The Beauty Of Beige Flags

The Beauty Of Beige Flags

The landscape of dating is a well-trodden horizon of red flags and green flags. Red flags are, of course, warning signs — anything about a partner that you want to avoid at all costs. On the other hand, green flags are qualities and attributes you want in a partner; they make you want to be with that person even more. In the gray area of dating discourse, however, is yet another third waving flag color: beige flags. While red means stop and green means go, beige doesn’t offer a suggested trajectory. Beige flags are qualities you notice about someone who you spend a lot of time with. They are the distinct, even funny characteristics you recognize in a significant other. They aren’t good or bad; they’re just unique. Now, why is there a new phrase to define idiosyncrasies and quirks? And is it really necessary? I don’t know and probably not. But here we are. In fact, the phrase “beige flags” has become so popular, it was listed in the top words of 2023, right behind “Swiftie.” ‘Rizz’ was named Oxford's word of the year. Other words that came close include: • prompt• situationship• Swiftie• beige flag• de-influencing• heat dome• parasocial pic.twitter.com/RgGMfunybz — Pop Crave (@PopCrave) December 4, 2023 Beige flags became particularly popular on TikTok, where the trend took off with people posting about their partner’s beige flags. From what I’ve seen in the comments, everyone thinks these videos are wholesome and endearing. For example, one TikToker shows her husband asking Siri to set a reminder for 9:30 so he doesn’t forget he has a cookie to eat, captioning the video with “his beige flag is whatever this is.” The post is just so random, but it’s funny. His wife thinks this beige flag is endearing — and so does everyone in the comments: Screenshots: TikTok It’s sweet that people are viewing these flags as leaning green. Couples seem to be using this trend to fully appreciate each other and recognize what makes their partner unique and different from others in funny, silly ways. It’s healthy to laugh at yourself and know that you love others in spite of their quirks, and this flag is letting people do that. WATCH: The Comments Section with Brett Cooper Another theme I have seen through this trend is women pointing out that their husbands and boyfriends just don’t ask for details, like this one who says her husband’s brother is getting a divorce but he never asked why and his best friend has a new job but he has no clue where. The comments back this funny flag up:   Screenshots: TikTok I see this in my own life with my own husband. When I ask my husband, for example, if he’s talked to his childhood best friend recently, he always tells me yes and that they talk all day sending each other memes. But when I ask what his friend has been up to, how his wife is doing, if they got a new dog — anything — he can’t tell me any details. It’s honestly impressive. Another one of my husband’s beige flags is that he constantly leaves the dishwasher open which I perpetually trip over. Granted, he basically always does the dishes so he wants the dishwasher to be ready to put dishes in. For him, it’s a form of efficiency. And why would I complain? Again, just a quirk. When it comes to my own beige flag (we all have them), I relate to this one: Screenshot: TikTok Now, I know my alarm will still go off even if my phone is on silent, yet every night, I frantically turn the volume up — just to be absolutely certain. I have finally started using do-not-disturb mode, which has been a big win for my husband.  Per usual, this trend has gotten so big that there are now articles attempting to dissect it and make sense of it all. The Cut published a “So What’s Your ‘Beige Flag’?” piece last year with their take. They go on to try and define what beige flags are:  Beige flags are traits that, while not immediate cause for concern, are cause for pause. Of course this is subjective, making the exact definition of a beige flag hard to pin down. The phrase isn’t entirely new — videos listing beige flags made the rounds on Australian TikTok last year. And according to those TikToks, a beige flag is simply something that indicates a person isn’t very interesting. On dating-app bios, it manifests as phrases and interests that some users read as shorthand for “I’m boring.” (Think: saying you’re looking for the “Pam to your Jim”; listing “adventure” or “coffee” as an interest.) However, in the year since, what TikTok considers a beige flag has shifted. While they say a beige flag means “a person isn’t very interesting,” I disagree. I think this has changed since then because they are actually very interesting. TikTok has single-handedly created an entire language of dating lingo, like “the ick,” which this article also discusses: This is the one thing TikTok agrees on: A beige flag isn’t a red flag, a clear dating dealbreaker. Beige flags also aren’t as off-putting as things that give you “the ick,” which are different than red flags in that they are simply turn-offs that border on cringey and repulsive, not, I don’t know, moral failings. (Stay with me.) While beige flags might leave you momentarily confused, getting the ick changes how you look at someone forever. Maybe it’s how their mouth smacks when they eat. Perhaps it’s the awkward way they picked up their dog’s poop once. The ick can be triggered when you least expect it. This, in part, gives it its power. It can also happen gradually, a once-endearing quirk becoming increasingly grating. In other words, the ick can cause a beige flag to become a red one. If this sounds complicated, that’s because it is — and TikTok makes it unnecessarily so. A point to note is that one person’s ridiculous ick could be another person’s beige — or even green — flag. But just because your partner does something you don’t understand doesn’t mean it has to go on your ick list. Unlike the ick trend (which is usually just absurd), the beige flag trend is really just simplifying and normalizing the fact that everyone has quirks. This is all a part of what makes human nature and finding your person so fun and sweet.

