Comedian Nick Di Paolo has no regrets

Nick Di Paolo doesn’t know how he gets away with it.The veteran comic says virtually anything he pleases these days despite the woke left’s stranglehold on comedy. There’s a catch‚ of course. To hear Di Paolo’s wisecracks‚ you have to visit platforms like Locals.com and Rumble or sign up to the Mug Club network of podcasters. That includes Mug Club founder Steven Crowder‚ the HodgeTwins‚ and Bryan Callen.Di Paolo‚ whose credits include “Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn‚” “Inside Amy Schumer‚” and “The Chris Rock Show‚” can no longer be heard on so-called mainstream platforms.Regrets? Not really.“I turned my back on legitimate show business — which it isn’t anymore‚” Di Paolo tells Align. “I think I’m in the real show business ... there is no real traditional Hollywood anymore. I’ve had no interest in that for the last few years.”Listening to “The Nick Di Paolo Show” is like time-traveling to New York City circa 1995 and cranking Howard Stern from your woofers and tweeters. It’s raw‚ uncompromising‚ and brimming with gags you can’t say in polite company. They're just jokes‚ of course — the kind Joan Rivers and Don Rickles once told with a wink and a grin.“I just say what I wanna say‚” the 62-year-old explains. That often means belittling President Joe Biden‚ woke restrictions‚ or other progressive targets left untouched by late-night comics. While some Hollywood conservatives are loud and proud now‚ Di Paolo never hid his conservative views.“I always leaned right but didn’t do political stuff‚” he says of his stand-up material. That changed in recent years‚ especially when he started his signature podcast.Longtime friend and colleague Colin Quinn once described Di Paolo’s ideological bent.“If you do a joke about McDonald’s‚ people can tell how you voted‚” Quinn quipped about Di Paolo’s on-stage demeanor. It didn’t help‚ he says with a laugh‚ that he once singled out conservative firebrand Ann Coulter for praise during a Comedy Central roast performance. He couldn’t help himself. Then or now.The Massachusetts native has changed with the times‚ to a degree. He now calls Savannah‚ Georgia‚ home after years on the East Coast. The southern city lacks a comedy scene where he can hone his craft‚ but he craved a rest from the road.“Some people need that attention‚” he says of life as a touring comic. “I enjoy writing for other people‚ too.” In between podcasts he “punches up stuff” for Fox News’ “Gutfeld!” late-night showcase.Di Paolo may lean on podcasting and alternative platforms today‚ but he’s still ambivalent about other aspects of modern comedy. He prides himself on honing a bulletproof set in an age when a “crowd work” stand-up comedy clip can yield endless social media clicks.“I was known for eviscerating people [in clubs]‚” he recalls of his early stand-up days. “Now‚ it’s a guy doing a mediocre comeback ... it’s not even edgy.”He’s still happy for the new wave of comedians like Joe List and Mark Normand who leverage social media to build their fan bases. He’s also professionally close with “canceled” comedian Louis C.K.‚ who was unofficially banned from Hollywood in 2017 after admitting to pleasuring himself in front of multiple women.Di Paolo appeared in C.K.’s 2022 indie film “Fourth of July” and previously co-starred on FX’s “Louie” sitcom.Di Paolo‚ who plays Soul Joel’s Comedy Club &; Lounge on May 10 in Pottstown‚ Pennsylvania‚ and the Count Basie Center for the Arts in Red Bank‚ New Jersey‚ on May 11‚ has less kind words for the “King of All Media.”He recalls Stern treating him well when he’d visit the shock jock’s show in years gone by. Since then‚ Di Paolo watched the radio legend change ... and hardly for the better.“This is what happens when you go to a shrink every day of your life‚” he says of Stern‚ who has talked about his chronic therapy sessions over the decades. “They take the life right out of you.”Stern‚ he laments‚ “turned into the people he mocked.”“You’ll do anything to make a buck even if you’re a trillionaire. You reinvent yourself into the [expletive] you used to hate‚” he continues. “He caved to all this woke stuff‚” he adds‚ a complaint fellow comedian Joe Rogan made in 2023.Di Paolo doesn’t regret his approach to comedy‚ even if he doesn’t lean on social media as much as a professional comic should these days.“I chose the way I am on stage and off stage‚” he says of his career‚ looking back at the first open mic night he performed at back in 1988. Now‚ audiences crave authenticity over pre-packaged comics who toe the mainstream line.“I didn’t know I’d have to wait 40 years for my time to come.”

