Mayhem Rocks Mexico After Most-Wanted Cartel Boss Is Killed

The Mexican government said it killed the nation's most wanted cartel boss on Sunday, setting off a wave of fires and violence across the country as cartel operatives sought to exact revenge in an unsettling show of force. Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, known as "El Mencho," was the longtime leader of one of Mexico's most powerful cartels, the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, and was widely regarded as one of the country's most violent criminal figures. He presided over a criminal enterprise that has expanded rapidly over the past decade, producing and selling drugs, extorting local businesses and terrorizing communities across the country.

Cartel henchmen unleash violence after top drug lord killed in Mexico

Members of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), one of the most powerful and feared criminal organisations in Mexico, have unleashed a wave of violence across 20 Mexican states. They torched businesses and erected burning blockades in retaliation to the killing of their leader, Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, better known as "El Mencho", who died in custody on Sunday shortly after being captured by Mexican special forces. El Mencho, Mexico's most wanted man, was seriously injured in a firefight between his bodyguards and the military commandos deployed to capture him. He died while the military was transporting him from the town of Tapalpa, in Jalisco state, to the capital, Mexico City.

Major drug lord 'El Mencho' killed in Mexican military operation with US intelligence support

Major Mexican drug lord Nemesio Oseguera, known as "El Mencho," was killed in a military operation Sunday morning, the country's Defense Department announced, marking one of Mexico's most significant blows to organized crime amid pressure from President Donald Trump to intensify the crackdown on drug cartels. The announcement came as government officials warned of clashes in Jalisco state and widespread criminal activity across the country, prompting the U.S. Embassy in Mexico to issue shelter-in-place advisories for multiple states. On Sunday, Mexican troops reportedly conducted operations in Tapalpa, Jalisco, targeting Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, a former police officer who became the elusive leader of the Cartel de Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG), a major supplier of fentanyl to the United States.

America Keeps Winning

When the Supreme Court recently struck down a key portion of President Trump's tariff authority, the usual suspects rushed to declare defeat. Pundits predicted chaos. Globalists smirked. The commentariat announced that "America First" had finally met its constitutional wall. They were wrong. What they witnessed wasn't a collapse. It was a strategy. While others play checkers, President Trump plays 4D chess. Instead of retreating after the Court's decision, Trump pivoted immediately — refining and restructuring his tariff approach through alternative statutory authorities and executive mechanisms. It wasn't reactionary. It was prepared. And it was decisive.

Republicans eye opening for DHS deal this week as Democrats double down

Lawmakers return to Capitol Hill this week facing an uphill climb to fund the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) as Republicans see an opening after President Trump's State of the Union address on Tuesday despite few signs that Democrats are willing to compromise on their demands. Discussions between the two sides have yielded little in recent days, with the White House not issuing a formal counter-offer as of Sunday, after Democrats presented what GOP sources described as a "recycled" proposal last week. However, some lawmakers are hopeful that negotiations can shake loose starting on Wednesday.

New education loan limits favor RFK Jr.'s enemies

Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has made it his Make America Healthy Again mission to challenge the medical establishment. President Donald Trump's signature law, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, could entrench it. Kennedy sees America's medical schools as bastions of groupthink that ignore the root causes of disease. But newly proposed caps on student loans that stem from the law would favor establishment institutions over nontraditional schools aligned with Kennedy's view that Americans are sicker than ever because of what they eat, the chemicals they're exposed to, and how little exercise they get.

U.S. trade partners delay meetings, demand clarity after the Supreme Court guts Trump's tariff power

Nations that negotiated trade deals with President Trump are demanding clarity from the U.S. and scrutinizing their options after the Supreme Court struck down tariffs that formed the backbone of the agreements. Mr. Trump and his team said the deals remain in full effect, and they would backfill the tariffs canceled by the justices. Indeed, Mr. Trump swiftly imposed a global tariff of 15% under alternative authorities. Yet the evaporation of Mr. Trump's tariff powers under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act left trading partners wondering what's next, and whether they can secure better terms for their companies. Many countries had struck trade deals in principle but had not fully ratified the pacts, which largely hinged on goodies for the U.S. economy in exchange for a lower tariff rate under IEEPA.
