Vanderbilt Expels Students Who Participated In Anti-Israel Protest

Vanderbilt University has expelled‚ suspended‚ or disciplined at least 27 students after an anti-Israel sit-in protest went off the wall last week.Provost Cybele Raver said in a statement that the universitys Student Accountability‚ Community Standards‚ and Academic Integrity Staff reviewed the protest and conducted interviews with students before issuing a range of findings and sanctions that took the individual circumstances of each students conduct into account. The provost added that the review led to disciplinary probation‚ suspension‚ and even expulsion for some students. It was unclear how many students were expelled‚ but student-run newspaper The Vanderbilt Hustler reported earlier this week that 27 students had been suspended for their participation in the protest‚ which took place in Kirkland Hall‚ an administrative building on the Vanderbilt campus that was closed for construction. Three students were also arrested and charged with misdemeanor assault after they pushed past a Community Service Officer to enter the building‚ and a fourth student was charged with vandalism for allegedly breaking a window‚ WSMV reported.Vanderbilt University posted footage from Kirkland Hall showing the large group of students overwhelming the officer as they charged into the building.Students have 10 days to appeal their case to the universitys Appellate Review Board‚ a body consisting of faculty and students‚ the provosts statement added. After making their way into the administrative building on March 26‚ students remained for around 21 hours to protest the administrations decision to stop the student government from voting on an anti-Israel referendum. Videos posted to social media show some of the student protesters panicking as they worried they would be arrested if they left the building to use the bathroom.Others complained that Vanderbilt administration is starving protesters after the officers monitoring the sit-in were brought food from Panera Bread for themselves.Vanderbilt administration prohibited students from receiving food from outside Kirkland and students are currently peeing in bottles‚ one graphic posted by students about the sit-in claims.CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APPProtesters also called emergency medical services for a woman who said that she was at risk of toxic shock because she was not able to change her tampon and cited concerns that she would be arrested if she left the building.UPDATE: some of the students seem to be panicking. They called 9-1-1 because theyre worried one of them could go into toxic shock.Theyre also worried shell be arrested if she leaves the building. https://t.co/U08EzaYLG2 pic.twitter.com/NrXAQvuxeu Steve McGuire (@sfmcguire79) March 27‚ 2024In her statement‚ Provost Raver said the university understands that students choices come with costly consequences. The gravity of this situation and these outcomes weighs heavily on those of us charged with carrying out our responsibility as leaders; we fully understand that student choices and decisions can lead to serious and costly consequences‚ said Raver.Spencer Lindquist contributed to this report.

Emails Reveal Georgia Officials Scrambled To Defend Sanctuary Policies Following Laken Rileys Murder

