Democrats heckled and booed a Democrat congresswoman from Washington state for backing a proposal to prevent noncitizens from voting in U.S. elections. Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, a second term U.S. House member, was unable to say much when she held a town hall event in Vancouver, Washington, Thursday night, both CNN and CBS affiliate KOIN 6 News reported. Gluesenkamp Perez voted for the SAVE Act, short for the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act, which passed with the support of all House Republicans but only five Democrats. The bill would require proof of citizenship when registering to vote.  The fiery town hall event offered a glimpse at how moderate Democrats are dealing with an increasingly leftward surging base.  The town hall was raucous enough that a Gluesenkamp Perez staffer said they had to get the congresswoman out of the area for “security reasons” when a KOIN 6 News reporter asked for a brief interview.  During the town hall, as constituents shouted, the congresswoman tried to explain her vote on the legislation. “Americans believe that only U.S. citizens should be determining the outcome of American elections,” Gluesenkamp Perez said. “And any idea that I am standing to disenfranchise people is patently false.”  Opponents of the SAVE Act have contended that it would place an unnecessary burden on people who want to register to vote by requiring a proof of citizenship. As noted in my book, “The Myth of Voter Suppression,” there have been numerous convictions of noncitizens who voted, while over the past two decades, voter participation has increased in states with voter ID laws. Polling suggests she is right about what Americans believe, as more than 70% oppose proposals to allow noncitizens to vote, while more than 80% support requiring proof of identity at the ballot box. The legislation also would unlikely disenfranchise anyone since proof that one is in the country legally is already required for getting employment in the United States via the I-9 form, or employment eligibility form, from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.  Still, her explanation didn’t go over well with attendees.  “I came here to hear what she has to say. Unfortunately, it always sounds like the same thing,” Anna Brouns, identified as a longtime district resident, told the news station.  The other Democrats who voted for the SAVE Act were Reps. Henry Cuellar and Vicente Gonzalez Jr. of Texas, Don Davis of North Carolina, and Jared Golden of Maine. FIRST ON THE DAILY SIGNAL—The Trump administration is introducing digital access to Social Security numbers, refuting the left-wing media narrative that the president is cutting entitlement programs.   The Social Security Administration’s new digital Social Security number feature will allow account holders to have secure digital access to their Social Security number, The Daily Signal has learned.  Individuals who have forgotten their SSN or misplaced their cards will be able to securely view their SSN online through the my Social Security portal. The new feature will be available early this summer.  CNN published an article on March 11 suggesting that Elon Musk intended to eliminate Social Security benefits.  But Musk was referring to “waste and fraud” in entitlement spending, the White House clarified, adding that the Trump administration will never cut Social Security, Medicare, or Medicaid benefits. “The waste and fraud in entitlement spending — which is most of the federal spending is entitlements — so, that’s, like, the big one to eliminate,” Musk said. “That’s the, sort of half-trillion, maybe $6-700 billion a year.” In his first public speech since losing the presidency, Joe Biden said Trump planned to gut Social Security: “They’ve taken a hatchet to the Social Security Administration, pushing an additional 7,000 employees—7,000!—out the door in that time,” he said. The modernized Social Security feature proves that entitlement programs are not going anywhere, a White House official said. The new Social Security feature, which the Social Security Administration says aims to provide a modernized, secure, and accessible alternative to the traditional physical SSN card, will be available early this summer.  The digital cards will be available on mobile devices through the my Social Security app.  “We are proud to offer this new digital solution to our account holders,” Acting Administrator Lee Dudek said in a statement to The Daily Signal. “This enhancement reflects our commitment to providing better service to the public while ensuring that their personal information remains secure.” The Social Security Administration hopes to reduce the need for in-person visits to offices, as well as the wait to receive a Social Security card through the mail.  “We believe that this modern approach will meet the needs of our constituents in a more efficient manner,” Dudek said.  The post EXCLUSIVE: Trump Administration Unveils Digital Social Security Card Access appeared first on The Daily Signal.

