Prince Harry Renounces His U.K. Residency

Prince Harry has renounced his U.K. residency and declared in official records that his “new country/state” is now the United States. Filings published by Companies House read that‚ “Prince Henry Charles Albert David Duke of Sussex” recorded that his “New Country/State Usually Resident” is now the U.S.‚ according to documents obtained by the Daily Mail. The Duke of Sussex previously recorded his place of residency as United Kingdom‚ but that has changed after he and his wife Meghan Markle opted to step down from their royal roles in 2020 and eventually move to Southern California where they raise their two kids‚ Prince Archie‚ 4‚ and Princess Lilibet‚ 2. The paperwork was filed for the royal’s travel with Travalyst‚ a sustainable travel organization the duke founded in 2019‚ the New York Post noted. When he founded the organization‚ his original home was listed as the U.K.‚ the Post noted.   View this post on Instagram   A post shared by Page Six (@pagesix) At the group’s annual general meeting on Wednesday‚ the duke made his first public comments since his sister-in-law Kate Middleton shared the shocking announcement on March 22 that she’d been diagnosed with cancer after undergoing “major abdominal surgery” in January. “Travel and tourism rely on destinations‚ held together by communities‚ without which we have nowhere to travel to‚” the duke said during his remarks‚ the Post noted. “Communities are the beating heart of travel‚ and we must do better by the people who are the custodians of the places we visit‚” he added. CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP In a 2022 interview with the “Today” show‚ Prince Harry talked about moving to the U.S. and said‚ “Home for me‚ now‚ for the time being‚ is in the States.” “And it really feels that way as well‚” he added. “We’ve been welcomed with open arms and have got such a great community up in Santa Barbara.” Prince Harry and Markle are definitely not favorite royals with the U.K. population‚ with Middleton recently being named the most popular royal in the United Kingdom‚ surpassing her husband Prince William. A British YouGov poll — taken between February and April — shows that at the start of February‚ the Prince of Wales led the rest of the royals as the most favored member of the family‚ with 77%‚ followed by the Princess of Wales with 74%. However‚ those numbers switched by the start of April after Middleton’s cancer diagnosis announcement. Princess Kate now leads the pack with 76%‚ followed by her royal husband with 73%‚ the poll showed. Prince Harry and Markle are mentioned much further down the poll as some of the least favored royals‚ with the Duke of Sussex getting 31% favorability‚ beating out his wife‚ the Duchess of Sussex‚ with only 26% of the vote.

Dozens Of NPR Employees Write Letter Proving Uri Berliner Was Right About Everything

Dozens of National Public Radio (NPR) employees signed on to a letter suggesting that their now-former senior business editor Uri Berliner was spot on in his assessment of the liberal bias that has taken over the network. New York Times media reporter Ben Mullin shared screenshots of the letter‚ addressed to CEO Katherine Maher and Editor in Chief Edith Chapin‚ which claimed that Berliner’s essay in The Free Press had left many of them feeling as though they’d been personally attacked. “About 50 NPR employees sign a letter to CEO Katherine Maher and top editor Edith Chapin calling for‚ among other things‚ a public rebuke of the ‘factual inaccuracies and elisions’ in Uri Berliner’s Free Press essay‚” Mullin’s caption read. new: About 50 NPR employees sign a letter to CEO Katherine Maher and top editor Edith Chapin calling for‚ among other things‚ a public rebuke of the “factual inaccuracies and elisions” in Uri Berliner’s Free Press essay. pic.twitter.com/jXc1R4J0G3 — Ben Mullin (@BenMullin) April 17‚ 2024 “We’re writing to urge stronger support for staff who have had their journalistic expertise called into question by one of their own in a public forum‚” the letter read. “We also urge more transparency regarding the consequences of making unauthorized public comments that seek to change NPR’s editorial direction.” The letter went on to say that while both Chapin and Maher had shared their objections to Berliner’s claims — namely that the outlet been wholly disinterested in presenting stories that might hurt President Joe Biden or help former President Donald Trump — the employees were concerned that their efforts to spur policy changes through Diversity‚ Equity‚ and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives were being undermined by Berliner’s public comments. “Staff‚ many from marginalized backgrounds‚ have pushed for internal policy changes through mechanisms like the DEI accountability committee‚ sharing of affinity group guidelines‚ and an ad-hoc content review group‚” they wrote‚ complaining that Berliner was getting more attention and apparent change from a short essay than they had after years of work. CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP Their concern on that point‚ they said‚ was that others within the network might get the idea that a pointed editorial was more effective at forcing change than going through proper channels. They also complained that Berliner’s essay had “made their jobs harder” and called on Maher and Chapin to clearly “offer public support and defense of those individuals whose work was directly undermined by the opinion piece.”

