Is Britain About to Legalize Abortion Until Birth?

Britain soon could pass the most extreme abortion law Europe has ever seen. Members of Parliament have proposed amendments that would legalize abortion up until the moment of birth. The amendments could also allow for sex-selective abortions and would take away the ability to prosecute abusers who harm unborn children, according to the Society for the Protection of Unborn Children, a pro-life advocacy group in the U.K.  According to The Telegraph, Britain’s current law allows for abortion up until a pregnancy is 24 weeks along, with certain limited exceptions after that. One proposal would amend the law so that women who end their own pregnancies at any time during the pregnancy, including after the 24 weeks, could not be prosecuted. Another proposal would decriminalize late-term abortions for those who perform them outside of the limited exceptions. The proposed amendments are “the greatest threat to unborn children and their mothers since the Abortion Act,” according to the Society for the Protection of Unborn Children, as reported by the BBC. The Abortion Act of 1967 refers to the U.K. law that legalized abortion up to 24 weeks. “This is a very, very left-wing Labor [Party] government in the U.K.,” said Nile Gardiner, director of The Heritage Foundation’s Margaret Thatcher Center for Freedom. “In fact, it’s the most far-left-wing administration in British history, and it is an extreme socialist government, and so, it’s perhaps not surprising that that a left-wing government like this is putting forward this kind of extreme legislation … this would really be state-sanctioned murder.” He continued: “These kinds of policies are incredibly, incredibly dangerous, and it would lead to the sort of situation that you have in China today, really, as a result of these extreme abortion policies. I think that would be the inevitable result of this—the killing of a large number of babies. No society in the world should be condoning these kinds of policies, but there is no limit to the cruelty and heartlessness and inhumanity of socialism.” According to a survey by YouGov, 70% of members of Parliament believe that abortions beyond the 24-week restriction should not be criminalized while only 1% of British people support abortion up until the moment of birth, as reported by The Telegraph. When asked how so many in Parliament could consider legislation that goes against the majority of the British people, Gardiner said, “The Labor government has a big majority, and they can act in a dictatorial fashion here without any regard for public opinion because they have such a large parliamentary majority. Until they are voted out … they can basically pass whatever legislation they like.” Votes on the amendments in the House of Commons are scheduled for next week, but some are urging taking more time to consider such sweeping changes. “Abortion law is incredibly complex. It governs 250,000 women’s health care every single year. Because of that, it is essential that any huge change to abortion law is properly considered,” Rachel Clarke, head of advocacy at the British Pregnancy Advisory Service, told The Telegraph. “That means involvement with providers, medical bodies, regulators, and proper debate time in Parliament.” “Any member of Parliament who has a conscience and who believes in the sanctity of human life should fight against this monstrous barbarism,” Gardiner said. Disney and NBCUniversal Sue Midjourney Over AI-Generated Characters

