Schumer Shutdown Presents an Opportunity for SNAP and America’s Spirit of Charity

Democrats are warning that thousands of children may go hungry if Republicans don’t cave in to Democrats’ demands and agree to fund COVID-era Obamacare subsidies for wealthier Americans. Meanwhile, Republicans have filed a bill just to fund the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or SNAP, better known as food stamps, during the shutdown. If the impasse continues, I’d humbly suggest that private charities and policy nonprofits team up to replace the program with a privately-funded alternative that also helps recipients go from dependency to self-sufficiency. Private charities are already starting this process, but conservatives should band together to transform a private effort into a policy-shifting initiative. Charities Respond to SNAP Lapse SNAP funding will lapse on Nov. 1, leaving millions without benefits they have grown to rely on. Catholic Charities USA launched an emergency fundraising effort to supply food to Catholic Charities across the country to meet this need. Meal delivery company DoorDash launched a program to deliver one million meals for free, supporting more than 300 Project DASH food bank partners next month. DoorDash will also waive delivery and service fees for an estimated 300,000 grocery orders for SNAP recipients at various supermarkets, including Giant Foods and Wegmans. These programs will not fully replace SNAP, which cost about $100 billion in fiscal year 2024 and served an average of 41.7 million participants each month, but they represent Americans’ independent spirit of private charity stepping in the breach. My SNAP Proposal I’d suggest a coordinated effort to meet existing needs and provide a roadmap away from government dependency. This tragic government shutdown may present conservatives with an opportunity to develop a policy reform that makes SNAP more effective by incentivizing self-sufficiency. The food stamps program has long fostered dependence on government programs. Back in 2001, Heritage Foundation Senior Research Fellow Robert Rector noted that “the overwhelming majority of Food Stamp spending is received by individuals who have been or will be participants in the program for multiple years or even decades.” The program ballooned during the COVID-19 pandemic, rising as labor force participation declined. SNAP serves 4.3 million more people than it did before the pandemic. Congress can and should amend the program, strengthening work requirements and tightening eligibility, to make sure that the truly needy receive the program and to incentivize self-sufficiency. Yet, if private charities and policy nonprofits team up to meet the unmet needs during this government shutdown, they may find an unprecedented opportunity to replace a bloated federal dependency program with a smart privately-funded roadmap to self-sufficiency. Americans don’t want 41 million people to go hungry, but we also don’t want 41 million people to become perpetually dependent on the federal government for food assistance. The SNAP-merican Dream I dream of an America where every able-bodied potential worker can find fulfilling work and make enough money to not only meet personal and family needs, but have enough left over to generously contribute to meeting the needs of others, as well. Thankfully, I already live in an America where generous people contributed so that nonprofits have $4.1 trillion in revenue. This massive charitable sector should be able to address a problem like food stamps. Our goal should not be to foster dependence on government, but to foster productivity that allows for not just abundance and fulfillment, but generous giving. I’m calling on private charities—and particularly charities like Samaritan’s Purse that are motivated by the Christian gospel, as I am—to step into the breach here. I’m also calling on think tanks like The Heritage Foundation, the Reason Foundation, the American Enterprise Institute, and others to pool resources with these charities and develop a program that will meet the unmet needs of SNAP and go further than the current program already does. My dream is that SNAP disappears, not because Americans are stingy, but because America outgrows the need for it. Let’s develop a privately-funded roadmap away from government assistance and toward a more productive and generous America. Then the Schumer Shutdown won’t just be an ugly footnote in our history, but a moment where Americans proved we don’t need the dole to feed the hungry. Democrats’ Support of Illegal Aliens Also Caused the Previous Shutdown

