California Cant Account For All $24 Billion Spent On Homeless Crisis‚ Audit Finds

<;p>;California spent $24 billion on the states homeless crisis over the past five years‚ but it did not consistently track whether the enormous amount of spending was making a dent in the problem‚ a state audit has found.<;/p>;<;p>;The <;a href=";https://www.auditor.ca.gov/reports/2023-102.1/index.html#section1"; target=";_blank"; rel=";noopener";>;audit<;/a>; released Tuesday found California lacks current information on the ongoing costs and outcomes of its homelessness programs.<;/p>;<;p>;The stateagency responsible for the issue has not consistently tracked and evaluated the States efforts to prevent and end homelessness‚ the audit discovered.<;/p>;<;p>;California has about 30% of the countrys homeless people‚ and the number continues to rise.<;/p>;<;p>;A total of 181‚399 people were homeless in California at some point in 2023‚ up from 151‚278 people in 2019. Last years homeless population was a 53% jump from the 118‚552 people who were homeless in 2013‚ according to the audit.<;/p>;<;p data-type=";paragraph";>;Billions of taxpayer dollars were spent on more than 30 homeless and housing programs between 2018 and 2023‚ yet California could not explain why homelessness did not improve in some cities. In some areas‚ homelessness has become visibly worse‚ notably in San Francisco‚ Los Angeles‚ and Sacramento.<;/p>;<;p data-type=";paragraph";>;San Franciscos downtown has emptied out as drug addicts shoot up in broad daylight and tents line the streets. The city is restricted from removing tents from the streets unless it can prove it is providing shelter for each person.<;/p>;<;p data-type=";paragraph";>;In September‚ Sacramentos top prosecutor <;a href=";https://www.dailywire.com/news/sacramentos-top-prosecutor-sues-city-over-homeless-encampments"; target=";_blank"; rel=";noopener";>;sued<;/a>; the city over its homeless encampments‚ accusing city officials of allowing the homeless population to become a public nuisance.<;/p>;<;p data-type=";paragraph";>;<;b>;<;a href=";https://onelink.to/dwapp"; target=";_blank"; rel=";noopener noreferrer"; aria-describedby=";sk-tooltip-9096"; data-saferedirecturl=";https://www.google.com/url?q=https://onelink.to/dwapp&;amp;source=gmail&;amp;ust=1712932862202000&;amp;usg=AOvVaw0plT8RRdMy9XUpIhocnjQS";>;CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP<;/a>;<;/b>;<;/p>;<;p data-type=";paragraph";>;This report concludes that the state must do more to assess the cost-effectiveness of its homelessness programs‚ State Auditor Grant Parks wrote in a letter to Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom and state lawmakers.<;/p>;<;p>;The audit examined five state homeless programs to assess their cost-effectiveness and found that two housing-related programs were likely cost-effective. However‚ the audit was unable to assess the other three programs because the state failed to collect enough data.<;/p>;<;p>;The audit recommended that the legislature take action to require the states main homelessness agency to compile and publicly report the costs and results of taxpayer-funded homelessness programs.<;/p>;<;p>;The California Interagency Council on Homelessness‚ the state agency responsible for homelessness programs‚ responded to the state auditors report‚ saying it generally agrees with the recommendations and will take appropriate measures to implement where possible.<;/p>;<;p>;In the wake of the audit‚ California Republican leaders blasted the states Democratic leadership.<;/p>;<;p>;This is standard Gavin Newsom make a splashy announcement‚ waste a bunch of taxpayer money‚ and completely fail to deliver‚ California Assembly Republican Leader James Gallagher <;a href=";https://www.foxnews.com/politics/california-gop-leaders-call-accountability-state-cant-account-24b-spent-homeless-crisis"; target=";_blank"; rel=";noopener";>;said<;/a>;.<;/p>;<;p>;Californians are tired of the homeless crisis‚ and theyre even more tired of Gavins excuses. We need results period‚ full stop‚ Gallagher added.<;/p>;<;p>;Republican state Sen. Roger Niello called the audit troubling but criticized the audit itself for focusing heavily on shelter.<;/p>;<;p>;The one issue I had with the audit was that the focus was mostly on housing and shelter issues‚ which is certainly important‚ but really very little about actual results‚ getting people out of homelessness‚ not just into shelter‚ Niello <;a href=";https://www.foxnews.com/politics/california-gop-leaders-call-accountability-state-cant-account-24b-spent-homeless-crisis"; target=";_blank"; rel=";noopener";>;said<;/a>;. Thats sort of half the job‚ maybe not even quite half the job. And‚ so that was a little bit of a disappointment.<;/p>;

