A Maryland senator welcomed “the Maryland dad” back to his state Sunday after the illegal immigrant was released from criminal custody in Tennessee and returned to Maryland Friday. Sen. Chris Van Hollen, D-Md., happily received Kilmar Abrego Garcia back to his state after what he called “a long and torturous nightmare.” Abrego Garcia, a citizen of El Salvador who illegally entered the U.S. in March 2012, was deported earlier this year and imprisoned in El Salvador before being brought back to the U.S. to face charges including human smuggling. Abrego Garcia is affiliated the MS-13 gang and has a history of domestic violence. His wife, Jennifer Vasquez Sura, filed domestic violence allegations against him in May 2021. U.S. Magistrate Judge Barbara Holmes is ordering Abrego Garcia to have “access to attorneys” to “prepare for trial” if Immigration and Customs Enforcement takes him into custody.  ICE then told Abrego Garcia’s lawyers he might be deported to Uganda in “no less than 72 hours.” Additionally, ICE said Abrego Garcia must report to any ICE agent at the Baltimore office Monday. In the midst of a discussion on crime in Washington, D.C., host Jon Karl could not bring himself to recognize that Democrats are on the wrong side of an 80-20 issue (crime), instead shifting blame to a familiar boogeyman. Watch as Karl blames President Donald Trump for the left’s ongoing meltdown over the ongoing federal takeover in the nation’s capital: RAMESH PONNURU: There is an element of this with Trump setting a trap for Democrats, but Democrats are walking into the trap. RACHEL BADE: Yeah. PONNURU: When Democrats argue, “oh, actually statistically, crime is a little bit down since 2023.” And they don't acknowledge that crime has always been high. JON KARL: But Trump draws them in by saying things that just aren't true. I mean, Trump is not telling the truth about the- about the crime stats. PONNURU: He -- look -- BADE: Crime stats might be down, but there is still -- (CROSSTALK) PONNURU: There are many cases in which Trump lies even more than -- (CROSSTALK) KARL: No question. But he says, “this is the worst ever”, and -- PONNURU: But the way Democrats handle it also matters. And they are- they are making themselves look more out of touch with the way they're responding to it. BADE: Yeah. You also just have to open your eyes. I mean, look, D.C. looks a lot different than it used to. I mean, I used to live here. I moved because my house got robbed, my car got stolen, and this was before it got bad. So, I mean, there's that element of- KARL: OK. So -- so, and -- and by the way, I'm old enough to have been here in the '90s when it was actually really, really bad. Karl’s first instinct is to blame Trump for the Democrats’ woes- not the fact that they’ve landed yet again on the 20% of another 80-20 issue. “But Trump lies”, as opposed to any acknowledgement of what has been a problem in the nation’s capital for a very long time. It is most notable that Karl swears Trump is lying about the crime rate, but does not acknowledge that there is an ongoing debate about the veracity of the crime data presented by Washington, D.C. In fact, a Metro police commander was recently suspended for manipulating crime data. To this day, the legacy media have not referenced that suspension beyond a brief acknowledgement by Gabe Gutierrez at the NBC Nightly News. The legacy media remain committed to burying the federal law enforcement takeover at the nation’s capital, even as D.C. enjoys a 9-day murder-free streak. Reflexive opposition, even if it means taking the 20 on an 80-20 issue.

Even "Saturday Night Live" aired a skit in which Jesus appeared in the Broncos' locker room, making fun of the saying that “Jesus was helping Tebow win games.”Major media outlets were silent, and any defense of Tebow typically was met with an eye-rolling allegation of "not being able to take a joke."Tebow effect In the years after Tebow, there was a quiet uncertainty as to how Christian athletes would be received for openly expressing their faith.But nearly 15 years after he became ESPN’s favorite joke, it's now clear that Tebow blazed a trail for a new generation of expressive Christian athletes. Earlier this month, for example, Justin Fields, the new quarterback for the New York Jets, said that he is “low-key addicted to getting into [his] Bible.” New England Patriots running back TreVeyon Henderson said that “God calls me to work as heartily as for Him, not to please men.” And several players for the Arizona State Sun Devils football team were recently baptized and started attending a team Bible study together, openly expressing their faith in interviews.These are just a few of the countless examples of football players following in Tebow's footsteps, publicly embracing their Christian faith. Fortunately, football players aren't the only athletes to publicly embrace their Christian faith.Sports are a reflection of God’s gifts, built through the dedication and reverence encouraged through the Bible.The Savannah Bananas, an exhibition baseball team, have become a cultural phenomenon as they continuously sell out MLB ballparks across the country. And as the team’s popularity rapidly expands, players have never shied away from their Christian faith.Players paint crosses on their cheeks and write Bible verses on their bats and helmets, and many members are actively involved in a team-wide Bible study. Their Christian faith has encouraged them to create a family-friendly experience, where children aren’t exposed to unsavory content for mature audiences. This year, the Texas Rangers stood up to MLB when they decided to be the only team not hosting a Pride night. Although they are only one team among dozens, this bold act represents a shift away from liberal, anti-Christian messaging.Christian vindicationSports have always been about excellence and virtue, values that don't align with DEI and leftist ideologies.
