The only problem? Nobody can understand what she’s saying. But there were also a lot of people who were accusing Brooks of overexaggerating her accent for the song, leading to some confusion with the lyrics. Now, I’m from West Virginia. I can listen to Jesco and Mamie White and understand every word they say. It always cracks me up when television shows have to put subtitles on people from the south because people can’t understand them. But no matter how many times I listened to that song, I couldn’t figure out what in the world she was saying.
