Did Homo Erectus Have Language‚ Build Boats‚ And Sail Across Oceans&;#63;

Archaeologists are currently locked in a debate about whether or not one of our most enigmatic ancestors possessed language. According to some‚ traces of the extinct human species Homo erectus on remote islands suggests they must have been able to build boats and navigate the waves‚ all of which would have required advanced communication skills.However‚ a new analysis of this theory has found some major holes‚ ultimately concluding that the idea simply doesn’t float. First appearing in the archaeological record around 2 million years ago‚ H. erectus spread through Eurasia before disappearing a little over 100‚000 years ago. It has even been suggested that the extinct human lineage made it all the way to the islands of Flores in the Indian Ocean and Crete in the Mediterranean.This apparent maritime mastery has inspired the theory that H. erectus possessed the necessary language skills to collaboratively build seaworthy vessels and sail the seas‚ yet linguistics professor Rudolf Botha from Stellenbosch University is unconvinced. For starters‚ he says it’s a bit of a stretch to assume that the ancient species ever set foot on Crete in the first place.To back up this argument‚ Botha points out that no H. erectus fossils have ever been found on the island‚ and while prehistoric Cretan stone tools have been tentatively attributed to the species‚ some scholars think they were more likely to have been made by Neanderthals. Over on Flores‚ meanwhile‚ the most ancient human remains ever discovered belong to the famous “Hobbit-like” Homo floresiensis‚ which is thought to be a descendent of H. erectus but may also have evolved from other hominids like Homo habilis or Australopithecus.It’s therefore not completely certain that H. erectus actually made it to either of these islands‚ although Botha admits that this does seem more likely in the case of Flores than it does for Crete. However‚ even if the ancient human lineage did sail to Flores‚ this doesn’t necessarily mean that they did so deliberately or built boats for their trip.Pointing to assertions made by numerous other scholars‚ Botha suggests that H. erectus may have accidentally ended up on Flores after being swept out to sea on “natural rafts” made of local vegetation. “Crossing the stretches of open water separating Flores from the nearest other islands did not necessitate the use of boats or non-natural rafts‚” he writes. “For this purpose‚ natural rafts were readily available to Homo erectus.” Exactly how these involuntary voyages occurred is unclear‚ although “anecdotal accounts of natural rafting events and pertinent modeling” suggest that tsunamis and cyclones may have played a role.Overall‚ then‚ the study author concludes that there simply isn’t enough evidence to prove that the species intentionally built boats and sailed to either Flores or Crete. Using this so-called “Seafaring Inference” as a basis for H. erectus language is therefore highly flawed‚ although that doesn’t mean that the ancient lineage definitely lacked linguistic skills.Indeed‚ other researchers have pointed to the collaborative scavenging tactics employed by H. erectus as evidence for the use of language‚ while others say that the hominid’s ability to create symmetrical tools‚ combined with its large brain size‚ may indicate that it was intelligent enough to talk.The study is published in the Cambridge Archaeological Journal.

