Morning Brief: DEI Fraud Exposed, Mamdani’s Radical Moves, & Minnesota Scandal Reveals Fault Lines

Daily Wire Investigative Reporter Luke Rosiak details his reporting on governmental waste and fraud before Congress, controversy swirls around Zohran Mamdani’s administration-to-be, and House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-MN) gives us an inside look at Minnesota’s fraud scandal. It’s Thursday, December 11, 2025, and this is the news you need to know to start your day. Today’s edition of the Morning Wire podcast can be heard below, and the video version can be seen on The Daily Wire: Senate Digs Into DEI Fraud Topline: The Senate is investigating a multi-billion-dollar DEI fraud scheme, as the Federal Reserve lowered interest rates, sending markets soaring.  Senate drills into DEI: The Small Business Administration’s 8(a) program was initially intended to offer support for those deemed “socially and economically disadvantaged.” Under the Biden administration, federal agencies were instructed to ensure 15% of all contracts were given to businesses operated by minorities or women, meaning billions of taxpayer dollars were awarded based on race and gender in what became one of the largest DEI programs in the country. Not only was the program intentionally excluding people based on race, but it was also ripe with fraud. Daily Wire Investigative Reporter Luke Rosiak documented countless cases in which minority business owners would win a contract, then outsource all the work to non-minority-owned businesses, pocketing most of the money in the process. On Wednesday, the Senate Committee on Small Business held a hearing to address the fraud, and Rosiak testified about his findings. “8A creates a random group of influence peddlers who like lobbyists, get rich by selling their access to government insiders to the benefit of big businesses, while driving up the cost for all of us. This is the kind of thing people hate about Washington. You owe it to voters to end this program,” said Rosiak. Interest rates: On Wednesday, the Federal Reserve Board voted to cut interest rates by a quarter point to the 3.5%-3.75% range. That means rates have now come down by nearly 2% over the last year and a half. They’re now at their lowest point in more than three years. There was not unanimous agreement from the voting members of the Fed Board. For the first time in six years, three of the twelve officials cast dissenting votes, with two saying cuts weren’t needed, and one saying the cut should be bigger. Essentially, the disagreement stems from whether the Fed should prioritize the labor market, which has slowed significantly, or inflation, which remains well above the target range of 2%. Typically, rates are raised when inflation is high, and lowered when the labor market is cool. Ultimately, the Fed Board, led by Chair Jerome Powell, viewed the labor market as a more pressing matter, and said these cuts would help with hiring and unemployment.  Mamdani’s Rule Already Stirring Controversy Topline: As New York City braces for a seismic shift in leadership with democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani taking the helm as mayor next month, a wave of controversy is erupting over his early moves. Many political pundits, particularly those on the Right, warned that Mamdani would endanger public safety and undermine law enforcement, and now they say they’re seeing evidence for these claims even before he has officially taken office. One of the most talked-about moves came just days ago, when Mamdani put out a video addressed to immigrants living in New York City. In it, he told viewers they have the right to “stand up to ICE.” Critics argue this goes beyond merely explaining constitutional rights. Some say it could embolden illegal aliens, even those with criminal records, to resist or evade lawful ICE action. Mamdani’s transition: The transition team has been an explosive topic as Mamdani has tapped Mysonne Linen to be a key voice on justice reform on the “Committee on the Criminal Legal System.” Linen was once a rising hip-hop star signed to Def Jam. But in 1999, he was convicted of two armed robberies where he held up taxi drivers at gunpoint. He served seven years and was paroled in 2006. He then rebranded as a Black Lives Matter activist and co-founded Until Freedom with Linda Sarsour, a controversial pro-Palestinian activist who has also served as a Mamdani advisor. Christmas Sale – Get 40% off New DailyWire+ Annual Memberships The choice has driven law enforcement apoplectic. Correction officers’ union head Benny Boscio called it “disheartening and deeply disturbing.” Retired NYPD brass such as John Chell see a pattern with Mamdani filling his team with anti-cop firebrands like black nationalist Lumumba Bandele, defund-the-police guru Alex Vitale, and others. Mamdani says he just wants a broad array of “experiences and analysis” to draw from. What’s Behind The Massive Somali Fraud Scandal? Topline: The sweeping fraud allegations coming out of Minnesota have sparked demands for more investigations and further action from political leaders in D.C. to protect against billions more in taxpayer dollars getting funneled into the hands of fraudsters. Morning Wire spoke with House Majority Whip Tom Emmer, who represents Minnesota’s 6th congressional district, about the scandal. (This interview has been lightly edited.) Morning Wire: We have this massive fraud scandal continuing to unravel this week. What do you believe were the most critical oversight failures within the Walz administration? And how should Minnesota restructure its safeguards to prevent this from happening again? Emmer: The first thing you do is you got to get rid of [Minnesota Democratic Governor] Tim Walz and [Minnesota Attorney General] Keith Ellison and [Congresswoman] Ilhan Omar. I mean, there’s your biggest structural problem right there. Let me put some context around this for your viewers, your listeners. … The facts are this: today, there are roughly 80,000 Somali immigrants that are living in Minnesota. The vast majority of them live in Minneapolis or Hennepin County–an area called Cedar-Riverside. … Tim Walz and Keith Ellison cannot get votes in greater Minnesota. Think about this: in the last election, Tim Walz outspent the Republican candidates $15 million to $1.7 million, and he won with 52%, just over 52% of the vote. If you look a little deeper, we have 87 counties. Tim Walz only won the 13 metro counties. We’ll go a little farther. If you look at the 74 counties that he lost, he got 37% of the vote, including losing his former congressional seat by eight points. So, what is this about? This is about the fact that when he and Keith Ellison took office, Keith Ellison instantly set up a policy in his attorney general’s office that required his approval before any further investigations into fraud could go forward. Guess what? He’s never approved one of them. … And it’s not that all Somali immigrants are bad. It just so happens that 90% of the crimes we’re talking about have been committed by people that are in the Somali community. And by the way, they have been sending millions back to Somalia into the hands of Al-Shabaab, a known terrorist group. So, if you look at Keith Ellison, he won by a little less than one point in his last election. What is this all about? This is all about them getting re-elected. They need that 60 to 80,000 Somali population. They need them to be voting for them. That’s what this is all about. Morning Wire: You mentioned the word accountability. We do have some individual actors being convicted, but what about on the government level? What about some of these officials? Is there any action being taken to hold people accountable if they looked the other way knowingly? What investigations are going on with that, and what do you hope to see pursued? Emmer: Look, I think our U.S. Justice Department is starting to pick up where Minnesota should have been involved investigating not only the fraud but who might have been not just incompetent but actively engaged in the fraud because they should be criminally held, criminally responsible. You’ve got Dr. Oz, who’s investigating a fraud on the Medicaid program. You’ve got Kelly Loeffler, who’s investigating fraud in the SBA program. You got Kash Patel, who’s busy with his team investigating Somali gangs that have frankly been running rampant in the Twin Cities committing crimes and no one will hold them accountable for it.

