Stunning Roman Mosiac Found In Ancient Townhouse Near The Colosseum

Along the ancient streets where Roman bigwigs once strolled‚ archaeologists have uncovered a vast mosaic still beaming with colors as impressive as they were 2‚000 years ago.First uncovered in 2018 by archaeologists from the Colosseum archaeological park‚ the Italian Culture Ministry unveiled the discovery this week. The mosaic was found in the remains of a luxurious townhouse‚ known as a domus‚ located between the Roman Forum and the slopes of the Palatine Hill in Rome‚ a short walk from the Colosseum. It was once a luxurious home‚ featuring several stories‚ a garden‚ a grotto-like banquet room‚ and a water feature that worked using lead pipes embedded in the decorated walls.A close-up of the mosaic‚ showing its stunning detail.Image credit: Italian Culture MinistryThe centerpiece of the excavation is undoubtedly the mosaic found within the domus‚ which is dated to the last decades of the second century BCE. It was crafted using different types of seashells‚ Egyptian blue tiles‚ precious glass‚ flakes of white marble‚ and other types of stone. These precious materials were used to depict a complex sequence of figurative scenes‚ including shoots of lotus and vine leaves emerging from vases‚ stacks of weapons‚ Celtic trumpets‚ and ships with tridents.Perhaps‚ this hints that the owner of this house was a highly decorated general who led soldiers into battle on sea and land. Whoever they were‚ it's a safe bet that they were rich and held a high social status in Roman society.More of the motifs featured in the mosaic.Image credit: Italian Culture MinistryThe structure was built in at least three phases between the second half of the second century BCE and the end of the first century BCE. This was a pivotal period that encompassed the last decades of the Roman Republic and the rule of Augustus‚ the founder of the Roman Empire.Rome has been continually occupied for thousands of years‚ yet discoveries are continuously emerging as layers of the city’s rich past are unfolded. Although situated in the center of the Italian capital‚ it’s important to note that the ancient city is located some 7 meters (22 feet) below the streets walked upon by modern-day Romans and tourists.                Archaeologists are set to return to polish up the site in the new year‚ after which they hope to make the domus available to the eyes of the public. “The archaeological excavation will conclude in the first months of 2024 and we will subsequently work intensely to make this place‚ among the most evocative of ancient Rome‚ accessible to the public as soon as possible‚" Alfonsina Russo‚ Director of the Colosseum Archaeological Park‚ said in a statement.

Why Physicists Say The Centrifugal Force Is Not Real

Why Physicists Say The Centrifugal Force Is Not Real

The centrifugal force is pretty cool. It could be used one day to create artificial gravity onboard space stations (saving sci-fi films a lot of budget in the process) sparing astronauts the strange effects of microgravity on their bodies. It is also responsible for the fact that the earth bulges in the middle‚ and as a result‚ the fact that you weigh slightly less at the equator. But as any physics undergraduate will tell you‚ probably with quite a stressed-out look on their face‚ it isn't a real force. What do we mean by that? Well‚ say when you are on a roundabout spinning around‚ despite the fact that you feel yourself being "pushed" outwards‚ there is no external force pushing you off the play equipment. What you are actually feeling is the result of your own inertia‚ or the tendency for objects in motion to remain in motion in a straight line at the same velocity unless another force acts upon it.An easy way to see this intuitively is to send balls rotating around a circle‚ then quickly releasing them and watching what direction they travel in.    From within your rotating frame of reference‚ it may feel like a real force‚ but outside of it‚ it is easier to see what is going on. As you swerve the wheels of your car‚ with the friction between your tires and the road creating an apparent "centripetal force"‚ your body – happily moving forward in a state of inertia – continues to try to move forward. From inside‚ it feels like you are being pushed by a force‚ but you are actually trying to carry on a straight forward path while your car swings a big donut. All “explainer” articles are confirmed by fact checkers to be correct at time of publishing. Not-So-Scary Truth About Climate Change

