Two Bodies Found After Massive Cargo Ship Ripped Apart Baltimore Bridge

The bodies of two construction workers were found on Wednesday after a massive cargo ship‚ the Dali‚ slammed into and ripped apart the Francis Scott Key Bridge where they were working. Maryland State Police said that divers located the two bodies inside a red pickup at the bottom of the Patapsco River. The search for the other four missing workers‚ who are all presumed dead‚ was paused because “additional vehicles are encased in concrete and other debris‚ making it unsafe for divers‚” CNN reported. The ship’s black box was recovered by investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board and members of the crew will be interviewed in the coming days‚ the report said. The Wall Street Journal reported that investigators will be looking at whether “contaminated fuel played a role” in the 1‚000-foot cargo ship‚ which weighs more than 116‚000 tons‚ slamming into the bridge. The ship can carry up to 10‚000 containers and is considered “an industry workhorse‚” the report added. “The vessel went dead‚ no steering power and no electronics‚” an officer on the ship told the Journal. “One of the engines coughed and then stopped. The smell of burned fuel was everywhere in the engine room and it was pitch black.” Six construction workers who were filling potholes on the Francis Scott Key Bridge are presumed dead. Jeffrey Pritzker‚ executive vice president of Brawner Builders‚ told NBC News that the six individuals who went missing during the accident were working in the middle of the bridge when the ship struck‚ causing the bridge to collapse. CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP “This was so completely unforeseen‚” Pritzker said. “We don’t know what else to say. We take such great pride in safety‚ and we have cones and signs and lights and barriers and flaggers.” Jesus Campos‚ who has worked on the bridge for the company‚ said that he knew some of the members of the crew. He said that they were on a break sitting in their trucks when the ship hit. “I know that a month ago‚ I was there‚ and I know what it feels like when the trailers pass‚” Campos said. “Imagine knowing that is falling. It is so hard. One would not know what to do.”

Illegal Immigrant TikToker Who Went Viral Urging Migrants To Take Over American Homes Is Wanted By ICE: Report

A Venezuelan national who crossed over the U.S. southern border illegally in 2022 went viral this month for urging migrants to come to America and illegally take over homes via squatting. He’s now reportedly wanted by federal authorities. Leonel Moreno‚ according to the New York Post‚ was enrolled in a program called ATD‚ or the Alternatives to Detention. Instead of staying in a detention center near our border‚ Moreno‚ due to overcrowding‚ was given an ankle monitor and tracked by feds while he stayed in the U.S. However‚ Moreno is now listed as an “absconder‚” according to internal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) documents viewed by the Post. In one of his most infamous social media videos‚ Moreno told followers to “seize” uninhabited homes in the U.S. by squatting‚ and went on to claim that he has friends who have taken over 7 homes illegally by using such tactics. “I already got some cheat codes from my African friends. They told me that they already have seized about 7 houses‚” Moreno boasts in the video. Noted migrant now promotes squatting as a business model. pic.twitter.com/sy8tTIMuzn — Jorge Bonilla (@BonillaJL) March 20‚ 2024 Despite Moreno accumulating tens of thousands of followers and millions of views online‚ it’s unclear if ICE will actually follow through to detain the illegal. John Fabbricatore‚ a former ICE field office director for the agency in Denver‚ told the Post that illegals who abscond from the ATD program will likely not be tracked by federal agents‚ and will generally only become a target for ICE if local law enforcement arrest the illegal. Currently‚ Moreno’s profile on TikTok has been deleted‚ though he is still active on Instagram. On Wednesday‚ he posted a video in which he holds up hundred-dollar bills next to his baby daughter. The post is captioned‚ “Slave you are and slave you will remain.” Moreno this month unintentionally drew attention to a major problem plaguing cities across the nation: squatting. A leftist push for tenants’ rights in conjunction with pandemic-related eviction moratoriums are believed to have spurred the crisis. Just last month‚ a woman in Queens‚ New York‚ named Adele Andaloro was arrested for changing the locks to her own million-dollar home in an attempt to remove at least three people who were living there illegally. In New York City‚ squatters have rights after just 30 days. It’s against the law for property owners to turn off utilities‚ remove belongings‚ or change the locks. Property owners have to take squatters to court‚ a legal avenue that can take months or possibly years to resolve. Cities like Philadelphia‚ Los Angeles‚ and Atlanta have also seen alarming trends with illegally occupied homes. For example‚ the National Rental Home Council in January found that around 1‚200 homes in the metro Atlanta area had squatters. She began to exclude herself‚ she did not want to play with her classmates. She felt strange‚ different.” Nayeli said that Adhara eventually developed depression‚ and she completely shut herself off from her classmates. “She didn’t want to do things anymore. She was very depressed‚ people did not have empathy‚ they made fun of her‚” she continued. A Therapist Helped Discover That Adhara Perez Sanchez Was a Genius Adhara Perez Sanchez began seeing a therapist to cope with her emotions‚ and they suggested that her parents test her IQ. When they did‚ she scored 162. Einstein and Hawking both had an IQ of 160. Despite the bullying and depression‚ Adhara graduated grade school at 5—then she went on to complete middle and high school in only one year. Adhara moved forward and earned a bachelor’s degree from CNCI University. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Adhara Maite Pérez Sánchez (@adhara_perez11) Adhara Perez Sanchez became fascinated with space travel and rocket science after noticing artwork that showcased Hawking’s work during a therapy session. To give her a better chance with NASA‚ she has already completed a course in systems engineering. “‘I want to go to space and colonize Mars‚” she told the publication. “If you don’t like where you are‚ imagine where you want to be. I see myself at NASA‚ so it’s worth a try.” Once she graduates from her current program‚ Adhara hopes to enroll in the University of Arizona’s astrophysics program. The future of healing: 3D printing skin directly onto open wounds