World-First Approach To Save Corals Plays Their Babies A Reef Soundtrack

World-First Approach To Save Corals Plays Their Babies A Reef Soundtrack

In the Maldives‚ a team of scientists are putting on what they’ve coined “Live Aid for corals”. Previous investigations have revealed that when convincing baby corals (aka larvae) to set up camp‚ they can be swayed by the sound of a bustling reef‚ but will avoid areas that are too quiet. So‚ how can we convince them to settle on reefs that need rebuilding&;#63; With some underwater speakers and a bit of creative realtor work.Prof Steve Simpson of the University of Bristol has been studying the soundscape of underwater environments to see what they can tell us about the health of a habitat‚ a monitoring approach known as “ecoacoustics”. We often imagine corals as quiet and stationary‚ but the truth is that a healthy reef is a symphony of sound‚ and the corals living there had to swim to join the party – a fact that knocked presenter Steve Backshall’s socks off.         When asked what the most standout moment from filming for Our Changing Planet‚ Backshall told the BBC: “It would be finding that coral as it moves‚ as zooplankton can hear the difference between denuded and healthy reefs and it could swim towards the healthy one to set up and start growing there.”We're trying to use the soundscape to bring in the next generation that then can start to create the healthy reef that makes the sound itself.Prof Steve SimpsonThe discovery was one that even coral expert Simpson didn’t see coming.“I remember the first time we worked on this where someone in the Caribbean had our sound systems‚ and [they] said‚ 'We're going to chuck some corals in the choice chambers.' And I said‚ 'You're crazy‚ there's no way a coral can respond to sound‚ it doesn’t have ears‚ it doesn’t have a brain.' And sure enough‚ he sent me the videos the next day of these corals moving towards the sound‚” Simpson told IFLScience.The feat is made possible thanks to the wet-tennis-ball-like shape of coral larvae‚ that use their fuzzy hair cells to achieve directed swimming. Once the team had established that sound was important in dictating that direction‚ they got to work seeing how science could use this understanding to help establish new reefs.      IFLScience · Sounds Of Coral Reef Animals“We are now using speakers to actually create these artificially healthy environments in terms of the soundscape‚ which call in the next generation of animals to give that reef and accelerated recovery‚” he explained. “So‚ we can call in the fish‚ we can call in the corals. And we're trying to use the soundscape to bring in the next generation that then can start to create the healthy reef that makes the sound itself.”It's a world-first approach for corals‚ having only been tested on experimental scales in Australia with a focus on fish communities. In Our Changing Planet: Restoring Our Reefs‚ Simpson teams up with Prof Peter Harrison (father of “coral IVF”) to persuade buckets of coral larvae to set up camp‚ and they’ll be returning to see how the new “recruits” are doing a year on. Excitingly‚ those that are established could be expected to start spawning by the age of three.It's no secret that corals and reefs have been suffering under environmental changes caused by the ongoing climate crisis‚ but as Simpson urges‚ there is light at the end of the tunnel if we can just get through the next few testing decades.Left to right: Prof Peter Harrison‚ Prof Steve Simpson‚ presenter Steve Backshall.Image credit: BBC Studios/Gemma Gilbride“Five years ago‚ any coral reef restoration that I was involved in‚ I had a sneaking suspicion that [we] were just prolonging the death of coral reefs‚ it was inevitable that we were going to lose them with climate change‚” he said. “The two things that have started to really get all of us excited are the fact that we're getting these methods‚ that are increasingly scalable‚ that we can work over much‚ much larger areas‚ and around the world with fairly low tech‚ but high output solutions‚ and also that we're seeing change in the data about climate change.” If we can save coral reefs‚ we can save anything.Prof Steve Simpson“We know that coral reefs are going to have a really rough next two or three decades‚ but there's a good chance that by the end of this century‚ it will be a better time than it is now for coral reefs… I think it's starting to feel like it's all hands to the pump while we've got this crisis‚ but it's going to be worth it in the long run if we can keep coral reefs alive now. And if we can save coral reefs‚ we can save anything.”Tune in to BBC One on 21 April‚ 6pm BST‚ to see Our Changing Planet: Restoring Our Reefs‚ or catch it on iPlayer.

Pro-Lifers Face 10.5 Years For Praying‚ Gaza Protestors&;#63; Less Than 3

A shocking but true side-by-side comparison was made by the group End Wokeness on X Monday evening. The account pointed out that there's been dozens of traffic stops and backups for Gaza protestors that have been allowed‚ while at the same time numerous pro-life individuals are stuck in jail‚ some facing up to 11 years in prison after praying outside of an abortion clinic. If this doesn’t show you who and what our nation values and prioritizes‚ I don’t know what will. Ever since Hamas terrorists attacked innocent Israelis last October‚ a group of protestors who likely don’t even know what they’re fighting for have been protesting by standing or sitting in front of traffic. Similar to how the climate warriors cement themselves to the middle of the street‚ many pro-Hamas individuals and groups park their social justice warrior booties in front of moving cars. Most recently‚ a group of Gaza war protestors shut down the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco‚ California and stopped traffic for around five hours on Monday. Their sign read “stop the world for Gaza” and they used other cars and chained themselves together to block travel lanes on the bridge. NBC Bay Area reported that the protest began around 7:30 a.m. and it wasn’t until after noon that cars were able to start moving again. This wasn't productive and just made everyone irritated and angry that they were late to work — like hours late. A similar demonstration was conducted in New York when Gaza war protestors blocked the Brooklyn Bridge‚ in Chicago when they obstructed traffic to O’Hare International Airport and at the expressway that led to the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport in Washington. From the San Francisco protest‚ 26 individuals were arrested and face charges of conspiracy as well as vehicle violations like false imprisonment for drivers who were trapped. Even if the individuals were charged with a felony for false imprisonment‚ it looks like they’d only be in jail for a maximum sentence of three years. It’s likely our justice system will let them off very easy since they have a tendency to favor leftists‚ even if they are breaking the law. One of these groups was allowed to block the Golden Gate Bridge today for 5 hours. The other group faces 11 years in prison for a &;quot;criminal conspiracy against civil rights&;quot; for praying in an abortion clinic. Realize where we are. pic.twitter.com/zqzpYKuhfe — End Wokeness (@EndWokeness) April 15‚ 2024 On the other hand‚ many pro-lifers are being held in jail for peacefully praying outside of an abortion clinic.  In January‚ six pro-lifers were found guilty of violating the FACE (Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances) Act after quietly praying‚ singing hymns and encouraging women to not abort their kids at a Tennessee abortion facility in 2021. Those activists now face up to 10.5 years in prison‚ depending on their sentencing results. If that wasn't enough‚ the DOJ has targeted and arrested pro-lifers for praying while at the same time‚ allowing pro-abort vandals who paint graffiti‚ throw eggs‚ and firebomb buildings to walk away without penalty. What’s frustrating is that our justice system isn’t being just. Those bridge protestors should have been dragged off the road immediately and not just stared at while they conducted their pointless plea for attention. And‚ those pro-lifers shouldn’t be going to jail for the next 10.5 years of their life for PRAYING for innocent babies. This is some twisted crap.

