UPDATE: Brazil Plane Crash Reportedly Included Multiple Cancer Doctors Among The Deceased

The plane crash in the Brazilian state of São Paulo, which killed all 62 people on board, reportedly carried multiple cancer doctors. “The twin-engine turboprop was flying from Cascavel in the southern state of Paraná to Guarulhos airport in São Paulo city when it came down on Friday in the town of Vinhedo, Voepass airline says,” BBC reports. OMG https://t.co/4HNgCGp1B2 pic.twitter.com/8dfWmSv3sw — Dr Frensor (@drfrensor) August 10, 2024 Per Daily Mail: Eight cancer doctors were among the 62 passengers and crew who died when a Brazilian airliner plunged dramatically from the sky and exploded in a fireball. Six leading oncologists and two resident medics, in their final year of training, were on their way from their home city of Cascavel to a cancer conference in Sao Paulo when the twin-engine turboprop ATR 72-500 VoePass Airline flight crashed into a gated community killing all on board on Friday. Eduardo Baptistella of the Regional Medical Council said: ‘Unfortunately we received very sad news and were able to confirm the death of eight doctors. The doctors were going to an oncology conference. These were people who dedicated their lives to saving others.’ Some of the doctors’ names began to emerge last night including radiologist Leonel Ferreira, pediatric cancer expert Sarah Stella and Silvia Osaki. Mr Baptistella said 15 doctors had been scheduled to take the two-hour doomed flight but seven had taken an earlier plane. “The Uopeccan Cancer Hospital in Cascavel confirmed to BBC Brasil that two of its trainee doctors were among the fatalities,” Independent reports. pic.twitter.com/vLqQOuhzYg — Spiro (@Spiro_Ghost) August 11, 2024 Independent reports: Parana state governor Ratinho Junior was also quoted as saying at least eight physicians were on board the flight, and that the death toll also included four professors at Unioeste university in western Parana. Rescue workers and Brazilian emergency crews said the bodies of most of the victims – 34 males and 28 females – have been moved to Sao Paulo’s police morgue for identification. The bodies of the pilot and co-pilot were identified earlier on Saturday, said Dario Pacheco, the mayor of Vinhedo. The victims include four people with dual citizenship, three Venezuelans and one Portuguese woman, said regional carrier Voepass. Firefighters at the crash site said officials are using seat assignments, physical characteristics, documents and belongings such as mobile phones to identify the victims.

First responders arrived on the scene very quickly and we appreciate the work they have done to contain the situation,” Evonik said in a statement. “Evonik cares deeply about safety and investigating the cause of this accident is a top priority,” it added. From AL.com: The Evonik plant in Theodore employs around 750 people and is the company’s largest facility in North America. It’s unclear how many were working at the time of the incident. Kelly Miears, a company spokesperson, said more details about the incident would be forthcoming, and that an update would be provided Sunday. The company, in 2022, announced it was investing $176.5 million toward an expansion of the Theodore plant. The project was to be completed this year and is currently under construction. Miears said none of the new construction was damaged during the incident. The new facility, which is incentivized by taxpayers, will produce methyl mercaptan, which is used to manufacture its MetAmino (DL-methionine) product. The product is utilized in livestock farming to feed animals in a healthy, efficient and sustainable manner. WATCH:

Progressive Snow White Is Due Out March 2025

Disney might have reintroduced the dwarfs in the new version of Snow White (and the Seven Dwarfs). It is hard to tell much from the trailer, but it has a gloomy look about it. They originally left the dwarfs out and received a lot of backlash. The new Snow White, Rachel Zegler, and the new […] The post Progressive Snow White Is Due Out March 2025 appeared first on www.independentsentinel.com.

Joaquin Phoenix Dropped Out Of Gay Romance Right Before Filming Due To ‘Cold Feet’: Report

Actor Joaquin Phoenix has dropped out of a gay romance film just five days before it was scheduled to start filming, leaving the studio in the lurch with no replacement, per a report from Variety. The untitled movie headed up by director Todd Haynes was scheduled to start filming in Mexico this month but is now on hold as the lead star dropped out. A source told Variety that the 49-year-old Academy Award winner got “cold feet” and decided to bail. The movie had already been sold to international distributors before production even began, the outlet noted, and a source said it was too late to recast Phoenix’s role. This abrupt about-face leaves the cast and crew with no work and represents financial losses that could reach seven figures.  “Top Gun: Maverick” star Danny Ramirez was slated to play Phoenix’s love interest in the project. Haynes, who is known for the movie “May December” about a teacher who has an affair with her sixth grade student, based loosely on the real story of Mary Kay Letourneau, spoke with Variety in September 2023 about how the film was developed. “It’s a love story between two men set in the 30s that has explicit sexual content that or at least it challenges you with the sexual relationship between these two men,” the director explained. “One is a Native American character and one is a corrupt cop in LA. It’s set in the 30s. They have to flee L.A. ultimately and go to Mexico.” He added, “But it’s a love story and with a strong sexual component. And what was so remarkable is that it all started with Joaquin having some ideas and some thoughts and just questions and images. And he came to me and said, ‘Does this connect to you at all?’ And I was like, ‘Yeah, this is really interesting.’ And so we would just be on the phone talking and it developed into a script.” Haynes said he helped turn Phoenix’s ideas into the script and noted how, “Joaquin was pushing it further into more dangerous territory, sexually.”