Democrats’ Support of Illegal Aliens Also Caused the Previous Shutdown

The last federal government shutdown, like the current one, was caused by Democrats’ support of illegal immigrants. That time, they won – until President Trump took an extraordinary measure to thwart their agenda. On January 25, 2019 during his first term, Pres. Trump ended a record-long, 34-day federal government shutdown by signing a continuing resolution (CR) providing funding through February 15 of that year. The shutdown was triggered because Democrats objected to funding the construction of a U.S.-Mexico border wall to stem the tide of illegal immigrants flooding into the country. By filibustering the Trump Administration’s government funding plan because it included $5.7 billion for the border wall, Senate Democrats kept the government closed until Trump relented and agreed to a CR funding the government at current levels without money for the border wall. Democrats had promised to engage in good faith negotiations regarding border security – if Trump would cave and sign the CR devoid of border wall funding. But, the continuing resolution funded the government for only an additional three weeks. When Trump signed the CR to reopen the government on January 25, he vowed that, if Democrats didn’t keep their promise, he’d find another way to legally fund the border wall required to keep America safe: “So let me be very clear: We really have no choice but to build a powerful wall or steel barrier. If we don’t get a fair deal from Congress, the government will either shut down on February 15th, again, or I will use the powers afforded to me under the laws and the Constitution of the United States to address this emergency. We will have great security.” And, on February 15, 2019, the president was true to his word. Instead of shutting down the federal government, Pres. Trump declared a state of emergency at the U.S. southern border, through which he invoked presidential authority to divert funds that had previously been authorized by Congress, mostly for defense spending. Democrats sued and gained an injunction against Trump’s effort to use up to $4 billion of transferred funds to construct the border wall, which the U.S. Supreme Court reversed until the matter was settled in court. Trump was then able to resume border wall construction. But, on Day One of his presidency in 2019, Democrat President Joe Biden signed an executive order ending the emergency status and redirecting funds that had been earmarked for border wall construction. Thus, the legal issue was rendered moot, until Trump reentered the White House this year and declared a new state of emergency. In his second term, Trump is using existing funding halted by the Biden Administration and new funding from the One Big Beautiful Bill signed earlier this year. Today’s federal government shutdown, which began on October 1, is also due to Democrats’ support of illegal immigrants. And, like the 2019 shutdown, it may well set a record for length. This time, however, Democrats are keeping the government closed because they won’t agree to a continuing resolution that would keep funding at the same level they approved in previous CRs. And, while Democrats shut down the government in 2019 because they didn’t want a wall to keep illegal immigrants out of the U.S., this year they’re doing it to gain health care benefits for those illegal immigrants now that they’re here. Instead, Democrats are demanding an additional $1.5 trillion, including nearly $200 billion of funding to provide health care benefits to illegal aliens. To obtain that funding, Democrats seek to reverse healthcare system reforms instituted by the One Big Beautiful Bill (Working Families Tax Cut Act), a White House memo explains: “Democrats’ funding proposal would put American Patients Last by undoing critical WFTCA reforms, thereby spending nearly $200 billion in taxpayer money on healthcare benefits for illegal immigrants and other non-citizens.” In particular, Democrats are demanding an end to eligibility requirements and reinstatement of loopholes through which states obtain federal funds they repurpose to spend on health care for illegal immigrants. Democrats are also refusing to reopen the government until Republicans agree to restore a special Obamacare subsidy for non-citizens that was repealed by the One Big Beautiful Bill, the memo explains: “The WFTCA repeals this ‘special rule’ for immigrants, once again ensuring non-citizens are not afforded a federal benefit not available to American citizens. Overturning this provision would result in $27.3 billion in federal premium subsidies for non-citizens over the next decade.”