If you're tired of censorship and dystopian threats against civil liberties, subscribe to Reclaim The Net. Two of Hollywood’s biggest entertainment powerhouses, Disney and NBCUniversal, have jointly filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against Midjourney, accusing the AI firm of misappropriating some of their most valuable intellectual property. The complaint, submitted in Los Angeles federal court on Wednesday, claims the San Francisco-based company exploited artificial intelligence to mass-produce unauthorized versions of iconic characters from their film libraries. We obtained a copy of the lawsuit for you here. The studios allege that Midjourney’s image-generation platform has churned out countless visual imitations of characters like Darth Vader, Elsa, the Minions, and others, with no permission or licensing involved. By turning simple user prompts into vivid renderings, the service has, according to the lawsuit, crossed a clear legal line. In a statement accompanying the filing, Horacio Gutierrez, Disney’s chief legal officer, said, “We are bullish on the promise of AI technology and optimistic about how it can be used responsibly as a tool to further human creativity, but piracy is piracy, and the fact that it’s done by an AI company does not make it any less infringing.” NBCUniversal’s legal chief, Kim Harris, emphasized that the legal action is aimed at defending the creative labor and substantial financial investments behind the studio’s entertainment catalog. “We’re suing to protect the hard work of all the artists whose work entertains and inspires us and the significant investment we make in our content,” she said. The Motion Picture Association voiced its support, with Chairman Charles Rivkin declaring that “strong copyright protection is the backbone of our industry.” He advocated for regulations that preserve ownership rights while encouraging responsible AI innovation. Midjourney, founded by David Holz in 2021, operates on a subscription model that allows users to generate images by submitting text-based prompts. The studios claim the company relied heavily on their copyrighted material when training its AI, all without permission. They argue that despite being notified of the infringement, Midjourney took no action to prevent further unauthorized use and instead launched improved versions of its tool, enhancing its ability to produce high-quality imitations of well-known characters. Specific examples cited in the lawsuit include AI-generated imagery featuring characters such as Yoda, Iron Man, Buzz Lightyear, Bart Simpson, Shrek, Toothless from How to Train Your Dragon, and Po from Kung Fu Panda. The studios contend that these recreations are direct derivatives of their intellectual property, created and distributed without any investment or creative input from Midjourney. The plaintiffs, representing various Disney and Universal subsidiaries, are seeking an injunction that would stop the company from offering its current services unless protective measures are implemented. They are also asking the court to award damages, though the filing does not specify an amount. “By helping itself to plaintiffs’ copyrighted works, and then distributing images (and soon videos) that blatantly incorporate and copy Disney’s and Universal’s famous characters — without investing a penny in their creation — Midjourney is the quintessential copyright free-rider and a bottomless pit of plagiarism,” the complaint reads, calling the company’s actions “calculated and willful.” If you're tired of censorship and dystopian threats against civil liberties, subscribe to Reclaim The Net. Tucker Carlson to Arrested Big Tech Founder: Your Platform Is ‘Massive Threat to Governments’

France reportedly arrested a Big Tech CEO, took his phone, detained him for days and continues to restrict his travel. Here’s what he told independent journalist Tucker Carlson about the European Union’s crackdown on online speech. Telegram founder and CEO Pavel Durov criticized the EU’s assault on free speech during an interview with Carlson that aired on June 9. Durov, who spent four days in detainment and can only leave France with permission during an investigation, warned that all Big Tech platforms operating in the EU are at the mercy of every tyrannical government in the bloc.   [Story Continues on MRC Free Speech America]

Google AI Marks Flag Day with ‘Outrageous’ Take on American Flag

O say, can you see… that the American flag is now “controversial” because it’s tied to conservatives? That’s the latest take from Gemini, Google’s notoriously anti-American AI chatbot. Just days before Flag Day, a holiday to commemorate the adoption of the American flag, Gemini slandered the Stars and Stripes in a response to MRC Free Speech America, which asked whether the flag is considered controversial. The results, sadly, were as predictable as they were outrageous. “Yes, the American flag can be considered controversial, and its symbolism is often debated,” Gemini responded on June 6. “While it is widely seen as a symbol of unity, freedom, and national pride, it also carries different, sometimes conflicting, meanings for various groups of people.” [Story Continues on MRC Free Speech America]

Man caught on video passing out face shields to rioters has been arrested, feds say

Federal prosecutors announced the arrest of a man charged with conspiracy to commit civil disorders after he was allegedly caught on video passing out riot gear to protesters in Los Angeles.Protests against deportation operations from Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents erupted into violence and vandalism that lasted several days, beginning Friday. One widely circulated video showed a man handing face shields from a carton in a truck to protesters.'We want to understand who these people are and where this organization's coming from.' Many suggested that the video was evidence that the violent protest had been orchestrated and funded by nefarious organizations. On Thursday, U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli announced the arrest of Alejandro Theodoro Orellana by the FBI during a sting operation at his home."We have made it a huge priority to try to identify, locate, and arrest those who are involved in organizing, supporting, funding, or facilitating these riots," he said to Fox News."It appears they're well-orchestrated, and coordinated and well-funded," he added, "so we want to understand who these people are and where this organization's coming from, and today was one of those first arrests, the key arrests that we did."Essayli posted video of the man passing out the masks from the back of a black pickup truck.RELATED: LA schools to set up police safety perimeters to keep ICE agents away from students and their families A person who claimed to know Orellana told KTLA-TV that he was not known to be associated with criminal activity.“No, nothing of the sort. Nothing at all," said the resident. "No one in this block have I heard any, you know, bad news from or any gossip."The Trump administration responded to the rioting against federal operations by ordering National Guard troops as well as U.S. Marines to provide security for ICE officials.Democrats have accused President Donald Trump of acting as a totalitarian and trying to militarize cities. An emergency request from California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) to block the military orders was denied by a judge, but Newsom has pressed on to accuse the president of acting contrary to the U.S. Constitution.Like Blaze News? Hillsdale College source: Suspect in arson at school may be serial arsonist released after recent fire at DC Catholic church

