the former FBI agent Thursday to just over four years in prison. McGonigal must surrender to prison on Feb. 26. Damian Williams‚ U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York‚ said‚ "Charles McGonigal violated the trust his country placed in him by using his high-level position at the FBI to prepare for his future in business. Once he left public service‚ he jeopardized our national security by providing services to Oleg Deripaska‚ a Russian tycoon who acts as Vladimir Putin's agent." Although McGonigal could alternatively have received five years in prison‚ Williams suggested the former agent's four-year sentence "is a reminder that anyone who violates United States sanctions ... will pay a heavy penalty." The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District indicated that extra to time behind bars‚ the court ordered McGonigal to pay a fine of $40‚000‚ to forfeit $17‚500‚ and to serve three years of supervised release. McGonigal separately pleaded guilty to concealing $225‚000 in cash payments from a former Albanian spy. His sentencing concerning those charges will take place on Feb. 16‚ 2024. McGonigal faces up to five years in prison on the concealment of material facts charge. Like Blaze News? 50-year-old man competes against‚ shares changing room with teenage girls at Canadian swim meet: 'Girls were terrified'

A man old enough to be a grandfather competed against teenage girls and even shared a changing room with them at a recent swim meet in Canada. On the weekend beginning December 1‚ swimmers gathered at the East Bayfield Community Centre in Barrie‚ Ontario‚ to compete in the Trojan Cup. The competition provides separate races for males and females based on age. The youngest age group is for competitors 8 and younger‚ and the oldest age group is 16 and older.Perhaps because there does not appear to be an upper age limit‚ a 50-year-old man‚ born Nicholas Cepeda‚ was allowed to participate. However‚ Cepeda did not test whether he could still keep up with boys less than half his age. Instead‚ Cepeda‚ who now calls himself Melody Wiseheart‚ competed against girls as young as 16.Even with the advantages of sex and age‚ Wiseheart still came up short. In nine races‚ the best he performed was a second-place finish in the women’s 1500m freestyle. The winner beat him by more than three seconds. Swim Ontario‚ which co-sanctioned the event alongside Swimming Canada‚ issued a statement defending the organizations' policies as cultivating a "safe‚ welcoming‚ and inclusive" sport for "people of all ... genders":In partnership with Swimming Canada‚ Swim Ontario has a robust system of policies‚ procedures and rules that support our member clubs in providing a competitive experience that is safe‚ welcoming and inclusive for all participants.Swimming Canada and Swim Ontario believe swimming is for everyone... people of all shapes‚ sizes‚ genders‚ beliefs and backgrounds should have the opportunity to swim to the best of their ability... with the expectation that our registrants treat each other with respect and dignity‚ and keep our sport environment free from harassment and abuse.Except in generalities‚ the statement did not reference the women and young girls who have been denied the "dignity and respect" and the "environment free from harassment and abuse" afforded to men like Wiseheart. And the offenses against them extend far beyond the pool's edge. Disturbing reports from Rebel News and other outlets indicate that Wiseheart used the women's locker room and perhaps even showered with children‚ forcing parents to build a makeshift towel barrier in the locker room to shield the young girls from Wiseheart's view — and to keep them from exposure to his penis."The girls were terrified‚" one unnamed parent told the Toronto Sun. The Trojan Cup was not Wiseheart's first foray into competition with young girls. The Daily Mail reported that he may have begun participating in such events in 2019‚ and Fox News confirmed that he participated in a meet just two months ago against "swimmers aged 12-14."In fact‚ Wiseheart — a professor of psychology at York University who is married to a woman — is a member of the Orangeville Otters Swim Club‚ regularly training alongside young girls. Without appearing on camera‚ one such young girl briefly spoke with Rebel News and confirmed that she had regularly seen Wiseheart in the girls' changing facilities "in the mornings." The girl referred to Wiseheart as "she."According to Rebel News‚ the Otters have seemingly embraced a "trans-age" policy — calling it the "right to play as a child and not as an adult" — to keep grown adults like Wiseheart in the fold with young children. None of the parents at the swim club wanted to speak with the Rebel News journalists‚ two employees treated them with open hostility‚ and the police ultimately forced them off the property.David Menzies of Rebel News attempted several times to report Wiseheart to the police for possibly violating statues 173.1 and 173.2 of the Criminal Code of Canada‚ which prohibit "an indecent act in a public place ... with intent to insult or offend any person" and "exposing ... genital organs to a person under the age of 16." So far‚ his pleas seem to have fallen on deaf ears. — (@) Wiseheart ran away from Rebel News' cameras‚ refusing to answer any of Menzies' questions. He also did not respond to a request for comment from the Daily Mail.Like Blaze News? Bypass the censors‚ sign up for our newsletters‚ and get stories like this direct to your inbox. Sign up here!