United States Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry says it will take trillions of dollars to “solve” climate change. Then he says‚ “There is not enough money in any country in the world to actually solve this problem.” Kerry has little understanding of money or how it’s created. He’s a multimillionaire because he married a rich woman. Now he wants to take more of your money to pretend to affect climate change. Bjorn Lomborg points out that there are better things society should spend money on. Lomberg acknowledges that a warmer climate brings problems. “As temperatures get higher‚ sea water‚ like everything else‚ expands. So we’re going to maybe see three feet of sea level rise. Then they say‚ ‘So everybody who lives within three feet of sea level‚ they’ll have to move!’ Well‚ no. If you actually look at what people do‚ they built dikes and so they don’t have to move.” People in Holland did that years ago. A third of the Netherlands is below sea level. In some areas‚ it’s 22 feet below. Yet the country thrives. That’s the way to deal with climate change: adjust to it. “Fewer people are going to get flooded every year‚ despite the fact that you have much higher sea level rise. The total cost for Holland over the last half-century is about $10 billion‚” says Lomberg. “Not nothing‚ but very little for an advanced economy over 50 years.” For saying things like that‚ Lomberg is labeled “the devil.” “The problem here is unmitigated scaremongering‚” he replies. “A new survey shows that 60% of all people in rich countries now believe it’s likely or very likely that unmitigated climate change will lead to the end of mankind. This is what you get when you have constant fearmongering in the media.” Some people now say they will not have children because they’re convinced that climate change will destroy the world. Lomborg points out how counterproductive that would be: “We need your kids to make sure the future is better.” He acknowledges that climate warming will kill people. “As temperatures go up‚ we’re likely to see more people die from heat. That’s absolutely true. You hear this all the time. But what is underreported is the fact that nine times as many people die from cold. ... As temperatures go up‚ you’re going to see fewer people die from cold. Over the last 20 years‚ because of temperature rises‚ we have seen about 116‚000 more people die from heat. But 283‚000 fewer people die from cold.” That’s rarely reported in the news. When the media doesn’t fret over deaths from heat‚ they grab at other possible threats. CNN claims‚ “Climate Change is Fueling Extremism.” The BBC says‚ “A Shifting Climate is Catalysing Infectious Disease.” U.S. News and World Report says‚ “Climate Change will Harm Children’s Mental Health.” Lomborg replies‚ “It’s very‚ very easy to make this argument that everything is caused by climate change if you don’t have the full picture.” He points out that we rarely hear about positive effects of climate change‚ like global greening. “That’s good! We get more green stuff on the planet. My argument is not that climate change is great or overall positive. It’s simply that‚ just like every other thing‚ it has pluses and minuses. ... Only reporting on the minuses‚ and only emphasizing worst-case outcomes‚ is not a good way to inform people.”

Evening 'News' Echoes Biden Spin on Scandal: 'No Proof....Where Is The Evidence?'

Wednesday's evening shows all led with the House of Representatives authorizing an impeachment inquiry into President Biden on a party-line vote. ABC‚ CBS‚ and NBC all echoed the preposterous "no evidence" claims of the White House. ABC spun for Biden the hardest‚ while NBC came closest to a middle-ground approach. On ABC's World News Tonight‚ David Muir began the program: "Tonight‚ breaking news involving President Biden. The House voting moments ago to formally open the impeachment inquiry despite no proof of high crimes or misdemeanors. The president's response just in....Republicans voting to formalize the impeachment inquiry involving the president‚ but where is the evidence? And the stunning moment today the president's son Hunter Biden coming before the cameras." Then he repeated it at the top story: "We do begin tonight with the breaking news from Capitol Hill just a short time ago. House Republicans voting to formalize the impeachment inquiry into president Biden despite providing no evidence of high crimes or misdemeanors. They say they need the inquiry to find the evidence." Then came reporter Mary Bruce: "For years‚ Republicans have tried to tie president Biden to his son's business dealings‚ but have found no concrete evidence of wrongdoing. Hunter Biden already indicted for failing to pay taxes he has since repaid‚ today insisting his father did nothing wrong." After three soundbites of Hunter‚ Bruce repeated: "House Republicans have spent a year investigating the Bidens and have come up with nothing on the president." Then she added a Biden statement:  "The president is calling this a baseless political stunt‚ not supported by facts. Biden saying instead of doing their jobs‚ House Republicans are focused on‚ quote‚ attacking me with lies." On the CBS Evening News‚ anchor Norah O'Donnell sounded the same note‚ just a little less: "This next step follows the years-long scrutiny of the president and his family that has turned up no proof of high crimes‚ and misdemeanors. But Democrats tonight are calling the move by Republicans‚ an extreme political stunt‚ that has no credibility and no legitimacy." CBS had four Hunter soundbites. Reporter Scott McFarlane concluded: "In a statement tonight President Biden said of Republicans‚ instead of doing anything to make Americans live better‚ they are focused on attacking me‚ with lies."  NBC Nightly News was the mildest of the three. Anchor Lester Holt opened: "The house moments ago narrowly voted to authorize the probe that has so far produced no evidence of wrongdoing." But the report by Ryan Nobles featured several facts the other two didn't.   Nobles said Hunter Biden "snubbed" a subpoena‚ even showing an empty desk with his name on it. Nobles noted that Hunter Biden wouldn't take questions‚ and showed video of his attempt to question Hunter. He also showed Joe Biden refused to take questions. NBC had two Hunter soundbites‚ but unlike the others‚ NBC offered substantive soundbites from Republican leaders Jim Jordan and Jim Comer. Nobles also ran a soundbite of Biden in 2019 lying that he'd never spoken to his son about his business dealings.  So Hunter Biden drew nine soundbites overall. None of the three network stories featured any video of Karine Jean-Pierre's evasive answers at the Wednesday briefing.

