Five Finger Death Punch (FFDP) got going in ’05 with Zoltan Bathory (great name – he was born in Hungary), a vet of the L.A. based post-Grunge group U.P.O., Ivan Moody, formerly of Santa Barbara’s Nu Metal band Motograter (yes, there is a motograter – it’s like a guitar with industrial cables) and W.A.S.P. guitarist Darrell Roberts. Of the three, W.A.S.P., in one configuration or another (the band started in ’82) was the best known. Rounding out the line-up were bassist Matt Snell and drummer Jeremy Spencer.  Each entry is listed in countdown order. There’s the song title, parent album and release date. 10. Battle Born (Wrong Side Of Heaven And The Righteous Side Of Hell, Volume 2, 2013) Vocalist Ivan Moody said the song references the physical and emotional toll from two years of constant touring. “Even though I was doing what I’d dreamed of doing, it took all the energy that I had… it was exhausting,” recalled Moody. “That made me realize, everything worth fighting for you will actually HAVE TO fight for. Every wish, every dream, every idea comes to existence only through blood, sweat and sacrifice… We are all battle born.” Five Finger Death Punch formed in Las Vegas Nevada. The phrase “Battle Born,” appears on the state flag and is one of Nevada’s nicknames. Battle Born 9. Bad Company (War Is The Answer, 2009) Originally recorded by the band Bad Company in 1974, Five Finger Death Punch updated the song in 2009. It peaked at #2 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart. Bad Company 8. Full Circle (F8, 2020) “We had an extremely successful, yet tumultuous couple of years as a band,” remarked guitarist Zoltan Bathory. “We didn’t just weather the storm but came out on the other side better than ever.” 7. Wash it All Away (Got Your Six, 2015) The song was written by Moody, Bathory, guitarist Jason Hook, drummer Jeremy Spender and producer Kevin Churko. “Wash It Away” went to #1 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart. It was the band’s first #1 on the chart since “Battle Born” two years earlier. Wash It All Away 6. Under And Over It (American Capitalist, 2011) According to Moody, the song was inspired by internet rumors that he committed suicide, had fourteen children and that the band broke up. During a concert Moody pointed out that he was alive, his band was still together, and that “the kid part might be true, I’m waiting on blood tests, but the only drug I do is green.” Under And Over It 5. Inside Out (F8, 2020) Moody said “Inside Out” was his own story calling the song his pardon after what he’s been through in terms of his addiction and of his friends that he lost during that time of struggles. “F8” was the first Five Finger Death Punch album to feature drummer Charlie Engen (replacing Jeremy Spencer) and final album with guitarist Jason Hooks. Inside Out 4. Lift Me Up (Wrong Side Of Heaven And The Righteous Side Of Hell, Volume 1, 2013) The album’s first single features Rob Halford, lead vocalist for Judas Priest. The song premiered at the at the Revolver Golden Gods Awards when Halford joined FFDP onstage. Lift Me Up 3. I Refuse (Five Finger Death Punch: 20 Years Of FFDP – Best Of Volume, 2025) The ballad originally appeared on the ’18 album “And Justice For All.” A new version featuring Maria Brink from In This Moment, was part of compilation of rerecorded FFDP songs (after the band’s former label, Prospect Park, sold the original masters without the band’s knowledge). “I Refuse” was FFDP’s 16th Mainstream Rock Airplay #1. The group first led the chart with “Coming Down” in 2012. I Refuse 2. Wrong Side Of Heaven (Wrong Side Of Heaven And The Righteous Side Of Hell, Volume 1, 2013) “The title stems from where I personally feel like I am,” offered Moody. “I feel like I never really get the chance to touch heaven and I never really get the chance to burn. It’s just purgatory – it’s right there lingering in the center. It’s all gray.” The accompanying video illustrates the plight of soldiers returning home and living with post-traumatic stress disorder.  Wrong Side Of Heaven 1. The Bleeding (The Way Of The Fist, 2007) “That song is a two-part song and it comes across as a relationship piece, which it is,” remarked Moody. ” “Half of it is about my ex-fiancé who meant everything to me. So a lot of that song was about me losing that love and then having to say that it was over and move on. Thanksgiving is a time for American families to gather together around the table, gorge themselves on turkey, mashed potatoes, and stuffing, and celebrate the people and things they are thankful for. However, as the stories of these chilling Thanksgiving crimes show, things sometimes take a darker turn. Despite the good nature of the holiday, it doesn’t magically make people behave well. For some families, the celebration might be ruined by angry disputes over politics or sports. In other cases, the day can turn deadly. From murders and bombings to unruly Black Friday shoppers, read about nine horrifying Thanksgiving crimes and the victims left in their wake. The Thanksgiving Crime That Ended In Cannibalism California Department of CorrectionsOmaima Nelson in a 2006 mugshot. On Thanksgiving 1991, while most American families were celebrating gratitude and togetherness, Omaima Nelson committed one of the most horrifying crimes in California history. That day, the Egyptian-born model bludgeoned her husband to death in their Costa Mesa apartment — then spent the holiday weekend disposing of his remains alongside the leftover Thanksgiving turkey. The 23-year-old woman had married Bill Nelson, a 56-year-old pilot, just weeks earlier. But the Thanksgiving that should have been their first holiday as newlyweds turned into a nightmare that would draw comparisons to the crimes of Hannibal Lecter and Jeffrey Dahmer. According to Omaima, the violence erupted on Thanksgiving weekend when Bill sexually assaulted her. She claimed self-defense, stating that he tried to rape and strangle her before she grabbed a lamp, struck him, and then stabbed him with scissors. But what happened after the killing shocked even seasoned investigators. Omaima dismembered her husband’s body, boiled his head, fried his hands in oil, and reportedly even castrated him in revenge. Then, she barbecued his ribs and ate them. As reported by the Los Angeles Times in 2011, Omaima admitted to a psychiatrist, “I did his ribs just like in a restaurant. It’s so sweet, it’s so delicious. I like mine tender!” YouTubeBill Nelson, the man Omaima Nelson cooked and cannibalized. The grisly Thanksgiving crime continued as Omaima mixed Bill’s remains with leftover holiday turkey and ran the meat through the garbage disposal. Neighbors later reported hearing the machine run all night. When Bill failed to report to work the Monday after Thanksgiving, the police launched an investigation. Officers found body parts in the apartment, including Bill’s hands in a fry cooker and his head in a cooler. However, roughly 130 pounds of Bill Nelson were never recovered. At Omaima’s 1992 trial, prosecutors argued that the Thanksgiving murder was a premeditated robbery, claiming Omaima had a history of conning older men. Her attorneys maintained that she was a battered woman who had acted in self-defense. In January 1993, Omaima Nelson was convicted of second-degree murder and sentenced to at least 27 years in prison. She remains behind bars to this day, having been denied parole multiple times. At subsequent hearings, she has vehemently denied the cannibalism she once confessed to, insisting, “I am not a monster.” But her grisly Thanksgiving crimes tell a different story.