Pennsylvania State University researchers achieved a major medical science breakthrough by being the first team ever to 3D print real human skin tissue directly onto open wounds. This novel strategy has enormous potential to revolutionize wound healing‚ reconstructive surgery‚ and even hair loss therapies. Addressing imperfections in conventional methods Traditional wound treatment procedures‚ such as skin transplants‚ frequently fail to produce optimal results. Ibrahim Ozbolat‚ professor of engineering at Penn State and lead author of a paper on the research emphasizes the limitations of present procedures‚ stating that “reconstructive surgery… is usually imperfect‚ resulting in scarring or permanent hair loss.” This emphasizes the critical need for new approaches to addressing these limitations. The breakthrough: 3D bioprinting of living human skin Building on prior trials with 3D bioprinted skin layers‚ the research team went on a ground-breaking mission to directly repair damaged tissue through a layered approach. Printing the hypodermis and middle dermis layers allowed the epidermis to grow organically over time‚ resulting in seamless tissue regeneration. Ozbolat highlights the significance of their findings‚ adding‚ “We demonstrate bioprinted‚ full-thickness skin with the potential to grow hair in rats‚” indicating a prospective option for more natural-looking reconstructions. Bioink: a blend of proteins and stem cells At the center of this discovery is bioink‚ a meticulously created combination of proteins and stem cells produced from human adipose tissue. This novel mixture‚ when coupled with a clotting solution‚ serves as the basis for tissue regeneration. Ozbolat elaborates on the bioink’s composition‚ emphasizing its role in wound healing and hair follicle regeneration. Promising results and future applications Surprisingly‚ the 3D-printed skin tissue developed both epidermis and hair follicles within two weeks‚ demonstrating the approach’s efficiency. Ozbolat anticipates a wide range of applications for this technique‚ including dermatology‚ hair transplantation‚ and reconstructive surgery. He underlines the possibility of “a far more aesthetic outcome‚” signaling a new era in medical aesthetics. Towards translation and implementation While the research shows great potential‚ integrating its findings into clinical practice remains a daunting task. Ozbolat acknowledged the obstacles ahead‚ pointing out that human trials are still on the horizon. Nonetheless‚ the team’s recent patent grant highlights the transformational potential of its bioprinting process‚ indicating an important step toward real-world applications. Redefining possibilities in medical science As technology expands the bounds of what is conceivable‚ the promise of 3D-printed living human skin provides new hope for both patients and practitioners. With continuing research and collaboration‚ this cutting-edge technology has the potential to transform wound care‚ reconstructive surgery‚ and beyond. As we approach a new frontier in medical knowledge‚ the future of healing appears more promising than ever. Rowing against the current: Botswana’s women safari guides inspire and empower