8 Armed Robbers Smash Family-Owned Oakland Jewelry Store‚ Loot 90% Of Inventory‚ Owners Say

<;p>;As crime runs rampant in the Bay Area‚ an Oakland‚ California‚ jewelry store that has been in business for 40 years was <;a href=";https://abc7news.com/exclusive-armed-suspects-clear-out-phuong-jewelry-in-oakland-chinatown/14649607/"; target=";_blank"; rel=";noopener";>;robbed<;/a>; of 85-90% of its inventory when eight thieves brandishing weapons and accompanied by two getaway cars hit the store Wednesday afternoon.<;/p>;<;p>;The Trinh family‚ which owns Phuong Jewelry in Oaklands Chinatown Wednesday‚ had let their business insurance lapse because premiums had risen. Video showed the eight thieves shattering every case as they ravaged the store.<;/p>;<;p>;Diane Trinh‚ 69‚ hid and yelled for help as no security guard was on duty; her 76-year-old husband burst in with a firearm‚ prompting the thieves to flee.<;/p>;<;p>;If he hadnt done that they would have kept going‚ the Trinhs son Tony‚ the executive director of the Oakland Chinatown Improvement Council‚ said. Weve been robbed a few times before but not at this level of brazen magnitude. Eight individuals and two getaway cars and guns drawn. I thought‚ did my mother get shot? Did my father get shot? Did any of our staff of community members?<;/p>;<;p>;My mom was devastated and my dad was broken‚ Tony said. Its rough‚ my mom is the leader of the pack when she suffers I suffer the same thing from her.<;/p>;<;p>;Yet Tony steadfastly believes the neighborhood can improve. Ive seen tremendous progress even though it doesnt feel like that. In terms of cleaning and safety‚ there are a lot more out there ambassadors we have walking officers during the pandemic we didnt‚ he said. We cant let our fear overcome! The only way to reduce crime is to have more traffic‚ events‚ people to get more resources. A strong Oakland Chinatown is strong for every community in Oakland.<;/p>;<;p>;<;b>;<;a href=";https://onelink.to/dwapp"; target=";_blank"; rel=";noopener noreferrer"; aria-describedby=";sk-tooltip-9096"; data-saferedirecturl=";https://www.google.com/url?q=https://onelink.to/dwapp&;amp;source=gmail&;amp;ust=1712932862202000&;amp;usg=AOvVaw0plT8RRdMy9XUpIhocnjQS";>;CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP<;/a>;<;/b>;<;/p>;<;blockquote class=";twitter-tweet"; data-width=";500"; data-dnt=";true";>;<;p lang=";en"; dir=";ltr";>;8 armed suspects ransacked the legacy Oakland Chinatown business Phuong Jewelry yesterday at around 12:30. <;/p>;<;p>;The family tells me‚ in less than one minute 85-90% of their inventory was taken. <;/p>;<;p>;Watch as owner Diane runs to the back &;amp; gets her year old husband. Claudine Gay‚ Who Resigned Due To Plagiarism Allegations‚ To Teach Reading And Research Class At Harvard In Fall

Claudine Gay‚ Who Resigned Due To Plagiarism Allegations‚ To Teach Reading And Research Class At Harvard In Fall

