House Republicans Subpoena Biden Officials Over ‘Partisan’ Effort To ‘Tilt’ 2024 Election

House Republicans subpoenaed 15 top Biden officials on Thursday over concerns that the administration may be implementing a partisan “scheme” to benefit Democrats in the 2024 election. House Administration Committee Chairman Bryan Steil (R-WI) sent out the subpoenas, which ask for documentation on plans made in response to an executive order from President Joe Biden. The order called for the heads of federal agencies to develop plans to “promote voter registration and voter participation.” The heads of agencies were told to create “strategic plans” for how their specific agency would increase voting and voter turnout.  “Elections are partisan, but our election administration should never be partisan. Allowing federal employees from the Biden Administration to flood election administration sites threatens election integrity and reduces Americans’ confidence,” Steil said. “This Executive Order is another attempt by the Biden Administration to tilt the scales ahead of 2024.” “I will continue working to provide transparency and accountability on this Administration’s latest scheme as Congress did not appropriate taxpayer funds for partisan activities,” the Wisconsin Republican added.  The 15 agencies subpoenaed include the Commerce Department, Homeland Security, Defense Department, Justice Department, Education Department, Energy Department, Health and Human Services, Housing and Urban Development, Interior Department, Labor Department, Office of Management and Budget, State Department, Transportation Department, Treasury Department and Agriculture Department.  In his letter, Steil said that lawmakers were considering passing a legislative repeal to Biden’s order and needed to see the plans to inform their decision. To comply with the request, the agencies must submit their plans by June 26.  “As the Committee continues to investigate this issue, the strategic plans and other documents requested will inform the Committee on what additional legislation, if any, needs to be considered to clarify that the NRA does not enable executive branch agencies to focus on voter registration,” Steil wrote.  CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP He said the committee had several concerns about some of the steps agencies had already taken to implement Biden’s order. “Over the last few months, some agencies have taken actions that were likely outlined in their strategic plans. Examples include the Department of Education’s new federal work-study requirements, and the Small Business Administration’s entrance into a voter registration agreement with Michigan,” he wrote. Last month, the House Committee on Small Business subpoenaed the Small Business Administration (SBA) over its alleged efforts to “register Democrat voters” in Michigan. The subpoena came after a collaboration between the SBA and the Michigan state government to register voters was announced.

Sole Republican To Oppose Garland Contempt Explains Vote

The only House Republican to oppose a resolution to hold Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt of Congress in a clash over audio from the classified documents probe against President Joe Biden said, “Enough is enough,” after the vote on Wednesday. Rep. Dave Joyce (R-OH) broke ranks and joined 206 Democrats in voting against the measure designed to rebuke Garland for refusing to comply with two subpoenas. The resolution passed with the support of 216 Republicans. Eight others did not vote. “As a former prosecutor, I cannot in good conscience support a resolution that would further politicize our judicial system to score political points,” Joyce said in a statement explaining his vote. “The American people expect Congress to work for them, solve policy problems, and prioritize good governance. Enough is enough.” The subpoenas demanded tapes of special counsel Robert Hur’s two-day interview with Biden and of the special counsel’s interview with Biden’s ghostwriter, Mark Zwonitzer, after the release of a report describing Biden as an “elderly man with a poor memory.” House Republicans managed to obtain transcripts of the interviews, but they said they still needed the audio to conduct oversight and pushed forward with contempt of Congress proceedings after Biden asserted executive privilege over the tapes. Democrats in the House have claimed the actions of their GOP colleagues are tainted by politics. Garland, whose agency said that sharing the audio would impede future investigations and insisted the attorney general is shielded from prosecution because of privilege, said the House turned “a serious congressional authority into a partisan weapon.” CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP He added in a statement, “Today’s vote disregards the constitutional separation of powers, the Justice Department’s need to protect its investigations, and the substantial amount of information we have provided to the Committees. I will always stand up for this Department, its employees, and its vital mission to defend our democracy.” While it appears unlikely the Department of Justice under the Biden administration will take up a contempt of Congress case that could result in Garland facing up to a year of prison time and as much as $100,000 in fines, there may yet be steps taken by the GOP. “If the DOJ has not indicted him by June 25, I will call a vote to hold him in inherent contempt of Congress, and he will be forced to produce the recordings or be held by the Sergeant at Arms,” warned Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) in a post to X.

‘We Were Brutalized Tonight’: Professional Climate Crybabies Mad That Capitol Police Protected Congress

Protesters representing the left-wing climate activist group Climate Defiance attempted to disrupt Wednesday evening’s Congressional baseball game, and then complained that they had been “brutalized” when the Capitol Police — on hand to protect the members of Congress who were playing and watching the game — actually policed the Capitol. Several members of the group jumped over barriers and attempted to “take the field” — though most were tackled and handcuffed before they could even make it past the dirt track — to protest the continued use of fossil fuels and the fact that Chevron had sponsored the annual charity event. When all was said and done, eight arrests were made and all of those involved were directed to exit the venue — with the crowd cheering on the police officers the whole time. But Climate Defiance was not amused, and responded later in a post to X. “We were brutalized tonight — beaten and bruised as we took over the Congressional Baseball Game. Our bodies are bloodied but our spirits are unmoved. We will build a better world. We will rise again. We will prevail. Just you wait,” the post read. Calm down Spartacus, you guys didn’t even make it out of Left field. — Parker Thayer (@ParkerThayer) June 13, 2024 “the greatest national security threat to our long term future is not Russia, it’s not China, it’s not North Korea or Iran or any other country. It’s epidemic of theater kids who grew up on Glee & didn’t get stuffed in lockers enough growing up. There’s still time. We must act,” another added. the greatest national security threat to our long term future is not Russia, it’s not China, it’s not North Korea or Iran or any other country. You deserve your discomfort. https://t.co/SoAe1CWH2w — Gail Helt (@ghelt) June 13, 2024 1. You were not “brutalized,” @ClimateDefiance, we all watched. 2. This “demonstration” was the epitome of tactics without a strategy. 3. Given the history surrounding the Congressional baseball game, the use of force was appropriate and justifiable. 4. Grow up. — Jonathan Franks (@jonfranks) June 13, 2024 Several pro-Hamas protesters also attempted to disrupt the game early on, but were escorted out after being drowned out by the crowd chanting, “USA! USA!” Republicans won Wednesday evening’s contest in an absolute rout, 31-11. In the charity game’s history — beginning in 1909 – Republicans have won the most games with 49. The largest margin of victory went to the Democrats, who won 36-4 in 1928.
