The Mitchells vs. the Machines 2 Officially in Development at Netflix With New Directors

News The Mitchells vs. the Machines The Mitchells vs. the Machines 2 Officially in Development at Netflix With New Directors Will the Mitchells get to battle something other than machines? By Matthew Byrd | Published on October 22, 2025 Photo: Netflix Comment 0 Share New Share Photo: Netflix Variety reports that The Mitchells vs. the Machines 2 is officially in development with Netflix set to distribute the Sony Pictures project. The details of that arrangement are indeed a bit odd. Due to distribution issues caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Sony Pictures sold the distribution rights to 2021’s The Mitchells vs. the Machines to Netflix. Ultimately, Netflix decided to give the film a limited theatrical release before bringing the movie to its streaming service. While we can assume that the sequel will follow a similar distribution model, it’s worth noting that Netflix has been getting a bit more generous with their theatrical releases and may have learned a valuable lesson from the success of KPop Demon Hunters‘ limited theatrical releases. Given how popular The Mitchells vs. the Machines ended up being, it’s possible that this sequel could end up enjoying at least a slightly longer theatrical run. However, nothing has been confirmed at this time. What we do know is that Guillermo Martinez (head of story for The Mitchells vs. the Machines) and JP Sans (co-director of The Bad Guys 2) have signed on to direct this sequel. Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are also returning to produce. No word yet on original director Mike Rianda’s involvement, though it’s likely that he will return in some capacity given that he voiced multiple characters in the first movie. That said, we really don’t know anything about the sequel’s plot, so it’s tough to say how much of the original cast will actually return. Even the sequel’s title is up in the air. It’s popularly being referred to as The Mitchells vs. the Machines 2, though the Mitchells seemingly scored a pretty decisive victory over the machines in the first movie. So either the machines return or the Mitchells will actually face off against a new threat this time around. We shall see. There’s no word yet regarding the sequel’s release date, so you have plenty of time to watch the original if you haven’t already done so. It’s really, really good. Until then, check out the movie’s trailer for a taste of how much fun it is to watch a barely functioning family become unlikely heroes. Atlanta City Council Chairmanship Race Raises Questions About ‘Changes in Policing’

A fierce campaign is underway for Atlanta City Council president in Georgia. The two contenders are Rohit Malhotra, a left-wing nonprofit executive, and City Council member Marci Collier Overstreet.  A debate in early October exposed the wide gap between Overstreet, who has served for several years on the City Council, and Malhotra, who has been described as “representing the more progressive wing of Atlanta politics.” “Mr. Rohit should really own up to the fact that he wants to defund or abolish the police department,” Overstreet said in a brittle exchange during the debate. “The words ‘defund the police’—which I have never said, actually—came after George Floyd was murdered, and people were asking for changes in policing,” Malhotra countered. “What does safety look like without always only talking about policing only? Policing is a part of a comprehensive strategy. It doesn’t have to be the only one, and to create a false binary is not only wrong, it’s dangerous,” the nonprofit executive contended. In August 2023, Malhotra signed onto a letter criticizing the process by which the Atlanta Public Safety Training Center had been constructed. The training center was designed to allow police officers, firefighters, emergency medical services personnel, and E-911 staff to train in a local area, according to the center’s website.  “There has also been copious disagreement about where, how, and—frankly—whether it should be built,” a portion of the letter reads. “Supporters and dissenters of these decisions—including Mayor Andre Dickens and several City Council members—agree on one thing: The city of Atlanta’s decision from the outset did not include sufficient, equitable, nor transparent public engagement,” the letter continues. Despite that strong sentiment more than two years ago, Malhotra now appears to have not much to say about where he stands on policing on his campaign website. What little he does say involves advocating for treating “gun violence as a public health crisis: invest in community-based violence interruption, diversion, and conflict mediation,” developing “data-driven metrics so we measure what actually produces safety (not just reactions),” and providing “support for families impacted by violence—mental health, funeral/therapy costs, ongoing local support.” Malhotra also calls for pilot programs “like universal basic income and baby bonds to build generational wealth.” The role Malhotra and Overstreet are seeking is more than just ceremonial. The president of the Atlanta City Council chairs meetings, casts tiebreaking votes, and appoints committee chairmen and members of committees for issues such as public safety and city utilities. He or she also serves as an interim mayor in the event that something happens to the elected mayor. Serving on the City Council can also be a steppingstone for a run for mayor of Atlanta. Malhotra is the founder and executive director—currently on a leave of absence—of the Center for Civic Innovation. The center discusses at length its emphasis on “equity” as a part of its work.  “We confront the systemic inequalities that have made Atlanta the most unequal city in the U.S., with an emphasis on race, income, gender, and geography,” the organization explains on its website under a section titled “Our Values.” According to tax filings published by ProPublica, Malhotra was paid $150,000 in fiscal year 2024 by the center, and the combined salaries and wages for Malhotra and his staff make up more than 63% of the nonprofit’s total expenses. He previously was an Ash Innovation Fellow in the Obama White House’s Office of Management and Budget. Malhotra went to school in Atlanta at Emory University and received a master’s degree in public policy from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.  The election will be held on Nov. 4. The Daily Signal reached out to the campaigns of both Overstreet and Malhotra for comment. Daily Signal Is Obtaining Pentagon Press Credentials