Photos Show Ilhan Omar’s Daughter Arrested For Refusing To Leave Anti-Israel Encampment At Columbia University

The daughter of Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MI)‚ Isra Hirsi‚ appears to have been arrested at Columbia University after she was suspended from Barnard College for refusing to leave the anti-Israel encampment‚ according to photos posted to X. Photos posted to X show Hirsi being arrested by several NYPD officers. The same user‚ who claims to be affiliated with Barnard‚ posted pictures of several protesters being removed by the New York Police Department‚ as well as the tents they erected being removed.  It felt really really horrific to be standing by and watching students‚ so so many of whom I knew‚ being arrested. Here's Isra Hirsi. pic.twitter.com/GuhjJeN15w — Shayoni Mitra (@ShayoniMitra) April 18‚ 2024 According to the New York Post‚ over 100 students were arrested at the campus encampment on Thursday. Hirsi announced that she was suspended from Columbia’s partner school‚ Barnard College for participating in the protest. “I’m an organizer with CU Apartheid Divest @ColumbiaSJP‚ in my 3 years at @BarnardCollege i have never been reprimanded or received any disciplinary warnings‚” Hirsi tweeted. “I just received notice that i am 1 of 3 students suspended for standing in solidarity with Palestinians facing a genocide.” In a follow-up tweet‚ Hirsi admitted that she took part in the “Gaza Solidarity Encampment‚” which consists of protesters with tents occupying part of the university’s campus‚ a violation of school rules. “Those of us in Gaza Solidarity Encampment will not be intimidated‚” Hirsi said. “We will stand resolute until our demands are met. our demands include divestment from companies complicit in genocide‚ transparency of @Columbia’s investments and FULL amnesty for all students facing repression.” Barnard College released a statement confirming that students were suspended and more will be if they refuse to leave. “This morning‚ April 18‚ we started to place identified Barnard students remaining in the encampment on interim suspension‚ and we will continue to do so‚” the statement by the college’s senior staff said. “We have temporarily restricted access to certain outdoor spaces on our campus.”

KJP Defends Biden’s ‘Dubious’ Cannibals Story: ‘It Was A Really Proud Moment For Him’