ABC Mocks ‘Partisan’ Mayorkas Impeachment as ‘All for Show’ While CBS Lobs Softballs

On Wednesday ahead of the impending impeachment trial of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas for his role in the Biden border crisis‚ ABC’s Good Morning America continued its wildly partisan dismissal of this entire episode while CBS Mornings lobbed softballs at him a network exclusive originally billed as a chance for him to sound competent on the issue of online child exploitation. NBC’s Today was actually the least objectionable of the three (aside from the fact it was only a 32-second partial segment) as Capitol Hill correspondent Ryan Nobles gave a sentence to each camp (click “expand”): GUTHRIE: Let’s talk about another item. The House impeached Homeland Security Secretary Mayorkas. The articles of impeachment — which are basically the charges — now go to the Senate for a trial‚ but what is expected to happen there&;#63; NOBLES: Yeah‚ that’s right. The Senate today is expected to swear in senators as jurors‚ but it is expected to be an incredibly short trial against Mayorkas. Republicans say that he ignored the law and created chaos at the border‚ but Democrats argue that this is nothing more than a political stunt. They’re planning to dismiss or table the trial as soon as this week. As they’ve been since the start of the impeachment push‚ ABC’s Good Morning America has led the way with snarky dismissals and partisan pontificating. Co-host and former Clinton tool George Stephanopoulos has been the ringleader. Wednesday was no except as he didn’t even ask a question of chief congressional correspondent Rachel Scott‚ but instead belly-ached about how “the partisan House impeachment of Homeland Secretary Mayorkas is heading now to the Senate‚ but it’s all for show now.” ABC’s George Stephanopoulos: “[T]he partisan House impeachment of Homeland Secretary Mayorkas is heading now to the Senate‚ but it’s all for show now.”@RachelVScott: “Yeah and this really could be over very quickly. Look‚ Republicans want a full trial. They impeached Secretary… pic.twitter.com/NMLgLBjPQb — Curtis Houck (@CurtisHouck) April 17‚ 2024 Also a liberal hack‚ Scott scoffed “this really could be over very quickly” even though “Republicans want a full trial” for Mayorkas’s “handling of the border‚ but it is Democrats who control the Senate.” Showing her political allegiance‚ Scott stated as though it were a fact that Democrats “point out there is no evidence of high crimes and misdemeanors‚ that this is all over a policy dispute and they will be looking to dismiss these charges very quickly.” Prior to the Mayorkas interview‚ CBS Mornings also had a partial and dry segment about the Mayorkas impeachment trial with co-host and Democratic donor Gayle King and congressional correspondent Nikole Killion (click “expand”): KING: Nikole‚ before you go‚ listen‚ I know it’s a busy day there because we’ve got the impeachment trial of Homeland Security secretary Alejandro Mayorkas‚ begins in the Senate which‚ by the way‚ the secretary of state [sic] has just arrived. We’re talking about another topic‚ but we’ll certainly get to that. So‚ what can we expect on that front&;#63; KILLION: Well‚ senators will be sworn in this afternoon for a trial. Tuesday‚ House impeachment managers walk the articles across the Capitol to the Senate. Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas was impeached by the House back in February. He is charged with refusal to comply with the law and breach of public trust for his handling of the U.S.-Mexico border. Senate Democrats want to dismiss this trial quickly‚ while most Republicans argue that it should be allowed to proceed. A DHS spokesperson has called the proceedings baseless. Mayorkas surfaced for the start of the second half-hour and‚ after nearly seven minutes letting him conveniently seem wholly concerned about U.S. national security in a joint interview with a Meta executive on online child exploitation. The remaining nearly three minutes (2:53) was split between his impeachment and the war in the Middle East (with Mayorkas offering a boilerplate answer giving equal weight to anti-Semitism and Islamophobia). Co-host Tony Dokoupil didn’t focus on debating the merits of the impeachment and instead asked him “what’s on the table‚ what’s being discussed” “to stop the flow of people over the border” (click “expand”): DOKOUPIL: Mr. Secretary‚ you’re here with us‚ but meanwhile