With Ukraine Funding in Limbo‚ US Defense Contractors Huddle With Zelenskyy

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy courted a group of U.S. defense contractors this week during his visit to Washington‚ D.C.‚ as he lobbied lawmakers to approve an additional $61.4 billion in funding for his country’s war effort against Russia. Even before speaking with President Joe Biden‚ Vice President Kamala Harris‚ House Speaker Mike Johnson‚ U.S. senators‚ and other elected officials‚ Zelenskyy huddled with 10 executives from the defense industry—companies that manufacture weapons of war and benefit financially from the $113 billion that Congress already has approved for the ongoing conflict in Europe. Zelenskyy disclosed the meeting in posts on X—first a photo with about a dozen well-dressed executives and then a 77-second video with highlights from their meeting at Ukraine House in Washington. I met with leaders of US defense companies and expressed my gratitude to every American worker who manufactures weapons that help us safeguard our people and defend our land. I appreciated all American companies that attended last week's US-Ukraine defense industry conference.… pic.twitter.com/B82hyH2BUZ— Volodymyr Zelenskyy / ????????? ?????????? (@ZelenskyyUa) December 11‚ 2023 “I want to thank you‚ all of you and your partners‚ and‚ of course‚ please pass from me messages to your workers‚ people who really work. They did a lot for Ukraine‚” Zelenskyy told the group of defense industry representatives. “Without such people‚ companies‚ and such workers‚ we really couldn’t manage and save our land. We are thankful that we have such friends.” During his White House meeting Tuesday with Biden‚ Zelenskyy thanked the “really powerful companies” that he entertained Monday. According to the Ukrainian president’s office‚ attendees included: AeroVironment Vice President Charles Dean BAE Systems President Tom Arseneault Boeing President Theodore Colbert Day &; Zimmermann Chair and CEO Harold Yoh D&;M Holding CEO Daniel Powers General Dynamics Vice President Mark Roualet Lockheed Martin Vice President Raymond Piselli Northrop Grumman Vice President Stephen O’Bryan RTX Vice President Jeff Shockey Sierra Nevada Corp. CEO Fatih Ozmen Zelenskyy’s office also revealed that he would “invite American partners to take a stake in Ukrainian defense companies‚ which would be in the interests of all parties involved.” At the meeting‚ Zelenskyy pitched the executives on a Ukraine-based defense hub for Europe‚ noting his country’s wartime experience since Russia’s invasion in February 2022. Presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. called attention to the meeting on X‚ saying Zelenskyy “is literally meeting with defense contractors.” Zelensky is literally meeting with defense contractors. https://t.co/krCKcxxQas— Robert F. Kennedy Jr (@RobertKennedyJr) December 12‚ 2023 The meeting followed last week’s Defense Industrial Base Conference‚ which brought together more than 300 defense industry and government representatives from the United States and Ukraine. According to a press release from the U.S. Department of Commerce‚ the conference “is part of the U.S. government’s efforts to significantly increase weapons production to support Ukraine’s fight for freedom and security.” Attendees discussed “opportunities for co-production and other industrial cooperation‚” with a goal of building a defense industrial base for Ukraine. “You have a strong defense industrial base‚ but we need to lean in to work with you in partnership with the private sector‚ the public sector‚ to strengthen it‚ and to deepen it to make it more innovative‚” Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo said. “We’re with you every step of the way‚ we stand with you today and tomorrow‚ until the end‚ until victory.” Four high-ranking Ukrainian officials attended the conference along with Raimondo‚ Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin‚ and Penny Pritzker‚ U.S. special representative for Ukraine’s economic recovery. Despite a high-profile visit to Washington‚ Zelenskyy was unable to convince skeptical lawmakers to move forward on the $61.4 billion in new funding for Ukraine proposed by the Biden administration. Congress already has approved $113 billion‚ at a cost of $900 per American household. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell‚ R-Ky.‚ a vocal supporter of Ukraine funding‚ admitted Tuesday that it was “practically impossible” to act before Christmas‚ The Hill reported. Conservatives in Congress are demanding strong border security measures to be paired with any additional Ukraine funding. They want to attach the Secure the Border Act (HR 2) to the funding request to address the worsening U.S. border crisis. Congress should not be doing Christmas time deals that continue Biden’s open border policies that undermine the @HouseGOP's H.R. 2—the ONLY solution to #SecureTheBorder.