Complete List Of Lorna Shore Songs From A to Z

Lorna Shore was formed in 2010 in Warren County, New Jersey, by guitarist Adam De Micco, drummer Scott Cooper, and vocalist Tom Barber. They started out in the local metalcore scene but quickly gained attention for their technical musicianship and their willingness to blend brutality with melody. Over time, the group evolved far beyond their early deathcore roots into one of the most dynamic and influential acts of their generation. Their debut EP, Triumph, was released in 2010 and was soon followed by Bone Kingdom in 2012. These early releases helped Lorna Shore gain traction within the underground metal scene, The post Complete List Of Lorna Shore Songs From A to Z appeared first on ClassicRockHistory.com.

Genetic Mutation Could Pave the Way for Self-Fertilizing Cereal Crops and a Revolution in Agriculture

Danish researchers have found a molecular switch that lets plants partner with nitrogen-fixing bacteria instead of fighting them, opening the way to self-fertilizing cereal crops like wheat and barley. Their new research highlights an important biological clue that could help reduce agriculture’s heavy reliance on artificial nitrogen fertilizer. Plants require nitrogen to grow, and most […] The post Genetic Mutation Could Pave the Way for Self-Fertilizing Cereal Crops and a Revolution in Agriculture appeared first on Good News Network.

What Preppers Need to Know About Asthma

By the author of Prepper’s Natural Medicine and Prepping for a Pandemic Did you ever think about the fact that pharmacies are just as vulnerable as grocery stores during SHTF? Images of empty grocery store shelves in Venezuela and Puerto Rico are stark reminders of why we store extra food. But, if you have an illness that requires medication, such as asthma, it’s time to get prepped. In an already bad situation, can you imagine the helplessness you’d feel if your child or other loved one was having an asthma attack and you weren’t prepared to treat them? According to the CDC, 1 in 12 people suffer from asthma and that number is increasing every year. So, chances are, you or someone you care about needs to be prepared for dealing with asthma during an emergency. You may not always be able to rely on rescue inhalers. It’s time to get some backups – and then backups for your backups. Asthma Overview Asthma is a condition that makes breathing difficult. The airways swell, constrict, and can fill with mucus. Sometimes asthma manifests as wheezing, coughing, and tightness in the chest. Other times, people with asthma can have a full-blown asthma attack. These attacks can range from minor to life-threatening. We don’t know what causes asthma. We do know that there are some common triggers. According to the Mayo Clinic, asthma commonly flares up under the following situations: Exercise-Induced Asthma (worse when the air is cold and/or dry) Occupational Asthma (triggered by exposure to various chemicals) Allergy-Induced Asthma (triggered by airborne irritants, like pet dander, pollen, mold, etc.) While asthma cannot be cured, symptoms can be managed. This is commonly done with medications. Rescue inhalers provide immediate, short-term relief for acute symptoms. Corticosteroids help reduce the frequency of asthma symptoms. Allergy medication may also help prevent triggering asthma symptoms. Are Pharmacies Really At Risk? Pharmacies are just as vulnerable as grocery stores and every other business that relies on frequent shipments for inventory. Pharmacies rely on the same “just in time” inventory systems that grocery stores do. Any form of disruption could leave a drug store without resupply. The NotPetya ransomware attack back in 2918 disrupted international shipping giant Maersk’s operations for two weeks. A trucker strike would bring the US to a screeching halt. How to Prep for Asthma in a Crisis From working with asthmatics in my herbal practice, as well as helping an asthmatic friend get better prepped for long-term emergencies, I have a number of tips to pass along. Here are some easy, actionable steps you can take to manage asthma symptoms in an SHTF situation. Conventional Options Order your meds ahead. Many pharmacies will give people an option of buying 2-3 months worth of medication in advance when ordering online. Ask your doctor for an extra script. Not all doctors will do this, and not all health insurance plans will pay