in Washington there’s an effort to impeach you and it comes at the very same time that people are waiting on the Biden administration to issue some sort of an executive order to stop the flow of people over the border‚ maybe by changing the asylum laws. That’s the reporting anyway. What — what’s on the table‚ what’s being discussed‚ is that still even a possibility&;#63; MAYORKAS: So‚ a couple — a couple thoughts. First of all‚ as they work on impeachment‚ I work in advancing the missions of the Department of Homeland Security. That’s what I’ve done throughout this process. We need Congress to pass the bipartisan legislation that a group of senators worked on. That is the enduring solution. We cannot resource ourselves‚ we need Congress to do so. We cannot change a broken immigration system‚ only Congress can do that. KING: But — but how do you explain — DOKOUPIL: But there is no executive order‚ so you’re pulling it off the table&;#63; MAYORKAS: Oh‚ no. Not at all. You know‚ we — we — we explore options every single day. That’s the responsibility of good government. We are considering options. We have been throughout‚ but really‚ the enduring solution is legislation because executive actions invariably are challenged in the courts. Like the loyal liberal apparatchik she is‚ King praised Mayorkas for “continu[ing] to do your job” despite the impeachment charges in what must “feel surreal” and “like you have on gasoline underwear” with “a lot of incoming” from Republicans he’s simultaneously “negotiating with” as they try to remove him. “How do you balance that two‚ knowing that — how they feel about you and that they want you out‚” King wondered‚ to which Mayorkas twice said it’s “precisely why I focus on the work.” Gag. To see the relevant transcript from April 17‚ click “expand.” ABC’s Good Morning America April 17‚ 2024 7:11 a.m. Eastern GEORGE STEPHANOPOULOS: And‚ Rachel‚ the partisan House impeachment of Homeland Secretary Mayorkas is heading now to the Senate‚ but it’s all for show now.  [ON-SCREEN HEADLINE: New This Morning; House Sends Mayorkas Impeachment Articles to Senate; Republican Senators Demanding Full-Scale Trial for DHS Secretary] RACHEL SCOTT: Yeah and this really could be over very quickly. (....) 7:31 a.m. Eastern KING: We’re — we’re very glad to have you here. Nice to meet you‚ Antigone. HOMELAND SECURITY SECRETARY ALEJANDRO MAYORKAS: Thank you. KING: Especially for you‚ Secretary Mayorkas because‚ listen‚ you’re in the news‚ your ears must be burning because‚ even as we speak‚ they’re trying to impeach you on Capitol Hill. We’ll get to that in just a second. But‚ I’m wondering personally‚ does this feel surreal&;#63; Do you feel like you have on gasoline underwear&;#63; Cause you a lot of incoming — you must feel — or do you feel like you’re sitting on the hot seat&;#63; Cause‚ on one hand‚ you’re negotiating with Republicans. And then‚ on the other hand‚ they’re trying to impeach you. How do you balance that two‚ knowing that — how they feel about you and that they want you out&;#63; MAYORKAS: Gayle‚ that is precisely why I focus on the work. KING: Mmmmm. DOKOUPIL: Should we — MAYORKAS: That is precisely why I focus on the work. DOKOUPIL: — speaking of the broader mission separate from the border‚ we’ve got Israel and Iran now in a confrontation. I think a lot of people reasonably wonder whether what’s happening overseas may become a threat to the homeland. KING: Yeah‚ yes. DOKOUPIL: Is there an increased risk in America of some sort of attack tied to sympathies in the Middle East&;#63; KING: Yes. MAYORKAS: We have seen an increase in anti-Semitism. We have seen an increase in Islamaphobia following the October 7 terrorist attacks. There is no question‚ as Director Wray of the FBI and I have expressed publicly‚ we are in a heightened threat environment and what we worry about is an increase in what we call domestic violent extremism — the radicalization of individuals already here‚ driven to violence based on an ideology of hate. DOKOUPIL: Credible threats right now as we speak&;#63; MAYORKAS: We — I have no known credible threats at this time‚ but we are in a heightened threat environment. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NBC’s Today April 17‚ 2024 7:14 a.m. Eastern [ON-SCREEN HEADLINE: Mayorkas Impeachment Heads to Senate] SAVANNAH GUTHRIE: Let’s talk about another item. BREAKING: NPR Dissenter Uri Berliner Resigns After Suspension‚ Attacks