#HoldTheLine— Ryan Walker (@ryanlwalker) December 13‚ 2023 Americans’ support for additional Ukraine funding appears to be waning. A recent Morning Consult poll found that only 41% favor sending more U.S. money to Ukraine. Despite dwindling public support‚ Biden assured Zelenskyy: “We’re going to stay at your side. … Congress needs to pass a supplemental funding to Ukraine before they break [for] the holiday recess. Before they give [Russian President Vladimir] Putin the greatest Christmas gift they could possibly give him.” Zelenskyy revealed at the White House that the infusion of U.S. funding for Ukraine was “really boosting our economy and global food security.” “Yesterday‚ I met with the IMF [International Monetary Fund] and the World Bank‚ and they’re impressed with Ukraine’s economic growth‚ almost 5%. And that’s significant‚” Zelenskyy said. Biden concluded the public conversation by announcing that he had signed a $200 million package of miltary aid for Ukraine. The Defense Department later announced that it includes: AIM-9M missiles for air defense. Air defense system components. Additional ammunition for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS). 155mm and 105mm artillery rounds. High-speed Anti-radiation missiles (HARMs). Tube-Launched‚ Optically-Tracked‚ Wire-Guided (TOW) missiles. Javelin and AT-4 anti-armor systems. More than 4 million rounds of small arms ammunition. Demolitions munitions for obstacle clearing. Equipment to protect critical national infrastructure. Spare parts‚ generators‚ maintenance‚ and other ancillary equipment. Have an opinion about this article? Bribery a Likely Biden Impeachment Article‚ Some GOP House Members Predict

Many House Republicans say they anticipate an impeachment article of bribery against President Joe Biden after the impeachment inquiry wraps up.  The House was poised Wednesday to approve an impeachment inquiry along party lines.  Bribery appears to be a potential article of impeachment‚ based on what the investigation has turned up thus far‚ said Rep. Darrell Issa‚ R-Calif.‚ a member of the House Judiciary Committee. “It certainly appears as though the possibility of bribery‚ a known offense under impeachment‚ is on the table‚” Issa told The Daily Signal Wednesday on Capitol Hill. “Monies did flow to the home of the president‚ they did flow to accounts of the president when he was vice president‚ and his actions show that he favored entities that Hunter Biden was representing. Additionally‚ his repeated false statements about it continue to be an element of the impeachment inquiry.” Issa noted that many of the suspicious actions by Joe Biden occurred while he was vice president. Past presidential impeachments occurred regarding presidential misconduct.  “One of the challenges we’re facing is that it’s not been tested‚” Issa said.  Democrats opposed the impeachment investigation and have insisted there isn’t evidence to show that the president was involved with his son’s business.  “Some of the people that say they don’t see evidence‚ I think they are going to come around‚” Rep. Andy Biggs‚ R-Ariz.‚ told The Daily Signal. “We are talking very specifically bribery. You can look at Ukraine. That looks obvious. You can look at China. Obvious. You could look at Moscow‚ funds that changed hands from Russia. Yes‚ those are all obvious bribery. Those would be an impeachable offense.” Rep. Harriet Hageman‚ R-Wyo.‚ first hesitated to get ahead of the inquiry by suggesting potential articles. But she said that “bribery is an obvious one.” “We need to use the words that are actually in the Constitution and bribery is clearly one of them‚” Hageman told The Daily Signal in an interview Wednesday on Capitol Hill. “Hunter Biden had no skill set to sell. He had no expertise in Ukrainian oil and gas development and operations. He had no expertise on Chinese Communist Party issues. He had one asset and his asset that he could sell was access to his father.” Article II‚ Section 4 of the Constitution says that grounds for impeaching a civil officer are “Treason‚ Bribery‚ or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.” President Joe Biden has repeatedly denied being involved with his son’s business deals. Hunter Biden told reporters on Capitol Hill Wednesday that his father had “no financial involvement” in his businesses.  In July‚ Sen. Chuck Grassley‚ R-Iowa‚ released an FBI form that showed a confidential informant reported that executives with Burisma‚ a Ukrainian energy company‚ paid a $5 million bribe to then-Vice President Biden in 2016 to help scuttle a Ukrainian government investigation of the company. President Joe Biden told the New York Post about the allegation‚ “It’s a bunch of malarkey‚”  The House Oversight and Accountability Committee has released evidence showing that payments from one of Hunter Biden’s business went directly to Joe Biden. Before that‚ the House released information showing that the president’s brother James Biden made “loan repayments” of at least $240‚000 linked to his brother’s business. The payments came before Joe Biden was elected president.  