An email exchange between the Athens‚ Georgia‚ mayor and the Athens-Clarke County sheriff shortly after the murder of Laken Riley showed the officials scrambling to defend the countys policies on detainer requests from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).The email thread obtained through the Georgia Open Records Act and revealed by Rep. Mike Collins (R-GA) earlier this week shows Athens Democratic Mayor Kelly Girtz and Sheriff John Williams discussing the countys policy that does not honor detainer requests from ICE. Riley‚ a 22-year-old Georgia nursing student‚ was allegedly murdered by an illegal immigrant while she was on a run near the universitys campus in February. Two days after Rileys brutal murder‚ Sheriff Williams reached out to the mayor‚ seeking clarification on whether the county embraces being considered a sanctuary‚ adding that he will do everything in my power to protect the integrity and professionalism of the Clarke County Sheriffs Office and myself.Obtained through Georgia Open Records Act‚ the exchange on February 24‚ 2024‚ shows Sheriff Williams questioning Mayor Girtz about the county';s sanctuary status‚ as he is unaware.Sheriff Williams seems to care more about the PR than anything else. (2/5) pic.twitter.com/foSahBbefE Rep. Mike Collins (@RepMikeCollins) April 4‚ 2024Girtz defended the Sheriffs Office policy to refuse to hold illegal immigrants upon request from ICE‚ saying that immigrants are less likely to commit crime than the native-born population. While the community is experiencing deep trauma right now‚ and emotions are understandably raw‚ I support the detainer policy as one that is both humane and following the well-documented propensity of immigrants in the U.S. to be less criminally inclined than the native-born population.Mayor Girtz';s response is even worse‚ endorsing non-cooperation policies with ICE and minimizing the seriousness of illegal immigration. He defends the subversion of federal authority by essentially saying‚ American citizens are worse anyways‚ so let the illegals go. (3/5) pic.twitter.com/vom603OGFY Rep. Mike Collins (@RepMikeCollins) April 4‚ 2024Rileys suspected murderer‚ 26-year-old Venezuelan Jose Ibarra‚ was reportedly let go after being detained at the southern border due to a lack of space at the detention center. He was then arrested in New York in August 2023 after he was caught driving an unregistered car with a 5-year-old inside. According to a police report‚ a few months later‚ Ibarra and his brother Diego allegedly stole food and clothing from a Walmart in Athens‚ Georgia. They were both given a citation for misdemeanor shoplifting and let go.My take-away for the moment is that in the immediate wake of a tragedy‚ to focus on the victimavoid political messagingfocus on comfort and unity (from the slideshow pp. 13-14)‚ the mayor added in his email. I know how difficult this time is for everyone given the tragedy Athens has experienced‚ as well as the variety of things that land on our phones and computers.During a press conference after Rileys murder‚ Girtz was shouted down by angry residents‚ who called him a liar and said he had blood on [his] hands when he argued that the jurisdiction doesnt fit the state laws definition of a sanctuary for illegal immigrants. The Center for Immigration Studies lists Clarke County on its map of states‚ cities‚ and counties that fit the definition of a sanctuary.CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APPAthens Mayor Girtz (D) just tried to shift away blame over Laken Riley';s deathAngry residents were NOT having any of it: pic.twitter.com/V6uXFqQAh6 End Wokeness (@EndWokeness) February 28‚ 2024Rep. Collins called out the mayor for focusing more on PR instead of calling for immigration laws to be enforced.Instead of prioritizing solutions to prevent tragedies like this in the future‚ Mayor Girtz treats Laken Rileys murder as a PR drill to be managed with comfort and unity rather than enforcing the law‚ Collins wrote. The Republican congressman sponsored the Laken Riley Act‚ which would require federal officials to arrest illegal immigrants who have been charged with theft in the United States. The House passed the bill by a vote of 251-170 last month‚ and it now awaits action to be taken on it in the Democrat-controlled Senate.

House Dems Introduce Bill To Rename Federal Prison After Trump

House Dems Introduce Bill To Rename Federal Prison After Trump

Days after House Republicans proposed renaming the Washington Dulles International Airport after former President Donald Trump‚ Democrats introduced a bill seeking to put Trumps name on a different place: a federal prison.Reps. Gerry Connolly (D-VA)‚ John Garamendi (D-CA)‚ and Jared Moskowitz (D-FL) introduced legislation on Friday that would change the name of the Miami Federal Correctional Institution which is the closest federal prison to Trumps Florida home at Mar-a-Lago to Donald J. Trump Federal Correctional Institution‚ The Hill reported. The proposal was a direct response to a Republican-sponsored bill introduced earlier this week that would name the Washington Dulles Airport after the former president. When our Republican colleagues introduced their bill to rename Dulles after Donald Trump‚ I said the more fitting option would be to rename a federal prison‚ said Connolly in a press release. I see no reason to wait. Donald Trump faces nearly 100 felony charges. He has been found liable of sexual abuse and‚ subsequently‚ for defaming the victim of that abuse. He has been fined hundreds of millions of dollars in a civil fraud case. It is only right that the closest federal prison to Mar-a-Lago should bear his name. I hope our Republican friends will join us in bestowing upon Donald J. Trump the only honor he truly deserves.Trump‚ who is currently leading in the polls for the 2024 presidential election‚ faces 88 criminal charges spread across four different indictments‚ including in Florida‚ where special counsel Jack Smith has charged Trump with mishandling classified documents after leaving office. Each of the four criminal cases against the leading presidential candidate has hit various roadblocks‚ and none of the trials have yet begun. The New York hush money case‚ where Trump is accused of falsifying business records in an attempt to cover up alleged payments to porn actress Stormy Daniels‚ will likely be the first trial against Trump to get off the ground as it is scheduled to begin on April 15. The case is widely viewed as the weakest criminal case brought against the former president.Rep. Guy Reschenthaler (R-PA)‚ the chief deputy whip of the House GOP‚ announced on Tuesday that he was leading the endeavor to rename Washington Dulles International Airport in Virginia as the Donald J. Trump International Airport. As millions of domestic and international travelers fly through the airport‚ there is no better symbol of freedom‚ prosperity‚ and strength than hearing Welcome to Trump International Airport as they land on American soil‚ Reschenthaler said.CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APPThe bill to rename the airport is co-sponsored by Reps. Chuck Fleischmann (R-TN)‚ Paul Gosar (R-AZ)‚ Troy Nehls (R-TX)‚ Andy Ogles (R-TN)‚ Barry Moore (R-AL)‚ and Mike Waltz (R-FL).Daniel Chaitin contributed to this report.