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre defended President Joe Biden after he suggested to voters in Pennsylvania that his Uncle Bosie had been eaten by cannibals in New Guinea after his plane was “shot down” in the Pacific during World War II. Jean-Pierre addressed the eyebrow-raising story during a press gaggle on Air Force One while en route to Philadelphia‚ claiming that the president was very proud of his uncle. AUDIO: Karine Jean-Pierre defends Biden's dubious story about his &;quot;Uncle Bosie&;quot; being eaten by &;quot;cannibals&;quot; in New Guinea: &;quot; It was a really proud moment for him&;quot; pic.twitter.com/mS5lc5dxX7 — RNC Research (@RNCResearch) April 18‚ 2024 The conversation began with a reporter jokingly asking Jean-Pierre whether there was a “cannibal tab” in the binder she carried to press briefings‚ prompting a laugh. “There’s no cannibal tab‚ what are you talking about&;#63;” she joked‚ adding‚ “Is that what you’re asking about&;#63;” When the reporter confirmed that was his question‚ she continued‚ “You saw the president‚ he was incredibly proud of his uncle’s service in uniform. You saw him at the war memorial‚ it was incredibly emotional and important to him.” She went on to repeat part of the story‚ saying that Biden’s uncle had “lost his life after the military aircraft he was on crashed in the Pacific Ocean off – near New Guinea” and pivoting quickly to attack Trump‚ saying that Biden didn’t believe service members were “suckers or losers.” CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP When reporters pressed her about the veracity of the story‚ Jean-Pierre said that she had nothing to add other than the fact that “it was a really proud moment for him.” The Pentagon’s account differs greatly from Biden’s‚ however: For unknown reasons‚ this plane was forced to ditch in the ocean off the north coast of New Guinea. Both engines failed at low altitude‚ and the aircraft’s nose hit the water hard. Three men failed to emerge from the sinking wreck and were lost in the crash. One crew member survived and was rescued by a passing barge. An aerial search the next day found no trace of the missing aircraft or the lost crew members. Biden has claimed that the plane his uncle was on was “shot down” and that “the government went back when I went down there and they checked and found some parts of the plane.”

Foreign National Convicted Of Raping‚ Torturing‚ And Killing His Cat

WARNING: This story contains graphic descriptions of extremely heinous criminal acts committed against an animal. A teenage foreign national in New Jersey pled guilty this month to what one animal rights activist said was the “worst” case of animal cruelty she had ever seen in her 35 years of working to protect animals. Bani J. Mezquititla‚ 19‚ pled guilty in Monmouth County Superior Court to two counts of animal cruelty‚ including Animal Cruelty by Tormenting‚ Torturing‚ or Unnecessarily or Cruelly Abusing a Living Animal Resulting in its Death‚ and Animal Cruelty by Using or Causing or Procuring the Use of an Animal or Creature in Any Kind of Sexual Manner‚ both third-degree crimes‚ according to the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) told The Daily Wire that the agency is involved in “investigating the case” to determine next steps regarding potential action from its Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) division. The Asbury Park Press reported that Superior Court Judge Chad N. Cagan told Mezquititla that he faces deportation because of the criminal conviction. Mezquititla kept his back to the courtroom gallery while admitting that he began raping his female cat from December 2022 until February 2023‚ the report said. The Asbury Park Police Department launched its criminal investigation after Mezquititla’s roommate turned him in after Mezquititla showed her images of the cat being tortured and told her that he threw the cat out the window. Mezquititla confessed to investigators that he pleasured himself in front of the cat before escalating the abuse to raping the cat with sharp objects and later raping using his genitals‚ according to a report from the Asbury Park Patch. He also ejaculated inside the cat‚ the report said. The animal was seriously injured‚ including “both vaginally and rectally‚” from the raping‚ the report said. When he was first arrested‚ law enforcement asked him if he had ever had sexual contact with the animal‚ to which he allegedly laughed and said: “No‚ I’m not a psycho.” CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP Law enforcement said that he repeatedly tortured the animal by creating a pulley device that he used to strangle the cat. “He restrained her during the torture by binding her paws behind her back with miniature handcuffs‚” the Asbury Park Press report said. “He also cut off her tongue and part of her jaw while she was still alive and took photographs and video of some of the torture.” The videos showed the animal desperately gasping for air‚ shaking‚ and twitching. A prosecutor on the case said‚ “You can see the cat struggling for its life and in the same picture you can see him smirking.” Janine Motta‚ director of the Animal Protection League of New Jersey‚ said that this was “the worst [case] I’ve seen.” Mezquititla was sentenced to the maximum of five years in prison for each charge‚ but as part of the plea agreement‚ prosecutors will recommend that the sentences are served concurrently‚ meaning that he would only serve a maximum of five years instead of 10. He is also permanently banned from owning any animals.