Sen. Brian Schatz, D-Hawaii, a hard-core liberal, is seen by insiders as a leading contender to succeed the retiring Sen. Dick Durbin of Illinois as the Senate Democratic whip in the next Congress. Schatz has served in the Senate since December 2012 and currently serves in a party leadership role as the chief deputy whip. Two other Senate Democrats, Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota and Patty Murray of Washington, are also seen by some Senate insiders as potential candidates for the No. 2 position in the Senate Democratic Caucus. Schatz, 52, is thought to be a strong contender given his relative youth. Klobuchar and Murray are 64 and 74, respectively.  If Senate Democrats choose Schatz as their next whip, they would be doubling down on the sort of uber- liberalism that was rejected by voters in the 2024 elections. Schatz was a proponent of same-sex marriage even before the Supreme Court’s 5-4 ruling legalizing it nationwide in 2015. Just last month, he opposed federal legislation that would have banned transgender biological males from participating in girls and women’s sports nationally.  “What Republicans are doing today is inventing a problem to stir up a culture war and divide people against each other,” Schatz said on the Senate floor. Prominent female athletes who have had to compete against biological males, among them Riley Gaines and Payton McNabb, see it differently.  McNabb, of North Carolina, was left with a serious concussion after a trans-identifying male athlete spiked a volleyball into her face at an estimated 65 mph at a high school volleyball game when she was 17 in 2022. The Hawaii lawmaker has been a co-sponsor of the pro-LGBTQ Equality Act, which critics say would adversely impact religious freedom in the United States. He has received several perfect scorecards from the pro-LGBTQ Human Rights Campaign and has been endorsed by its political action committee. Schatz opposes all restrictions on abortion. Additionally, he supports funding Planned Parenthood and voted against the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act that would have codified the rights of babies who are born alive after an abortion to have the same legal protections as other newborns born at the same gestational state.  On health care, Schatz supports Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., on the latter’s single-payer health care proposal. He has also proposed a plan to expand Medicaid to let every American buy into the federal program if their state permits it, which would move the U.S. closer to a single-payer system.  Before entering politics, Schatz taught at his alma mater, the prestigious Punahou School in Hawaii, of which former President Barack Obama is another notably alumnus. After some time in the nonprofit world, Schatz successfully ran for a seat in the Hawaii House of Representatives in 1998. He served in the state legislature until 2006. That year, Schatz ran for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, but lost to his future Senate colleague-to-be, Mazie Hirono. After his failed bid for Congress, Schatz became an early supporter of Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign, and he chaired the state Democratic Party in Hawaii. Schatz served as lieutenant governor of Hawaii from 2010 to 2012, until he was appointed to fill the remainder of Democrat Sen. Daniel Inouye’s term after the latter died in office. Schatz was elected in his own right to the Senate in 2014 in a special election and again in 2016 in a regularly scheduled general election. He was reelected in 2022 by a supermajority of Hawaii voters, garnering more than 71% of the vote. An official at the World Health Organization (WHO) brazenly admitted to being behind worldwide censorship during the COVID-19 pandemic, but that’s not his most disturbing confession.  WHO Team Lead for Digital Channels Andy Pattison explained during an April 15 interview with the Planet Classroom Podcast the role his globalist organization took in pushing major social media platforms to censor users. Pattison discussed how the WHO worked with Big Tech on so-called misinformation prior to COVID-19. The Democrats are already getting ready for the 2028 election, but their choices aren’t looking so hot. And a list created by The Hill of their top 10 contenders couldn’t make that any clearer. “It’s not a promising list. It’s not looking that good,” Stu Burguiere of “Stu Does America” comments, adding, “They literally have, at number 10, Stephen A. Smith.” Stephen A. Smith is an ESPN personality who has spent his career discussing sports and getting into public scuffles with Jason Whitlock of “Fearless.” Smith has publicly toyed with the idea of running for president in several interviews — but the fact that he made it on to the list has Stu pretty hopeful for the Republican ticket. “This is how pathetic this field is. This is how thin the bench is for the Democratic Party,” he says, before moving onto number nine on the list: Rahm Emanuel. Emanuel was Barack Obama’s chief of staff. Stu notes that he has been relatively unheard of since the Obama era. “It’s hard to imagine he would even have a chance,” he comments. Pete Buttigieg also made the list at number eight, which Stu says “has got to be terrifying for you if you’re on the left,” while JB Pritzker came in at number seven. “Who put together this list? This is a catastrophe,” he says, adding, “So far, this is a bunch of nobodies outside of Stephen A. Smith, who almost certainly won’t run.” Whoever wrote the list certainly still has hope for a Kamala Harris presidency, as she made the list at number six, right after Governor Wes Moore (D-Md.) at number five. “This one I see a lot of hype for,” Stu says. “Hasn’t really accomplished an awful lot, kind of an unknown nationally, but he’s generally a pretty good communicator.” Shockingly, even Governor Gavin Newsom (D-Calif.) is a top contender at number four. Stu says he “has been a catastrophe for the state of California.” “Let’s be honest about it. He was awful during COVID. He went out to dinner when he was trying to convince everyone else they needed to be in lockdown. That was just a total disaster. He almost got recalled,” Stu explains. Number three isn’t much better. “Gretchen Whitmer at number three is a disaster. She’s terrible,” Stu says, before getting to number two, who Stu admits is “a bit scary to the right.” “It’s Josh Shapiro. Shapiro has handled a lot of the situations in his state pretty well,” he explains. “He did a pretty good job coming out talking about political violence; he kind of talked about it on either side of the aisle.” “AOC, number one. The number-one possibility, according to The Hill, for 2028,” Stu says, shocked. “I will say, there is a path there. The path is that people really don’t like Donald Trump. The presidency goes terrible, and they’ll just reflect to whatever Democrat wins, and she’s seen as the only one taking this seriously.” “But making AOC the voice of the left is a good thing for Republicans generally. But if things go very badly, like if there’s a massive economic crisis, then any Democrat will win,” he warns.