Hunter Biden Attorney Met With White House Days Before He Defied Congressional Subpoena: Report

White House visitor logs showed that an attorney for Hunter Biden met with one of First Lady Jill Bidens top aides as well as President Joe Biden himself days before the presidents son defied a congressional subpoena‚ the New York Post (NYP) reported Saturday.Hunters attorney Abbe Lowell had a meeting with Anthony Bernal‚ who has been an aide for Jill since 2008‚ in the East Wing of the White House on December 11‚ 2023‚ according to the NYP. Visitor logs also showed that Lowell met with Joe Biden‚ but the Post noted that meeting was most likely in the context of an official Hanukkah reception held the same day.Weve called on the White House to provide information about whether President Biden sought to influence or obstruct our investigation by preventing‚ discouraging‚ or dissuading his son from complying with the subpoenas for a deposition as part of the House of Representatives impeachment inquiry‚ but the White House has refused to provide any information‚ House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) told the Post. The White House must provide the public with information about the contents of this meeting in order to provide transparency to the American people‚ he added. Two days after Lowell visited the White House‚ Hunter skipped his scheduled deposition with congressional investigators regarding the corruption-focused impeachment inquiry into the president. Thepresidents brother‚ James Biden‚ as well asHunter Bidens art dealer and business associates‚ had also received congressional subpoenas.Hunter did show up on Capitol Hill the day he was supposed to sit down for the deposition‚ but instead of meeting with investigators‚ he held an impromptu press conference‚ denyingthat his father was financially involved in his business affairs‚ including in dealings abroad with people from China and Ukraine‚ as well as his investments domestically and work as an artist.White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre later remarked that Joe Biden was familiar with what Hunter planned to say at the press conference.Under threat of being held in contempt of Congress by House Republicans‚ Hunter finally agreed to sit down for a deposition in late February. In the transcript for the deposition‚ Hunter confirmed that his father was‚ in fact‚ the big guy referenced in a message related to a proposed business deal with a Chinese company.Hunter declined an invitation in March to testify in a public hearing before the Oversight Committee‚ with Lowell citing a scheduling conflict.CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APPWeve proven the crimes. Now its time to hold people accountable for the crimes and Joe Biden needs to answer some questions in front of the Oversight Committee‚ Comer told Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo during a Wednesday interview. Weve had three Biden associates that said [President Biden] was the closer of selling the Biden brand.Comer and House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) subpoenaed Devon Archer‚ one of Hunters former business associates‚ on Thursday to hand over documents that had originally been requested in August 2023 related to Biden family business dealings.Daniel Chaitin contributed to this report.