Juror Selected For Trump Trial Dismissed After It’s Revealed He Was Arrested For Tearing Down Right-Leaning Posters

Jury selection for former President Donald Trump’s New York hush-money trial hit more roadblocks on Thursday when two jurors were dismissed after being sworn in on Tuesday‚ including one who had previously been arrested for tearing down Right-leaning political posters. Judge Juan Merchan excused juror #4 after a prosecutor from Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office said the man had been arrested for ripping down “political posters that were on the Right‚” Fox News reported. Juror #4’s dismissal came just after another juror — juror #2 — was excused by Merchan following her admission that she could no longer be impartial. “I definitely have concerns. I don’t think I can be fair‚” she said‚ adding that “outside influence” would “interfere” with her judgment. The dismissals of jurors #4 and #2 brought the total of those seated down to five‚ but shortly after they were let go‚ more jurors were sworn in‚ bringing the total to 12‚ according to the New York Post. Five more jurors must be selected as alternates before the trial can move forward. Thursday marks the third day of the hush-money trial‚ which is the first criminal trial against a former U.S. president. Judge Merchan said jury selection will continue on Friday and he hopes that opening statements will kick off at the beginning of next week. Dozens of prospective jurors were dismissed on Monday after they said it would be difficult for them to remain impartial throughout the trial. Trump‚ who is being charged with 34 counts of falsifying business records to make alleged hush money payments to porn actress Stormy Daniels‚ has raged against his prosecution‚ calling it “a political persecution” and an “assault on America.” Trump was hit with a gag order by Judge Merchan last month‚ and Bragg’s office filed a motion on Tuesday‚ suggesting Trump be thrown in jail for 30 days if he violates the gag order. Merchan’s order prohibits Trump from talking about witnesses‚ jurors‚ court staff‚ and prosecutors with the exception of Bragg‚ who holds an elected office. The gag order was also recently expanded to prevent Trump from talking about the family members of those involved in the case. CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP Bragg’s office alleged that Trump had already violated the order multiple times with his posts on social media.

‘White‚ Male‚ Westernized’: NPR President Said She Opposed Wikipedia’s ‘Free And Open’ Mission

‘White‚ Male‚ Westernized’: NPR President Said She Opposed Wikipedia’s ‘Free And Open’ Mission

