Gwen Stefani’s Son Takes The Stage At Blake Shelton’s Bar For His Country Music Debut

Gwen Stefani has entertained us with her unmatched talent and style for decades, so It’s no surprise that her sons got the music bug, as their father is Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale, and their stepdad is country superstar Blake Shelton. Gwen’s middle son, 15-year-old Zuma Rossdale, recently made his country music debut with his doting stepdad close by. Zuma performed live for a crowd at Blake’s entertainment venue in Oklahoma, Ole Red Tishomingo. Blake introduced Zuma, who took the stage looking like a true country star in a cowboy hat and boots. He strummed his guitar with passion as his stepdad looked on with pride. Zuma Rossdale making his Country Music Debut @OleRed Tishomingo!! So glad I was there!! @blakeshelton @gwenstefani pic.twitter.com/cpZxzlLREw— Jamie McGaugh (@JamieMc73) July 30, 2024 The performance made its way to social media, with one fan sharing her excitement on X, “Zuma Rossdale making his Country Music Debut @OleRed Tishomingo!! So glad I was there!!” Jamie McGaugh posted. “Zuma tearing into it!! You sound so good, Zuma!!” A fan wrote. This person agreed, “Thank you so much for sharing! He sounds absolutely amazing.”Another shouted out to Blake about his positive influence on his stepsons. “How exciting. Zuma and King. Apollo’s next. What a great stepdad. He’s really assumed such a wonderful role in their family.” Blake Shelton Loves The Boys And Has Made Them An Important Part of His Life Although Blake has no biological children, he takes his relationship with Zuma and Gwen Stefani’s other two sons, Kingston, 18, and Apollo, 10, very seriously. He told ET that he treats the boys as his own and that being a father changed his life. “I learned quickly, not because anything happened, but just, you know, reading the room, you’ve really got [to think], ‘I have to take a step back,” he said. “When people say it’s not about you anymore when you have a kid… I think, if you’re doing it right, it’s not about you anymore. That’s true.” You can find the source of this story’s featured image here. Golden Retriever Gets Popcorn-Themed Birthday Bash & Zoomies Ensue

Everybody loves birthdays, especially when they are decked out in your favorite theme. For this Golden Retriever, popcorn is his JAM! He loves his popcorn toys so much that his mama decided to throw him a popcorn-themed birthday bash. Watch the video to see his adorable reaction. @goldengirl_xena Happy Birthday buddy #goldenretrievers #dogsoftiktok ♬ original sound – goldengirl_xena Golden Retriever Popcorn Birthday Party TikTok. This birthday party really had it all. It featured popcorn-shaped cookies, popcorn balloons, a giant popcorn sign, and more! In the video, Finn’s mom wrote the question she was most asked, “Why did you have a popcorn-themed birthday party for Finn?” She responded, “Because the popcorn toys have always been his favorite.” From there, viewers were blessed with a beautiful video montage that highlights Finn’s favorite party moments. The first highlights Finn’s happy face as he holds a popcorn kernel toy in his smiling mouth. Next, he dives into a pile of toys on the couch. He brings them outside and even into the bathtub. So his mama knows just what to do. She brings an entire box of popcorn toys, the individual kernels, and the box. She then fills an inflatable swimming pool in the backyard and dumps all his new toys inside. The Happiness Of The Golden Retriever Popcorn Surprise TikTok Finn runs outside at lightning speed and immediately sticks his face into his pool of toys. He is so excited he doesn’t know which one to grab. However, as his mama says, “That happy tail tells me all I need to know.” Finn shows his new toys to his sister, and she races around. Now, it is a Golden Retriever popcorn party for two! The siblings can’t contain their excitement, and zoomies ensue. I’d say it was probably Finn’s best birthday yet. Oregon’s nurse-home visit program is a lifesaver for new parents