Shortly before 11 am on Wednesday‚ NPR senior business editor Uri Berliner resigned at about the time his suspension without pay was going to end. The most important part was where he took on woke new NPR CEO Katherine Maher: &;quot;I cannot work in a newsroom where I am disparaged by a new CEO whose divisive views confirm the very problems at NPR I cite in my essay at The Free Press.&;quot; Maher's pom-pom memo to NPR staff (posted publicly on NPR.org) claimed Berliner (who wasn't named) was attacking NPR staff not for what they report‚ but &;quot;who they are.&;quot; My resignation letter to NPR CEO @krmaher pic.twitter.com/0hafVbcZAK — Uri Berliner (@uberliner) April 17‚ 2024 While many of us thought Berliner's days were numbered when his essay was posted‚ it would be a test of NPR's intolerance to see if Berliner could remain. He could not.  Earlier on Twitter/X‚ Berliner reposted this from the New York Times media reporter: scoop: NPR's top editor said in a meeting with the new CEO and show hosts Wednesday that she didn't want to make Uri Berliner a &;quot;martyr.&;quot;https://t.co/p6iJBXmVkL We're told that everyone at the network is mindful of the disaster created by Juan Williams' firing in 2010. — Ben Mullin (@BenMullin) April 11‚ 2024 &;quot;Martyr&;quot; is too strong a word‚ but it is an exhibit of their complete unwillingness to listen to a critique on fairness and balance and groupthink and wokeness. It begs for a congressional hearing with Berliner and with Maher‚ maybe shoulder to shoulder.  And Berliner reposted this from former Bush staffer Peter Wehner: People on the right who are praising NPR's Uri Berliner for his courage - and he is courageous to speak out - are in many cases the same people who have been too intimidated/cowardly to speak out against MAGA and the moral depravity of Donald Trump. Just sayin'. — Peter Wehner (@Peter_Wehner) April 10‚ 2024 Berliner voted against Trump twice. But voting for Democrats isn't enough in this taxpayer-funded sandbox for leftists. You have to be in sync with all the leftist lingo and the interest groups that push it‚ from GLAAD to CAIR.

Liberals rage over Travis Kelce liking Sage Steele photos with Trump‚ Candace Owens‚ and more at UFC event

NFL player and reigning Super Bowl champion Travis Kelce may have exercised too much freedom on social media for the left-wing populace to handle.Kelce‚ who has become a media darling for his relationship with Taylor Swift and his promotion of Pfizer vaccines‚ went too far according to many when he liked an Instagram photo.The photo was posted by former ESPN anchor Sage Steele‚ who has made appearances in conservative circles since leaving the network. Still‚ Steele landed on Bill Maher's network for her new podcast.&;quot;What. A. Night. After years of covering [UFC] at ESPN‚ I FINALLY got to see it live &; in person. Game changer. This elicited many strong reactions from social media users.&;quot;Why is travis kelce following a trump supporter + just generally conservative a**hole‚&;quot; an X user‚ who referred to herself as a &;quot;Barbie&;quot; asked. why is travis kelce following a trump supporter + just generally conservative asshole — (@) &;quot;Travis Kelce can eat s**t for all I care. Did Caitlin Clark pander to the woke crowd in her 'SNL' appearance&;#63;

Like Tiger Woods‚ who made history over the weekend by making his 24th consecutive cut in the Masters tournament‚ Iowa Hawkeyes’ superstar Caitlin Clark will have her own chance at making history when she joins the WNBA. “She has the chance to be the greatest women’s basketball player of all time‚” says Jason Whitlock‚ who’s a huge Clark fan. But there’s one problem: “The WNBA establishment – a group of mostly angry lesbians – hate Caitlin Clark.” And it’s probably because “Caitlin Clark is the greatest force in sports” despite being “a white girl from Iowa‚” says Jason. “She’s made me and others care about women’s basketball.” “Many of her peers hate her out of sheer jealousy; many in corporate media hate her because of their racial idolatry; and a good percentage of fans don't like her for the exact same reason as the corporate media – Caitlin Clark is a true trailblazer‚” he explains. However‚ there’s one thing that “[raises] a caution flag” for Jason – and that is Clark’s recent appearance on &;quot;Saturday Night Live.&;quot; On the episode‚ Clark “rambled on about Sheryl Swoopes‚ Cynthia Cooper‚ Dawn Staley‚ Lisa Leslie‚ and Maya Moore and the WNBA legends she owes a debt to‚” says Jason‚ who’s put off by the fact that she “only named black WNBA players.” “Maybe all of her hoops heroes were black women‚” he says. “Or maybe she was pandering.” “The WNBA is as woke a sports league as there is on the planet‚ [and] Caitlin Clark is going to be under immense pressure to cosign whatever bogus narrative the WNBA promotes in support of the Democratic party and the BLM-LGBTQ alphabet mafia.” Jason predicts that Clark “will be asked to pretend the WNBA players are underpaid because of systemic sexism. She’ll be asked to take a knee during the National Anthem if some random black criminal gets saucy with the police and gets capped.” “Will Caitlin Clark fold and become the typical angry‚ feminist athlete&;#63;” he asks. Clark donning a Nike jacket on her &;quot;SNL&;quot; segment is “our first clue‚” according to Jason. DA Bragg threatens Trump with jail time for allegedly violating judge's gag order‚ files contempt motion