Pelosi Says Letter About 2024 Race ‘Didn’t Sound Like Joe Biden To Me’

President Joe Biden’s letter last month — which declared his intention to stay in the 2024 presidential race — “didn’t sound like” him, according to House Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi (D-CA). In the letter, which was sent to congressional Democrats after a fumbling debate performance that stirred a crisis of confidence in his electability, Biden insisted he would not drop out to honor the will of the more than 14 million primary voters who backed him. However, Biden later did step aside as his allies kept up the pressure, paving the way for Vice President Kamala Harris to take his place leading the ticket. “I didn’t accept the letter as anything but a letter,” Pelosi said during an interview with Ezra Klein on his podcast for The New York Times. “I mean, there are some people who are unhappy with the letter. Let me say it differently. Some said that some people were unhappy with the letter. I’ll put it in somebody else’s mouth. It didn’t sound like Joe Biden to me. It really didn’t.” The letter came up as Klein asked Pelosi about her much-discussed appearance on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” that followed in which the former speaker emphasized she would support whatever decision Biden made about his political future — even though the president was insisting at the time he would not leave the race. “I wanted to see a campaign that could win. Because I had made a decision that I stayed in Congress to defeat what’s his name, because I think he is a danger to our country,” Pelosi said, alluding to former President Donald Trump. Pelosi suggested that she wanted to use her “Morning Joe” appearance “to say, ‘Stop saying things,'” because leaders of NATO were converging in Washington, D.C., that week. “If you have something to say, save it for later, until they’re gone,” Pelosi added. “Because this is a big deal — the summit of NATO, which he has strengthened, grown, and now is hosting. And they’re doing great things, and he’s the center of it all. Save your comments for later.” The New Yorker editor David Remnick noted in a recent interview with Pelosi that people around the former speaker said her “Morning Joe” appearance gave them “space” to call on Biden to step aside. Pelosi said she has “never been that impressed” with Biden’s political operation” during that conversation, just days after suggesting Biden’s face should be added to Mount Rushmore. When Biden did announce he was exiting the race, he did so with another letter. At the time, the White House had said he had tested positive for COVID-19 and was socially distancing while recovering in Delaware. Biden, 81, addressed the public from the White House a couple days later, saying it was time for “younger voices” to lead. CNN reported Pelosi had also told Biden in private that polls showed he could not defeat Trump and warned the president he could hurt other Democrats in down-ticket races if he did not bow out. In recent days, Pelosi said she had not spoken to Biden since he dropped out. Journalist Lesley Stahl even told Pelosi it had been said that Biden was “furious” with her, ostensibly for not having the president’s back. In a new interview with CBS, Biden singled out Pelosi by name as he talked about why he ended his re-election bid. In explaining one of his reasons, Biden said, “a number of my Democratic colleagues in the House and Senate thought that I was gonna hurt them in the races. And I was concerned if I stayed in the race, that would be the topic. You’d be interviewing me about ‘Why did Nancy Pelosi say…’ ‘Why did so-and-so…’ And I thought it’d be a real distraction.”

Biden Makes Numerous False Claims In Softball CBS Interview With No Pushback

President Joe Biden made numerous false claims about his record as president and about Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump during a softball interview that aired Sunday morning. Biden made the remarks during an interview with Robert Costa on “CBS News Sunday Morning” in which Costa did not push back against any of Biden’s false claims nor did he ask Biden any remotely challenging questions about his numerous failures as president. Biden claimed that before he dropped out that polls showed that his race against Trump was “neck and neck,” which largely does not reflect what public polling showed in the weeks after his disastrous debate performance against Trump in late June. He also said that he performed badly only because he was “sick” and that he had “no serious problem.” He said that he dropped out because other Democrats told him that he was going to hurt their races and that he didn’t want to be a distraction during the remainder of the election cycle. He said the other reason he dropped out was that he was so old that he “can’t even say how old I am.” “It’s hard for me to get it out of my mouth and, uh, but things got moving so quickly, it didn’t happen,” he continued. He said that his top priority as president was to stop Trump from becoming president again. Biden again claimed that he decided to run for president because of the riot in Charlottesville and repeated debunked lie that Trump called neo-Nazis and white supremacists “very fine people.” The lie was so egregious that even left-wing Snopes has debunked it. Biden also claimed that Trump represented the Ku Klux Klan in the White House, saying that they felt comfortable coming “out of those woods with no hoods” because they “had an ally.” Trump has repeatedly condemned white supremacy. “They knew they had an ally in the White House, and he stepped up for them,” he falsely claimed. Biden also lied when asked about what will happen with regard to the transfer of power next January when he is no longer president. Biden said that he was not confident that there will be a peaceful transfer of power because of Trump’s comments about “there will be a bloodbath.” Biden’s claim is false, Trump’s remark was made specifically in reference to manufacturing jobs in the U.S. and how electing another Democrat to office will result in an economic “bloodbath for the country.” Biden also falsely claimed that he “created 16 million jobs, real new jobs.” Biden’s claim is greatly distorted because the majority of those jobs, about 9 million, were lost during the pandemic and people were returning to their old jobs. Biden said that the “biggest mistake” that his administration made was “we didn’t put up signs saying ‘Joe did it.'” He also claimed that “MAGA Republicans” have no respect for “political institutions,” a claim that he made immediately after he called the Supreme Court “so out of whack” and in need of reform. President Biden sits down with CBS News chief election & campaign correspondent @costareports for his first interview since announcing his withdrawal from the presidential race. He talks about his decision and his family; his support of the Harris-Walz ticket; and what he sees as… pic.twitter.com/njNECYJVCV — CBS Sunday Morning ? (@CBSSunday) August 11, 2024