for this. But, some doctors will write you an extra prescription to have on hand for emergencies, so it never hurts to ask. Store OTC asthma medicine. Primatene Mist is no longer available because it contained CFCs. (Chlorofluorocarbons have been banned since 1996 because they destroy the ozone layer.) However, non-prescription medicine for use with a nebulizer is available free of CFCs. These aren’t a perfect solution. If you use too much, it can make you lightheaded and cause your heart to race. But, they can be an important part of your emergency SHTF healthcare preps. Basic, at-home diagnostic equipment. Two relatively inexpensive items to have on hand are a pulse oximeter to measure the amount of oxygen in the blood, and a peak flow meter which will measure how well the air is moving out of your lungs. Protect your equipment against EMPs. Ever since North Korea launched its latest ICBM, concern over EMP attack has been through the roof. Simple blackout bags can protect your healthcare equipment. You will still need a power source to run the nebulizer, so plan for that too. Stock up on OTC allergy medicines. If allergies trigger your asthma attacks, this is a no-brainer. Over-the-counter allergy medicines are readily available now. You can get these at your local drug, grocery, and even wholesale stores. Herbal and Natural Remedies Stock up on coffee. The caffeine in a hot cup of coffee can often stop an asthma attack if you catch it early. Make sure to have an off-grid way to make coffee, such as with an emergency stove for heat and a French press for brewing. Coffee also helps with constriction in cases of bronchitis. Grow Codonopsis pilosa. Grow codonopsis, aka dang shen, in your medicinal herb garden. The root is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) remedy for asthma. Codonopsis is traditionally used to reduce the frequency of asthmatic symptoms, as opposed to acute asthma attacks. Codonopsis isn’t something you typically find at your local nursery, but you can get the seeds from Strictly Medicinal Seeds. Have a cup of Mormon Tea. Mormon Tea is made from any of several types of ephedra species, such as Ephedra nevadensis and Ephedra sinica. The FDA took ephedra off the market because of serious reactions when abused as a weight loss supplement. Even though the amounts used are not naturally found in a cup of tea, the FDA banned all use of ephedra in commercially prepared products. You can, however, grow it and wildcraft it. Lobelia tincture. One of the most helpful herbs for the lungs is lobelia. Lobelia is an herbal antispasmodic and expectorant. It is a specific for asthma in Traditional Western Herbalism.  Lobelia has tall stalks of lovely blue flowers. Make sure to prepare lobelia as a tincture, and not as a tea. When taken in tea form, lobelia is emetic, and emetic herbs can make a person nauseous enough to vomit. Making a tincture eliminates this effect. I have seen good results with 10-15 drops under the tongue every 15 minutes for acute asthma. Mullein smoke. While this might sound counter-intuitive, mullein leaf smoke works wonders to relax bronchospasms. Smoke is the fastest way to bring mullein to the affected tissues. Blend mullein with lobelia and lemon balm for an effective asthma remedy. However, if smoking mullein leaf isn’t going to work for you, you can use it as an herbal steam instead. Grindelia tincture. This is an effective herbal expectorant and is historically known for its use as an antitussive. It is helpful for coughs, bronchitis, and asthma. Use herbal sources of antihistamines. Did you know that some herbs are sources of antihistamines? Herbs like nettle and ginkgo both contain antihistamines. If allergies trigger your asthma, a hot tea of these herbs may help you weather allergy season. Good People Will Get Pushed to Do Bad Things And when that happens, the last place you want to be is in a drug store, fighting for life or death medication, in the middle of a crisis. Addicts will do anything to get their next fix. Desperate parents will do desperate things to get necessary medication back home to their kids. You don’t want to be anywhere in that volatile mix. Take action to be ready now, and you will thank yourself later. Do you have any special preps you’ve made for people you love who suffer from asthma? Share your ideas in the comments section. AI’s biggest security risk is hiding in plain sight