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg (D) filed a contempt motion against Donald Trump (R) on Monday‚ alleging that the former president violated the judge's gag order‚ the Daily Caller News Foundation reported.Last year‚ Bragg charged Trump with 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in an alleged attempt to cover up payments made to Stormy Daniels‚ a porn star‚ to keep quiet about an affair. Michael Cohen‚ Trump's former attorney‚ claims that he made a $130‚000 payment to Daniels at Trump's request. The former president has pleaded not guilty to all charges and denied the affair allegations.Acting Justice Juan Merchan previously placed a gag order against Trump that prohibits him from making public statements about anyone involved in the case‚ including family members. Trump's legal team has made multiple attempts to have Merchan recused from the case over alleged &;quot;actual conflict&;quot; and &;quot;unacceptable appearance of impropriety.&;quot; Merchan's daughter &;quot;has a direct financial interest in these proceedings by virtue of her ownership stake and leadership role&;quot; at a progressive political consulting firm‚ Trump's attorneys claimed.According to Bragg‚ the former president violated the judge's gag order by posting several statements on Truth Social‚ one of which referred to &;quot;two sleazebags.&;quot; The prosecution claimed the post referred to potential witnesses Daniels and Cohen. In a Monday court filing‚ Bragg urged the judge to tell Trump he could face jail time for violating the gag order. He requested that Trump be held in contempt for the recent social media posts.&;quot;This Court should again admonish defendant to comply with his obligations under the order‚&;quot; Bragg wrote. &;quot;And finally‚ this Court should warn defendant that future violations of the Court's restrictions on his extrajudicial statements can be punished not only with additional fines‚ but also with a term of incarceration of up to thirty days.&;quot;&;quot;It is absolutely critical that defendant immediately halt any conduct that would violate the April 1 order's narrow restrictions to protect the integrity of the ongoing trial‚&;quot; the filing continued. &;quot;A finding of criminal contempt‚ imposition of sanctions‚ and stark warnings from this Court are the minimum remedies necessary to achieve this indispensable objective.&;quot;&;quot;This Court should now hold defendant in criminal contempt for willfully disobeying a lawful mandate‚&;quot; Bragg's filing added. &;quot;Defendant is not above the law‚ and he cannot simply disregard judicial orders that upset him.&;quot;Like Blaze News&;#63; Bypass the censors‚ sign up for our newsletters‚ and get stories like this direct to your inbox. 'Like the old Soviet Union': Socialist shutdown of National Conservatism event featuring Orb&;aacute;n and Farage backfires

