Actor Says He’s Worried Conservative Views Will Keep Him From Getting Role In Long-Awaited Sequel

Among the most culturally significant movies of the mid-1980s was “The Goonies,” and 40 years later there are rumblings that a sequel to the film might be in the works. But Robert Davi, who portrayed Jake Fratelli in the 1985 Steven Spielberg-directed movie, believes the likelihood of him reviving the character might be reduced due to his personal political views. Despite an increase in the number of celebrity endorsements President Donald Trump received ahead of November’s election, it’s still risky for Hollywood stars to openly express conservative opinions. Davi explained how that has impacted his outlook at this stage in his career, as Fox News reported: “We shall see,” he told Fox Digital. “We shall see if they revive Jake Fratelli, or the Fratelli brothers in some way. I hope. I would love to be part of it because it’s such an iconic film that people all over the world still reach out to me on ‘Goonies.’ It’s interesting. It’s become beyond cult status, I think.” Fans of the film still come up to him today, he said, before worrying how his conservatism could work against him in the future of the franchise. “And the funny part about it is Dick Donner, the director, originally said when we did the film, he told me, he says, ‘This is going to be like the modern day ’Wizard of Oz,’” Davi added. “And it’s become that for many, many people. And I get multiple generational families that come up to me and tell me how much they love ‘Goonies’ and how much they love Jake Fratelli because they put the singing in there. So I do hope I’m part of it. I hope that they don’t hold my politics against me and keep me from that project.” Davi explained that not getting the call was a concern because it had happened before. “I’m concerned about it, yes,” he said. “Because it’s happened on other issues, other projects. And it’s just, you know, I believe in free speech and not being politically correct all the time.” After four years of Joe Biden, at least some celebrities opted to throw their support behind Trump last year: Rapper, DaBaby endorses Trump.. “he’s a gangsta!” pic.twitter.com/Yvnb2q2y36 — Jay’V (@JayVTheGreat) October 15, 2024 Hollywood Star Dennis Quaid just publicly endorsed Trump on stage at the Coachella rally “Are we going to be a nation of law and order or wide open borders? The eight-time Grammy winner will sing America The Beautiful alongside the Armed Forces Choir and the US Naval Academy Glee Club shortly before Mr Trump takes the oath of office. Commenting on her part in the day, Underwood said: “I love our country and am honoured to have been asked to sing at the inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event”. The 41-year-old singer has previously kept her political views private. Classical singer Christopher Macchio sang Oh, America! before the vice-presidential oath of office with JD Vance, and closed the ceremony with a rendition of the American National Anthem. Rapper Nelly will be performing at the Liberty Inaugural Ball, and, after facing some criticism, has defended his decision, saying it is “an honour for me to perform for the president of the United States, regardless of who is in office”. During a live-streamed conversation with fellow rapper Willie D on Sunday, Nelly said he was “not political” or “trying to tell anybody who they should vote for” by performing at the event. Meanwhile, rapper Snoop Dogg has faced a backlash from some fans after performing at the Crypto Ball in Washington DC over the weekend. Davi has long been a Trump supporter, as he explained in the following interview prior to the 2016 election:

‘Gobsmacked’ George Clooney Blames Media For Democratic Losses: ‘Dropped The Ball’

‘Gobsmacked’ George Clooney Blames Media For Democratic Losses: ‘Dropped The Ball’

Instead of looking at a far-left political platform that has turned off massive swaths of the American population, die-hard Democrats like actor George Clooney would apparently rather throw the entire news industry under the bus. And while there are plenty of reasons to criticize the mainstream media, his recent remarks seem to suggest such outlets contributed more to President Donald Trump’s resounding victory in November than the Democratic Party’s ineptitude. As the New York Post reported: Actor George Clooney conceded during a Thursday interview that the media failed in its coverage of former President Biden’s fitness and ability to serve. Clooney told The New York Times’ Maureen Dowd that Biden was irresponsible in covering up his “incapacities,” and added, “the media, in many ways, dropped the ball.” Reacting to a moment when former President Obama led Biden off the stage at a Los Angeles fundraiser in June, Clooney said, “I saw him for hours a year earlier at the Kennedy Center, and I saw someone much less sharp.” Dowd wrote that the experience left Clooney “gobsmacked.” It is true, of course, that many in the media either willfully or unintentionally ignored the warning signs about Biden’s mental acuity throughout much of his term in office: Never forget that legacy media told America that Joe Biden was at the top of his game and hid his cognitive decline from the people. pic.twitter.com/KuBr75ax9l — America (@america) December 30, 2024 CBS reporter says most ‘underreported’ story in 2024 was Biden’s ‘obvious cognitive decline’ https://t.co/Z5Mi2kgSGO — Fox News (@FoxNews) January 2, 2025 It’s genuinely shocking how blatantly the media ignores Biden’s cognitive decline and slurring of words. Look at the wildly different search results for Googling Biden and Trump slurring their speech: #SOTU pic.twitter.com/l3tjxCq2bu — Alex Marlow (@AlexMarlow) February 8, 2023 But Clooney opened himself up to similar backlash after failing to report his concerns until well into the election cycle, when an op-ed he wrote was an obvious factor in Biden being forced to drop out of the race. According to the Hollywood Reporter following the publication of that op-ed: When asked about his recent op-ed for The New York Times titled, “I Love Joe Biden, but We Need a New Nominee” published July 10, Clooney took the opportunity to praise the 81-year-old. “The person who should be applauded is the President who did the most selfless thing that anybody has done since George Washington,” Clooney told the conference. “All of the machinations that got us there, none of that’s going to be remembered, and it shouldn’t be,” he continued. “What should be remembered is the selfless act of someone who did the hardest thing to do. It’s very hard to let go of power — we know that; we’ve seen it all around the world — and for someone to say, I think there’s a better way forward, all the credit goes to him, and that’s really the truth.” Here’s some additional coverage of Clooney’s recent remarks:

Hooters Plans To File For Bankruptcy

Hooters of America is planning to file for bankruptcy in the upcoming months. Hooters is in talks with creditors and law firm Ropes & Gray about restructuring the business through bankruptcy court. In 2021, the chain sold $300 million in asset-backed bonds. The once-popular chain has been facing financial difficulties as foot traffic has decreased at dozens of its locations. Follow: @AFpost pic.twitter.com/iSZmUdruvM — AF Post (@AFpost) February 21, 2025 Per Yahoo Finance: Hooters of America is working with creditors on a plan to restructure the business through bankruptcy court in the coming months, according to people with knowledge of the arrangements. The casual dining chain is working with law firm Ropes & Gray to ready a filing, said the people, who added the plans are not final and asked not to be identified discussing private preparations. The court process would likely begin within the next two months, the people said. The company was working to address its debt load with its lawyers as well as turnaround advisers from boutique firm Accordion Partners, Bloomberg previously reported. Some of Hooters’ debtholders have tapped Houlihan Lokey Inc. for advice. Representatives for Hooters, Accordion Partners and Ropes & Gray didn’t respond to requests for comment. A representative for Houlihan declined to comment. Hooters has faced liquidity issues as foot traffic has declined and has shuttered several locations. The chain sold about $300 million in asset-backed bonds in 2021, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. The asset-backed bonds are packaged as whole-business securitizations — through which a company pledges most of its assets, including franchise fees, as collateral — a product popular among restaurant chains, fitness clubs and other businesses with franchised stores. The casual dining chain is preparing for a potential bankruptcy filing as it works with creditors on a plan to restructure its operations, according to Bloomberg News. The has engaged the law firm Ropes & Gray to assist with the process, individuals familiar with the discussions told the outlet. While no final decision for seeking Chapter 11 protection has been made, a filing could take place within the next two months, the sources said.

‘SNL’ Legend Applauds DOGE For Tackling ‘Astronomical’ US Debt: ‘You’d Be Shocked’

