Democratic Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota, who has been selected as Vice President Kamala Harris’s VP pick, helped change his state’s flag three months ago because it was “problematic.” Walz helped appoint the Minnesota State Emblems Redesign Commission to change the flag, which he unveiled in May. The commission included 13 voting members and four non-voting members. “Our current flag is problematic,” Walz said. “I think we all know that. In the spring of 2020, after people had taken to the streets in Minneapolis, Minnesota Democratic Gov. Tim Walz admitted there was an “abject failure” in the response to the rioters who burned businesses and a police precinct. Walz, now the Democrats’ 2024 vice presidential nominee, said during a press conference addressing the riots, “Minneapolis and St. Paul are on fire. The fire is still smoldering in our streets. The ashes are symbolic of decades and generations of pain, of anguish unheard,” PBS reported. He added that he received a call from a state senator who told him that her district was “on fire, no police, no firefighters, no social control, constituents locked in houses wondering what they were going to do.” “That is an abject failure that cannot happen,” Walz added. The governor, who had the authority to activate the National Guard, then shifted the responsibility to city leaders to quell the riots, saying requests for assistance from city leaders “never came.” After a Minneapolis police precinct was burning, Walz finally stepped in and took action, according to PBS. The New York Times reported that Minneapolis Democratic Mayor Jacob Frey requested assistance from Walz two days after Floyd’s death as protests turned violent. The Minneapolis police chief also sent a written request to Walz for 600 National Guard troops hours after Frey reached out to the governor. However, it wasn’t until the next afternoon that the Minnesota governor issued an executive order authorizing the National Guard to be dispatched to Minneapolis. Rioters set fire to at least 220 buildings following George Floyd’s death in police custody. Estimates in 2021, a year after the riots, put the total cost of damage to both Minneapolis and St. Paul at $500 million, according to the Star Tribune. Many of the businesses damaged in the riots remained closed a year after the unrest.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz pushed the far-left diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) agenda on his state as one of his very first actions in office, creating a diversity council that derided America as systemically racist and pushed for “anti-racist practices” as a solution to “whiteness.” Shortly after assuming office in January 2019, Walz signed his first executive order, creating the One Minnesota Council on Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity. “Disparities in Minnesota, including those based on race, geography, and economic status, keep our entire state from reaching its full potential,” Walz said at the time. He said the council would “establish goals and work collaboratively to address diversity, inclusion, and equity in state government practices, including recruiting, retaining and promoting state employees, state government contracting, and civic engagement.” The governor’s council went on to outline its equity outlook agenda, which argued that the United States is systemically racist. “The U.S. economy was built on the exploitation and occupational segregation of People of Color and American Indian People,” one presentation from the council argued. “Many people, governmental policies, and institutional practices have had a role in creating racial disparities.” The race-based DEI ideology, which has become embedded throughout federal and state governments in recent years, holds that the United States is systematically racist, and that racial groups are either privileged or oppressed. DEI policies often result in discrimination and argue that any difference in group outcomes is necessarily the result of oppressive social, political, or economic structures. The council also argued that anti-racist policies must be taken as a response to the role of whiteness in our society. “Our norms are grounded in Whiteness. Intentionality is needed to center anti-racist practices,” it said. The One Minnesota Council also sought to mobilize the entirety of the state’s executive branch behind the far-left DEI agenda. The council used “diversity liaisons” to conduct an “equity inventory” of state departments, asking each to provide examples of their policies that “advance racial equity” and their legislative priorities pertaining to racial equity. Walz’s executive order also created the “Governor’s Community Council,” which works in conjunction with the One Minnesota Council to “implement equitable, inclusive, and effective practices for the State to address disparities, inequities, and systemic racism in our communities.”

The baby is content, lounging in her bassinet swaddled in a blanket. Her father continues to coax the girl by saying, “Look at her.” The new big sister leans closer to get a good look. Once she has calmed down a bit, she is standing next to her father and smiling down at her baby sister. Long gone are the tears, and now, a happy smile is the replacement. She turns from her sister and says to her father, ” I can’t wait for her to grow up.” Her parents chuckle as they likely know she may not feel that way in a few years! We don’t know if it is the matching pink outfit set, her pigtails, or the pure emotion with which she reacted that made this video so adorable.