Police stormed the National Conservatism conference in Brussels Tuesday and barricaded the doors on the orders of a leftist mayor. The clampdown was demanded and celebrated by Antifa and other extremists who sought to make clear to the world leaders‚ lawmakers‚ and intellectuals inside that they were not welcome to openly discuss the conservation of their respective nation-states. The shutdown backfired greatly‚ not only confirming attendees' suspicions that leftists are animated by totalitarian energies and that post-national liberals will become increasingly authoritarian as their influence wanes‚ but causing a significant international stir. In the face of immense backlash over the socialist clampdown on free speech‚ Belgium's supreme administrative court and the Belgian prime minister intervened in the conservatives' favor. Prime Minister Alexander De Croo noted on X‚ &;quot;What happened at the Claridge today is unacceptable. Municipal autonomy is a cornerstone of our democracy but can never overrule the Belgian constitution guaranteeing the freedom of speech and peaceful assembly since 1830. Banning political meetings is unconstitutional. Full stop.&;quot; Meanwhile‚ foreign leaders — including the British and Italian prime ministers — and multitudes of critics worldwide blasted the attempt to thwart the efforts of patriots to prevent their respective nations from becoming pseudo-states like Belgium. Times of London columnist Melanie Phillips‚ who took the stage upon the defiant resumption of the event Wednesday‚ summarized the scandal thusly: &;quot;I feel a bit of history has been made here in the last day or so. What's happened here at this conference is that this process of silencing us has been dramatized in such a spectacular fashion that even the Belgian prime minister has denounced it along with [Prime Minister] Rishi Sunak in Britain‚ various German politicians‚ and a chorus of condemnation condemnation across the board and across continents.&;quot; &;quot;Talk about an own-goal‚&;quot; continued Phillips. &;quot;At a stroke‚ ideological enemies have shown that it is in fact the left that is intolerant and oppressive and a threat to democracy and a dictatorial risk to freedom and national cosnervativism is now the resistance.&;quot; &;quot;At a stroke‚ our ideological enemies have shown that it is‚ in fact‚ the Left that is intolerant and oppressive and a threat to democracy and a dictatorial risk to freedom. And National Conservatism is now the resistance.&;quot;\n-@MelanieLatest #NatConBrussels2 — (@) Background The NatCon conference is a project of the Edmund Burke Foundation and is chaired by Israeli-American philosopher Yoram Hazony. The project defines &;quot;National Conservatism&;quot; as &;quot;a movement of public figures‚ journalists‚ scholars‚ and students who understand that the past and future of conservatism are inextricably tied to the idea of the nation‚ to the principle of national independence‚ and to the revival of the unique national traditions that alone have the power to bind a people together and bring about their flourishing.&;quot; Past conferences have taken place across what was once regarded as the free world‚ in cities such as Orlando‚ Washington‚ D.C.‚ London‚ and Rome. Past guests and speakers included Republican Sens. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio)‚ Josh Hawley (Mo.) and Marco Rubio (Fla.); Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis; elements of Blaze Media; and a host of international leaders of various political stripes. This year‚ the conference — which counts former British Home Secretary Suella Braverman‚ Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orb&;aacute;n‚ Catholic Cardinal Gerhard M&;uuml;ller‚ Brexiteer Nigel Farage‚ and French politician Eric Zemmour among its speakers — had difficulty finding a venue in Brussels hosted by someone with the requisite intestinal fortitude to support free speech. Politico reported that the conference‚ this year focused on the theme of &;quot;Preserving the Nation-State in Europe‚&;quot; initially secured the Concert Noble‚ but the host venue pulled out just days ahead of the conference. Frank F&;uuml;redi‚ the executive director of MCC Brussels‚ the think tank helping organize the event‚ said‚ &;quot;What has happened in these last few days represents nothing less than a crisis for free speech and political expression for all of Europe.&;quot; According to the Brussels Times‚ communists and other radicals pressured the venue to axe the event to preclude people from discussing and hearing about the fallout of mass migration‚ climate alarmism‚ LGBT imperialism‚ and the erosion of the nation-state. Another venue caved to leftist pressure‚ canceling the conference's booking just 20 hours before the event was set to begin‚ prompting organizers to accuse Brussels' socialist mayor‚ Philippe Close‚ of trying to cancel the event for ideological reasons. Neighboring municipalities also made clear that the conference would not be welcome. The NatCon conference ultimately found a venue in the Claridge events hall reportedly run by a Tunisian man &;quot;who believes in free speech and who did not surrender to the tremendous political pressure to cancel a conservative conference.&;quot; Extra to receiving a standing ovation Wednesday‚ the host was personally thanked by Orb&;aacute;n. Farage similarly lauded the Tunisian for standing up to the &;quot;bullyboys.&;quot; The socialist reflex While the conference overcame the initial cancellation efforts‚ it still had to deal with the local authorities. Emir Kir‚ the socialist mayor of the Brussels suburb Saint-Josse-ten-Noode‚ announced Tuesday morning that he had &;quot;issued an order from the Mayor to ban the 'National Conservatism Conference' event to guarantee public safety. In Etterbeek‚ Brussels City and Saint-Josse‚ the far-right is not welcome.