Waylon Jennings Had Jessi Colter Bring $40,000 Worth Of Cash In Her Bra To Buy His Iconic Gold Cadillac: “I Started Reaching In & Pulling Out Money”

Partners in crime, indeed. Waylon Jennings was known as the ultimate outlaw man, and he had a life that backed that up… especially before he quit his years-long drug habit. It was after he had met his wife Jessi Colter and his son Shooter that he finally kicked the habit for good. Jessi and Waylon met in the ’60s in Arizona at JD’s nightclub, and in October of 1969, they got married and moved to Nashville. Waylon continued to struggle with his drug addiction, and Jessi wanted badly for her husband to quit them, obviously, but she also understood that he needed to do so in his own time and way. That dream eventually came true after Waylon had a heartbreaking moment with his very young son Shooter, and to celebrate his newfound sobriety, Waylon decided to buy a gold Cadillac mostly because Shooter wanted him to. The car was also featured in his “America” music video, but the story behind the buying process is just hilarious and SO Waylon. He wanted Jessi to go with him, and since he was paying in cash, he wanted her to put it in her bra and he would pull it out at the dealership, as he explained in a vintage interview from 1994 with TNN: “Well, I got that one, I was in Phoenix and I had just quit drugs. Now the nose of that Cadillac, and I saw that, and figured, well, take it out of one nose and put it in another. So I bought that Cadillac. Actually, why I bought it was Shooter. He looked at it and said, ‘Dad, I like that, let’s buy it.’ Shooter was four years old, that’s a cool car. Now, another thing is, I got in and turned the key and started it and the radio came on and was playing one of my records. I said, if I used car sales and can arrange that not knowing I’m coming over here, then I gotta buy the car. So it was an omen. And I thought how funny it would be to pay cash for a car, you know, and get Jessi to carry the money in here.” Well, she stuffed $40,000 worth of cash in there, though they didn’t expect to be in the room with two preachers and their wives also in the room, and Waylon admitted he would “pinch her and she would squeal,” so they caused quite a scene and I’m sure no one in there had ever seen anything like that before… just classic: “So me and my buddy, Jessi Colter, went in there, and I didn’t know, but there were two preachers and their wives were there and they had all kinds of people around that I didn’t know. And he said, ‘How would you like to pay for this?’ And there’s that gold Cadillac, and I said, ‘Cash.’ And I started reaching in there, inside her bra and pulling out this money. Every once while I’d pinch her and she would squeal. But on the drive she said, ‘You know, that much, over $40,000 is what you had.’ That didn’t make much difference… there’s not enough money there. But I paid cash for it, and Jessi helped me. Partners in crime, we are.” They really were, and I can just picture how funny that moment had to have been, and I’m sure it was something no one who witnessed it ever forgot, that’s for sure. It’s also something you could probably only get away with if you’re Waylon Jennings and Jessi Colter, but I think it’s hilarious and she’s a good woman for going along with his antics and indulging him like that. They had such a beautiful love story, and she believed in him and loved Waylon unconditionally until the end… you can watch Waylon tell the story below, and I highly recommend doing so: And if you want to see the car in action, check this out: “America” The post Waylon Jennings Had Jessi Colter Bring $40,000 Worth Of Cash In Her Bra To Buy His Iconic Gold Cadillac: “I Started Reaching In & Pulling Out Money” first appeared on Whiskey Riff.

Billy Ray Cyrus Comments On Elizabeth Hurley’s Racy Bathing Suit Pic: “One Of A Kind Young Lady”

