It took Apple 14 years‚ but this missing app is finally coming to iPad

iPad users rejoiced once Apple introduced the Weather app in 2022 with iPadOS 16. However‚ another iPhone software was still missing from this release‚ which is the Calculator app. After 14 years of no calculator app‚ it has become an inside joke in the community how badly people want Apple to release this app for its tablet. Apple executives generally praised the many third-party apps by saying their offerings were enough‚ but it seems Cupertino might have changed their mind. A source familiar with the matter told MacRumors that Apple finally plans to release a Calculator app for the iPad with iPadOS 18. The publication says all iPad models compatible with this future software update will feature Apple's Calculator app. If rumors are true‚ this means the iPad 6‚ second-gen iPad Pro‚ and the first 10.5-inch iPad Pro will drop support for iPadOS 18‚ so these tablets won't get this long-awaited app. To corroborate this rumor‚ MacRumors talks about AppleInsider's report last week about macOS 15 getting a revamped Calculator app with integration with the Notes app. The publication believes the updated Mac app will be based on the new iPad app. According to AppleInsider‚ Apple is working on its “Project GreyParrot” with new features and enhancements for the Calculator app‚ specifically on macOS 15. The publication says there’ll be a dedicated button at the top left of the Calculator app on macOS 15 that will give users “the option to toggle the history tape from all three calculator views – basic‚ scientific‚ and programmer.” The Calculator app will also resemble its iPhone version‚ according to the report. This could be the first redesign of the software since macOS 10 Yosemite. Another interesting feature is the ability to resize the app’s window without selecting a different calculator view‚ which seems to come with this version. Of course‚ we'll know for sure once Apple unveils the new software at WWDC 2024. We'll keep you in the loop for all the latest rumors regarding Apple's upcoming operating system updates. iOS 17.5 beta 3 now available for iPhone users with these changes

Apple just released iOS 17.5 beta 3 to developers. This might be Apple’s last iOS 17 update for iPhone users before it unveils iOS 18 during the WWDC 2024 keynote on June 10. So far‚ the biggest change for this software is an exclusive EU feature. After Apple opened the iPhone for sideloading due to the Digital Markets Act‚ which adds alternative app marketplaces for EU users‚ Apple is now letting people from the region download apps directly from a developer’s website. Here’s how the company describes this new feature: Web Distribution‚ available with a software update later this spring‚ will let authorized developers distribute their iOS apps to EU users directly from a website owned by the developer. Apple will provide authorized developers access to APIs that facilitate the distribution of their apps from the web‚ integrate with system functionality‚ back up and restore users’ apps‚ and more. Downloading apps directly from the developer's website started to work with iOS 17.5 beta 2. The previous test version also added a new privacy option.  On Screen Time settings and the Content &; Privacy Restrictions tab‚ you can allow app installations from the web. Besides that‚ the latest iOS 17.5 beta adds: Podcasts widget change: The Podcasts widget has a new dynamic color that changes depending on what you’re listening to. Unwanted tracking system: 9to5Mac found references to a new system that can turn off unwanted tracking accessories‚ such as AirTags or other third-party item trackers. This anti-stalking feature has yet to be made available. Image source: Jos&;eacute; Adorno for BGR With iOS 17.4‚ Apple added several functions for iPhone users‚ such as: Gaming app changes: Users can now take advantage of streaming gaming apps‚ such as GeForce NOW. These developers can offer games inside their own apps. Messaging with Siri: Siri can read incoming messages in multiple languages‚ including Spanish‚ Portuguese‚ French‚ German‚ and more. New emojis: Over 28 new emojis are available with iOS 17.4. You can discover them here. iPhone 15 battery lasts longer: Apple says that the iPhone 15 can hold at least 1‚000 complete cycles with up to 80% of total battery life‚ compared to 500 cycles of its predecessors. In addition‚ there’s a new Battery setting that shows the cycle count of your iPhone‚ when the battery was manufactured‚ and when it was first used. New iMessage protocol: iMessage is also being upgraded with iOS 17.4 with a new post-quantum cryptographic protocol that improves end-to-end secure messaging. You can learn more about it here. In addition‚ European users also have exclusive features thanks to the Digital Markets Act. BGR will let you know once we find new features with iOS 17.5 beta 3. Apple releases macOS 14.5 beta 3 to developers

