Discover the Lost Culture of San Agust&;iacute;n in Colombia

Discover the Lost Culture of San Agust&;iacute;n in Colombia

  San Agustin is an archaeological park located in the region of Huila‚ southern Colombia. It is known as the major complex of megalithic sculptures of pre-Hispanic America. This archaeological park conserves the lithic remains of one of the most mysterious pre-Columbian cultures in the country‚ whose origins and reasons for disappearance are still unknown.   What Do We Know About This Culture&;#63; Archaeological Park of San Agustin by Martin Gray. Source: Sacred Sites‚ UNESCO   The archaeological complex of San Agust&;iacute;n is considered the world’s biggest necropolis‚ whose temples and sculptures correspond to various communities that shared social structures and systems of beliefs. Their story has been unfolded by archaeological research that has studied the sculptures and temples found in these archaeological sites since the 18th century.   The culture of San Agust&;iacute;n settled on the macizo Colombiano‚ a mountain cluster that marks the end of the Andes Cordillera and splits into three smaller mountain ranges to the north‚ which shapes Colombia’s topography. The culture of San Agust&;iacute;n gets its name from the village of San Agustin‚ an urban settlement close to where the archaeological remains were found.   Parque Arqueol&;oacute;gico de San Agust&;iacute;n by Mario Carvajal. Source: Wikimedia Commons   Evidence of the culture of San Austin has been found in over 300 archaeological sites in an area of 3‚000 square meters (Duque‚ 2017). The lithic elements are spread over a geographical area bounded by the Chocoan rainforest to the west‚ the Andean Cordillera to the south‚ and the Amazonian rainforest to the east. Primary sites include Mesitas‚ where the oldest tombs were found‚ and La Estaci&;oacute;n‚ the most important architectural structure (Duque‚ 2017). Other important sites include the Alto de los &;Iacute;dolos‚ the Alto de las Piedras‚ El Purutal and La Pelota‚ and La Chaquira‚ a big rock carved in-situ facing a valley and exhibiting three faces pointing towards different directions: a jaguar to the horizon‚ a face looking at the north and a female entity looking to the south (Palomo‚ 2023). The location of nearby rock deposits suggests that this community had sophisticated knowledge of techniques to move heavy loads of rock through uneven terrain.   Parque Arqueol&;oacute;gico de San Agust&;iacute;n by Sandra Helena Gonz&;aacute;lez‚ 2018. Source: Banco de la Rep&;uacute;blica   What is peculiar about this culture is that it vanished from the historical record among local inhabitants. They knew about the monolithic rests but could not identify the makers and the purposes of such sculptures and temples (Duque‚ 2017). Ritual elements‚ residential units‚ mortuary temples‚ and tombs caught the attention of explorers in the times of the Conquest of the Americas in the 18th century. This led to pillaging from former explorers who were seeking treasures and wealth. However‚ even when the archaeological region was considered a site of national interest‚ robberies and looting did not stop.   Animal figure with crooked fingers. Source: Deutsche Digitale Bibliothek and the Ethnologisches Museum‚ Berlin   In the 18th century‚ the first person who accounted San Agustin’s lithic industry was the Spanish Franciscan priest Juan de Santa Gertrudis‚ who arrived on the continent in 1755. This was the period when Spanish colonial power settled in what was known as the Viceroyalty of Nueva Granada. Juan de Santa Gertrudis published his “discoveries” in an essay called Maravillas de la Naturaleza (Marvels of Nature)‚ where he described San Agust&;iacute;n. Later‚ Francisco Jos&;eacute; de Caldas in 1797 and Agust&;iacute;n Codazzi in the mid-19th century made considerable contributions to the illustration of the archaeological site and opened doors for archaeological interest from Colombian researchers in the 19th and 20th centuries (Palomo‚ 2023).   German archaeologist Konrad Theodor Preuss was the first scientist to research the archeological sites. He arrived in the Colombian city of Barranquilla in 1913 and traveled down the River Magdalena until he reached the region where the sculptures were covered by soil and vegetation. Fascinated by his discoveries‚ he illegally packed 21 statues and sent them to Europe‚ now retained by the Ethnological Museum in Berlin (Silva‚ 2016). There is an active campaign for repatriating these sculptures from the Ethnological Museum in Berlin in present times.   