Trump Advisor Feels Bad For Hunter Biden: His Dad Made Him ‘The Bag Man’

Trump Advisor Feels Bad For Hunter Biden: His Dad Made Him ‘The Bag Man’

Jason Miller, senior advisor to former President Donald Trump, admitted during a recent interview that he feels “sorry” for President Joe Biden’s now-convicted son, Hunter Biden. Miller made the comments during a Wednesday appearance on Newsmax, just one day after Hunter Biden was convicted in a Delaware court on three felony gun charges, and he argued that his father — now the president — had effectively set Hunter up as “the bag man” in a family influence scheme. WATCH: Trump Senior Advisor @JasonMillerinDC: I actually feel sorry for Hunter Biden—because his father put him in the position to be the bagman to collect all this money from China, Russia, and Ukraine. The Biden's have been selling access to a government official for 50 years. This… pic.twitter.com/jefyv38Nkb — Trump War Room (@TrumpWarRoom) June 13, 2024 “There’s a reason why President Trump and Joe Biden are tied on the issue of who best can protect democracy,” Miller began. “I actually feel sorry for Hunter Biden—because his father put him in the position to be the bagman to collect all this money from China, Russia, [and] Ukraine.” CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP “And we all remember, in 2020, ten percent for the ‘Big Guy’?” he continued. “Tony Bobulinski and the phones, and the meeting with Joe Biden, but how could someone go and allow — put their son in that position? To be the bag man, of course, the money’s going to get to his head and bad things could happen, so I feel sorry about that.” “But what I’m most frustrated about is the foreign money interference,” Miller concluded. “Because the Bidens have been selling access to — whether he was a senator or VP and now president, have been selling access to a government official for 50 years. This is the Biden family business—nobody is a developer, in construction, or opened a small business—they sell access. And so when you’re selling access like that, that’s what I wish the DOJ was looking into — not some gun issue or whatever his personal problems might be. It goes to the top.” In the aftermath of the younger Biden’s conviction on Tuesday, the White House has said that President Biden will stand by his decision not to pardon his son — but when asked specifically about whether he might commute Hunter’s sentence, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre refused to give an answer.