Sheriff in Washington state won't enforce city's ban on homeless encampments‚ prompting lawsuit: 'We passed a law'

A pair of dueling lawsuits in Washington state have shone a national spotlight on homeless encampments and the rights of local municipalities to restrict or ban them. The case involves leaders of Burien‚ Washington‚ a city of more than 50‚000 residents located near Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. While Burien has a police department‚ the city spends $16 million‚ roughly 45% of its annual budget‚ on contracting with the King County Sheriff's Office for police services.Earlier this month‚ the Burien City Council voted to pass Ordinance 832‚ which banned homeless tents within 500 feet of many city locations‚ including schools‚ day care centers‚ and parks. The law provides one exception: In the event that shelter space is unavailable‚ homeless residents may remain in their tents from 7 p.m. until 6 a.m."We passed a law that tackled the negative impacts around tent encampments‚" said Burien Mayor Kevin Schilling. "[We're] giving people the option to sleep at night in a tent‚ but saying‚ 'You can’t have it up 24/7 because that is what leads to bigger problems.'"Though the law was passed properly‚ King County Sheriff Patricia Cole-Tindall ordered her deputies not to enforce it. On March 11‚ she filed a lawsuit against the City of Burien‚ suggesting that the encampment ban is unconstitutional."After completing a legal analysis of the ordinance‚ the sheriff’s office has serious concerns about the constitutionality of the ordinance‚ especially when the exclusion zones are determined solely at the discretion of the City Manager and can be changed at any time‚" the sheriff's lawsuit said.Cole-Tindall is a political appointee of Democrat County Executive Dow Constantine‚ but she claimed that Constantine was not involved in the decision not to enforce the law. Two weeks after the sheriff filed suit‚ the City of Burien filed a countersuit in Snohomish County Superior Court‚ claiming that by not enforcing the law‚ the sheriff's office was in breach of contract. An investigation from journalist Jonathan Choe of Discovery Institute revealed that the homeless in Burien are often using drugs and harassing locals in broad daylight. In the following video posted to X‚ one homeless man ordered the person filming him‚ ostensibly Choe‚ to "get the f*** out of his] face." Moments later‚ he warned that he was "about to get violent": — (@) Mayor Schilling likewise explained to various news outlets that the decision not to enforce the law posed a danger to homeless people living in Burien. Three homeless people have suffered overdoses just in the last few weeks‚ and one of the individuals later died‚ Schilling claimed. The sheriff's office released a statement about the city's lawsuit: "The constitutionality of Burien’s anti-camping ordinance is squarely before the federal court. Burien’s attempt to avoid a binding judgment by filing a lawsuit in Snohomish County is just a misguided distraction as we await decision from the federal court."Schilling says he hopes that at the very least‚ the lawsuit will help the city transition to an independent police force. "This whole situation is a waste of taxpayer dollars‚ taxpayer time‚ and government resources‚" he said‚ "when we could have been all focused on getting people off the streets and into shelters and services."While the lawsuits languish in the courts‚ area residents remain frustrated that their city has been overtaken by lawless vagrants. "This is on purpose‚" one area businessman said about the cluster of tents that have sprung up around his city."Who's making all the decisions? Not us."Like Blaze News? Parents say half of students stayed home in protest against LGBQT club held in secret at California elementary school

Parents of students in a California school district organized a walk-out in protest against an LGBTQ club that had been held without parent notification. The LGBTQ+ group was created by a third-grade teacher at the Pleasant Grove Elementary School in the Elk Grove Unified District. "Deal with the bullying. Don't keep secrets from parents‚" said Brittani Cortina‚ a parent of the district. "Take that issue with the parents don't take that issue with the students in the school.""These little minds‚ they just can't wrap their head around what these types of things mean to them‚" said Pamela Davila‚ a parent of the elementary school. "I don't think any of us have an issue with that topic. It's just that they did that without notifying the parents."The National Center for Law &; Policy‚ on behalf of the outraged parents‚ sent a cease-and-desist letter to the district over the controversial club.“All of the evidence points to the fact that Elk Grove Unified School District’s UBU Club at Pleasant Grove Elementary School was intentionally designed and planned to be a covert child sexuality club whose very purpose was to deceive and undermine parents and families whose viewpoints regarding human sexuality differ from the extreme ideological and political agendas of the Youth Development Office‚ aligned administrators and rogue teachers like Daniel Bishop‚” the NCLP wrote in the letter. The group went on to point out that the teacher purposely held the meetings at lunch in order to circumvent parental notification rules. Parents told KTXL-TV that about half of the student body was missing from attending school over their protest. Rather than defuse the situation‚ defenders of the secret LGBTQ club argued that it was necessary for the furtherance of the LGBTQ+ political agenda. Pleasant Grove Elementary Principal Deidra Wood said in a letter to parents that the group was intended to "support and provide a safe space for any 3rd-6th grade LGBTQ+ students and any other interested students in 3rd-6th grade." She added the children at the club meetings would "participate in activities such as playing board games and doing puzzles in an environment that is designed to support diverse families‚ affirm varying identities‚ and celebrate the importance and value of diversity." Activist Jorge Reyes Salinas of Equality California argued that the club supported gender identity without necessarily discussing sex. "You can talk about feelings and identity without talking about the mechanics of sex‚" said Salinas. "It's important for every student in the elementary school system to establish some sort of foundation of respect and understanding for all people‚ for all students‚ and that is what UBU is really doing." The NCLP has threatened to seek further legal action if the district doesn't agree to end the clubs by April 10. Here's more about the incident: Like Blaze News?