BY THE OPTIMIST DAILY EDITORIAL TEAM In the picturesque yet secluded landscape of Jefferson County, Oregon, new parents Matt and Amber Luman are navigating the early days of motherhood with the unexpected assistance of a trained nurse. Barb Ibrahim, an experienced nurse with over 30 years of expertise, unpacks her black suitcase in the Lumans’ kitchen, resembling Mary Poppins with her collection of equipment and gadgets. Her purpose was to check on the health of the Lumans’ newborn daughter, Esserley, as part of Oregon’s groundbreaking Family Connects program. Every family with a new newborn can receive a free home visit from a certified nurse through Family Connects, which is gradually being implemented across the state. This program is Oregon’s answer to a troubling reality: the United States has one of the highest baby and mother mortality rates among developed countries. New parents in the United States typically receive just brief check-ins at their pediatrician’s office, creating a substantial gap in support during a key period. Addressing a national crisis “Babies don’t come with instructions,” observed Barb Ibrahim, commenting on the difficulties encountered by new parents. Her visit to the Luman household exemplifies Family Connects’ hands-on, personalized approach. Ibrahim’s responsibilities include weighing baby Esserley, taking her temperature, and examining the soft regions on her skull where bones have not yet fused. Among these check-ups, the most important aspect of the visit is the opportunity for parents to ask questions and seek help. Amber Luman, who is pursuing an online degree while Matt works at a video store, is grateful for the support. “Just having Barb here has helped me feel supported emotionally and improved my mental health — right in the thick of these first few, hard months of parenting,” Amber shared. The significance of Family Connects The program, which began in Durham, North Carolina, and is currently expanding in Oregon, provides one to three home visits by a nurse during the first few weeks of a baby’s life. Durham researchers discovered considerable benefits, including fewer emergency room visits and a lower prevalence of postpartum depression. Dr. Elizabeth Steiner, a family physician and state senator from Portland, spearheaded the program’s establishment in Oregon. Reflecting on her own experience with postpartum anxiety and depression, Steiner said, “Nobody should have to go through that. And having a trained nurse come into my home when my baby was two weeks old and say, ‘Ooooh, OK, let’s get you some help here,’ would have been transformative.” Real impact on real families Ibrahim’s visits have been a game-changer for the Lumans. Amber recalls Ibrahim helping with feeding strategies to alleviate Esserley’s gas issues. “You were telling me about the football hold,” Amber had said. “I tried it, but I couldn’t get it.” Ibrahim carefully demonstrates the hold again, exemplifying the program’s supportive nature. Veronica De Paz, another new mother in Jefferson County, welcomed the service’s accessibility. “Since I’m a first-time mom, I wanted [Ibrahim’s] advice. And [Ibrahim] told me, if I have any questions, I can always message her … And she always gets back to me.” Overcoming challenges Despite its established benefits, implementing Family Connects in Oregon has proved difficult. The pandemic has hampered progress, and finances remain an issue. The program is free for families, however it is not free to implement. Initially estimated at $400-$500 per household, the true cost in Oregon is closer to $1,300 due to the state’s rural nature and nursing shortages. “In Oregon, we have a lot of places where people live many, many miles apart,” Steiner stated. Costs rise as a result of this geographical spread and increased nurse wages. Nonetheless, Steiner feels the long-term advantages justified the cost, citing reduced child abuse investigations and improved overall family health results. A promising future for Oregon families As Ibrahim concludes her visit with the Lumans, she takes Amber’s blood pressure and inquires about her health. “A little tired sometimes,” Amber acknowledges, “but I think it’s normal.” Before leaving, Ibrahim gives the family a sleep sack to make their nights easier, exemplifying the program’s blend of practical support and emotional reassurance. Family Connects not only improves immediate physical and emotional health, but it also connects families to other services. Nurses serve as clearinghouses for local aid ranging from mental health counseling to housing or food insecurity. This holistic approach ensures that families receive the comprehensive assistance they require to thrive. In a country where new parents frequently feel alienated and overwhelmed, Oregon’s Family Connects program is a ray of hope. By placing nurses in the homes of new families, the program provides critical support during one of life’s most difficult changes, laying the groundwork for healthier, happier communities. The post Oregon’s nurse-home visit program is a lifesaver for new parents first appeared on The Optimist Daily: Making Solutions the News.

Why glass food storage containers are a healthier, safer alternative to plastic

BY THE OPTIMIST DAILY EDITORIAL TEAM In the midst of a worldwide plastic calamity, small improvements at home can have a significant impact. One such adjustment is switching to glass food storage containers instead of plastic ones. This simple change not only reduces plastic consumption but also provides considerable health advantages and improves the quality of your stored food. The glass food container advantage Thermal resilience Temperature-wise, glass containers are extremely adaptable. “Unlike plastic, glass can get hot or cold, maintain its shape, and avoid any breakdown that could leach harmful chemicals,” says Trevor Craig, corporate director of technical training and consulting at Microbac Laboratories. This makes glass an ideal material for freezer storage and high-temperature dishwasher cycles. Superior sanitation Glass containers are significantly easier to clean than plastic ones. Craig explains, “Glass is non-porous, so it’s easier to clean. This means there are fewer stains and fewer places for food and bacteria to get into.” Plastic, as a porous material, may house bacteria and retain odors, making it less sanitary with time. Kate Reeder, MCN, RDN, LDN, adds that the porous nature of plastic allows particles to slip through and absorb, producing a breeding environment for bacteria. Longevity and sustainability Glass containers may be more expensive initially, but they provide better long-term value. “Glass lasts longer and can be reused and recycled,” Craig adds. Plastic containers, on the other hand, frequently lose their shape, shatter, or flake, demanding repeated replacements. Handling glass with care to avoid breakage maximizes the value of your investment while also decreasing future plastic waste. Tips for using plastic safely Despite the advantages of glass, there are some scenarios in which plastic containers may be more practical, such as for children’s lunches or on-the-go meals. In these situations, it is critical to choose the safest types of plastic. Craig suggests PET or PETE (polyethylene terephthalate), HDPE or LDPE (low and high-density polyethylene), and polypropylene. These are generally safe for food and are frequently identified on the bottom of the container or box. Always use plastic containers that are BPA-free. BPA, a chemical used to harden plastics, has been linked to a number of health problems, including endocrine disruption and cancer. Additionally, avoid reusing single-use plastic containers, such as takeout boxes or water bottles, because they are not intended for long-term use and might emit dangerous chemicals when degraded. Craig says, “Think of food containers as special plastic designed for short-term storage (days or weeks)—not single-use plastic items like wraps, utensils, or bottles.” Make sure your plastic containers are microwave, dishwasher, and freezer safe, but never put them in the oven. Making the switch to glass If you’re ready to make the transition to glass, begin by gradually replacing your old plastic containers with glass. Look for sets that are long-lasting and adaptable to a variety of temperatures. Handle them gently to avoid damage. In circumstances where plastic is inevitable, observe the safety tips above and always discard damaged plastic containers. Craig suggests verifying local recycling legislation to properly dispose of plastics, adding that not all types are recyclable. Switching to glass food storage containers is a tiny but significant step you can make to reduce plastic consumption and enhance your overall health. Glass has advantages such as temperature resistance, greater sanitation, and durability. When plastic is required, use the safest varieties and adhere to recommended procedures to reduce health concerns. Making informed decisions helps you live a better lifestyle and contributes to a cleaner environment. The post Why glass food storage containers are a healthier, safer alternative to plastic first appeared on The Optimist Daily: Making Solutions the News.