The constant uncontrolled looting of the archaeological pieces continued‚ making the state buy lands and properties and declare the zone an archaeological protected region in 1941 (Duque‚ 2017). Some decades later‚ the park was declared a national monument in 1993 and inscribed in UNESCO’s World Heritage list in 1995.   Where Did This Community Come From&;#63; Arte Monumental Prehist&;oacute;rico‚ Plancha 15‚ by Konrad Preuss‚ 1931. Source: Ensayos Hist&;oacute;ricos y Arqueol&;oacute;gicos   Colombian archaeological research proposes a timeline that sets this culture’s formation period from 1000 BCE to the 1st century CE (Duque‚ 2017). However‚ more recent research proposes earlier origins to even 3000 BCE (Gonz&;aacute;lez‚ 2013). The period where it is believed all the monolithic monuments and lithic temples were built is called the Classical Regional Period and corresponds to the 1st century CE to 900 CE (Duque‚ 2017). It is believed that the culture of San Agust&;iacute;n gathered different social settlements that shared common social structures and beliefs with origins in the Amazon Jungle (Gonz&;aacute;lez‚ 2013).   It is still unknown why‚ at the time of the Conquest of Colombia‚ the monuments were abandoned in the place where one of the main pre-Hispanic Colombian cultures inhabited. The lithic temples and residencies were believed to have been left behind around 1530‚ only a few decades after Christopher Columbus inaugurated the colonial era in the Americas. Because of the size of the monuments‚ which are lower in size than those of other more popularized pre-Hispanic cultures‚ such as the Inca (Tahuantisuyo)‚ Maya-Mexica‚ or Aztec‚ the nature rapidly covered most of the rocks‚ hiding them from explorers and inhabitants’ gaze.   The lithic architecture and mythical representation Excavation in Quinchana with worker by Luis Duque G&;oacute;mez‚ 1946. Source: Ensayos Hist&;oacute;ricos y Arqueol&;oacute;gicos   The houses are believed to have been built with wooden pillars stuck on a circular platform. The walls were made of bahareque‚ an ancient building technique found in many communities in the Americas that consisted of a mixture of mud and hay intercalated with wooden sticks. The roofs consisted of conical structures made of hay. The residential units sometimes were mixed with mortuary functions and have been found dispersed around the territory and not as urban clusters.   Local archaeology suggests that mortuary temples served as places for commemorating the death of relevant social people who were believed to have a special connection with spiritual forces (J&;aacute;uregui‚ 2022). This suggests that there was a hierarchized social structure linked to cosmological entities that were represented in the ceremonial sculptures.   Archaeological Park of San Agustin by Martin Gray. Source: Sacred Sites‚ UNESCO   Although the meaning of all lithic representations remains unknown‚ most of the lithic industry of San Agustin consisted of monumental representation and a characteristic symbolical style of naturalism and mythical zoomorphic and anthropomorphic. These entities were represented with detailed carved features and the use of color and pigments. Many statues represent life and death‚ the forces of nature‚ felines‚ reptiles‚ and mythical ancestry (Arango‚ 2010).   El doble-yo by Luis Alejandro Bernal Romero. Source: Wikimedia Commons   Some design motifs include a squared mouth with prominent fangs related to the myth of the Jaguar found in other Amazonian indigenous communities that inhabit the region nowadays. The representation of the duality of eagle-snake and other animals also repeats and has been found among other pre-Hispanic civilizations (Arango‚ 2010).   Other details include small facial details such as soft smiles and head and wrist accessories. Most of the statues show the articulation of animal forms and a basic human figure‚ which shows a different way of thinking from Western civilization. Instead of conceiving nature from the perspective of culture‚ these images represent a zoomorphic vision of nature or culture conceived from the perception of nature (Velandia‚ 1999).   One of the most beautiful sites is the fountain of Lavapatas‚ a series of channels carved in the stone where a small river runs down the hill. In this place‚ carved figures have been found‚ and the site is believed to be used for ritual and ceremonial purification rites (Duque‚ 2017). The architectural constructions have also revealed the community’s deep knowledge of astronomy‚ yearly cycles‚ and astral alignments.   