The White House, federal regulators, and Congress are scrambling to develop a national approach to artificial intelligence. Yet almost no one is examining AI from an ethical or civil-society perspective. Policymakers frame it as an economic or national security issue. Those angles matter. But the deeper question — what it means to live in an AI-dominated world inside a constitutional republic — remains almost entirely unaddressed.AI is already reshaping our political life, our civic discourse, and our education system. One of the clearest windows into this shift is the outsized influence of Wikipedia and Reddit. Large language models like ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini consume a training diet heavy on both sites. AI systems don’t “know” anything in a human sense. They mirror patterns. And the patterns they ingest come from platforms run by anonymous editors, ideological moderators, and unaccountable gatekeepers. No special-interest group today is fighting for Americans who will soon live in a world saturated with AI slop. The Oversight Project examined the underbelly of this problem, beginning with Wikipedia. After noticing what looked like coordinated ideological editing campaigns, we sought to understand who was shaping the platform. What we found was a small, powerful cadre of editors with the authority to dictate what information is permitted. These editors operate anonymously — or so they believed. We identified several of them and, more tellingly, where they were editing from. Some connections were foreign. Others showed activity that aligned with a 9-to-5 workday. It was clearly inorganic. That raised obvious questions: who pays these people, who coordinates them, and whether intelligence services are involved. The most aggressive coordination appeared on politically sensitive topics, especially anything involving Israel or the Arab world. Automated tools tracked and reverted edits across thousands of pages to enforce a narrative. When Wikipedia realized we were mapping these networks, it panicked. To protect anonymity, the platform changed its internal rules to obstruct outside scrutiny. Then it retaliated by downgrading us to “deprecated” status — a ban in all but name. Anything sourced to us became unacceptable on the site.We are sounding the alarm because foreign actors and domestic ideologues understand the power of controlling Wikipedia’s information flow. Our own intelligence agencies almost certainly understand it as well. In a recent interview, Wikipedia co-founder Larry Sanger told me that intelligence services would be negligent if they were not influencing the platform.Sanger also expressed regret about founding Wikipedia with Jimmy Wales, noting that like so many other institutions, it has been conquered by the ideological left and turned into a political instrument, a shift made even more consequential in the age of AI.RELATED: Almost half of Gen Z wants AI to run the government. You should be terrified. Man_Half-tube via iStock/Getty ImagesThis is where the danger becomes unmistakable. Most people treat Wikipedia and Reddit cautiously when browsing the internet, aware of the bias. AI does not. When you ask an AI system a question, it generates polished, authoritative-sounding answers built from those same sources — stripped of context, caveats, or transparency. What appears neutral is often laundered opinion. This information-laundering must become part of the national conversation about AI. Some policymakers seem to understand the stakes. The Senate Commerce Committee has sent oversight letters and plans a hearing. The House Oversight Committee has signaled similar interest. Even Ed Martin, former U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia, has demanded information from Wikipedia. But the truth is blunt. No special-interest group today is fighting for Americans who will soon live in a world saturated with AI slop. There is plenty of lobbying in Washington for everything except preserving an honest information ecosystem. Without intervention, public knowledge will be shaped by opaque networks of foreign actors, ideological activists, and machine-driven amplification on a massive scale.Policymakers must recognize what is at stake and act before the architecture of public knowledge is fully captured. The future of AI — and the future of democratic self-government — depends on it.