STUDY: Comedy Shows Go All In For Mamdani By Attacking Rivals 95% Of The Time

In the Trump Era, the late night comedy shows have been looking for any glimmer of light they can find, and over the course of the first ten months of 2025, they think they have found it in New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani. As the industry puts itself squarely in the middle of Mamdani Mania, it has done its part for the campaign by telling 95 percent of its mayoral election jokes about his rivals. Only three out of 63 jokes were about the socialist front-runner. NewsBusters analysts examined ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live!, CBS’s The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Comedy Central’s The Daily Show, and NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and Late Night with Seth Meyers from January 6 through October 29..  Stephen Colbert led the way with 13 jokes about Eric Adams, 10 about Andrew Cuomo, three about Curtis Sliwa, one about Brad Lander, and one about Mamdani. That is a 27-1 count against Mamdani’s opponents, or 96 percent. Colbert also interviewed Lander and Mamdani on June 23. Colbert's one Mamdani joke also came on June 23 when he quipped, "Mamdani is a democratic socialist who has promised to freeze rent and make buses free citywide. Sorry, no. Sorry, New Yorkers know there's no such thing as a free ride. People come from all over the world to this city just to pay $3 to sit next to that mystery puddle." Seth Meyers was next with 14 jokes about Cuomo, four about Adams, and two about Sliwa for a 20-0 count. The Daily Show’s carousel of hosts combined for an 8-0 tally that included five jokes about Adams and three about Cuomo. Jimmy Fallon, meanwhile, was the mostly balanced one: had two about Mamdani, two about Adams, and one about Cuomo. That comes out as a 3-2 count, or 60 percent. Both of Fallon's Mamdani jokes revolved around his age and both were told on June 25. First, Fallon joked, "Mamdani is 33 years old. After he won, he was like, 'My seven roommates are never gonna believe this!" Next, he added, "33 years old. Wow, that's a good age, 'cause he knows the meaning of both the spending cap and no cap." Finally, there is Jimmy Kimmel, who is the only host in this study to regularly do his show in Los Angeles instead of New York. However, from September 29 to October 3, Kimmel did host five shows from Brooklyn and featured a lot of New York-specific humor, including two jokes about Eric Adams as he dropped out of the race on that first day. All told, there were 28 jokes told about Cuomo, 26 about Adams, five about Sliwa, three about Mamdani, and one about Lander. While the comedy shows largely avoided joking about Mamdani, that does not mean they avoided talking about him. Colbert hailed him as a Democrat who is getting people excited, Meyers claimed Mamdani’s primary victory proved the idea that Democrats need to moderate to win was a “load of crap,” while The Daily Show interviewed the co-chair of the Communist Party USA to insist that Mamdani is not the scary communist Republicans are portraying him to be. While NBC’s Saturday Night Live is not a part of this study, they have followed a similar pattern of picking on Mamdani’s opponents and attacking his critics. Mamdani has also appeared for two interviews during the campaign. One, a June 23 appearance with Colbert, saw Mamdani join with Lander to promote a strategy where, due to New York City’s ranked choice system, their supporters would vote for the other as their second choice. Then, on October 27, Mamdani joined Jon Stewart for a 30-minute puffball interview where Stewart lamented that establishment Democrats have not enthusiastically fallen in line behind Mamdani and compared him to baseball legend Jackie Robinson. “The greatest city in the world” did not nominate its finest. Of the four main general election candidates, each had something to make fun of. Adams had a corruption scandal involving Turkish Airlines, Cuomo had COVID nursing home and sexual harassment scandals from his time as governor, and Sliwa’s solution to the city’s rat crisis was to create feral cat “colonies.” Sliwa’s Republican candidacy was a long shot that never had a realistic chance, so the limited number of jokes about him is unsurprising. However, there were still more jokes about him than Mamdani, the frontrunner and radical leftist who has trafficked in anti-Semitism and had to be shamed into saying Hamas must disarm.

13 thugs chase, stab, beat, rob teen boy on his way home from school in NYC. They make off with his sneakers — worth $350.

A 15-year-old New York City boy spoke out from his hospital bed this week after police said a group of 13 suspects — also teenagers — attacked and stabbed and robbed him on Oct. 22.Police said the boy was on his way home from school in Jamaica, Queens, when the broad-daylight attack occurred at the intersection of 160th Street and Hillside Avenue, WCBS-TV reported.'What happened to my son is horrific.'With his mother by his side, the victim recounted to the station the words of one of his attackers."Give me all your clothes, whatever you're wearing, your shoes," the boy recalled one of the mob members telling him, WCBS noted. He then told the station, "I [started] running. After that, they pushed me and stabbed me."The vicious attack left the 15-year-old with severe stab wounds, broken bones, bruises — and needing surgery, the station said. After all that, WCBS said the suspects stole the victim's sneakers — worth $350."I was shocked to see my son in this condition," the boy's mother told the station in her native language of Punjabi. "What happened to my son is horrific."RELATED: Video: 5 thugs repeatedly stomp, punch boy, 15, on busy NYC street — and steal his sneakers. Crime expert says there's 'basically nothing you can do to these kids.' Local activist Japneet Singh told WCBS the attack took place on "a major avenue, major corridor" and that "if that can happen to this boy, it can happen to any of our children. We have to make sure we protect our kids."While the boy has months of recovery ahead of him — including three surgeries — his mother told the station she hopes those responsible are caught. Meanwhile, she added to WCBS that she's not leaving his side: "Ever since he was attacked, I've been here with him day and night."Police told WNYW-TV that detectives are reviewing surveillance video from the area to identify those involved. Those with information about the attack are urged to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers hotline at 800-577-TIPS (8477), WNYW said, adding that tips can be submitted confidentially online or by text.Like Blaze News? Sec. Noem fires back after Gov. Pritzker begs to pause ICE and CBP operations for Halloween