Texas National Guard installs anti-climbing barriers at border as second line of defense behind water barriers

Texas National Guard Engineer Response Teams were deployed to repair existing concertina-wire barriers and install new anti-climbing barriers in Brownsville‚ Texas. The wire barriers have reportedly been damaged by illegal border-crossers‚ but the Department of Homeland Security has also been pictured cutting the wire. The DHS has been ordered to leave the wire alone unless it is in response to an emergency medical situation‚ a judge recently declared‚ according to NBC News. The state of Texas announced that the anti-climbing barriers near Brownsville will be placed behind existing reinforced concertina wire‚ where it is used as an added prevention method at water crossings. The state has also used water buoys to prevent crossings."We know Texas has the right to legally deploy those buoys in the water to prevent people from entering our country and our state illegally‚" Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) said. Another Anti-climbing barrier going up in Texas. Stay tuned — (@) The barriers‚ which the state said are used to "prevent the use of ladders or other scaling devices to illegally cross from Mexico into Texas‚" are fairly simple in their application. They were described by outlet KSAT 12 as eight-foot fencing barriers that are strung together and wrapped in razor wire.Captain Chris Daniel‚ the operation's commanding officer‚ explained why the fencing was erected."We have bad actors that are coming over‚ opening up the [concertina wire‚ and] allowing traffic to move through‚" Captain Daniel said."They’re going to have to do a lot more cutting to get through the ACB. What we’re trying to do is create a barrier that’s going to allow Task Force South‚ DPS‚ whoever else is down here‚ and some of the drone teams to be able to hopefully intercept those bad actors and stop them from manipulating those barriers."Brownsville has often been the target of barrier projects across multiple administrations. The 2006 Secure Fence Act under President Bush called for at least "2 layers of reinforced fencing‚ the installation of additional physical barriers‚ roads‚ lighting‚ cameras‚ and sensors" at multiple border crossings including Brownsville and Laredo‚ Texas.A 2017 plan under President Trump called for 150 miles of new fencing including 12 miles around the Rio Grande Valley‚ which includes Brownsville‚ CNN reported. The new construction and replacement fencing were part of a $5 billion project at the time.Like Blaze News? Washington Dems want people to serve jail time for using gas-powered lawn tools