Hunter Biden’s attorney Abbe Lowell said in a statement to The Hill that the payments from Hunter Biden were for a truck‚ “The truth is Hunter’s father helped him when he was struggling financially due to his addiction and could not secure credit to finance a truck. When Hunter was able to‚ he paid his father back and took over the payments himself.” Meanwhile‚ the White House has dismissed the payments from James Biden as just a loan repayment between brothers. Several House Republican members who spoke to The Daily Signal and other news outlets declined to speculate on any specific impeachment articles before the inquiry is complete.  Rep. Gary Palmer‚ R-Ala.‚ a member of the House Oversight and Accountability Committee‚ said there could be several other potential offenses to investigate.  “One‚ I think that it’s very evident from the documents that I’ve seen that this was at a minimum‚ a money laundering scheme‚” Palmer told The Daily Signal. “It’s tax evasion. I think there’s potential that influence peddling was taking place. I think that going into an impeachment inquiry is the next step‚ the proper step‚ because I’m a firm believer in due process‚ and unlike what happened with President [Donald] Trump where it was all political and based on made up evidence‚ this has been fully documented.” Have an opinion about this article? Nets Proclaim There’s ‘No Evidence of Wrongdoing’ to Back Biden Impeachment

The “big three” of ABC‚ CBS‚ and NBC were up to their usual hijinks Wednesday morning during their flagship morning news shows defending President Joe Biden‚ his son Hunter‚ and Hunter’s life of ruin‚ proclaiming there’s “no evidence of wrongdoing” by the President or “hard evidence” to connect Hunter’s foreign business dealings to actions by Joe. On NBC’s Today‚ Capitol Hill correspondent Garrett Haake explained that‚ despite “the Republican’s razor thin majority‚ it likely will pass‚ but barely with only one Republican saying out loud that he’ll vote against it.”     “Now‚ House Republicans have been investigating whether President Biden has committed any impeachable offense or crimes relating to his son Hunter’s foreign business dealings‚” Garrett added‚ “but they’ve been doing this for months and have‚ so far‚ found no hard evidence linking the two.” No evidence? Guess those bank records‚ Café Milano visits‚ rides on Air Force Two‚ and voicemails meant nothing. Haake noted that Republicans “argue that this impeachment inquiry — formalizing it — will force the administration to be more responsive to their questions and to their subpoenas” while Democrats “see this entire effort as just a distracting political stunt”. Haake and co-host Savannah Guthrie then went through the minutiae of why Hunter Biden and his team only want a public hearing while Republicans want both. Hilariously‚ Haake repeatedly Team Hunter’s demands for a public-only hearing would be “to prevent the committee from twisting his words with what they release.” If that’s the case‚ what would you call the entire Trump presidency and House Intelligence Committee under Adam Schiff? ABC’s Good Morning America enlisted senior White House correspondent Selina Wang to play defense. She fretted that “House Republicans are set to vote to formalize an impeachment inquiry into President Biden even though some admit that there’s no evidence of wrongdoing”. Wang piled on‚ saying nothing about the dozens of new allegations from this year alone: “They allege the President abused his power to benefit his family‚ but nearly a year of investigations has‚ so far‚ come up empty.” Wang didn’t have any direct quotes from Republicans‚ but she did tout part of a statement from White House hack Ian Sams that called the impeachment inquiry a “baseless stunt...not rooted in facts or reality but in extreme House Republicans’ shameless desire to use their power to smear the president.” And‚ on CBS Mornings‚ co-host Nate Burleson proclaimed that the GOP’s “months-long investigation has not found evidence of wrongdoing by the President and the White House denies that there is any.” Congressional correspondent Nikole Killion was more muted‚ except for the brief nod to Donald Trump’s support for impeachment to insinuate this is all partisan (click “expand”): Last week’s indictment of the President’s son‚ Hunter Biden‚ gave Trump’s allies here in Congress the push to move forward. Now‚ the House was already investigating whether President Biden improperly benefited from foreign business dealings allegedly involving his son‚ Hunter and other family members. The White House calls it a fishing expedition that lacks evidence. Today’s vote is on a resolution that tells the committee’s that we’re already investigating Biden to keep going and determine whether sufficient grounds exist to impeach.  