Homeland Security Sec. Kristi Noem has denied Democratic Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker's request to halt immigration enforcement operations for the Halloween weekend. Noem provided her response during a press conference on Thursday in Gary, Indiana, to provide updates on Operation Midway Blitz.Pritzker said he wants the three-day pause to keep children safe from federal agents, who have had to deploy tear gas in response to locals getting violent and interfering with operations.'We have individuals that we picked up off the streets with our ICE officers and CBP officers that have assault against a child, child pedophiles, rapes.'"No, we're absolutely not willing to put on pause any work that we will do to keep communities safe. The fact that Governor Pritzker is asking for that is shameful and, I think, unfortunate that he doesn't recognize how important the work is that we do to make sure we're bringing criminals to justice and getting them off our streets," Noem said."We have individuals that we picked up off the streets with our ICE officers and CBP officers that have assault against a child, child pedophiles, rapes. Those individuals don't deserve to be on our streets, and we're certainly not going to let our kids be victimized by them," she added.Noem announced Border Patrol and Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents have arrested over 3,000 illegal aliens since the start of Operation Midway Blitz. RELATED: Legal victory for Border Patrol in Chicago after judge tries to micromanage operations Commander at Large of the US Border Patrol Gregory Bovino. Antonio Perez/Chicago Tribune/Tribune News Service via Getty Images As the "Crossroads of America," Indiana has been working closely with ICE to arrest illegal aliens who are driving 18-wheelers and other large commercial vehicles in the aftermath of several cases involving illegal alien semi-truck drivers allegedly causing fatal accidents. "Through that partnership, 223 illegal aliens have been arrested and taken off of our roads. Of those, 146 of them were drivers. That includes 46 semi-truck drivers and another 82 of them that were either box trucks, buses, moving vans, vehicles such as that," Noem explained. The illegal aliens who were arrested were issued commercial driver's licenses from states such as California, Illinois, and New York.Like Blaze News? JK Rowling crushes Glamour UK magazine for awarding 'Women of the Year' to 9 trans-identifying males

Many are criticizing Glamour UK magazine over its choice for "Women of the Year," but popular author J.K. Rowling is leading the pack. The magazine is giving the award to nine transgender-identifying men, including a DJ, an author, an actor and TikTok creator, a chief executive, and several people identifying as models.'They're misogynistic bullies who borrowed our clothes, put on some lipstick, and then took everything we earned. We are not costumes.'"As trans rights face increasing threat in the U.K., Glamour honours nine of the community's most ground-breaking voices at this year's Women of the Year Awards," reads the justification from the magazine. "From fashion and music to charity and activism work, these trailblazers work tirelessly to empower, uplift and celebrate trans voices."Rowling posted her dissent from her social media account Thursday."I grew up in an era when mainstream women's magazines told girls they needed to be thinner and prettier," Rowling wrote. "Now mainstream women's magazines tell girls that men are better women than they are."Others similarly criticized the total erasure of biological women from an award for women."They're not women. They're not trailblazers. They're misogynistic bullies who borrowed our clothes, put on some lipstick, and then took everything we earned. We are not costumes. And we are not silent," writer Virginia Kruta of the Daily Wire responded."Glamour is a magazine for young girls. It was toxic enough when I was a teenager, pushing unrealistic beauty expectations. I can't imagine what young girls must be thinking now, you hold men up as 'Women of the Year' erasing women and girls, an absolute disgrace," another response reads."Yes, yes, they got a bunch of men with mental illness to pose for their womens magazine," a popular response reads. "We understand that you think the best women are actually men. Thankfully the world is starting to wake up to that nonsense."RELATED: JK Rowling goes scorched-earth on Emma Watson's privileged woke activism: 'She's ignorant of how ignorant she is' The magazine's social media account replied to Rowling with a mocking message."Better luck next year Jo x," Glamour UK wrote.Like Blaze News?
