Zach Top Powered Through A Full Show In Mississippi & Then Refunded Fans Because He Was Sick: “Not The Kind Of Show I Want To Put On”
Zach Top continues to prove that he belongs in the country music world.
The young artist is single handedly bringing back traditional country, yet he isn’t trying to mimic any one person or any one style (though he has been closely tied to Alan Jackson). He’s just pure country, and the music that he writes and records just so happens to harken back to the simpler times and sounds of ’90s country.
And the 27-year-old recently proved that he’s mature beyond his years when he decided to refund tickets to his Jackson, Mississippi show that took place at Dixie National Livestock Show. How did that show Top’s maturity and character? Well, he still played his entire set list for those in attendance, but felt as though him being under the weather kept his performance from being what his fans deserved.
The rising country music star said this to the audience before he wrapped up his show:
“We’re gonna get it sorted out, and we’re gonna get you your money back for tonight’s show, because this is not the kind of show I want to put on. But we’re gonna be back before you know it, and we’re gonna put you on a real show. We just got a couple songs left for you tonight, thank you so much for coming out here, and for making us feel like a million dollars.”
What I didn’t transcribe in between some of those sentences were the cheers of support from the audience. They were either cheering that they were getting their money back for a show that still happened, or they were making sure Zach Top knew that they all appreciated him for toughing it out. I like to think it was a combination of both.
Top went on to say this:
“It blows my mind every night, this is all I ever wanted to do ever since I was a little kid. And y’all are the reason I get to do this. So when I can’t do that to the 100% of my ability, it ain’t good enough for me. So, we’re gonna get you all your money back for tonight’s show.”
My favorite part is that Top then proceeds to bust right into “Things To Do” from his latest Cold Beer & Country Music album. He provided some killer riffs on the guitar, and admittedly let the crowd help hit some of the high notes of the song. But it was clear that the audience had his back, and was just happy they still got to see Top perform despite feeling under the weather.
As to how the refund process has been going, that’s unclear. That being said, it would be hard to imagine that Zach Top would announce something like that during the show and then not follow through with his fans. But at the very least, everyone that was there still got a full Zach Top concert… even if the rising country star wasn’t 100%.
You can hear the “I Never Lie” singer’s message to the crowd below:

Class act.
Luke Combs pulled a similar move in Bangor, Maine, a few years back. He told the crowd:
“A few hours ago, I realized that I was not going to be able to sing as well as I normally do.
What I’ve decided to do is refund all your tickets, we’re gonna play… hold on a second, I’m just gonna need your help. We’re still gonna play the show.
But it’s not gonna be what I think it should be for you guys having to pay for it. So we’re gonna put on the best free show we can put on, and I want you guys to know how upset I am to tell you that.
But all I want you to know is that we’re gonna do the very damn best, I’m gonna give you everything that I have, and I’m so sorry… I’m so sorry.”