<;p>;Former Harvard University President Claudine Gay‚ who resigned from her position in January following numerous allegations of plagiarism‚ will teach a graduate-level course on Reading and Research this fall.<;/p>;<;p>;Gay taught the same course this spring‚ The College Fix <;a href=";https://www.thecollegefix.com/claudine-gay-will-teach-reading-and-research-in-fall-2024/"; target=";_blank"; rel=";noopener";>;reported<;/a>;‚ which would have been scheduled before she resigned. She will return to teach the same independent study class in the fall‚ even after her alleged plagiarism was widely reported. Further‚ she continues to receive her $900‚000-a-year salary.<;/p>;<;p>;According to Harvards <;a href=";https://infoforfaculty.fas.harvard.edu/book/special-types-courses"; target=";_blank"; rel=";noopener";>;website<;/a>;‚ graduate-level Reading and Research courses do not provide letter grades‚ and a 2011 <;a href=";https://scholar.harvard.edu/jimalt/classes/government-3000-graduate-courses-reading-and-research"; target=";_blank"; rel=";noopener";>;description<;/a>; of the course (Gay taught the course back then as well) states that it requires written work of sufficient quantity and quality so that the course is equivalent to a lecture course or a seminar.<;/p>;<;p>;Gay resigned in January after <;a href=";https://www.dailywire.com/news/harvards-gay-accused-of-6-more-instances-of-plagiarism-in-new-complaint"; target=";_blank"; rel=";noopener";>;nearly 50 examples<;/a>; of alleged plagiarism in her past academic work were uncovered.<;/p>;<;p>;On December 19‚ I submitted a formal complaint with allegations of plagiarism by Claudine Gay‚ a complaint against Gay‚ <;a href=";https://freebeacon.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Complaint2.pdf"; target=";_blank"; rel=";noopener";>;obtained<;/a>; by The Washington Free Beacon‚ said. Now I am forced to submit an additional complaint with nearly 50 allegations‚ including over half a dozen examples never seen before. Some of them occur in a publication by Gay that was until now believed to be free from allegations of plagiarism. Others occur in the dissertation. Harvards independent review missed them. For this reason and others‚ a new research misconduct inquiry must be opened.<;/p>;<;p>;Gay published just 17 works during her tenure as an academic‚ and eight of them were reported to contain plagiarized material.<;/p>;<;p>;The plagiarism allegations surfaced after Gay and other university presidents <;a href=";https://www.dailywire.com/news/report-obama-privately-came-out-for-gay-at-harvard-amid-anti-semitism-scandal"; target=";_blank"; rel=";noopener";>;testified<;/a>; before Congress‚ refusing to say that calling for the genocide of Jews violated codes of conduct. Each president suggested context was needed to determine whether such a call would violate the schools code of conduct.<;/p>;<;p>;Months later‚ when Gay resigned‚ she attempted to downplay the allegations against her by claiming racial animus was behind some of her criticism.<;/p>;<;p>;<;b>;<;a href=";https://onelink.to/dwapp"; target=";_blank"; rel=";noopener noreferrer"; aria-describedby=";sk-tooltip-9096"; data-saferedirecturl=";https://www.google.com/url?q=https://onelink.to/dwapp&;amp;source=gmail&;amp;ust=1712932862202000&;amp;usg=AOvVaw0plT8RRdMy9XUpIhocnjQS";>;CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP<;/a>;<;/b>;<;/p>;<;p>;Amidst all of this‚ it has been distressing to have doubts cast on my commitments to confronting hate and upholding scholarly rigor two bedrock values that are fundamental to who I am and frightening to be subjected to personal attacks and threats fueled by racial animus‚ she <;a href=";https://www.dailywire.com/news/claudine-gay-to-resign-as-harvard-president-report";>;wrote<;/a>;.<;/p>;<;p>;Vanderbilt University professor Carol Swain‚ a black scholar whom Gay is accused of plagiarizing‚ condemned Harvards handling of the situation.<;/p>;<;p>;I have a problem with the way Harvard has reacted to the entire situation‚ because it seems like with the assistance of some of their professors and other elites theyre trying to redefine what is plagiarism‚ Swain said‚ <;a href=";https://www.nationalreview.com/news/scholars-say-they-were-plagiarized-by-claudine-gay-ignored-by-harvard-investigation/"; target=";_blank"; rel=";noopener";>;according to National Review<;/a>;. Theyre making the argument that there are different levels and‚ by extension‚ that some of it is acceptable. That is a problem for higher education in America.<;/p>;