&;quot; Kir previously indicated he would &;quot;immediately take measures to ban&;quot; the event. Police dutifully stormed the event and sealed the entrances‚ ensuring attendees could not enter. Here is the police presence outside not letting anybody in and if we leave not letting anybody back in&;#33; Insane&;#33; — (@) Police enter venue of Nat Con conference in Brussels to serve a request to close down event. Farage on stage — (@) Politico indicated that police informed organizers the event was being shut down hours before Nigel Farage's keynote speech. &;quot;It's really something out of a tin-pot dictatorship&;quot; F&;uuml;redi told Politico. &;quot;They're trying to use a technical reason to make a political point. They told the owner that if it doesn't get shut down they're gonna cut the electricity.&;quot; Farage noted that the socialist mayor's efforts to shut down conservative speech and appease the leftist mob were &;quot;like the old Soviet union. No alternative view allowed.&;quot; A second wave of officers came by at 12:45 p.m. to hand Anthony Gilland‚ the event's local organizer‚ the official shutdown order. &;quot;One of the reasons that we've been given‚ it's not the only reason‚ is that there will be a counterprotest this afternoon around about 5 p.m. and the idea is that the police are not able to protect free speech at this event‚&;quot; said Gilland. An apparent English translation of the shutdown order claims the the event &;quot;is likely to cause a serious disturbance of the public peace due to its provocative and discriminatory nature&;quot; and that some of the attendees &;quot;are reputed to be traditionalists‚ homophobes‚ and disrespectful of human rights and minorities; we can also cite an author of controversial works on political Islam.&;quot; Hazony announced the event would be &;quot;gradually&;quot; wound down Tuesday. NatCon organiser Yoram Hazony announcing the conference would be closed gradually... Nigel Farage and Suella Braverman allowed to speak — (@) The backlash and conservative triumph Orb&;aacute;n said in a statement‚ &;quot;The Belgian police decided to shut down the @NatConTalk conference in #Brussels‚ just two hours after it started. I guess they couldn't take free speech any longer. The last time they wanted to silence me with the police was when the Communists set them on me in '88. We didn't give up then and we will not give up this time either&;#33;&;quot; The Guardian reported that Farage told those gathered outside the venue‚ &;quot;I've experienced cancel culture personally here … but what has happened in there on the stage with global media‚ we can see that legally held opinions from people who are going to win national elections is not longer acceptable here in Brussels‚ the home of globalism.&;quot; &;quot;This is the complete old communist style where if you don't agree with me‚ you've got to be banned‚ you've got to be shut down‚&;quot; added Farage‚ who was de-banked last year over his political views. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni condemned the shutdown‚ saying‚ &;quot;What is happening in Brussels leaves us in disbelief and dismay. The mayor of one of the Belgian capital's municipalities has banned a conference‚ which is scheduled to be attended by heads of government‚ national and European parliamentarians.&;quot; &;quot;Following the order‚ police physically prevented guests and speakers from entering the conference‚&;quot; continued Meloni. &;quot;I immediately asked Prime Minister Alexander De Croo of Belgium to follow up on what was happening‚ and I thank him for his timely and clear stance against the hateful oppression of freedom of expression taking place in Brussels.&;quot; A spokesman for British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said‚ &;quot;Speaking more broadly to the principle of such events‚ he is very clear that canceling events or preventing attendance and no-platforming speakers is damaging to free speech and to democracy as a result.&;quot; British parliamentarian and former Home Secretary Suella Braverman tweeted‚ &;quot;It's laughable that the Brussels thought police were sent out to shut down a conference of democratically elected politicians representing the views of millions of people. They clearly didn't want to hear about how we can secure our borders &; protect our citizens.&;quot; Proponents of the conference challenged the mayoral order with the help of the Christian advocacy group ADF International. Belgium's supreme administrative court said in an emergency session Tuesday that the conference could resume. ADF International executive director Paul Coleman said in a statement‚ &;quot;While common sense and justice have prevailed‚ what happened yesterday is a dark mark on European democracy. No official should have the power to shut down free and peaceful assembly merely because he disagrees with what is being said.&;quot; Farage posted a video Wednesday morning wherein he gleefully noted he was on his way to the conference. &;quot;It's still happening&;#33;&;quot; said Farage‚ who elsewhere penned an editorial suggesting the scandalous shutdown proved Brexit was a good call for Britons. &;quot;The local mayor has had his comeuppance. It's going to be a full house‚ a load of fun. It's a victory for free speech.&;quot; Nigel Farage | Return of the Nation State | NatCon Brussels 2 youtu.be Like Blaze News&;#63; Bypass the censors‚ sign up for our newsletters‚ and get stories like this direct to your inbox. ‘Impossible’ Doom speedrun record finally beaten after 26 years

Doom speedruns resemble a kind of virtual extreme sports‚ seemingly impossible feats of gaming dexterity that require snap reflexes‚ in-depth coding and programming knowledge‚ and limitless patience. The defining 1993 FPS game from id Software‚ over its 30-year-plus lifespan‚ Doom has been a showcase for some of the greatest videogaming achievements in history. Speedruns‚ however‚ are telescopic - the longer a game exists‚ the more optimized it becomes‚ and the less often new records are set. The oldest Doom record in the world‚ dating back 26 years‚ seemed impossible to defeat. Nevertheless‚ more than a quarter of a century later‚ one intrepid player has set a new‚ all-time best.