In the calm of Botswana‘s Okavango Delta‚ where the morning sun creates a golden glow on the water’s surface‚ an amazing metamorphosis is occurring. Women are taking the lead in changing an industry that was formerly thought of as a man’s domain: guiding tourists through beautiful waterways. The magnificence of the Okavango Delta Bontle Cindy Mothogaathobogwe‚ a pioneering woman guide‚ refers to the Okavango Delta as Africa’s crown gem. She is part of the indigenous Bayei tribe from Maun‚ grew up in the small village of Boro on the southern fringes of the Okavango Delta‚ and began steering traditional mokoro canoes when she was a young child.  “To ride a mokoro through these waters is truly special‚” she goes on to say. “It’s like being an ambassador of our state‚ sharing our culture with tourists amidst the tranquility of the Delta.” Compared to other safari sites such as Kruger National Park‚ the Okavango Delta has been mostly unaffected by human influence. Its two-million-hectare swath of marshes and grasslands supports a diverse range of animals‚ including 264 mammal species‚ 157 reptile species‚ and 540 bird species‚ which are protected by the indigenous Bayei tribe of Maun. The Bayei tribe serves as guardians of the Okavango Delta‚ preserving its rich biodiversity and safeguarding its status as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Their efforts combat poaching and farming encroachment‚ ensuring the survival of 264 mammal species‚ 157 reptile species‚ 540 bird species‚ and the iconic population of elephants. Preserving traditions and empowering women For centuries‚ residents have mokoro to navigate the Delta’s complex waters. Today‚ women like Mothogaathobogwe are rewriting history by leading tourists through this unspoiled environment. “In the olden days‚ women collected grass for building materials‚” she said. “Now‚ we’re breaking barriers‚ leading tourists on mokoro expeditions‚ and reshaping narratives.” A journey of conservation and inspiration  Mothogaathobogwe’s guiding focuses on more than just traversing the Delta; it also promotes environmental protection and community empowerment. “My community sees me as an inspiration‚” she said. “They’re learning from me‚ and every day‚ we’re challenging stereotypes and promoting diversity in the industry.” Women have long struggled with prejudices in the safari sector‚ believing that guiding requires Herculean strength and long separations from family. These assumptions have kept female involvement low. However‚ a new movement in Africa is actively empowering women in this area. An all-female Batswana safari guide team at Botswana’s Chobe Game Lodge is pushing norms. Meanwhile‚ African Bush Camps launched a Female Guide Program in 2021‚ which would include extensive driving and animal tracking instruction. Surprisingly‚ more than 200 candidates competed for just five prized positions. Notably‚ Asilia Africa’s Dunia Camp in Tanzania’s Serengeti stands out as one of the continent’s first all-female safari camps‚ with women in positions ranging from chefs to guides‚ managers‚ and housekeepers. Mothogaathobogwe and Beauty‚ her fellow mokoro poler‚ are part of a small number of women who thrive in Africa’s safari sector. They challenge convention as Ker and Downey Women Empowerment Scheme grantees by taking in typically male-dominated roles such as mokoro polers and mechanics. MC Odumetse‚ group managing director of Chobe Holdings Ltd.‚ explains‚ “This initiative is part of our broader commitment to challenge stereotypes and promote diversity in the safari industry‚ reflecting our belief that talent knows no gender boundaries.” The motivation to move forward The ripple impact of empowering women in the safari industry goes far beyond individual success stories. It drives good transformation in local communities‚ resulting in increased economic prosperity and household stability. Furthermore‚ it broadens educational options for children and boosts community morale. Reflecting on her impact‚ Mothogaathobogwe shares‚ “My community is very impressed; they are highly motivated by me. I would say I am their inspiration‚ and they are learning from me.” Mothogaathobogwe exemplifies persistence and tenacity as she handles her mokoro and scans the water’s surface. Her path is more than just a professional choice; it is a monument to women’s unwavering energy‚ reshaping landscapes and narratives one paddle at a time. The post Rowing against the current: Botswana’s women safari guides inspire and empower first appeared on The Optimist Daily: Making Solutions the News.
