Two years before a shooter opened fire on students attending daily mass in Minneapolis, the leaders of independent and Catholic schools in Minnesota begged Democrat Governor Tim Walz for help securing their schools, according to a 2023 letter reviewed by The Daily Wire. The funding was never authorized. In a letter dated April 14, 2023 that specifically addressed “school safety in nonpublic schools,” Tim Benz, the president of MINNDEPENDENT and Jason Adkins, the executive director of the Minnesota Catholic Conference, stressed an “urgent and critical need in Minnesota to make sure our schools are secure and safe” in light of “recent, and continuing attacks, on our schools in this country and in our state.” The letter says there are about 72,000 students in Independent, Catholic, Jewish, Christian and Muslim nonpublic schools within the state of Minnesota. It came just weeks after the shooting at a Christian school in Tennessee, which was also carried out by a transgender-identifying individual in their twenties. Adkins told The Daily Wire on Wednesday that no additional security was ever funded, even though the money existed. … Walz in 2023 was instead working to protect transgenders. As Michigan lawmakers debate next year’s budget, the Democratic lieutenant governor — who’s running for governor in 2026 — floated an idea to hit back at some of the Trump administration’s spending cuts and get more money into the state government’s coffers: raise taxes on the wealthiest Trump supporters. In a video obtained by The Daily Wire, Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist told a group of Democrats earlier this month that the Trump administration has “attacked our people” by cutting funding to universities and “attacking those of us who are getting our health care from Medicaid.” Gilchrist made the remarks during a video call with the Kent County, Michigan, Democratic Party on August 13 as he gears up for a competitive Democratic primary in the 2026 Michigan governor’s race. “We’re going to fight back and say, ‘Hell no, we’re not going to accept that,'” Gilchrist added. “And frankly, it pisses me off that we don’t have enough money in Michigan to be able to afford to backfill this $1.1 billion hole we’ve blown in the budget. I know how we could get a little bit more of that money — if we actually tax the wealthiest mega MAGA rich people in this state … if we actually went after the biggest companies that got a tax cut from [former Republican Governor] Rick Snyder and the Republicans.” In a video I’ve obtained for @realDailyWire, Michigan Lt. Gilchrist’s suggestion to hit wealthy Trump supporters with higher taxes is also a questionable political tactic, given that Michigan is a swing state that President Trump won in both 2016 and 2024. The lieutenant governor’s comments, however, played well with the Democratic base, as the audience broke out into applause and cheers when Gilchrist suggested taxing wealthy Trump supporters. In the video, Gilchrist calls into the meeting from an airport in New York City despite the Kent County Democratic Party saying that the “Social Hour” would be “hosted” by the lieutenant governor. Gilchrist’s campaign did not respond to a request to comment. The $1.1 billion figure referenced by Gilchrist refers to a report released last month by the Citizens Research Council of Michigan, which claims that because of Trump’s “Big, Beautiful Bill,” the state will have to come up with a massive chunk of money to make up for Trump’s cuts to Medicaid and SNAP food benefits, according to Bridge Michigan. The report stated that Michigan “will need to cut around $1.1 billion in General Fund/General Purpose appropriations from the FY2026 Executive Budget proposal.” Republican state Rep. Ann Bollin, however, told The Daily Wire that the House has put forward a plan that incorporates all of the federal guidelines under the “Big, Beautiful Bill,” such as the work requirements for Medicaid and SNAP, without putting the state in a financial hole. “We have managed to build a budget that takes into account what those federal requirements are,” Bollin said. “Those federal requirements are not extensive. I mean, they are work requirements. That is not a high threshold.” “We’re implementing the research and development tax credit, we’re incorporating the $250 million that the feds are giving us for rural hospitals. We are offering relief to individuals with the elimination of taxes on tips, overtime, and social security,” Bollin continued. She added that it’s good for the Trump administration to implement work requirements for programs like SNAP, saying that “Michigan has to address its very high SNAP error rate,” and root out fraud. “I think we’re going to find that this budget is going to deliver on protecting the most vulnerable and keeping within some financial constraints, but also that it’s fiscally sustainable for us as a state,” Bollin said. The Michigan legislature is currently negotiating a budget for fiscal year 2026, which begins on October 1. Lawmakers have already passed the July 1 statutory deadline to present a budget plan to the governor, as the Democrat-controlled state Senate and Republican-controlled state House work to get something passed, The Detroit Free Press reported. While Gilchrist is suggesting raising taxes on Michigan residents, Republicans have proposed slashing state government spending. On Tuesday, Michigan House Republicans, led by Republican Speaker Matt Hall, unveiled a $78.5 billion budget proposal that would cut state government jobs and spending, while still putting forward a $3 billion plan for fixing the roads, an issue that Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer said must be included in any budget proposal. Michigan currently has a flat 4.25% income tax for all residents and a 6% corporate income tax, with a 1.8% alternative rate for small businesses. Last year, under Democratic leadership, the income tax increased from 4.05% to 4.25%. The Gilchrist campaign has not responded to a Daily Wire inquiry asking how much Gilchrist wants to raise taxes on Michigan’s wealthiest Trump supporters.