There is no greater duty for American journalists than to truthfully inform the public about their government, most especially efforts to keep the homeland safe from national security threats both foreign and domestic. Many have honored that patriotic obligation with distinction. More than 50 years ago, journalists reporting on the Vietnam War uncovered startling information and revealed government deception. More recently, investigations into the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq exposed strategic failures of our leaders. These kinds of stories have challenged the perception of our government and altered the course of American history. Sadly, too many journalists in recent years have abdicated this responsibility. Some reported that President Donald Trump colluded with Russia to influence the results of the 2016 election. Some published anonymous claims that the sitting president called service members “suckers and losers” despite mountains of on-the-record evidence to the contrary. Some failed to thoroughly investigate claims of “Russian bounties” on U.S. troops in Afghanistan. These stories eroded the public’s trust in media and jeopardized the credibility of the press. Access vs. Accountability For journalists, the tension between access and accountability will always be a real one. Access in the form of relationships helps journalists to understand more fully the powerful institutions they cover and accurately communicate complex issues to the public. Accountability demands that journalists challenge those same relationships by scrutinizing the individuals vested with public authority. Good journalism is defined by prudently navigating this irreducible trade-off—never overcoming it, only managing it with vigilance and integrity. Today, the Department of War is announcing the next generation of the Pentagon press corps. We are excited to announce over 60 journalists, representing a broad spectrum of new media outlets and independent journalists, have signed the Pentagon’s media access policy and will be…— Sean Parnell (@SeanParnellASW) October 22, 2025 Pentagon’s New Press Guidance The Department of War recently released updated press guidance for coverage of the Pentagon. These guidelines have sparked a vigorous public debate over whether the new policy upsets the balance between access and accountability, thus compromising core journalistic principles.  Some publications have fallen on either side of the debate after good-faith consideration. Others appear to be deliberately misrepresenting this policy. Despite the protests of some members of the Pentagon press corps, the public deserves truthful reporting on national security. Now is a critical time to do that work. The current administration is seeking the wholesale revitalization of the American military, the restructuring of our defense industrial base, and the emergence of world-changing military technologies. Meanwhile, America is engaging in military action against Venezuela and drug traffickers, an uneasy ceasefire holds in the Middle East, and the pursuit of peace between Russia and Ukraine continues. The Daily Signal’s Decision With this in mind, The Daily Signal has decided to obtain credentials for the Pentagon. This decision came after consulting legal advisers, trusted industry colleagues, and national security experts, plus Department of War staff who crafted the policy and explained how it would impact our work. The Daily Signal holds itself to the highest standards of journalism. Our duty to truthfully report on national security—striking the proper balance between access and accountability—is not negotiable. Nothing in the Pentagon’s updated guidelines can or will alter our methods and reporting, both of which are of paramount importance for our news organization. We will continue to adhere to the journalistic principles and practices that have guided our work since 2014. We are committed to serving our audience as a reliable source of news. That’s our promise. The post Daily Signal Is Obtaining Pentagon Press Credentials appeared first on The Daily Signal.

