Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) said during an interview over the weekend that former President Donald Trump needed to act more professional on the campaign trail as he tries to retake the White House. Scott‚ who dropped out of the presidential race before any voting happened because he failed to gain traction with voters‚ made the remarks during a Sunday interview with Dana Bash on CNN’s “State of the Union.” “Senator‚ Donald Trump is launching some pretty personal attacks against Nikki Haley‚ who I know you have known for a very long time‚” Bash said. “He suggested she is ineligible to be president‚ even though she is. She was born in your home state of South Carolina. He repeatedly mocked her given first name‚ Nimarata‚ even though she has gone by her middle name‚ Nikki‚ her whole life.” “Would you rather that the man you endorse not use terms like Nimarata — names like Nimarata‚ seeming to try to make a point to his supporters?” she later asked. “Well‚ I would like for all politicians to comport themselves in a way that is consistent with the highest office‚” Scott responded. “On the campaign trail‚ people say things‚ and‚ interestingly enough‚ then‚ after the campaign is over‚ everybody unites. What we need in the Republican Party is to start uniting behind one candidate. That candidate is only going to be Donald Trump.” “So‚ when we’re thinking about what’s next‚ it shouldn’t be attacks against each other‚” he continued. “We should turn our attention to Joe Biden and to the American people and what they want. They want a better future. They want another American century. They want hundreds of thousands of good-paying jobs across this nation.” “When we start talking about the underlying issues and the principles that undergird human flourishing and what makes America the most exceptional country on the planet‚ then we’re having a conversation‚” he concluded. “That won’t happen until we get to the general election. Megalodon (Otodus megalodon) just got a tentative makeover thanks to new research that has estimated its body form. The study leaned on "three critical pieces of information" that have become available in recent years‚ and it paints a very different picture of this enormous bloodthirsty fish.The first piece in the tryptic puzzle was the temperature of the megalodon's blood‚ with researchers concluding that it was warm-blooded‚ just like the modern great white shark its body form has previously been modeled off. However‚ it wasn’t the only one to join the warm-blooded club.Basking sharks that feed on plankton and are still alive today were also found to be warm-blooded‚ which was interesting because they’re slow‚ sluggish swimmers – a trait typically associated with cold-blooded animals. This told researchers that being warm-blooded didn’t necessarily make megalodon a fast swimmer.The third piece of critical information was that megalodon was found to like be a slow-cruising shark based on an analysis of its scales. In short‚ two out of the three cast doubt on the great white’s body form being a suitable comparison for megalodon.“The previously published reconstruction of the vertebral column of Megalodon based on an incomplete set of fossil vertebrae of the species from Belgium was measured to be 11.1 meters [36.4 feet] without accounting for the length of the head or tail‚” study co-lead Kenshu Shimada‚ a palaeobiologist at DePaul University in Chicago‚ told IFLScience. Shimada co-led a huge team of well-known shark experts with Phillip Sternes‚ a doctoral candidate at the University of California at Riverside.The previously reconstructed Otodus megalodon body form (dark grey) was based largely on the modern white shark. Scientists are now leaning towards the light grey body form‚ but the exact extent of body elongation‚ the shape of the head‚ and the outline and position of each fin remain unknown based on the present fossil record.Image credit: DePaul University/Kenshu Shimada“However‚ the same megalodon individual was previously calculated to be just 9.2 meters [30.2 feet]‚ including the head and the tail‚ based on the size ratio of the largest vertebral diameters between the modern great white shark individuals of known body lengths and the megalodon fossil‚" he continued.“While the previous studies were stuck with the idea that megalodon ought to have looked like the modern great white shark‚ our new study highlights the discrepancy in size estimates and emphasizes the empirical fossil evidence – the fact that the megalodon individual could not have measured less than 11.1 meters where that measurement does not even account for the head and tail lengths. Therefore‚ our general conclusion is that megalodon must have had a slender body compared to the body proportion seen in the modern great white shark.”Like modern sharks‚ megalodon’s skeleton would’ve been made up of cartilage. This doesn’t preserve well in the fossil record‚ which is why confidently concluding what they looked like is a tricky task. For now‚ at least‚ it seems we should be more open-minded about what this ancient apex predator might have looked like.That is‚ until we find one crucial thing...“Our study suggests that we need to think 'outside the box' when it comes to inferring the biology of Megalodon‚ where the modern great white shark may not necessarily serve as a good modern analog for assessing at least certain aspects of its biology‚” concluded Kenshu. “The reality is that we need the discovery of one or more complete Megalodon skeletons to be confident of megalodon's body form.”The study is published in the journal Palaeontologia Electronica.

While on the campaign trail in South Carolina‚ she chastised Vice President Kamala Harris over the Biden campaign’s apparent unwillingness to…attack Donald Trump? Watch as Bruce expresses her dissatisfaction at Team Biden’s lack of aggressiveness‚ asking Harris‚ “what are you waiting for”?  MARY BRUCE: Both Biden and Harris face negative approval ratings. And though some recent battleground state polls show Harris actually outperforming Biden in hypothetical matchups against Trump‚ both come up short to the former president. Harris however‚ remains confident they will win this race.  VICE PRESIDENT KAMALA HARRIS: If it is Donald Trump‚ we've beat him before and we'll beat him again.  BRUCE: But that confidence has even some top Democrats concerned‚ urging the campaign to be more aggressive.  BRUCE: Why not go out and attack Donald Trump- go after his legal challenges? What are you guys waiting for?  HARRIS: Well‚ let me just tell you something. I am of the school that you either run without an opponent or you run scared. I have learned that to be a fact‚ and that is the way that I feel about any election. So absolutely not. You can't take anything for granted‚ and we have a duty‚ a responsibility to earn this re-elect. This entire interview‚ a comedy in three acts‚ is an exercise in attempting to coax the Biden campaign into addressing the core concerns of some of their key constituencies‚ chief among them‚ the media.  First‚ Bruce opens with the age question. This is‚ of course‚ done in order to elicit some variant of the “Biden’s age is an asset” narrative that’s been recently rolled out. Harris’ response before getting cut off: VICE PRESIDENT KAMALA HARRIS: He is extraordinarily smart. He has the ability to see around the corner in terms of what might be the challenges we face as a nation or globally… A journalist in this position might have asked what Biden thought he saw around the corner when unraveling the southern border. Alas‚ Bruce lamented that voters aren’t really buying this line. Bruce then pivots to abortion before honing in on Biden’s bad approval ratings‚ which is framed as a “struggle to sell their accomplishments”. As our very own Tim Graham notes: this is how you can tell a reporter is a Democrat‚ and there was no such acknowledgement of “struggle to sell” when Trump was in office. “Struggle” implies that some heretofore unknown external force is hindering Biden’s approval from soaring to the stratosphere‚ as opposed to what we see with our very own eyes along the border- which went strangely unmentioned throughout this interview. And it is here where Bruce knocks Harris for not being aggressive enough. You will notice in the video we clipped for you that Bruce hides her campaign cheerleading behind the concerns of “top Democrats”. This is what enables her to openly offer campaign advice‚ that Biden-Harris attack Trump over his “legal challenges”‚ as a both question and impatient exhortation. “What are you guys waiting for”? Given both the media's role in furthering the Biden campaign and the Biden White House’s actual conduct of lawfare against Donald Trump‚ the question seemed weird. What else is the campaign supposed to do to aggressively push that message? And furthermore‚ as Graham points out‚ that’s the media’s role.  Most tellingly‚ the interview ended with a rambling non-answer on Biden’s decline with black voters‚ and no follow-up. This was less an interview than an exercise in campaign communications delivered by state media.