Two Washington Democrats recently introduced a bill that could land people in jail for up to 364 days for using gas-powered lawn care tools.State Reps. Amy Walen and Liz Berry last week introduced House Bill 1868‚ which aims to "reduc[e] emissions from outdoor power equipment."According to the proposed legislation‚ gas- and diesel-powered landscaping tools "emit a host of air pollutants" that are "contributing to climate change and negatively impacting public health." The bill cites findings from the United States Environmental Protection Agency that stated gas-powered lawnmowers contribute 5% of the country's air pollution. According to the EPA‚ over 17 million gallons of fuel are spilled yearly while refueling outdoor power equipment."Nationally‚ the Department of Transportation data shows that one hour of running a gas lawnmower can contribute as much smog-forming pollution as driving a passenger car 300 miles‚" the bill claims. "One hour of running a gas leaf blower can contribute as much smog-forming pollution as driving a passenger car 1‚100 miles."Gas-powered lawn tools also cause asthma‚ hearing loss‚ and "other health issues‚" the legislation asserted. Additionally‚ it argued that‚ particularly with more individuals working from home‚ the noise from outdoor power equipment can be a nuisance. It also provides tax break incentives for new zero-emissions equipment. The lawmakers argued that switching to all-electric power tools could generate health benefits and claimed that consumers are "ready for the transition." "In some instances‚ electric and battery-operated equipment are just as powerful as gas‚ and more efficient‚" the bill contended. The proposed legislation seeks to ban gas- and diesel-powered outdoor tools "produced on or after January 1‚ 2026‚ or as soon as the department determines is feasible‚ whichever is later."The rule does not prohibit federal‚ state‚ or local government agencies from using the equipment in emergency or response situations. It also carves out an exception for using gas-powered power equipment when no "suitable zero emissions" alternative is available on the market. If passed‚ the new rule would impact lawnmowers‚ hedge trimmers‚ chainsaws‚ leaf blowers‚ augers‚ wood chippers‚ pressure washers‚ snowblowers‚ and many other tools.Operating a prohibited lawn care tool would be deemed a gross misdemeanor punishable by jail time. Offenders "shall be punished by a fine of not more than ten thousand dollars‚ or by imprisonment in the county jail for up to three hundred sixty-four days‚ or by both for each separate violation‚" according to state law.Like Blaze News? Don Lemon reveals he listens to Ben Shapiro and Patrick Bet-David now‚ recommends podcast with Chet Hanks

Don Lemon revealed his holiday recommendations for what readers should stream over the Christmas break‚ and his list surprisingly revealed suggestions that included conservatives Ben Shapiro and Patrick Bet David. The editors of Puck‚ a media company that focuses on Hollywood‚ Wall Street‚ Silicon Valley‚ and Washington‚ D.C.‚ featured the former CNN anchor in the outlet's "non-denominational holiday gift recommendations" guide."Since leaving corporate media I cut the cord‚" Lemon began. "I have an extensive‚ eclectic streaming palate now‚" he continued before revealing his recommendations.First‚ Lemon noted Showtime series "Fellow Travelers‚" a show that "centers on the decades-long romance" between two gay men in the 1950s.Then‚ Lemon recommended business mogul Patrick Bet-David's "PBD Podcast‚" which he described as "very conservative." The pundit then noted that he also listens to "The Ben Shapiro Show" because he wants to "hear his take on Israel."Rounding out some of his other streaming suggestions were "Piers Morgan Uncensored‚" which Lemon labeled "very real‚ authentic conversations you don’t get in corporate media‚" and "The Adam Friedland Show.""Smart‚ irreverent‚ funny; download the Chet Hanks episode for evidence‚" Lemon said of the podcast.Friedland is a stand-up comedian who hosts other comics‚ celebrities‚ and‚ in Lemon's recommended episode‚ Chet Hanks. The sometimes forgotten and controversial son of Tom Hanks‚ Chet is an off-the-wall character who often speaks with a patois accent.During the episode in question‚ Hanks stated that he believes Donald Trump is going to win the 2024 election after he heard rappers Future and Lil Baby were spotted with the former president."He's gonna win‚ dude‚" Hanks stated. .@donlemon told Puck News he has "cut the cord" with corporate media and has been listening to conservatives such as Ben Shapiro — (@) Lemon was fired by CNN after 17 years in April 2023 and said that he didn't even receive a call from management."I was informed [that] morning by my agent that I have been terminated by CNN‚” Lemon said‚ according to SCNR. "I would have thought that someone in management would have had the decency to tell me directly‚" he continued."At no time was I ever given any indication that I would not be able to continue to do the work I have loved at the network. It is clear that there are some larger issues at play‚" Lemon added. Other special guests for the holiday guide included actress Gwyneth Paltrow‚ who recommended a cardigan she was seen wearing during a recent court case.Like Blaze News? Boston Mayor Wu shows up to 'Electeds of Color' holiday party for non-whites in city-owned building‚ backs segregated shindig