Coach Of Top Womens College Basketball Team Says Men Should Play Against Females If You Consider Yourself A Woman

Dawn Staley‚ the head coach of the undefeated South Carolina womens basketball team‚ said on Saturday that trans-identifying players should be allowed to participate against women as long as they consider themselves to be a woman.Staley made her comments on men competing in womens sports following the Gamecocks blowout win in the Final Four over NC State. Asked by Outkick reporter Dan Zaksheske to explain her position on the inclusion of transgender athletes‚ biological males‚ in womens sports‚ the coach struggled to come up with an answer before saying she supports men competing against women. If youre a woman‚ you should play; if you consider yourself a woman‚ and you want to play sports‚ or vice-versa‚ you should be able to play‚ Staley said. Thats my opinion.Zaksheske asked her to clarify if she believes trans-identifying men should be able to compete against women.Thats the question you want to ask‚ so Ill give you that: Yes. Yes‚ she responded. So now the barnstorm of people are going to flood my timeline and be a distraction to me on one of the biggest days of our game‚ and Im ok with that.I asked South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley if she supports transgender women (biological males) playing women';s college basketball. Staleys team is currently 37-0 on the season and has breezed through the NCAA tournament. Staley has coached at South Carolina since 2008 and has won two national championships while reaching six Final Fours. The national championship game is on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. ET.While the controversy surrounding men playing in womens sports has yet to directly affect Division I womens college basketball‚ there have been numerous instances of men competing in sports against females and beating them in recent months. Earlier this year‚ multiple trans-identifying athletes took the floor with women in a college volleyball match in Ontario‚ Canada.Lady ballers assemble! https://t.co/EP0bxt4rv6 Riley Gaines (@Riley_Gaines_) April 6‚ 2024At Nazareth University in New York‚ trans-identifying track athlete Sadie Schreiner set a new school record in the 300m dash in December‚ clocking in at 41.80 seconds‚ which was also good for first place in the race. Schreiner reportedly competed in the same track event a year before as a male and finished in 19th place in the 100m dash.CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APPMen competing in womens sports became a major issue in 2022 when UPenn swimmer Lia Thomas‚ who previously competed as a male‚ won a national championship title in the 500-yard freestyle over standout Virginia swimmer Emma Weyant. The NCAA allows men to compete in womens sports as long as they submit an NCAA Transgender Student-Athlete Eligibility Review Form and have a testosterone level that is within the allowable levels for the sport in which the student-athlete plans to compete.

Biden Faces Potential Trouble Getting On General Election Ballot In Midwestern State

Democrats and the campaign for President Joe Biden are heading for trouble in Ohio as a law in the state could prevent Biden from appearing on the ballot in November. The Ohio Secretary of States office sent a letter to Ohio Democratic Chair Liz Walters on Friday‚ warning of an apparent conflict in Ohio law as the Democratic National Convention where Biden will officially be nominated is scheduled for August 19‚ 12 days after the deadline when presidential nominees must be certified by the Secretary of State‚ ABC News reported.I am left to conclude that the Democratic National Committee must either move up its nominating convention or the Ohio General Assembly must act by May 9‚ 2024 (90 days prior to a new laws effective date) to create an exception to this statutory requirement‚ wrote Paul Disantis‚ legal counsel for the Ohio SOS.The Ohio General Assembly is controlled by Republicans. Both state House Minority Leader Allison Russo and state Senate Minority Leader Nickie Antonio were copied on the general counsels letter. Were monitoring the situation in Ohio and were confident that Joe Biden will be on the ballot in all 50 states‚ a Biden campaign spokesman told ABC News.Ohio‚ which has been a vital swing state in recent history‚ recently shifted Right with former President Donald Trump winning the state by eight points in both 2016 and 2020. Before Republicans recent success in Ohio‚ Democrats counted on the midwestern state for election victories under Barack Obama in 2008 and 2012.Trump currently leads Biden in Ohio by 10 points‚ according to the RealClearPolitics average of polling data. In both of the last two polls taken of the state‚ Trump maintains a double-digit lead.CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APPWhile Ohio‚ with its 17 electoral votes‚ appears to be comfortably in Trumps hands‚ a win in the state for Biden would significantly lower the Republican candidates chances of pulling off a 2024 victory.