NPR’s president and CEO said she abandoned the idea of a “free and open” internet as the mission of Wikipedia‚ which she used to lead‚ because it is a “white‚ male‚ Westernized construct.” In a newly resurfaced video clip‚ Katherine Maher‚ who took over as NPR’s chief executive in January says she found Wikpedia’s “free and open” ethos “inherently limited.” The clip was posted to X by Christopher Rufo‚ senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute. Maher served as chief executive at the Wikimedia Foundation‚ the nonprofit that operates Wikipedia‚ from 2019 to 2021. “I have come to the opinion and the perspective that ‘free and open’ was a way of looking at the world that was inherently limited relative to what we were trying to achieve‚” Maher says in the clip. EXCLUSIVE: Katherine Maher says that she abandoned a &;quot;free and open&;quot; internet as the mission of Wikipedia‚ because those principles recapitulated a &;quot;white male Westernized construct&;quot; and &;quot;did not end up living into the intentionality of what openness can be.&;quot; pic.twitter.com/Ved9mgGvJH — Christopher F. Rufo ⚔️ (@realchrisrufo) April 18‚ 2024 EXCLUSIVE: Katherine Maher doesn't just want to &;quot;stamp out bad information&;quot; on the internet. She wants to replace it with &;quot;good information&;quot;—i.e.‚ left-wing narratives—and force the public to &;quot;sit within that good information&;quot; as &;quot;a collective.&;quot; Big Sister has arrived. pic.twitter.com/7kfq8VYHfj — Christopher F. Rufo ⚔️ (@realchrisrufo) April 18‚ 2024 EXCLUSIVE: Katherine Maher says the &;quot;the number one challenge&;quot; in her fight against disinformation is &;quot;the First Amendment in the United States‚&;quot; which makes it &;quot;a little bit tricky&;quot; to censor &;quot;bad information&;quot; and &;quot;the influence peddlers&;quot; who spread it. NPR's censor-in-chief. pic.twitter.com/0vY6hIpbmO — Christopher F. Rufo ⚔️ (@realchrisrufo) April 17‚ 2024 “‘Free and open’ has the best of intentionality‚ but in the end what ‘free and open’ often ended up doing‚ and particularly in the case of Wikipedia‚ was recapitulating many of the same power structures and dynamics that exist offline‚ prior to the advent of the internet‚” Maher said. One of the problems with Wikipedia is the way it relies on a “written tradition” and “reliable sources‚” Maher said. “You see the exclusion of communities‚ of languages because of the ways in which Wikipedia is based on reliable sources. The idea of a written tradition‚ which is particular to some cultures and not to others‚” the former Wikimedia CEO said. “The ways in which we ascribe notability often really comes from sort of this white‚ male‚ Westernized construct around who matters in societies and who is elevated and whose voices. And so some of these ideas of sort of this radical openness really did not end up living into the intentionality of what openness can be‚” she said. X owner Elon Musk responded to the clip‚ posting‚ “That’s literally the point of Wikipedia.” Maher has recently come under fire from conservatives after a former NPR editor blew the whistle on the outlet’s liberal bias. Former editor Uri Berliner resigned Wednesday after NPR suspended him. In the wake of the NPR editor’s accusations‚ a slew of since-deleted tweets and previous statements from Maher have surfaced‚ adding fuel to the outrage. In another clip posted by Rufo‚ Maher says she is interested in how we can “immerse ourself in good information‚” not just “stamp out bad information.” In yet another clip‚ Maher says the “number one challenge” for her in fighting disinformation is the First Amendment‚ which she calls a “fairly robust protection of rights.” “It also means that it is a little bit tricky to really address some of the real challenges of where does bad information come from‚” she said. She has been accused of expressing explicitly biased views in her previous tweets. In 2018‚ Maher posted‚ “Donald Trump is a racist.” In 2020 she wrote‚ “I mean‚ sure‚ looting is counterproductive. But it’s hard to be mad about protests not prioritizing the private property of a system of oppression founded on treating people’s ancestors as private property.”

Post-Strike Hollywood Goes Into Panic Mode (And Rightly So)