Many Republicans hoped that making the investigation more official will help them enforce subpoenas. The House Oversight Committee‚ which is leading the impeachment probe‚ has subpoenaed Hunter Biden and asked him to testify behind closed doors this morning‚ but his attorney says he won’t appear unless it’s public. A committee spokesperson says if he doesn’t show‚ the panel will initiate contempt of Congress proceedings. Former President Trump has pushed for impeachment proceedings against President Biden. Politically speaking‚ this vote will put House Republicans on record as we get closer to 2024 when all of these members will be up for re-election. Rodeo star in Oklahoma dies in strange duck hunting mishap: 'In a panic‚ in cold water'

A young rodeo enthusiast who had recently graduated with his master's degree tragically died over the weekend in a strange duck hunting mishap in Oklahoma. On Sunday‚ 24-year-old Jackson Williams headed out for a fun day of duck hunting at Sooner Lake‚ located about 75 miles west of Tulsa. Unfortunately‚ when Williams went out to retrieve a duck‚ he "hit a drop off‚" causing his waders to fill with water quickly‚ said a statement from the Oklahoma Game Wardens‚ weighing him down.Williams "did not return to the surface."Some game wardens joined forces with members of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol Lake Patrol unit to locate Williams' body and bring it back to the surface."[Waders are] hard to get in and out of‚ even on dry land‚" remarked OGW Capt. Ben Bickerstaff‚ "and in a panic‚ in cold water‚ it can be really tough.""Our thoughts and prayers go out to this young man’s friends and family‚" the OGW statement added. "The hunting community is small and close knit‚ he will be missed."Williams managed to accomplish much in his short life. According to an obituary‚ he grew up in Greenbrier‚ Arkansas‚ and earned an associate's and undergraduate degree in agriculture-related fields before pursuing a master's degree in crop and field science at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater. Some media outlets have described Williams as a current graduate student‚ but his obituary claimed that he had already "received his master's degree." There have been no reports that he had begun a doctoral or other post-graduate program.A lover of "rodeoing‚ duck hunting‚ and turkey hunting‚" Williams had also made a name for himself on the competitive rodeo circuit. He finished in the top 20 at his first Ote Berry Junior World Championship competition in Las Vegas‚ Nevada. He also joined the rodeo team at OSU for a time. The team released a statement about his passing: — (@) Oklahoma State issued a similar tribute to Williams: "He was a genuine and respectable young man‚ passionate about being a soil scientist and loved rodeo and helping others. Our hearts go out to Jackson’s parents and family‚ friends‚ co-workers‚ the 4-H’ers and producers he advised and his former OSU Rodeo team members."Williams' funeral will be held on December 18 at the Greenbrier Church of the Nazarene‚ where Williams was a member.Like Blaze News? GOP leaders long to DIE

GOP leaders long to DIE

Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) drew some heat over the weekend after attacking his own party for being too white while speaking at the Oxford Union. McCarthy claimed the Democrats “actually look like America” while the Republicans “look like the most restrictive country club.” This‚ mind you‚ while he was standing in a tuxedo at the podium of an elite British institution. It would seem that self-awareness is a liability when attempting to climb the political ladder. Republicans often make superficial complaints about identity politics‚ but McCarthy’s remarks reveal that the leftist hierarchy of victimization has embedded itself deep in the minds of mainstream conservative politicians. Diversity‚ inclusion‚ and equity have become the ideological enforcement arm of the progressive cultural revolution‚ and that poisonous belief system has now worked its way into the political party that is supposed to oppose it. McCarthy’s remarks at Oxford were not some embarrassing accident. At an event sponsored by the New York Times a few weeks earlier‚ the former speaker used the same line about country-club Republicans‚ but it got even worse. McCarthy told the audience that he believed the demographic makeup of the GOP was a serious problem in which he needed to involve himself personally. The congressman from California explained that he wanted to see more women and minorities taking House seats but