How a Pope Impacted World Politics

How a Pope Impacted World Politics

Oct. 22 is the Catholic feast day in remembrance of Pope St. John Paul II. The story of his life is an inspiration for countless Catholic and non-Catholics. His witness of faith and courage in the face of darkness continues to shine as an example to the world for how we ought to respond to trials in our own lives. Growing up in Communist Poland, John Paul lost every member of his immediate family by the time he was 20 years old. His mother died when he was very young, then his brother as a teenager, and finally his father as he entered the second decade of his life. Despite experiencing such tragedy, Karol Wojtyla entered the underground seminary in order to say yes to the call from God to be a priest. He risked his life to do so. The theme of sacrificial love and the willingness to place others before himself was the constant chorus of his life. Early in his papacy this was personified in his visit to his hometown of Poland in June 1979. John Paul desired to see his home country and pray with one of the most vibrant and unshakeable Catholic nations the world has ever seen. There is no doubt that the Polish authorities at that time didn’t want his visit to happen. However, if they forbid him from arriving they risked outraging the people as well as admitting that this faith leader actually had an impact on the real world. Faith was deemed irrelevant, ridiculous and unnecessary. If they allowed him to come they knew that large groups of Catholics may come out to meet him which could spark an uprising from the people and leave Poland more susceptible to invasion from the Soviet Union. Peggy Noonan’s excellent book entitled, “John Paul the Great: Remembering a Spiritual Father,” recounts this scene and the events that surrounded it. It is vividly clear that the pope’s willingness to place himself against the powers of totalitarianism emboldened the people of Poland to hope for better lives and a more authentic experience of freedom. On the very first day of the trip the pope offered Mass in Victory Square in Warsaw. While the communists attempted to keep the gathering as quiet as possible, over one million Poles attended. In his homily, the pope noted that the Polish people have become a new version of witnesses (not dissimilar to the early Apostles). This was due to the fact that Poland was on the world stage as a nation being persecuted. In such a context of global and public suffering, John Paul urged those attending to consider that such witnesses have a duty and obligation. “Are we capable of them?” he asked the multitudes gathered. In order to be a witness who is convicted to pronounce the truth and bring about change, John Paul II said that we must remember the reality of the human person. Who are we and what are we made for? The human person can only be understood in reference to God. For Poland, the pope said that her history does not make sense without Christ because the community of Poland has always been so entrenched in their faith. “If we reject this key to understanding our nation,” he continued, “we lay ourselves open to a substantial misunderstanding. We no longer understand ourselves. It is impossible without Christ to understand this nation with its past so full of splendor and also of terrible difficulties.” The pope was noting that only with God can we know that our suffering will not have the last word. Only in clinging to one’s relationship with the God who defeated death can we rise above any trial and renew our world. To illustrate this point even further, the pope ended his words with reference to the fact that Victory Square housed the tomb of the Unknown Soldier. All over the world, he noted, there are tombs that are unnamed. Tombs that remind us of the countless witnesses who sacrificed their lives for our freedoms. Their lives and their deaths shout out to the world that the inviolable rights of man are worth sacrificing for. The suffering of the Poles was a fact, and the pope was both recognizing it and asking them to accept the invitation to provide witness to the redeeming quality of sacrificial love. He asked the crowd if they were willing to accept the duties that come along with such a witness. Their response is noted by Noonan to sound like “thunder” as they began to chant, “We want God, we want God, we want God …” Authors and scholars have recounted that the pope’s journey to Poland marked a shift toward the demise of communism in Europe. He ignited hope in his homeland because he witnessed to the need for God, the power of sacrifice, and the capacity of each person to aid the renewal of the world. In order to be those witnesses that Poland needed, and to be the witnesses that our world needs today—we must be willing to place God back in the picture of society. We also must be willing to place our reputations on the line to proclaim the truth and proclaim the dignity of each person. If each person does so we will see another renewal across the globe similar to that in Poland. Because God is what we need and sacrifice conquers all darkness—if we witness to it. We publish a variety of perspectives. Politico's Jonathan Martin Avoids Blaming Politico for Hyping Flawed Candidates