WASHINGTON—President Donald Trump’s Labor Department is welcoming back faith-based organizations into its federal grant process, The Daily Wire can first report, reversing a Biden-era move that diminished the role of faith in favor of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in the Labor Department. Under the Biden administration, the Labor Department has significantly reduced the role of its faith office by implementing DEI policies, the Daily Wire has learned. Now, the Trump Labor Department is reinvigorating the faith office to make clear that prayer and work do not have to be mutually exclusive in American society, particularly when faith organizations can help Americans acquire the needed skills to provide for their families. Beginning immediately, the DOL shared with The Daily Wire that every Labor Department discretionary grant will explicitly encourage faith-based organizations to apply for funding. The DEI initiatives introduced by Biden across the Labor Department significantly diminished the role of faith-based organizations, DOL officials explained to The Daily Wire. Now that Trump is back in command, the Labor Department has restored the Center for Faith back to its intended purpose, which is led by a director, a deputy director, and a senior advisor under the leadership of Chavez-DeRemer (who also sits on Trump’s “Task Force To Eradicate Anti-Christian Bias”). The Center for Faith will work with the White House Faith Office as well as other federal faith agencies to make sure that religious freedom is promoted in the workplace, that resources are available to support First Amendment religious liberty rights for both employees and employers, and to “level the playing field in the federal grant process” for faith organizations.

Joe Biden didn’t just create a border crisis — he deliberately rigged the system in which millions of illegal aliens are now being counted among American citizens in the U.S. Census.  America faces a constitutional crisis unlike any in modern times. To understand the magnitude of the situation we are in, consider the enormity of what’s at stake. For over two centuries, America’s decennial census has served as the constitutional foundation for fair representation in Congress, the accurate distribution of federal resources, and the determination of our President through the Electoral College. The 2020 census shattered that tradition with brazen manipulation, inaccurate data, and a refusal to ensure illegal immigrants aren’t counted when determining each state’s number of Congressional seats. Meaning states that harbored illegal immigrants and ignored federal law shortchanged law-abiding states. That’s why I am introducing the COUNT Act to codify Executive Order 13880 into law, which ensures the U.S. Census Bureau conducts accurate census counts based on citizenship and prohibits the bureau from manipulating data. The need for this legislation has never been greater. When Biden took office, he immediately moved to ensure that future censuses would perpetuate these problems, dismantling Trump’s efforts to collect citizenship data. This was a blatant attempt to orchestrate the most sophisticated attack on future census integrity since Reconstruction. The same regime that demolished border security and flooded America with millions of illegal immigrants then systematically destroyed the tools needed to exclude them from congressional representation. They killed the citizenship data collection project and deployed “differential privacy,” a euphemism for data manipulation, to scramble future census numbers.  This was a calculated preparation for electoral manipulation disguised as statistical innovation. The Democrats figured out the perfect con: transform illegal immigration into political power while American citizens pay the price. Every illegal immigrant counted toward congressional representation dilutes the voice of our own American citizens. States that enforce immigration law lose representation to sanctuary states that harbor criminals. The message couldn’t be clearer: break America’s laws, gain political power; follow America’s laws, lose your voice. Consider this: a district in California packed with illegal immigrants wields the same congressional power as a district of law-abiding citizens in Kansas. The result is that American citizens’ votes carry different weights depending on how many lawbreakers their state harbors. This is taxation without representation in reverse — representation without citizenship. The political ramifications are staggering and immediate. In 2022, the Census Bureau was finally forced to acknowledge the extent of this scandal: Republican states lost at least three congressional seats while Democratic strongholds gained seats they didn’t deserve. Florida should have gained two additional seats. Texas was shortchanged by at least one seat. Meanwhile, states like New York and California — which openly defy federal immigration laws — were rewarded with extra representation. This isn’t just about numbers; it’s about raw political power redistributed through census inaccuracies. The Electoral College implications alone should terrify every American who believes in a legitimate election process. States that gained unearned congressional seats also gained unearned electoral votes, potentially swinging presidential elections for decades. The 2020 census problems didn’t just distort one count — they skewed the next decade of American politics. Every close congressional race, every tight Electoral College count, every razor-thin Senate battle now carries the taint of inaccurate representation built into the system. Federal funding follows the same corrupted formula, meaning billions in taxpayer dollars flow to sanctuary states and cities based on their inflated illegal populations. Law-abiding states subsidize the very lawlessness that steals their political