Apple has just released macOS 14.5 beta 3 to developers. At this moment‚ it’s unclear what features this software update might bring‚ as we haven’t found anything so far. As we approach the macOS 15 announcement‚ it’s more likely that Apple is focusing on bug fixes and security patches as it works on new features for this upcoming major update‚ which is said to add Artificial intelligence functions. While macOS 14.5 beta seems a pretty minor upgrade so far‚ macOS 14.4 also didn’t revamp much as well. For example‚ Apple expanded multiple timers on macOS Sonoma with all ringtones currently available on the iPhone. Previously‚ only the classic tones were available. For Apple Music‚ Books‚ and Podcasts apps‚ Apple switched the Listen Now tab to Home. In addition‚ macOS 14.4 added 28 new emojis. Most of the figures are skin tone modifiers and gender variants. Still‚ the new emojis include a lime‚ shaking heads‚ a phoenix‚ and four new gender-neutral family emojis intended to be represented via silhouettes. Podcasts Episode text can be read in full‚ searched for a word or phrase‚ clicked to play from a specific point‚ and used with accessibility features such as Text Size‚ Increase Contrast‚ and Voice Over. It also brought Business Updates in Messages for Business‚ which lets you get updates that you’ve opted into‚ like order status‚ flight notifications‚ fraud alerts‚ or other transactions from trusted businesses. Finally‚ Safari Favorites Bar adds an option to show only icons for websites. BGR will keep following the latest changes with macOS 14.5 beta 2‚ and we’ll let you know if we discover anything new. Alongside macOS 14.5 beta 3‚ Apple has also seeded the third testing version of iOS 17.5‚ iPadOS 17.5‚ watchOS 10.5‚ tvOS 17.5‚ and visionOS 1.2. Apple releases tvOS 17.5 beta 3 as it prepares for main tvOS 18 update

tvOS 17.5 beta 3 is now available to everyone with an Apple TV that can run tvOS. At this moment‚ it’s unclear what this operating system update offers‚ as we couldn’t find anything new. Apple also hasn’t provided release notes so far. That said‚ it doesn’t seem tvOS 17.5 beta will bring anything major‚ as Apple is already preparing for the tvOS 18 update. We’ll discover more about this operating system on June 10 with the WWDC 2024 keynote. With tvOS 17.4‚ Apple also brought a mild beta cycle‚ although it was full of references fo unreleased products and operating systems. With beta 1‚ the company added references to unreleased homeOS software. Most likely‚ this software could be used for a HomePod with a screen. Bloomberg and other outlets have reported on a HomePod with iPad integration‚ like an Amazon Echo Show product. Apple is also apparently working on a HomePod with a circular display. That said‚ instead of the current wave animations that we have on the HomePod‚ we could see music and weather data‚ for example. That would come in handy‚ as tvOS 17.4 beta was adding a SharePlay feature for Apple Music. iPhone users could scan a QR code on the Apple Music app for the Apple TV and join a SharePlay session to add songs to a list and create a listening party. Unfortunately‚ Apple removed this function in the latest betas. It’s unclear if Apple might add this feature back with tvOS 17.5 beta 3. That said‚ HomePod Software 17.4 added a new feature for Siri. According to the release notes‚ “This update enables Siri to learn your preferred media service‚ so you no longer need to include the name of the media app in your request.” With that‚ if you use Pandora or YouTube Music‚ you don’t need to ask the HomePod to play a song on that streaming‚ as Siri will understand this is where you usually listen to songs. BGR will let you know if we discover anything new with tvOS 17.5 beta 3. Apple has also seeded the third testing versions of iOS 17.5‚ iPadOS 17.5‚ watchOS 10.5‚ macOS 14.5‚ and visionOS 1.2. Don't Miss: tvOS 18: Release date‚ features‚ Apple TV compatibility‚ more The post Apple releases tvOS 17.5 beta 3 as it prepares for main tvOS 18 update appeared first on BGR. visionOS 1.2 beta 3 now available to Apple Vision Pro with these features

A week after seeding a new beta build of the second visionOS 1.2‚ Apple is now seeding its third testing version. Although it’s unclear what’s new with this update‚ Apple is still working on making its first spatial computer more reliable to users.  On the same day Apple released visionOS 1.2 beta 1 to developers‚ it made available to visionOS 1.1 users a new Spatial Personas feature. With it‚ you no longer see other people’s Personas in a box but moving freely in the environment. This feature is especially useful with SharePlay as you can watch a movie together‚ play games‚ and more. With that‚ you can take advantage of the beautiful Apple Vision Pro display‚ and when you look at your side‚ there are other people with you‚ making this experience more immersive. Besides that‚ Apple is likely making improvements on overall stability‚ app improvements‚ and other bug fixes with visionOS 1.2 beta 3. With visionOS 1.1‚ Apple added Device Management to Vision Pro. With that‚ IT departments can manage these headsets in the same way they manage other Apple devices. Another change for visionOS 1.1 was the ability to reset this spatial computer if the user forgets the password. This has also become available with the latest visionOS 1.0.3 version. Several users have reported that Apple has also improved FaceTime digital personas and the passthrough image of the real world. Although it’s unclear how much Apple will still be able to improve‚ the company also highlighted tips and tricks to ensure this device captures your best persona. Here’s what you need to have in mind: Capturing won’t start until you’re holding your Apple Vision Pro at eye level. If you don’t start the capture within 15 minutes‚ it’s canceled. You can restart the capture after you put your Apple Vision Pro back on. Find a space with front-facing‚ even lighting so there aren’t shadows on your face. Avoid bright light sources overhead or in the background. Stand or sit in front of a simple‚ neutral background without too many details. Stay in the same location and position during the capture process. Relax your shoulders while holding Apple Vision Pro. Natural‚ genuine facial expressions produce the best results. Alongside visionOS 1.2 beta 3‚ Apple has also released the third testing version of iOS 17.5‚ iPadOS 17.5‚ watchOS 10.5‚ macOS 14.5‚ and tvOS 17.5. BGR will let you know if we discover anything new with visionOS 1.2.