Boston Mayor Michelle Wu showed up Wednesday to the controversial "Electeds of Color" holiday party for non-white officials in a city-owned building and defended the segregated festivities."I can understand someone might be confused or worried if certain people weren’t being invited at all or were being left out of any type of celebration. But I assure you‚ everyone on the Boston City Council has got an invitation to multiple types of events and holiday parties‚" Wu said outside the city's Parkman House‚ according to the Daily Mail. What is the background? The party broadly came to light earlier Wednesday after an official in Wu's office mistakenly sent invitations to the party meant only for non-white officials to the entire city council‚ a number of whom are white.Denise DosSatnos — director of city council relations in the mayor's administration — sent the errant email and then followed it up with an apology 15 minutes later‚ WFXT-TV reported: "I did send that to everyone by accident‚ I apologize if my email may have offended or came across as so. Sorry for any confusion this may have caused.”Here's a look at the 13-member city council: Image source: City of Boston Image source: City of BostonThe Daily Mail‚ citing the Boston Herald‚ said seven white council members ultimately were not invited to the party‚ and six people of color were invited.White council member Frank Baker told WHDH-TV he sees the non-white gathering as "divisive‚ but what are you going to do about it? You don’t want me at a party‚ I’m not going to come to a party.”'In place for many‚ many years'Wu and Russell Holmes‚ a Massachusetts state representative‚ said outside the event that there are many examples of groups based on race‚ such as the Congressional Black Caucus in Washington‚ D.C.‚ the Daily Mail said.Earlier in the day‚ Wu noted that the "Electeds of Color" group "has been in place for many‚ many years. We celebrate all kinds of connection and identity and culture and heritage in the city. Just yesterday we hosted our official City Hall Hanukkah lighting. We have had tree lightings‚ and we want to be a city where everyone's identity is embraced‚ and that there are spaces and communities we can help support‚" the Daily Mail added.Michael McCormack‚ an attorney and former five-term Boston city councilor‚ told the Daily Mail that Wu hosting an exclusive party is not typical of her office and said former mayors Tom Menino and Ray Flynn would have invited the entire city council. "The problem is that Boston and race‚ unfortunately‚ are synonymous. I'm just hoping it was a mistake. It's not something that anyone in the mayor's office should be proud of‚" McCormack added to the outlet. According to black city council member Brian Worrell‚ "We make space and spaces for all kinds of specific groups in the city and city government. This is no different‚ and the Elected Officials of Color has been around for more than a decade‚" the Daily Mail reported‚ citing the Boston Herald.Councilor Tania Fernandes Anderson said there are "no need for apologies at all" regarding the party‚ the Daily Mail said: "Just like there are groups that meet based on shared interests or cultural backgrounds‚ it's completely natural for elected officials of color to gather for a holiday celebration."Like Blaze News? Reporter corners KJP with Biden's own words about defying congressional subpoenas after Hunter Biden does exactly that