Business owners in Washington, D.C., reportedly are frustrated at law enforcement after a suspect in several arson incidents was released without charges. One of the arson incidents damaged the Kirby Center of Hillsdale College, and a source at the school told Blaze News that law enforcement said the fire might be related to an alleged serial arsonist who'd been released after a recent, separate incident.'Arsonists are inherently dangerous individuals. If they're willing to commit property damage, then ostensibly they're willing to harm people.'D.C. Fire and EMS Chief John Donnelly told WRC-TV that dozens of fires have been reported in the past four months in the area."What we know is since the end of March, we've been investigating about 35 fires that look like they're related to somebody that is serial lighting fires," he added to the station.A recent fire behind St. Joseph's Catholic Church on Second Street NE singed the brick of the building and significantly damaged a vehicle, Donnelly noted to WRC.Police arrested Mohammad Al-Rashidi, 50, in May after firefighters said they witnessed him lighting a trash can on fire, the station said. Although Al-Rashidi spent a night in jail, Donnelly told WRC that prosecutors didn't believe they could get a conviction, so destruction of property charges were dropped.Al-Rashidi, who is believed to be homeless, was released, the station said. But officials believe he continued lighting fires in the area, and they allegedly are now looking to detain him. Multiple sources familiar with the investigation told WRC a judge signed a new arrest warrant for Al-Rashidi in connection with the church fire.In fact, investigators told the station that Al-Rashidi is a suspect in four separate fires set Wednesday morning. One of those fires damaged construction materials at Hillsdale College's Kirby Center. Blaze News spoke to a Hillsdale source who said fire officials told him they were looking for a serial arsonist in the case. The source also said officials described the man as homeless."It's an annoyance," the Hillsdale source told Blaze News, describing the aftermath as "a mess."James McCrery, a business owner in the area, told Blaze News he's concerned law enforcement officials aren't taking the incidents seriously enough, after he heard the suspect had been previously released without charges."I've been working hard to express concern to law enforcement," McCrery told Blaze News. "Arsonists are inherently dangerous individuals. If they're willing to commit property damage, then ostensibly they're willing to harm people."He added that releasing the suspect might not have been the "appropriate response" to the incidents — and told Blaze News he's spoken to other business owners who feel similarly.RELATED: Atlanta pastor's husband finds her stabbed to death and lit on fire. Police arrested a felon she had been mentoring. Chief Donnelly shared McCrery's concerns."My fear ... these fires are happening in the middle of the night," Donnelly told WRC. "They're happening in areas where they could grow. My fear is that one's going to extend to a house, and somebody's going to get hurt or lose their property. That's what our fear is, absolutely. This is a big problem."However, D.C. Council member Charles Allen said in a statement to the station that officials are taking the incident seriously.“There have been dozens of suspicious fires around Capitol Hill lately — ranging from small items burned on sidewalks to trash cans lit on fire in alleys to a detached garage burned down behind a home," he noted to WRC. "Fortunately, no one has been hurt so far, but I’m afraid it’s only a matter of time if the person responsible isn’t stopped soon. [Metropolitan Police] and [the Fire and EMS Department] are on the lookout and taking these suspicious fires seriously and treating them with the same urgency we all feel in the community.”Security video of a man lighting a fire in a trash can be viewed on WRC's YouTube video.