The Current State of the San Agust&;iacute;n La Chaquira‚ Iroz‚ 2009. Source: Wikimedia Commons   The archaeological site of San Agust&;iacute;n opened research paths for the development of Colombian archaeology as a formal discipline. It has posited the relevant question about the still unknown origins of pre-Hispanic cultures‚ whose routes of migration and adaptative processes are still subject to research. As with many other archaeological sites that foreign explorers discovered‚ San Agustin joins the list of archaeological sites whose material culture is retained in places where they do not belong.   Nowadays‚ San Agustin is one of the main tourist attractions in Colombia for those interested in history and culture. The national interest that generated the remains in the 20th century and the inscription of the park as a World’s Cultural Heritage in the 90s have created a space for reflection on the origins of Colombian communities and the preservation of the stones and temples that rise in an extensive terrain dedicated only to archaeological research and cultural promotion.   Bibliography   Arango‚ T. A Prayer to Release Sinful Anger – Your Daily Prayer – April 29

A Prayer to Release Sinful AngerBy Emily Rose Massey &;quot;Be angry‚ and yet do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger‚ and do not give the devil an opportunity.” – Ephesians 4:26-27‚ NASB The other day‚ my husband and I got into a heated argument. We both became so angry with one another that we continued to go in circles and rehash the argument. I found myself not thinking clearly and saying things that were hurtful towards my husband‚ things that I did not believe to be true. I constantly interrupted my husband with what I wanted to say and never let him voice his concerns. In my frustration‚ I became so exhausted and confused that I didn't have any energy to continue the conversation.  Thankfully‚ before we drifted off to sleep‚ we both took some time to calm down and began to apologize for our anger and hurtful words. Knowing that anger that is not restrained can often lead to sin‚ and in this case‚ it did‚ we both repented to the Lord and to each other. The Bible provides much instruction and wisdom regarding the sin of unrestrained anger. In the book of Ephesians‚ the Apostle Paul makes an interesting and helpful correlation between sinful anger and the schemes of the enemy: &;quot;Be angry‚ and yet do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger‚ and do not give the devil an opportunity.” –  Ephesians 4:26-27‚ ESV Paul doesn't say‚ &;quot;Don't be angry;&;quot; he merely says do not sin in your anger. Anger isn't evil‚ yet anger can easily become the occasion for sin if we are not guarding our hearts. The Lord created us with a ray of emotions and understands that it is completely normal to experience overwhelming feelings when we are stressed‚ disappointed‚ offended‚ rejected‚ and hurt-especially anger. In Ephesians 4‚ we read that being angry is going to happen‚ but that is not the issue. The issue arises when we do not control our emotions and allow our anger to consume us so much that it causes us to react to that anger in sinful words or actions.  For me‚ when I struggle with this sinful behavior the most‚ I can often allow myself to outburst by yelling at my children‚ slamming doors behind me‚ or saying hurtful words towards the ones that I deeply love. When I allow myself to lose control in those situations‚ the enemy is given an opportunity to cause destruction in both my own life and others. If anger is not controlled‚ it can lead to more destructive behavior. Jesus even tells us in the Sermon on the Mount that anger toward a brother is equivalent to murder (Matthew 5). God is after our heart‚ and He does not want anger to remain in it and breed more sin. Obviously‚ I see how my flesh and the enemy can lure me into those kinds of sinful behaviors when my emotions get the best of me‚ but I don't have to take the bait. Anger will inevitably come‚ but I can choose to process those emotions with the Lord and with those with whom I am feeling angry. It is not healthy to go to sleep angry either‚ so it is important to settle those frustrations quickly so that reconciliation and peace can be found. We must release the anger and not allow bitterness and resentment to take root. When anger leads us to act out sinfully‚ we are given an opportunity to run to the throne of grace and receive Christ's mercy when we repent for our sins. God is faithful to forgive us and strengthen us with His grace to overcome every temptation to lash out in anger. May the Lord help us renew our minds with His Word and give us the patience we need to endure frustrations with self-control as we release anger to Him. Let's pray: Heavenly Father‚Your Word has so much to say on the sin of unrestrained anger‚ yet we give in to this temptation all the time when we are challenged by our selfishness. I repent for sinning against those who have been made in Your image when I did not prefer them above myself and allowed my words or actions to cause pain. I know anger will present itself in my heart‚ but I do not have to be trapped by it or consumed by it. I trust that You will provide a way of escape when I am tempted to sin in my anger. Holy Spirit‚ help me look to You for help to handle those overwhelming feelings. Thank You‚ Holy Spirit‚ for Your grace to empower me to release anger to You and walk more Christ-like. In Jesus' name‚ Amen. How To Be Confident in Your Next Decision – Encouragement for Today – April 29‚ 2024