Now that the heavily hyped Maine "oyster farmer," Graham Platner, who is running as a Democrat  to defeat incumbent Senator Susan Collins has been exposed as deeply flawed, Politico's senior political columnist Jonathan Martin has lashed out at who he considers responsible for foisting Platner upon us with minimal/no vetting. And according to Martin that culprit is primarily the Democrat party as you can see in his Wednesday column, "Democrats Keep Falling for Political Fantasies. When Will They Learn?." However, what is notable is that although he mentions "journalists" in passing, he conveniently overlooks Politico's own role in promoting the flawed oyster farmer. Will Democrats ever learn to stop swooning? I refer, as you may have guessed, to the case of Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner and the rinse-wash-repeat pattern that has become all too familiar for the party in the digital age. It goes something like this: Political outsider or mostly new name mounts statewide campaign with online video that leans heavily on compelling biography or powerful oratory, out-of-state liberal hobbyists quickly fall in love and fork over money, and journalists rush to profile the latest heartthrob before inevitable disappointment when the candidate loses or, well, becomes John Fetterman. Platner is the latest example. A military veteran turned oysterman who looked the hirsute part, the Mainer’s populist candidacy seemed to be an immaculate conception. The contributions piled up, the profiles were published and then suddenly there was a disruption to the formula. Or maybe it was more of an acceleration. Once his Democratic rival, Maine Gov. Janet Mills, entered the race, Platner was hit with a nor’easter of oppo research that had the added value of being his own damning words. Rationalizing political violence, calling himself a “communist,” referring to all police as “bastards” and calling himself an “antifa supersoldier,” Platner’s paper trail was the stuff of Senator Susan Collins’s dreams. And that was before Platner tried to get ahead of the next hit by revealing the apparent Nazi tattoo on his naked torso. Actually, the tattoo's on his chest. But among those at the forefront of hyping Graham Platner was Jonathan Martin's own Politico. Yes, a periodical supposedly at the forefront of political journalism somehow failed to due any due diligence such as even a mild investigation into Platner's background. So point your finger all you want, Jonathan, but perhaps you should have pointed it at yourself and your Politico colleagues such as reporter Holly Otterbein, who produced this paean to the oyster farmer on August 19: "Maine oyster farmer wants to upend Democratic politics with Senate bid." A little-known oyster farmer is looking to upend top Democrats’ plans in Maine. Democrat Graham Platner, the 40-year-old owner of Waukeag Neck Oyster Co. and an Iraq and Afghanistan War veteran, announced Tuesday he is mounting a challenge to Republican Sen. Susan Collins. Platner has never run for office, and his campaign threatens to disrupt national Democrats’ efforts to recruit and unite around Gov. Janet Mills. Gee! If Platner was "little-known" shouldn't Politico try to KNOW more about him BEFORE writing him up? In fact, since this story was written in August, Politico apparently did NOTHING to learn more about Platner and ended up being surprised by the entirely expected oppo research by the Janet Mills campaign. We return now to Jonathan Martin in the middle of another whine: It’s not as though the outsider candidates are emerging from thin air — who do you think is crafting those viral videos? If you think it’s oystermen in their spare time or Amy McGrath’s former flight crew and not another set of consultants, I’ve got a lobster roll for under $10 to sell you (and if you think a former Blackwater employee who tended bar at the Tune Inn and attended George Washington University is a total outsider, I’ve got a $5 one to sell you). Oh, NOW you tell us, Jonathan. Too bad Politico didn't inform us that Platner was hardly an outsider back in August when it would have counted for something.