Most American voters, particularly those who supported President Donald Trump in November, are aware that the nation has a serious problem with fiscal irresponsibility. That’s why the Department of Government Efficiency and its waste-slashing leader Elon Musk have found support across the political spectrum over the course of Trump’s first few weeks back in office. And while most “Saturday Night Live” veterans have been preoccupied with the show’s 5oth anniversary, Jon Lovitz found time to weigh in on the federal budget, as Fox Business reported: In an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital, the standup comic and former “Saturday Night Live” cast member defended the Trump administration’s efforts to curtail federal spending that he described as “astronomical.” “Here’s the money coming in and here’s the money going out. And the money going out is astronomical and way above what’s coming in – like crazy. And if everyone would look at this – if you haven’t seen it, you’d be shocked.” “There’s tremendous waste and they’re finding it,” Lovitz said about DOGE and President Trump. “And I think that’s a good thing.” Lovitz, who was a lifelong Democratic Party voter until the party’s criticisms of Israel caused him to rethink his affiliation, has once against divorced himself from popular liberal opinion with his pro-spending cuts stance. His contrarian takes on political matters has been the subject of some social media discussion in recent months: Jon Lovitz: Cancel culture ‘no different than McCarthyism’https://t.co/rAgjx9VfqP pic.twitter.com/uFHs9a06el — The Washington Times (@WashTimes) June 15, 2021 Jon Lovitz tears into Colbert, Kimmel for pushing ‘political agenda’ in late night https://t.co/7WVdh6nCba pic.twitter.com/D8vqHk9wMU — New York Post (@nypost) November 21, 2023 Ran into @JesseBWatters at dinner! I cannot thank him enough for letting me on his show, to help stop antisemitism. I’m not a Republican but he doesn’t care. Because some things are more important than politics or how you vote, and he knows this. This is about preventing the… — Jon Lovitz (@realjonlovitz) May 25, 2024 DOGE could end up being a “win-win-win” if one proposal comes to fruition, as The Hill reported: James Fishback, CEO of “free-thinking” investment firm Azoria, has an excellent idea. Fishback made headlines recently by posting on X that, “President Trump and Elon Musk should propose a DOGE dividend — a tax refund check sent to every taxpayer, funded exclusively with a portion of the total savings delivered by DOGE.” Musk, who evidently sleeps with one eye trained on his X feed, sounded positive about the proposition, responding, “Will check with the president.” Why not? What better way to bring home to people the benefits of cutting waste and fraud out of the federal budget? Fishback explains his plan: “Our proposal for the President is simple: tax-paying households should receive $1 for every $5 of total savings that DOGE delivers. That means that if DOGE delivers $2 trillion in total savings, 79 million American households will receive a $5,000 check next summer because of President Trump’s bold leadership.” Trump has shown some interest in pursuing such a plan:

WATCH: President Trump To Maine’s Governor At White House – “I’ll See You In Court”

President Trump and Maine Gov. Janet Mills clashed at a National Governors Association session at the White House on Friday regarding Trump withholding federal funding for not complying with his executive order banning biological men from competing in women’s sports. Trump previously said Maine would not receive federal funding until it complies with the executive order. “We’re not going to give them federal money. They are still saying, ‘We want men to play in women’s sports.’ I cannot believe they’re doing that,” Trump said. “We’re not going to give them any federal funding. None whatsoever until they clean that up,” he added. Because you’re not going to get any federal funding at all if you don’t,” he continued. “Your population doesn’t want men playing in women’s sports,” he said. “We’ll see you in court,” Mills said. “Good, I’ll see you in court,” Trump said. “I look forward to that. That should be a real easy one. And enjoy your life after governor because I don’t think you’ll be in elected politics,” he added. And enjoy your life after Governor because I don't think you'll be in politics" @realDonaldTrump pic.twitter.com/N2DPCd3Vxt — Real America's Voice (RAV) (@RealAmVoice) February 21, 2025 Per Fox News: Mills released a statement on Friday, saying that “The State of Maine will not be intimidated by the President’s threats.” “If the President attempts to unilaterally deprive Maine school children of the benefit of Federal funding, my Administration and the Attorney General will take all appropriate and necessary legal action to restore that funding and the academic opportunity it provides,” she added. Trump told a gathering of Republican governors in Washington, D.C., on Thursday that “I heard men are still playing in Maine.” “I hate to tell you this, but we’re not going to give them any federal money, they are still saying ‘we want men to play in women’s sports’ and I cannot believe that they’re doing that… So we’re not going to give them any federal funding, none whatsoever, until they clean that up,” he added. Trump’s executive order, which was signed on Feb. 5, instructed all federal agencies to review grants, programs and policies that fail to comply with the administration’s efforts to end “male competitive participation in women’s sports… as a matter of safety, fairness, dignity, and truth.” WOW! Look at the Maine Governor's expression when President Trump was ripping into her over her decision to allow men into girls' sports. pic.twitter.com/ocz1dUB420 — George (@BehizyTweets) February 21, 2025 From the Associated Press: The Maine Principals’ Association, which governs high school sports in the state, said earlier this month that it would continue to allow transgender female athletes to compete. The association’s executive director, Mike Burnham, said it would follow the Maine Human Rights Act, which bars discrimination based on gender identity. Mills and Maine’s Democratic attorney general responded Friday morning to Trump’s comments the night before, issuing statements declaring they’d push back. Mills said the state “will not be intimidated” by Trump’s threats. “If the president attempts to unilaterally deprive Maine school children of the benefit of Federal funding, my administration and the attorney general will take all appropriate and necessary legal action to restore that funding and the academic opportunity it provides,” Mills said in a statement before the confrontation with Trump. Aaron Frey, Maine’s attorney general, said he would “defend Maine’s laws and block efforts by the president to bully and threaten us.” The order Trump signed earlier this month gives federal agencies wide latitude to make sure entities that receive federal funding abide by Title IX in alignment with the Trump administration’s view, which interprets “sex” as the gender someone was assigned at birth.