April 29‚ 2024 How To Be Confident in Your Next DecisionALICIA BRUXVOORT Lee en espa&;ntilde;ol &;quot;Hold on to instruction‚ do not let it go; guard it well‚ for it is your life.&;quot; Proverbs 4:13 (NIV) I walked out of the caf&;eacute;‚ clutching that piece of paper like it had the power to change my life. A few months earlier‚ my husband and I had graduated from college and embarked on an overseas move. We'd taken a crash course in a language we didn't speak‚ secured housing in a city we'd never visited‚ and embraced jobs with cultural challenges we'd never faced. And we were floundering. We were navigating the biggest transition of our life - and we found ourselves sinking beneath the weight of everyday decisions. We longed for help‚ but we didn't know where to find it. Chances are ... you know that longing too. Life can feel like an endless string of choices to be made and options to be weighed. Sometimes the heft of it all kidnaps our confidence and saps our strength. But when I met up with a co-worker at a local caf&;eacute;‚ she pulled a piece of paper from her purse and laid it on the table between us. &;quot;I remember how overwhelmed I felt when we first moved here‚&;quot; she said with a kind smile. &;quot;So I wrote down everything I could think of that might help you.&;quot; I scanned her blue-inked scrawl through a haze of tears and marveled at the generous gift. The page held answers to questions I'd yet to ask and directions for decisions I hadn't known how to make. I was so thankful for this friend’s advice. In fact‚ her well-timed words reminded me of an even more important source of help for the daily challenges that come my way. God's Word is full of enduring guidance for our everyday lives. The Bible isn't just filled with age-old stories to inspire us; it's packed with practical wisdom to counsel us. And if we ask God to reveal His Truth to us as we meet Him in the pages of His Word‚ we'll find direction for our everyday decisions. Perhaps that's why Proverbs 4:13 urges us to &;quot;hold on to instruction‚ do not let it go; guard it well‚ for it is your life.&;quot; The words &;quot;hold on&;quot; paint a picture of clenching something tightly so it doesn't slip away‚ much like I clutched that faintly lined paper when I left the caf&;eacute; long ago. If we take hold of Scripture with this kind of intentionality - clinging to its Truth as we move through our days - we'll be armed with wisdom for the challenges we face‚ endowed with confidence for the choices we make. Because God's Word doesn't just point us to the glory of heaven; it equips us to walk across the grit of earth too. And when we allow the Lord's guidance to direct our everyday steps‚ we discover the Bible really does have the power to change our lives‚ one word of wisdom at a time. Dear Jesus‚ thank You for the gift of Your Word. Please mentor me with Your wisdom and show me how to align my steps with Your Truth. In Jesus' Name‚ Amen. OUR FAVORITE THINGS If God has felt silent as you've sought His wisdom and direction‚ we have good news: There is a way to hear His voice in His Word‚ giving the guidance you need. The Most Important Article I’ve Ever Published&;#63;

I was doing a livestream on Rumble earlier and something came out of my mouth I hadn’t planned on saying… Actually‚ let’s be honest — a lot comes out of my mouth often without planning on saying it ahead of time&;#33; Can you relate&;#63; But this one kind of hit me right in the moment. I said “I think this is the most important article I’ve published in a very long time&;#33;  Perhaps ever&;#33;” Bold statement right&;#63; It seemed bold even to me in the moment‚ but of course I realized it is true. It’s right out of Matthew 12:34: For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. So true. Here’s the video where I said it (a lot of great stuff in here): So…what article was I talked about&;#63; I’ve published the full article below. My Mission since 2015 has been to publish the TRUTH