7 Fun Facts About The Dance Group Setting “America’s Got Talent” Ablaze!

America’s Got Talent is back, and Legión, an incredible Argentinian dance group, is taking the AGT world by storm. I’ve never seen a dance like this before in my life. Before we dive into some fun facts about the group, watch the audition video for yourself. It’s one of the most incredible dance crews to ever hit the AGT stage! Now that you get the hype, let’s talk fun facts. Here are 7 quick and awesome facts about AGT’s newest phenomenon: Legión. 1. They are performing a traditional dance called the Malambo, which isn’t performed to music. With drums and stomping, the dancers create their own accompaniment! This image is from YouTube. 2. Fabian Serna is the choreographer and creative director of the group. He’s a dancer, but like all the performers in the group, he has another job. Fabian wishes performing in Legión was his full-time job. I think this entire group deserves a break! The Legión speaker shared on AGT that they all rehearse early into the morning because dancing is their passion. 3. Fabian is a well-traveled performer, taking his dance all over the world. He’s performed in over 10 countries, including Germany, Brazil, and the United States. This image is from YouTube. 4. Malambo emerged as a battle-like dance. Gauchos would prove their vitality by performing this special dance. 5. No, fire isn’t usually part of the Malambo. The Legión group on AGT elevated the routine to include this exciting element. What do you think — does Legión have the chance to take home the prize on this season’s America’s Got Talent? I think they could do it. They feature a great balance of tradition, power, and musicality. Those things result in iconically impressive performances. I can’t wait to see how they continue to elevate their dance each week. Invisible Magician Shocks Sofia Vergara To Her Core In Astounding “AGT” Performance

I hope you’re feeling brave. This invisible magician on AGT is not for the faint of heart. America’s Got Talent is back — and spookier than ever! I’ve never seen a performance like this on the show… and neither has Sofia Vergara. She took the brunt of the scary stuff in this audition! The performance started with a little toy box rolling out. Very quickly, a spooky voice sounded over the speakers. The rope of the box fell and the microphone started to fidget. Very quickly the AGT judges realized: This magician is totally invisible! Then the invisible magician, who revealed herself as Olive, “walked” over to the judge’s booth. This image is from TikTok. She hit a buzzer!!! The judges leapt and Olive called Sofia to the stage. Uh oh. It’s going to get even spookier. I won’t reveal the whole tale of this spooky AGT audition, but the invisible magician clearly made an impact on the audience and the judges. At the end of her performance, she hit all the buzzers and ran off! Everyone was clearly disturbed. I would be too! Folks took to the comments to express their fears with this invisible magician performance on this episode of AGT. “Watch Simon. You can see his image distort and clear up again, as if something invisible walked in front of him,” noticed one viewer. This image is from TikTok. “Wow, that’s a spooky idea!” said another. Several of the viewers noticed the distortion in front of Simon. “I’m glad that I’m not the only one who noticed the distortion around Simon right before Sophia’s buzzer went off the first time. When it went off I was like I knew Olive was in front of Sophia!” posted a different viewer. Well, what do we think — did Olive make it on to the next episode of AGT? Nobody’s Quite Sure What’s Going On In This Delightfully Chaotic Performance

The best kind of performances are the ones that leave us speechless. No matter how you feel about the one in the viral video below, there’s no doubt that it leaves most of us unsure of what to say. But that’s not because it’s bad — on the contrary, everything about this video is absolutely delightful. There’s just… a lot going on. Also, there’s not a lot of context. Or any context, really. That being said, here’s what we do know: At a restaurant in Glasgow, a woman and a man are putting on a performance through song. Both are singing, but the man also plays the piano. There’s something about their song choice and delivery that adds to the unusual atmosphere of the place, but what really makes their performance is the fact that the woman casually eats chips when she’s not singing. @charmedridge_ #glasgow #glasgowtiktok #wholeofthemoon #waterboys ♬ original sound – Andy But that’s just what’s going on with the performers on stage. As this duo sing Whole of the Moon, seemingly random guests start to dance. But here’s the thing: This doesn’t really seem like an easy song to dance to so what we get are particularly interesting moves. At first, only one man dances. Then, someone else joins him. Do they know the singers? Is this part of the performance? We don’t know and, honestly, that makes it all the better. Chaotic Performance in Glasgow Both Confuses and Delights Folks on Social Media “I feel like everyone is having a wildly different experience but no one is having a bad time,” someone in the comments says, perfectly describing the performance. “My ADHD visually explained,” someone else writes while another adds, “This is the inside of my brain?” “As a professional singer and snack enthusiast, it is now my life’s goal to get paid to combine those two passions,” another commenter admits.