The studio behind Oscar-winning movies like “Green Book‚” “Spotlight” and “An Inconvenient Truth” has gone the way of the fax machine and pager. Netflix is also getting out of the auteur business. Harper’s Magazine declared it’s not a matter of if‚ but when Hollywood ceases to exist‚ at least in its current form. Yes‚ Tinsel Town is in panic mode‚ and understandably so. And that doesn’t include the fallout from last year’s dueling strikes‚ the rise of AI and audiences rejecting some of the industry’s once-bulletproof franchises (“Indiana Jones‚” “The Matrix‚” “The Marvels”) Let’s start with Participant‚ formed in 2004 by progressive eBay co-founder Jeff Skoll to create socially aware films. That mandate seemed like a recipe for failure‚ but the studio walked the line between message and merriment. It earned plenty of critical love‚ too‚ but when a scare documentary on climate change grosses a gaudy $24 million stateside you’re doing something right. Until now‚ apparently. Frazer Harrison/Getty Images for Paramount Pictures Previous Participant projects like “Truth‚” “RGB‚” and “When They See Us” certainly had a liberal-leaning approach‚ and some genuinely impacted the culture. That Skoll opted to shutter the company now says something. Progressive stories will still be made‚ of course‚ but they lost a powerful ally in Participant. Prestige filmmakers have struggled to get their visions made in the 21st century. Even a highly regarded filmmaker like John Sayles (“Matewan‚” “Eight Men Out”) can no longer be guaranteed studio space for future projects. That allowed Netflix to gain a toehold in the cinematic space. The streaming giant gifted gargantuan budgets to filmmakers like Martin Scorsese (“The Irishman”) to make their movies‚ their way while Hollywood studios flinched. The studio previously produced movies with the Coen brothers‚ Scorsese‚ Jane Campion‚ and more. Not anymore. ROBYN BECK/AFP via Getty Images Netflix announced it will focus more on populist original films and skip the auteur-driven projects of yore. Moving forward‚ the platform will focus on films that gain more eyeballs‚ like the “Knives Out” franchise. That means celebrated filmmakers like David Lynch and Katherine Bigelow can’t crack the Netflix code. Apple paid handsomely to fund Ridley Scott’s “Napoleon” epic. Will they follow suit&;#63; “Napoleon” earned just $217 million worldwide compared to its reported $200 million budget. (Studios split revenue with movie theaters and must fork over additional costs for marketing‚ etc.) The aforementioned Harper’s Magazine piece is littered with doom and gloom‚ along with the receipts to back it up: The industry as a whole is now facing a broad contraction. Between August 2022 and the end of last year‚ employment fell by 26 percent—more than one job gone in every four. Layoffs hit Warner Bros. Discovery‚ Netflix‚ Paramount Global‚ Roku‚ and others in 2022. In 2023‚ firings swept through the representation giants United Talent Agency and Creative Artists Agency; Netflix‚ Paramount Global‚ and Roku again; plus Hulu‚ NBCUniversal‚ and Lionsgate. In early 2024‚ it was announced that Amazon was cutting hundreds of jobs from its Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios divisions. In February‚ Paramount Global laid off roughly eight hundred people. It’s unclear which streamers will survive.  Hollywood is still deathly afraid of how AI technology will impact its workforce. We’ve already seen stars lose out on voiceover work thanks to AI. That could be the tip of a digital iceberg the likes of which Hollywood has never seen before. Panic. And it’s understandable. That explains reviving stone-cold dead franchises like “The Blair Witch Project” and the “Scary Movie” series. We’ll also see another live-action “Popeye” film as well as a movie based on the board game “Monopoly.” Can Hollywood be saved&;#63; Perhaps‚ but it won’t be by any of the above film projects. It begins with innovation‚ acknowledging audience expectations‚ and producing less ideological content. The assembled stars should be less dismissive of their dwindling fan bases‚ too. Liberal actor Nick Offerman of “Parks and Recreation” fame set that tone by telling the press his new movie “Civil War” would lose audiences members if it chose a political side. That’s smart. What’s less than smart&;#63; Actor Alan Ritchson teeing off on President Donald Trump‚ the police‚ and Christians while “promoting” his latest project‚ “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.” It might take real risk-taking‚ which is anathema to an industry known for playing it safe. Consider what Kevin Costner has in store for us later this year as the ultimate risk. Jerod Harris/Getty Images for CinemaCon His “Horizon” film saga is an old-fashioned western‚ at least on paper‚ that could span as many as four feature films. The first two installments will be released on June 28 and August 16‚ respectively. The film legend broke the old Hollywood saw about using your own money to invest in the series. Will it pay off&;#63; Costner summed up the all-American saga during his appearance at this month’s CinemaCon gathering: When I think about the promise of America‚ there was a promise out here‚ if you could go. If you were tough enough‚ if you were mean enough‚ if you were resourceful enough‚ if you were lucky enough‚ you could take what you wanted in America.  The same could be true of Hollywood moving forward. ‘They’re The Commies&;#33;’: Joy Behar Says Republicans Are ‘In Bed With The Russians’