that Republican primary voters kept stubbornly selecting white males. McCarthy wanted to make it very clear to New York Times readers that he actively sought to influence GOP primaries with the explicit intention of selecting candidates due to their race or gender. Stewards of the regime Kevin McCarthy is not some weird outlier‚ nor is he a Republican in Name Only. McCarthy was the House minority leader from 2019 until his election as speaker earlier this year. He held the key leadership position in the party. When Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) attempted to remove McCarthy‚ he was opposed by “serious-minded people who wanted to get things done.” The effort to remove the speaker for failing to keep his political promises on issues like the budget was characterized as a childish personal vendetta by the unruly MAGA crowd. Conservatives must demand a new kind of leadership willing to reject the poisonous racial and sexual grievance hierarchy of the left‚ or the right will most certainly DIE. New Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) has proven himself a disappointment in other ways‚ rushing to see how much American taxpayer money he can send to defend the borders of foreign nations‚ but that is the larger point. The Republican Party did not just have one bad leader with Kevin McCarthy. It is Kevin McCarthys all the way down. It would be easy to write off the former speaker as some soft California imposter. In reality‚ he is the Republican Party. There are some good GOP members‚ but most of these politicians are simply stewards of the regime who found it easier to get elected in their districts if they put an “R” next to their names on the ballot. Most “conservative” politicians buy into the prestige hierarchy presented to them by the dominant power and cannot wait to swap you out for a voter base that the New York Times would approve of. Nothing demonstrates the Republican embrace of the left’s DIE frame quite like the presidential campaign of Nikki Haley. Remember‚ Haley first rose to political prominence as part of the last populist revolt against establishment conservatism‚ the Tea Party. Now she’s become the model establishment presidential candidate. It was embarrassing enough when Haley embraced Disney after the company’s dust-up with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis over the state’s anti-grooming bill or demanded that big tech end internet anonymity‚ but her adoption of leftist rhetoric on race and gender has been truly egregious. After former CNN host Don Lemon called Nikki Haley “past her prime‚” Haley quickly responded by calling the commentator a sexist who was threatened by a minority woman. She wasted no time adding “past my prime” merchandise to her campaign website alongside shirts that read “Sometimes it takes a woman” and “She who dares wins.” Coincidently‚ the former governor of South Carolina has shot to second place in some polls‚ overtaking DeSantis and quickly becoming every corporate donor’s favorite Republican. A morally bankrupt party The same strange inconsistency has arisen around calls to defund universities and abolish DIE-based curricula now that campus activists and faculty have been fomenting anti-Jewish sentiment on campus in the wake of the October 7 attacks in Israel. No group should have violent rhetoric or hatred directed toward them under the guise of pseudo-academic jargon like “decolonization‚” but one has to wonder where these calls have been during the last decade when the same language was primarily directed at white‚ male‚ and Christian students. There were those who pushed back‚ to be sure‚ but the sudden support for substantive political action against universities that appeared after the anti-Semitic diatribes simply did not exist when the main targets looked more like the voter base of the Republican Party. It speaks deeply to the cowardice of the GOP establishment that Republicans simply ignored the demonization of Christians‚ males‚ and whites until a group that it was politically acceptable to protect suddenly became the target of bigotry. The Republican Party loves to gain points with its base by mouthing platitudes about the evils of identity politics but has clearly internalized the narrative and values of the left. Party leaders like McCarthy have fully embraced the idea that white middle and working-class voters are an embarrassment and should be left behind so the GOP can embrace a more diverse‚ inclusive‚ and equitable future. This approach is the behavior of a completely ideologically corrupt and morally bankrupt party with no future beyond licking the heels of the real political power in the United States. Conservatives must demand a new kind of leadership willing to reject the poisonous racial and sexual grievance hierarchy of the left‚ or the right will most certainly DIE.
