Katie Porter breaks out dictionary to defend her claim that she lost election by 20 points because it was 'rigged'

Rep. Katie Porter (D-Calif.) found herself trying to play lexicographer on Wednesday after claiming she lost a primary election because it was rigged against her.On Super Tuesday‚ Porter lost the primary election for the late Dianne Feinstein's U.S. Senate seat. Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff and Republican Steve Garvey were the top two candidates in the open primary‚ each achieving more than 30% of the vote. Porter came in third place with 13.9% of the vote.Porter responded to her embarrassing loss by claiming that billionaires had spent millions of dollars "to rig this election." That‚ she suggested‚ is why she lost. — (@) The outrageous claim — for which Porter offered not a shred of evidence — was widely mocked by Republicans‚ Democrats‚ and the media. But that didn't stop Porter from doubling down.Instead of eating her slice of humble pie‚ Porter tried to play a game of semantics and defended her claim about a "rigged" election. In a follow-up statement‚ she said:"Rigged" means manipulated by dishonest means. A few billionaires spent $10 million+ on attack ads against me‚ included an ad rated "false" by an independent fact checker. That is dishonest means to manipulate the outcome. I said "rigged by billionaires" and our politics are — in fact — manipulated by big dark money. Defending democracy means calling that out. There are two problems with Porter's statement.First‚ the word "rigged" does technically mean "to manipulate or control usually by deceptive or dishonest means" or "to fix in advance for a desired result‚" according to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary. But Porter is rigging her statement because the election was by no means rigged. Nobody manipulated or controlled it by deceptive means‚ and no one fixed it in advance for a specific outcome.Nothing illegal happened to cause Porter to lose by 20 points; that was her accomplishment.Second‚ Porter is not being honest. The "independent fact checker" that she cited is the Sacramento Bee‚ and the fact check to which she referred did not conclude with a ruling of "false." The rating was "mostly false" because‚ according to the Bee‚ the ad in question is "misleading." The ad claimed that "Big Pharma‚" "Big Oil‚" and "Big Bank" supported Porter's campaign. The Bee‚ in fact‚ discovered that a pharmaceutical company‚ oil company‚ and bank did support Porter. But it was ruled "mostly false" because the bank services Asian Americans‚ while the oil company and pharmaceutical companies are not part of their industry's lobbying groups.Splitting hairs‚ no doubt — and perhaps even "rigged" in Porter's favor.Like Blaze News? New York deploys National Guard in subway to reduce crime‚ but is that what it's really about?

New York deploys National Guard in subway to reduce crime‚ but is that what it's really about?

It appears woke cities are beginning to acknowledge that their soft-on-crime policies are actually encouraging more crime. Funny how that works. New York Gov. Kathy Hochul‚ for example‚ has decided to send 750 National Guard troops to New York City’s subways to crack down on the growing violence. While crime in the subway is up 45% year on year‚ Glenn Beck doesn’t believe a pseudo-military state is the best solution. “She says that’s going to help with crime in the subways‚” Glenn says‚ but “there’s another way to do that.” That other way‚ of course‚ is enforcing the laws and jailing criminals‚ rather than mimicking the stop-and-frisk method. “So‚ she sends in 750 uniformed National Guard soldiers with orders to search bags for weapons and other dangerous stuff — so‚ isn’t that stop and frisk? I think that is‚” Glenn says. In one recent story that illustrates Glenn’s point of enforcing the law and jailing criminals‚ four people were arrested in connection to three incidents of human remains being found on Long Island. All four were charged on Wednesday with first degree hindering prosecution‚ tampering with physical evidence‚ and concealment of a human corpse. All four pleaded not guilty; however‚ they have not been charged with the murder of the two victims. They’re now on unsupervised release. “Wouldn’t it be better to put the people who are charged with crimes‚ even grizzly‚ heinous crimes‚ into jail‚ and not let them right back out on the street? I’m just saying‚ that’s an idea‚” Glenn says. Glenn believes there’s a reason the increase in crime and the real solutions are being ignored — and it’s not mere incompetence. “This administration is doing nothing but empowering all the people that would love to see us live in chaos‚” Glenn says. Communication devices found on Chinese-built cranes located at US ports spark espionage concerns

A congressional espionage investigation uncovered communication devices on some Chinese-built cargo cranes located at several U.S. ports‚ the Wall Street Journal reported Thursday.Representatives from the Department of Homeland Security and Coast Guard stated during a recent House Subcommittee on Transportation and Maritime Security hearing that 80% of cargo cranes in the United States are built in China.Christa Brzozowski‚ acting assistant secretary for trade and economic security at the DHS‚ stated‚ "We absolutely agree and we do see an overreliance on these People's Republic of China (PRC) manufacturer cranes‚" CNBC reported.More than 99% of the cargo coming to the country from overseas moves through seaports. U.S. ports produce $5.4 trillion in economic activity and support the employment of approximately 31 million Americans‚ according to the American Association of Port Authorities. Last year‚ national security and Department of Justice officials warned that the Chinese-built seaport cranes‚ made by Shanghai-based manufacturing company ZPMC‚ could be a Trojan horse‚ the WSJ stated. At the time‚ China said that the Biden administration's espionage concerns were nothing more than "paranoia-driven." China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs wrote‚ "The accusation that China uses ship-to-shore cranes to collect data is completely unfounded. The US needs to respect the principles of market economy &; fair competition‚ and provide a fair‚ just and non-discriminatory business environment."The AAPA wrote off the claims as "sensational‚" stating there was no evidence to support the administration's concerns‚ CNBC reported. On February 21‚ President Biden signed an executive order to "bolster the security of the nation's ports." The administration noted that it planned to invest more than $20 billion in the production of port cranes to bring manufacturing back to America. The WSJ reported Thursday that a probe into the cranes found that several contained communications devices that were not requested‚ including more than a dozen cellular modems. Such devices are often used to monitor crane operations remotely. In December‚ one port told the House Homeland Security Committee‚ "We are unsure who installed the modems‚ as they were on the cranes when we first saw them in China." The port speculated that the modems were installed in 2017 when the cranes were built in China. The devices were removed in 2023.Republican Rep. Mark Green (Tenn.) told the WSJ that China "is looking for every opportunity to collect valuable intelligence and position themselves to exploit vulnerabilities by systematically burrowing into America's critical infrastructure — including in the maritime sector.""The United States has clearly overlooked this threat for far too long‚" Green noted.Last week‚ the Homeland Security Committee told ZMPC that the communication devices do not "contribute to the operation of the (ship-to-shore) cranes or maritime infrastructure and is not part of any existing contract between ZPMC and the receiving U.S. maritime port‚" WSJ reported.ZMPC has not responded to requests for comment from CNBC or the Daily Caller News Foundation.Like Blaze News? France’s Abortion Vote Is Another Revolution

A constitutional enshrinement of abortion as a principle of government is as literal a repudiation of Burkean intergenerational consciousness as can be imagined.