Amazon's secret strategy to replace 600,000 American workers with robots

Internal documents have revealed that Amazon wants to avoid the costly human experience if it can.A scathing report by the New York Times that compiled interviews, along with what was described as a cache of internal documents, showed that Amazon executives have aspirations of replacing approximately 600,000 U.S. jobs with robots.'Leaked documents often paint an incomplete and misleading picture of our plans.'The corporate decisions would allegedly pass on savings to the customer of upwards of 30 cents per item, while at the same time avoiding the hiring of about 160,000 new employees in the United States that would be needed by 2027.In the internal documents, Amazon executives told their board members it was their hope to avoid making new hires by ramping up robotic automation, which would negate the need for more than 600,000 human jobs. This would come at the same time that Amazon expected to double its sales by 2033.The alleged stated goal in the documents was to automate 75% of facility operations, while simultaneously executing good faith initiatives to avoid angering communities that are disparaged by the job losses. This included hosting parades and Toys for Tots programs that built upon an image of Amazon being a "good corporate citizen."Disturbingly, the documents reportedly discussed the idea of avoiding words that remind people of robots, an approach that Amazon strictly denied adopting.RELATED: CRASH: Amazon Web Services outage cripples apps, megacorps, and doorbells, shocking a fragile America A robot prepares to pick up a tote containing product during the first public tour of the newest Amazon Robotics fulfillment center on April 12, 2019, in Orlando, Florida. (Photo by Paul Hennessy/NurPhoto via Getty Images) The New York Times reported that Amazon contemplated avoiding terms such as "automation" and "A.I." in reference to robotics and would have rather used terms like "advanced technology." Instead of "robot," the word "cobot" was discussed being used because it implies collaboration with humans.Amazon told the NYT, however, that executives are not being told to avoid certain terms when referring to robotics and that its community relations plans had nothing to do with its automation plans. It said the documents were incomplete and did not represent Amazon's overall hiring strategy. The Verge, which received a statement, quoted Amazon spokesperson Kelly Nantel to the effect that "leaked documents often paint an incomplete and misleading picture of our plans, and that's the case here. In our written narrative culture," Nantel continued, "thousands of documents circulate throughout the company at any given time, each with varying degrees of accuracy and timeliness. We're actively hiring at operations facilities across the country and recently announced plans to fill 250,000 positions for the holiday season."RELATED: Microsoft rejects idea that company is replacing American workers with foreign labor after massive layoffs Photo by Joan Cros/NurPhoto via Getty Images Reporter Lewis Brackpool from Restore Britain told Return that while the numbers were troubling, the push for robotics could stand as a solution for the mass import of foreign workers."While in a perfect world citizens could thrive in their employment without the worry of being replaced by overseas workers, ditching foreign labor in exchange for robotics seems more preferable than our current situation," Brackpool theorized."A socialist-communist journalist by the name of Aaron Bastani once wrote a book called 'Fully Automated Luxury Communism,'" the commentator continued. "The book outlines a vision of a post-scarcity, post-capitalist society driven by technological advances such as automation, artificial intelligence, and synthetic biology. Even that is more preferable than to be replaced by the third world."Amazon employs approximately 1.1 million in the United States, representing about 70% of its global workforce, according to Red Stag Fulfillment. The company peaked at 1.61 million employees in 2021 and has a minimum wage of $18 per hour for all seasonable employees. Average pay reportedly increases by 15% for those employed for over three years. Like Blaze News? Bypass the censors, sign up for our newsletters, and get stories like this direct to your inbox. DHS reveals 'violent rap sheets' of illegal aliens arrested on NYC's Canal Street

The Department of Homeland Security has provided the names and criminal histories of the illegal aliens who were arrested during an operation on New York City's infamous Canal Street black market.Federal agents swept through the area on Tuesday, as it is not uncommon for street sellers to be in the United States illegally. The operation turned chaotic after bystanders formed a mob to chase agents away, demanding they not target illegal aliens. On Wednesday, DHS said the illegal aliens arrested have "violent rap sheets" that include allegations of robbery, burglary, domestic violence, assaulting law enforcement, counterfeiting, drug trafficking, drug possession, and forgery. Each of the men arrested is from Africa, and at least five of them were released into the United States by the Biden-Harris administration.RELATED: Illegal alien shot after allegedly ramming car into federal vehicle was once honored by Democrat — (@) Mamadou Ndoye, "a criminal illegal alien from Mali, issued a final order of removal by an immigration judge in 2008, was previously arrested for crimes including assault, recklessly endangering, counterfeiting third degree, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, criminal sale of narcotics, possessing a controlled substance, possession of marijuana for sale, making false reports to law enforcement, and resisting arrest."Muhammad Ndiaye, "a criminal illegal alien from Senegal, with previous arrests for domestic violence, robbery, receiving stolen property, burglary, fraudulent accosting, forgery, counterfeiting, sale of a controlled substance, obstruction, and disorderly conduct. He entered the U.S. illegally on May 24, 2023, in a caravan of 26 people [and] was released by the Biden administration into the interior of the country."Modou Mboup, "a criminal illegal alien from Senegal, previously assaulted Mexican law enforcement, and he entered the U.S. in September 2023 in a caravan of 140 people at the southwest border and was released by the Biden administration into the country."Despite the illegal aliens' alleged criminal histories, Democrats in New York decried the operation."Thanks to the New Yorkers who mobilized quickly. #ICEOutOfNYC," New York City Comptroller Brad Lander said."Today [Trump's] agents used batons and pepper spray on street vendors and bystanders on Canal Street.