the MSM does not want you to know about. That has been largely politics and political truth‚ but there is so much evil and deception around your HEALTH that I’m starting to expose that BIG LEAGUE (to quote a guy I know…) If you have daughters or grandkids or even know any young people struggling with this‚ I think this is monumentally important. Please take this to heart: Popular Makeup Lines Disrupt Hormones‚ Cause Major Fertility Issues&;#63; You learn something new every day… And this was a big one for me. In hindsight‚ it makes perfect sense but I had never really thought about it. In fact‚ when someone started telling me about this‚ I said “Wait‚ hold up…say that again&;#63;  What did you say&;#63;” And so they told me again….and then I researched it…..and this article is the result of that journey. Some of you may already know this but this may be a similar stunning wake up call for many of you like it was for me. (Be sure to read to the end because I’m not just going to give you the problem‚ I’m going to give you the solution&;#33;) So basically‚ the premise is this: studies have now shown that many popular makeup brands have “EDCs” in them. EDC stands for Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals. According to EHN.org‚ Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals can have the following major health consequences: For the reproductive system‚ these harms include: Genital malformations Cancers of the reproductive organs Early female puberty Early menopause Lowered sperm counts Infertility Miscarriage Low birth weights These chemicals are also linked to many inflammatory and chronic diseases‚ including: Obesity and other forms of metabolic dysfunction Diabetes Cardiovascular disease Hormone-sensitive cancers Autoimmune disorders Allergies and asthma EDCs can also harm the brain and nervous system. Prenatal and childhood exposure is linked to: Lower IQ Memory and attention deficits Developmental delays Depression Neurodegenerative disorders such as Parkinson’s Take a look at that first grouping and then ask yourself if it’s any wonder so many young couples are suddenly facing infertility issues. It’s such a private thing that people don’t talk about very often‚ but I would bet you probably know someone in your life right now facing infertility issues. And the cause may be EDCs…. Specifically‚ the EDCs that we are rubbing all over our skin each day&;#33; The enemy is within the building folks&;#33; The enemy is in the expensive creams and lotions that we pay so much money for and then rub all over our skin. As someone who has young daughters at home‚ this one hits REALLY close to home. How about you&;#63; In fact‚ studies are now showing that ON AVERAGE young women use EIGHT personal-care products a day that contain EDCs&;#33; Are you kidding me&;#63; And some were as high as 17: WOMEN’S PERSONAL-CARE PRODUCTS AND REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH. According to the following study‚ young women use at least eight personal-care products a day that contain known endocrine-disrupting chemicals. Some of the women in the study used up to 17. pic.twitter.com/tUVs66h5Fn — RAW EGG NATIONALIST (@Babygravy9) July 21‚ 2023 But is this really any big surprise&;#63; They are poisoning us with the food we eat (mRNA steaks anyone&;#63;)‚ the air we breathe (hello chemtrails&;#33;)….is it really any wonder there would also be poison in what we rub on our skin&;#63; Like I said — so obvious in hindsight‚ how did I not know this until now&;#63; I mean‚ think about it too…. God designed our skin to essentially be this giant solar panel. It takes in sunlight and then converts that to vital Vitamin D and other nutrients we need. Our skin is like the most advanced solar cell ever. So it’s receiving and taking in all sorts of things‚ of course it would be highly sensitive to taking in toxins. And where do we often rub creams and ointments&;#63; Often in sensitive places. Instant access for toxins. Man‚ this is some nasty stuff — but I have to warn you about it and maybe we can truly save some lives and improve some lives&;#33;&;#33; You’d better believe I’m making INSTANT changes for my daughters as they grow up&;#33; I’ve got a ton to show you about this‚ but let’s go here next: https://www.youtube.com/watch&;#63;v=fdq9hpp-wyA Here’s more from EHN.org: Endocrine-disrupting chemicals‚ also known as EDCs‚ are natural or human-made substances that interfere with the healthy functioning of the body’s endocrine system. The endocrine system is made up of glands throughout the body‚ along with the hormones that these glands produce and receptors that respond to the hormones. Endocrine glands include