representation. It’s the perfect Democrat scheme: reward illegal immigration with congressional seats, electoral votes, and federal cash, while punishing states that enforce American law. The COUNT Act (Citizen Only Updated National Tally Act) will create a block-level citizenship database, implementing a mandate that will require the Census Bureau to collect legitimate, verifiable citizenship data. This ensures, for the first time, that the bureau has the necessary information to ensure that only American citizens are counted in future censuses for the purpose of determining access to federal grant money and congressional apportionment. And while President Trump’s executive order in his first term was a critical step to ensure an accurate and legitimate decennial census, codification through my legislation is essential to prevent the census from being weaponized against Republicans in the future. When sanctuary states inflate their counts through illegal residents, they don’t just steal congressional seats — they steal federal education dollars, healthcare funding, and infrastructure investments that should flow to states with actual American citizens. WASHINGTON —Over the holiday weekend, gas prices are projected to hit their lowest levels since Labor Day 2020, according to GasBuddy’s annual Labor Day price forecast. Labor Day gas prices averaged $2.22 a gallon in 2020, $3.16 in 2021, $3.79 in 2022, $3.77 in 2023, and $3.29 in 2024. And this weekend, according to GasBuddy, they’re projected to be at $3.15 a gallon. “Labor Day marks the unofficial end of summer, and when it comes to gas prices, it’s been the cheapest summer to hit the road since the pandemic, a trend that will likely continue with the potential for the national average to fall below $3 per gallon this fall,” explained Patrick De Haan, who heads petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. “We’ve seen a remarkably affordable summer to hit the road with incomes up and gas prices down, but there are some challenges that remain: hurricane season and uncertainty over trade, tariffs, and Russia’s war on Ukraine,” he added. “However, I remain optimistic that as cooler weather invades, gas prices too will seasonally cool off.” The White House is celebrating the news, noting that it fulfills President Donald Trump’s promise to bring down the rising costs of living for many Americans. “From Memorial Day to Labor Day, Americans have been saving significant money at the pump all summer long with the cheapest gas prices in 5 years,” White House spokeswoman Taylor Rogers told The Daily Wire. “President Trump promised to unleash American energy and make everyday life more affordable for families, and he delivered,” she added. Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara said Thursday that the FBI was assisting local law enforcement in reviewing the writings of the transgender-identifying male shooter who opened fire at Annunciation Catholic School during a school Mass held at the church building on Wednesday.  O’Hara gave the update during an interview on NBC’s “Today” show, where he discussed the latest development in the investigation into the attack that left two children dead and 17 others injured. The gunman has been identified as “Robin Westman,” a 23-year-old man who identified as a woman and previously went by Robert. Police say that Westman killed himself after he shot through the windows of the Annunciation Church, where students were attending a morning Mass. O’Hara said that police were still investigating Westman and examining what he had left behind.  “We recovered literally hundreds of pieces of evidence in total that we have to go through. There is some additional writings, I would say, that the FBI is helping us go through,” O’Hara said.  “Everything that we have seen so far is really a classic pathway to an active shooter,” he added. “We have seen a whole lot of hate against a whole variety of people and what we have seen so far, but nothing specific to point to as the motive for targeting this church and this particular incident.” FBI Director Kash Patel announced Wednesday that the FBI was investigating the shooting as domestic terrorism and a hate crime against Catholics. In previously reported writings, Westman discussed assassinating President Donald Trump, fantasized about killing children, expressed hatred toward Jewish people, and ranted about his transgender identity. “The focus remains trying to go through everything that we possibly can, following all of the evidence to its logical conclusion to try and determine what potential motive there actually is for this shooting,” O’Hara said, saying police would try to provide answers as quickly as possible.  He said that police would likely apply for additional electronic warrants to search through the shooter’s devices. O’Hara also said that they believed the gunman used to be a member of the church and attend the school there. It was previously reported that Westman’s mother worked at the school.  All of those injured during the attack are expected to survive, though some are still in critical condition, O’Hara said. He also praised the church for having security guidelines that he said helped save lives.  “Also thankfully, due to the procedures that the school had in place, that the church had in place, after the Mass had begun, the doors to the church were locked. So this coward had to fire from outside of the church, through the church windows and into the church. And we believe him not being able to get into the church likely saved countless lives,” O’Hara also said.  During the Biden administration, the FBI also aided in the investigation into the March 2023 attack on The Covenant School in Nashville by a transgender-identifying female. During that investigation, the FBI suppressed writings that the attacker left behind, arguing that they would lead to conspiracy theories.