Joy Behar claimed on Thursday that Republicans were “in bed with the Russians” and would have been referred to the House UnAmerican Activities Committee if it were still a functioning body. Behar made the comments during a broadcast of ABC’s “The View‚” where she and cohost Whoopi Goldberg complained about Republicans in response to a series of video clips showing them clashing with Democrats on Capitol Hill. “I’m discovering that most of the folks on the other side are the snowflakes. They’re the ones that are afraid of information. They’re the ones who are afraid of history. It’s not us. It’s y’all‚” Goldberg claimed. “Why are they in the bed with the Russians&;#63;” Behar asked. “I mean‚ we grew up in a time when if you were pro-Russia in any way‚ you were hauled before the HUAC Committee and your life was ruined and you were blacklisted. Now all of a sudden these people are all about Russia. Why are Americans accepting that&;#63;” “They call the Democrats ‘Commies‚’ they’re the Commies&;#33;” she added. WATCH: Whoopi claims Republicans &;quot;have forgotten that we the people make the decisions about what goes on in this country‚&;quot; as if Republicans were not elected by the people. She also claims‚ without evidence‚ that the GOP wants to make women property again. pic.twitter.com/ujN1H4Opof — Nicholas Fondacaro (@NickFondacaro) April 18‚ 2024 Goldberg went on to argue that it was harder to get through to Republicans because “they’ve forgotten that we the people make the decisions about what goes on in this country‚ and every time they try to usurp that …” CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP She then pivoted to talk about women’s rights‚ suggesting that Republicans wanted to go back to a time when women had no agency and “didn’t exist” unless they were married. “Why would you want to go back to that&;#63;” she asked. “I don’t understand why we didn’t get angrier sooner‚ and I know people are angry now because I hear it‚” she continued. “But why are we going backwards in a way that’s not good for the economy‚ it’s not good for the country&;#63;”

Poll: Massachusetts Voters Say Immigration Is The Top Issue Facing The State

Massachusetts residents say that immigration is the top issue facing the state‚ a recent poll has found. The poll‚ performed by the MassINC Polling Group‚ asked 1‚002 Massachusetts residents what they believe is the most important issue facing the state‚ leaving the question open-ended. A plurality of Massachusetts residents‚ 21%‚ said that immigration and migrants are the biggest issues facing the Bay State‚ with housing coming in second at 15%. Taxes‚ government spending‚ and welfare came in as the third biggest issue facing the state at 12%. Inflation and the cost of living‚ meanwhile‚ tied government spending in third place at 12%. The vast majority of respondents‚ 67%‚ said that the situation was either a crisis (28%) or a major problem (39%)‚ with Democrats showing significant concern over the issue. Among Democrats‚ 21% called the issue a crisis and 40% called it a major problem. The poll was conducted online between March 21st and 29th‚ surveyed 1‚002 Massachusetts residents‚ and has a margin of error of 3.4 percentage points. Immigration broke the top 10 most pressing issues among poll respondents in Massachusetts for the first time in August 2023 when it moved into fourth place with 10% of respondents dubbing it the Bay State’s biggest issue. Massachusetts is not the only blue state that has become concerned about the effects of Biden’s open border. Another recent poll found that likely voters in Colorado say that immigration is the top issue facing their state as well. The poll found that 14% of likely Colorado voters said immigration is the top issue facing the state‚ with homelessness coming in second at 12%. The Massachusetts and Colorado polls correspond with a wider national trend‚ with 36% of voters across the country saying that immigration is the top issue facing the country‚ while inflation came in second place. A recent Harvard-Harris poll also found that Biden’s lowest issue-specific approval rating is on immigration‚ a trend that has persisted for four consecutive months. The poll results come as the United States faces an unprecedented crisis on our southern border‚ with officials recording about 9 million nationwide encounters and 1.7 million estimated gotaways since President Joe Biden took office. The figure poses a sharp contrast with the 415‚000 total reported gotaways for 2018‚ 2019‚ and 2020 under the Trump administration.