the pituitary‚ thymus‚ pancreas and adrenals. Hormones act like messengers‚ traveling through the body to deliver instructions that control biological processes ranging from growth and development to sleep‚ digestion and childbirth. Humans have more than 50 hormones. These include estrogen and testosterone‚ which help to control sexual development‚ as well as the “feel good” hormones serotonin‚ endorphins and oxytocin‚ which regulate mood‚ along with many other processes. Endocrine-disrupting chemicals change how the endocrine system works. Some EDCs are chemically similar to our hormones and mimic their effects in the body. Others block the action of hormones‚ increase or decrease their levels‚ or affect how the body responds. Because the endocrine system is extremely sensitive‚ endocrine disruptors can be hazardous in tiny amounts‚ such as one part per trillion — the equivalent of one drop of water in 20 Olympic-sized swimming pools. Some of these substances‚ such as lead‚ are so harmful that there is no known level of exposure that is not considered dangerous to some degree. According to one estimate‚ there are roughly 1‚000 endocrine disrupting chemicals currently in use. However‚ this number is likely an undercount. There are hundreds of thousands of synthetic chemicals‚ and only a small percentage have been assessed for their effects on the endocrine system. What’s clear from these studies‚ and others‚ is that personal-care products are one of the most significant sources of exposure to endocrine-disrupting chemicals for women. If you’re worried about your reproductive health‚ ditch them or find natural alternatives. pic.twitter.com/FvVCuPQoez — RAW EGG NATIONALIST (@Babygravy9) July 21‚ 2023 Ok‚ so now you’re probably saying I get it‚ this is terrible‚ but what can I do&;#63; You’re right‚ the situation IS bleak… In fact‚ every brand you see in this wheel below is owned by the 11 corporations shown below: But it’s actually much worse than that…. Because those 11 corporations are mostly owned by THREE corporations: BlackRock… Vanguard… …and State Street&;#33; It’s called the ILLUSION of choice: You’re not going to find the solution in that wheel… Or in your local grocery store…. Definitely not at Wal-Mart or Target. Nope&;#33; Those are EDC havens folks&;#33; NO THANK YOU&;#33; So‚ what’s the solution&;#63; How about this: There’s only one pro-American‚ American made and manufactured‚ chemical free‚ toxin free‚ hormone free‚ company left….and I’m teaming up with them to FIGHT BACK&;#33; This is the company I’ve partnered up with on my new Mission that I keep talking about. We launched the new Mission in February‚ but this company has been doing this for over 38 years&;#33;&;#33; Talk about a track record. Watch this: https://switchwithnoah.com Backup here if that doesn’t play: Want in&;#63; It’s invite only….https://t.co/9cjSEFFqKF pic.twitter.com/aRfYggpCGo — DailyNoah.com (@DailyNoahNews) July 26‚ 2023 It’s Invite Only but the invite is completely free&;#33; In fact‚ I’ve assembled a team of patriots who will personally get you invited and signed up….if you want in. Folks‚ we don’t have many strongholds left. This is one. And I’m all in. If you’d like to find out more and get a FREE personal invite‚ just go here:  http://bit.ly/3E5K89d Tell them Noah sent you and I promise you will get a personal call‚ text or email. Don’t freak out when you do. I know I tend to get concerned when I get messages from numbers I don’t recognize‚ but if you request a Free Invite (Link here: http://bit.ly/3E5K89d) you WILL have someone from my Inner Circle reach out to you….so be ready&;#33; These are awesome people and I think you’ll love getting a chance to talk with them. And they’ll help get you all set up. Then put me to the test… I’ve had people take their products and run them through the most detailed‚ scientific lab testing possible and they pass with flying colors. NO EDC’S&;#33; SAFE&;#33; NON-TOXIC&;#33; Who’s with me&;#63; NOTE: am I saying we can CURE infertility&;#63;  No‚ absolutely not.  Am I saying that you should consider getting as far away from EDCs as you can&;#63;  100% yes.  Let’s start there and see what happens&;#63;  Sound good&;#63; What is the primary medical credo&;#63; DO NO HARM. How about if we cut off the products that are doing harm and then we see where we go from there&;#63; That good with everyone&;#63; – Noah p.s. Since everyone gets personal attention‚ we will take these in the order in which they come in.  So if you are excited‚ ask for your invite now or you might be far down on the list.  I have a great team‚ but they can only do so much and they’ll work on a first-come‚ first-served basis.