Daughters Steal Mom’s To-Do List For Dad & Assign Him The Sweetest Tasks

Whether we like it or not, most of us have some sort of to-do list to get through the day. We’d love to just leisurely float through with an unlimited bank account and tons of fun, but that’s not real life. Kids don’t quite get the responsibility that adults are taxed with and would prefer their parents to just have fun. Matt Ward and his wife, Rachael, share two daughters and a long list of things that have to get done. Rachael told Newsweek she bought a dry-erase board to help the couple manage the tasks, but their two daughters, Katie, 10, and Emily, 7, had a different idea. My daughters made me a new to do list byu/ElectroMatt333 inMadeMeSmile The girls swiped the dry-erase board and replaced it with a to-do list of their own for the dad. He was instructed to, “Be a happy daddy, do daddy things, get cupcakes, a small arrow below also instructed ‘for no reason’, and be very, very funny!” Matt told Newsweek, “When it showed up, my wife started making it my normal to-do list, and then they [his daughters] saw it and asked if they could make it their own version of a to-do list for me.” He Posted A Picture To Reddit, And People Fell In Love With The To-Do List His post in the MadeMeSmile sub has 7,4000 upvotes. It’s hard not to smile at the sweet requests.   The message from his girls tugged at some heartstrings. Like this person, “I’m crying buckets over here. My husband died in January and he left myself, and our two kids. My daughter (7) talks about him all the time and she misses him.” “‘Be a happy Daddy’ Your kids sound adorable and boy do they love you! It’s beautiful. You’re so lucky! This person had a warning for Matt, “I don’t know who you are … I don’t know where you live … But if you don’t buy her cupcakes, i will find you … AND GIFT YOU CUPCAKES MYSELF!” Matt, we’re with the girls. Grab the cupcakes and tell the jokes, work can wait. You can find the source of this story’s featured image here. People In Switzerland Have An Interesting Way Of Commuting—And We’re Jealous

Switzerland does commuting the right way! While many Americans dread the long drives to work or the crowded subways, people in Switzerland have found a much more relaxing way to commute. Some Swiss locals get to work by floating down the Aare River. This helps them to beat the heat and the rush hour traffic. Swiss Locals Travel By Floating Down The River Switzerland has some of the cleanest rivers in the world. So it is no surprise residents swim in the river recreationally to cool off. However, some people have found another use for this river—transportation. According to Business Insider, people in Bern, the city’s capital, often ride the waves of the Aare with their belongings packed in waterproof bags. This Tiktok shows just how locals use the Aare River to get to and from work each day. @pubityearth Interesting and healthy way of getting home from work! #swim #travel #viral #earth #fyp (credit: @unravelledtravels ) ♬ original sound – Pubity Earth Many locals go to the store and purchase an ‘Aare Bag’. This bag acts as an airtight sealer where locals can stash their phones, clothing, and other valuables that they want to keep dry on their river voyage. Then, they jump into the river in their bathing suits and ride the current to work. Riding Currents Instead Of Subways In Switzerland The Aare River is not the only river in Switzerland that gets used as public transportation. An hour north of Bern is the Rhine. People will also use this river to float to work as well. Furthermore, Business Insider shared that there are bathing houses set up along the river so commuters can shower and change. American DJ and music producer Diplo decided to act like a local when visiting Switzerland. He wanted to try this unique mode of transportation. He shared his experience on Instagram. View this post on Instagram A post shared by diplo (@diplo) I think I can speak for all of us when I say I am so jealous of this summer mode of transportation in Switzerland. I would much rather be floating down the river on a beautiful day than sitting in rush-hour traffic. However, while it may seem relaxing, local officials warn people to always be vigilant. The rivers do have strong currents and there have been tricky situations and accidents that have occurred for some of the swimmers. While swimming and riding the current to work is not advised against, it is important to always remain aware of your surroundings and the weather. The source of the featured image can be found here.
