Willie Nelson Quits Smoking At 92 – But Here’s What He Does Instead
Willie Nelson may be 92, but he’s not ready to call it quits, especially when it comes to music. In a recent interview, the country singer shared something personal: he’s officially stopped smoking.
It’s a big change for someone whose name has long been tied to cannabis culture. But Nelson says it’s all about listening to his body. And while he may have put down this habit, he’s not stepping away from the things he loves, including music and marijuana advocacy.

When asked by Forbes how he stays energized on tour, Nelson replied, “I can’t smoke anymore. My lungs have already said, ‘Don’t do that.’” These days, he leans on the occasional edible and takes things easier. This comes after his earlier decision in 2019 to give up smoking cigarettes. At the time, his team clarified he was still using marijuana in other ways. But now, even that has become less frequent.
Even so, he hasn’t walked away from the cannabis world. Nelson continues to run Willie’s Reserve, a company that focuses on quality marijuana products and consumer education. He’s long supported legalization, once joking, “I bought so much, it’s time to start selling it back.” He’s also known for some unforgettable moments, like the time he smoked with Snoop Dogg in Amsterdam or when he lit up on the roof of the White House with President Jimmy Carter’s son.

With smoking behind him, Willie Nelson is focusing more on music now
Though he’s letting go of smoking, Nelson isn’t giving up the stage. His new album, Oh What a Beautiful World, is focused on positivity and simple happiness. “I think it’s time we try to make people happy and talk about the good things,” he told Forbes.

At 92, he’s still doing what he loves — writing songs, playing music, and connecting with his fans. He may have put some of his old habits behind him, but he’s holding on to the things that matter most to him now.