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre refused to reconcile Hunter Biden defying a congressional subpoena with President Joe Biden's words that such individuals must be prosecuted. The elephant in the briefing room on Wednesday was Hunter Biden's Capitol Hill speech and his refusal to comply with a subpoena requiring that he testify before House investigators probing allegations of Biden family corruption. The first two times reporters asked about the first son's defiance‚ Jean-Pierre refused to address the issue. "I’m just not going to speak to that‚" she said. But when a reporter asked if Biden watched his son's speech‚ Jean-Pierre said the president "was certainly familiar with what his son was going to say‚" suggesting the two had conversed about it beforehand. But she later declined to provide additional details as to what exactly she meant by "familiar."Finally‚ a reporter confronted Jean-Pierre with Biden's own words about congressional subpoenas."You were asked what the president — what his stance was on people who defy congressional subpoenas. In 2021‚ he was asked that question specifically and said that he believed the Justice Department should prosecute them‚" the reporter noted."Is that still his position?" the reporter asked. But Jean-Pierre took the coward's way out."I don't have anything to add to what you just quoted me from the president. I just don't have anything to add‚" she responded.@DailyMail's @RobCrilly: "You were asked what the President -- what his stance was on people who defy congressional subponeas. In 2021‚ he was that...and he said he believes the Justice Dept should prosecute them. Is that still his position?"KJP: "I don't have anything to add" pic.twitter.com/n6MZbocrxm— Curtis Houck (@CurtisHouck) December 13‚ 2023 In October 2021‚ Biden was asked about individuals who had defied the Jan. 6 committee and ignored subpoenas requiring their testimony."I hope that the committee goes after them and holds them accountable criminally‚" Biden responded. When asked if he thinks that accountability should come in the form of Justice Department prosecution‚ Biden confirmed‚ "I do‚ yes."And that's exactly what happened. At the time of Biden's comments‚ Steve Bannon had ignored a congressional subpoena from the Jan. 6 committee. The Justice Department then secured an indictment against Bannon for contempt charges‚ and he was later found guilty and sentenced to prison. — (@) Like Blaze News? UK researchers raise alarm that humans are contributing to 'global warming' — by breathing

Climate alarmists prone to hyperventilating over the weather might be a part of the supposed problem they otherwise seek to remedy with statist interventions‚ unreliable energy alternatives‚ and a healthy diet of bugs‚ according to a new government-funded study out of Britain. Scientists at the U.K. Center for Ecology and Hydrology have raised the alarm that human breathing is contributing to greenhouse gas emissions‚ urging "caution in the assumption that emissions from humans are negligible." While their conclusion might ultimately be seized upon by depopulationists‚ it appears the researchers may have instead been seeking an argument for a change in diet. The peer-reviewed study published Wednesday in the Public Library of Science's journal PLOS One investigated greenhouse gas emissions of methane and nitrous oxide in human breath‚ which allegedly "contribute to global warming." The study gave away the plot early on‚ taking up the potential impact of food choices on gastric exhaust. The researchers‚ led by Nicholas Cowan‚ indicated the factors that affect the human emissions of these gases are not well understood‚ suggesting further that "the impacts of an aging population and shifting diets is still relatively uncertain." "Converting from high meat and protein content diets to higher fibre vegetarian options to mitigate emissions of greenhouse gases from meat production potentially results in higher production of gases in the human gut‚ and an element of pollution swapping could occur‚" they wrote‚ likely to vegetarian climate alarmists' dismay. Despite their interest in the link between diet and emissions‚ the researchers indicated they could not establish any trends or correlation on the basis of 328 breath samples collected from 104 human test subjects whose age‚ sex‚ dietary preference‚ and smoking habits were recorded. In the way of conclusions‚ they did establish that women were slightly more orally methanic than their male counterparts and that older test subjects were gassier than their younger peers. Methane was found in the breath of 31% of the test subjects‚ identified as "methane producers" or MPs. Methane production was higher in the older age cohorts. Whereas 40% of those in the 30 and older group were classified as MPs‚ only 25% of those under 30 were similarly classed methane producers. Women were found more likely (38%) to be MPs than men (25%). The researchers contextualized their findings with a seeming international hierarchy of breathy emitters‚ noting that the "highest proportion of MPs was found in African populations with up to 84%. Proportions of MPs in Western populations vary from 25% to 62%‚ while in Asian populations (such as Japanese) it can be as low as 15%." Despite their subjects' exhaust‚ the researchers conceded that emissions of methane and nitrous oxide "account for only 0.05% and 0.1% of the total emissions in the UK national greenhouse gas inventories‚ respectively." Cowan clarified these percentages do not pertain to national emissions on the whole‚ but rather to these specific gases — meaning they are even more negligible in the grand scheme‚ reported the Daily Mail. Apparently keen to shore up their concern in the face of these tiny numbers‚ the researchers stressed that they did not factor farts into their analysis‚ noting‚ "We represent only the lowest possible emission from humans‚ and the true value of our own bodily emissions are likely significantly higher as a species."