Big Wizard of Oz fans, eh? It’s been a rough few months for Billy Ray Cyrus, starting with his disastrous performance during President Donald Trump’s inaugural ball back in January. People were concerned for his well-being, and even his son Trace Cyrus released a message begging his father to get help. Since then things seem to have soured between the “Achy Breaky Heart” singer and his son, with Trace recently calling his adopted father “washed up” and “evil” in a since-deleted Instagram post: “You’re the lamest man to ever walk planet Earth. Honestly embarrassed to ever have considered you my idol. The best thing to come from your downfall is it made me go into beast mode. I refuse to be a washed up, delusional, evil person when I’m old like you. Christ is King. Get right with God. You need it.” But it hasn’t all been bad for Billy Ray. Back on Easter weekend, the singer debuted his new relationship with actress Elizabeth Hurley a couple months ago. The two seem to be having a good time together, sharing  and…well, he’s dating Elizabeth Hurley, so it can’t all be bad. Hurley recently celebrated her 60th birthday (not gonna lie, she’s still looking pretty good for 60 years old…lucky guy, that Billy Ray), and in a post to his Instagram, Billy Ray called Hurley the “love of his life.” (Although one of the top comments accused him of “changing the love of his life like he changes his underwear.”) And yesterday, the actress posed in front of a rainbow for a racy bathing suit photo that she shared to her Instagram, captioning it with the lyrics from the classic song “Somewhere Over The Rainbow.” “Somewhere over the rainbow, skies are blue, And the dreams that you dare to dream really do come true” It’s surely no coincidence that she chose that song for her caption. Billy Ray recently released his own version of the Judy Garland hit from The Wizard of Oz, teaming up with guitarist Micki Free and producer Buck 22 to benefit the National Museum of African American Music here in Nashville. “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” has always represented more than just a melody to me… it’s a symbol of equal opportunity for all. I’m honored to be a part of this special version with Micki Free and Buck 22 to benefit @theNMAAM The National Museum of African American Music… a… pic.twitter.com/PBksXlLzwz — Billy Ray Cyrus (@billyraycyrus) June 25, 2025 I’m gonna be honest, his cover of the song was pretty rough (and by that I mean it was almost unlistenable), but there may have been another reason that he chose to cover that one: In a comment on her post, Billy Ray thanked Hurley for sharing the lyrics to “our song,” calling Hurley a “one of a kind young lady.” “Thank you for sharing our song in such a sweet… beautiful… and truly wholesome way!!!! You are one of a kind young lady!!! Truly an original.” (There were also a lot of emojis in there. For some reason Billy Ray types like a middle aged mom caught in a multi-level marketing scheme. Come to think of it he kinda looks like one these days too…) Regardless, it seems that Billy Ray and Hurley are happy together, despite all of the family drama that he’s dealing with. Most recently, the singer was called out by his adopted son, Trace Cyrus, who accused him of being “hungry for fame” while also calling his dad “a washed up, delusional, evil person” in a since-deleted Instagram post. I guess it’s not all pots of gold at the end of the rainbow for Billy Ray, but hey, he’s still dating Elizabeth Hurley. That’s gotta help quite a bit.The post Billy Ray Cyrus Comments On Elizabeth Hurley’s Racy Bathing Suit Pic: “One Of A Kind Young Lady” first appeared on Whiskey Riff.

‘Dreamsicle,’ Maren Morris’ First Album Since She Left Country Music, Fails To Land Anywhere On The Billboard 200

Maren Morris’ new album Dreamsicle didn’t fare well on the charts. In fact, it’s performed quite terribly. It’s fair to say that the “My Church” singer has “played the hokey pokey” with the country music genre, constantly putting herself in and then back out of the classification of country music (no word on if she’s turning herself around). Morris has said in the past she no longer wants to be a country music artist… just as much as she’s backtracked and said country music is a part of her. And it’s that confusion that likely led to her newest album, Dreamsicle, being the lowest performing major label album of her career. It entirely missed the Billboard 200 ranking after it’s first full tracking frame, which is the first time that’s ever happened to her in her music career. Just for perspective, her 3 previous studio albums charted 5th, 4th and 21st, respectively, on the Billboard 200, and 1st, 1st and 2nd on the Country Albums chart. To not even land on either with Dreamsicle… a total flop. Though I believe it’s very easy to point a finger at Morris choosing to not sit in one genre with her latest album (Dreamsicle is more contemporary pop than it is country), she believes that the project’s struggles stem from the music industry changing the way people consume music. Maren Morris told Vulture that it might just take time for Dreamsicle to gain traction, since she didn’t go the traditional “single route” with her album, and didn’t emphasize social media marketing all that much: “I didn’t really have ‘singles’ from this record. The album rebuilds from the way I’ve been doing things in the past. The world of marketing has changed so much with social media, TikTok, and streaming versus radio. Everything’s almost like a slower, more organic way of building something. I’m fortunate I’ve got a fan base and I can tour, but it’s a different way than I’ve been used to doing things. Which was: You put a single out three months before the full record comes out, you work it at radio, you watch it rise — hopefully — and then everything’s a perfect storm on album-release day. I’ve done that, and that’s the way people, I guess, still do it. But now it’s a lot different.” I gotta ask the question… is Maren Morris really just now finding this out? If she is, at least she’s accepting that she’ll have to adapt to the new direction the music industry is moving towards. Morris went on to say that she’s choosing to avoid looking at charts and numerical graphs for her latest album, and the struggles of Dreamsicle are acting as a bit of a wake up call for her: “I have to be adaptable to new things and humble myself to a new way of releasing music. Radio is obviously important, but it’s not the first thing on the docket anymore. I’m trying to embrace a more independent way of doing things. I still think every song has so much worth. But, yeah, I had to resign myself from looking at any sort of numerical graph or chart, because that wasn’t going to be my directive on this. I’ve got to almost start over, in a way.” If you ask me, the back-and-forth nature of Maren Morris’ country music career is very much to blame for her latest project not ranking in the Billboard 200. If she wants to say she’s not a country artist anymore, that’s fine. There’s nothing wrong with moving on. However, the issue lies within the fact that she’s flip-flopped between condemning and commending the genre. She has said she doesn’t blame anyone who “stays” in the country music industry, but then implies that it’s all about the money if they do. But in the same breath, she stated she left country because her ceiling in the genre was too low… but now she’s finding out that her ceiling was evidently the lowest when she turned her back on the genre that gave her a music career in the first place. You hate to see it….The post ‘Dreamsicle,’ Maren Morris’ First Album Since She Left Country Music, Fails To Land Anywhere On The Billboard 200 first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
