We Finally Know What Agatha All Along Is About (Kind of)

News Agatha All Along We Finally Know What Agatha All Along Is About (Kind of) A teen named…Teen? By Vanessa Armstrong | Published on July 30, 2024 Credit: Marvel Studios Comment 0 Share New Share Credit: Marvel Studios We know the basics of Agatha All Along, the Disney+ show that centers on Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn), the villain of the Marvel Cinematic Universe series WandaVision. One thing we know is the main cast—in addition to Hahn it stars Aubrey Plaza, Heartstopper’s Joe Locke, and Emma Caulfield Ford, who reprises her WandaVision role of Dottie. Other than that, we don’t know much, including the plot. In an interview with Empire, however, showrunner Jac Schaeffer (who also oversaw WandaVision) shared some details about what’s in store for Agatha. Schaeffer told Empire that Agatha, who at the end of WandaVision had no memory of her witchy past, remembers all but remains powerless. “Then, this mysterious goth teen [played by Locke] shows up in her life,” Schaeffer said. “It’s his idea to travel the Witches’ Road to get her power back. But in order to go on the Road, you’ve got to get a coven together. So how does a witch that no one’s going to trust get a band of sisters together?” Locke’s character is only called “Teen” in the scripts, so odds are good that he has some secret backstory that will be revealed in the series. “He’s a familiar; he’s like the assistant to the coven,” Locke teased to Empire. “Teen is a big fan of witchcraft and witches, so for him to be taken under Agatha Harkness’ wing and form a coven and go down the Witches’ Road is his dream. He’s fanboy-esque, and in his element. Which is very fun—because I was [too]!” Locke also said that when Schaeffer sent images of the set to Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige, he replied, “Oh my God, we’re making The Goonies.” The Goonies, Agatha-style? It’s an intriguing premise. Hahn also shared that we’ll learn more about what makes her character tick in the upcoming episodes. “We’ve seen her with all her bravado and crazy confidence,” she said. “So much of Agatha is performance. It was exciting to get to the kernel under the sass and sarcasm and taking pleasure in other people’s pain. There’s something broken under that, big-time.” The first two episodes of Agatha All Along premieres on Disney+ on September 18, 2024. The remaining seven episodes will drop weekly until November 6, 2024. [end-mark] The post We Finally Know What <i>Agatha All Along</i> Is About (Kind of) appeared first on Reactor.

The Wheel of Time’s Dónal Finn Joins Young Sherlock as Moriarty

News Young Sherlock The Wheel of Time’s Dónal Finn Joins Young Sherlock as Moriarty Elementary, my dear Mat By Molly Templeton | Published on July 30, 2024 Comment 0 Share New Share Dónal Finn is going from one epic adaptation to another—though the second will presumably involve fewer elaborate costumes and less magic. Variety reports that the actor, who plays Mat Cauthon on The Wheel of Time, has been cast in Young Sherlock, the Prime Video series based on Andy Lane’s Young Sherlock Holmes YA series. He will play James Moriarty, famously the archnemesis of Sherlock (though presumably not, at this point in his life, a professor just yet). Young Sherlock is directed by Guy Ritchie, who has spent some time with Holmes before, and has as showrunner and writer Matthew Parkhill (Rogue, Deep State). Prime Video describes the series like this: With all the wit and charm of Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes features, Young Sherlock will be an irreverent, action-packed origin story of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s beloved detective in an explosive re-imagining of this iconic character. At age 19, Sherlock Holmes is disgraced, raw, unfiltered, and unformed, when he finds himself caught up in a murder mystery at Oxford University which threatens his freedom. Diving into his first-ever case with a wild lack of discipline, Sherlock manages to unravel a globe-trotting conspiracy that will change his life forever. Hero Fiennes Tiffin is set to play Sherlock Holmes; his parents will be played by Natascha McElhone and Ralph Fiennes (who is Fiennes Tiffin’s real-life uncle). Colin Firth and Zine Tseng (3 Body Problem) also star in the show; Firth is playing Sir Bucephalus Hodge, while Tseng is playing Princess Gulun Shou’an, who is described by Deadline as a “Chinese Princess, Oxford University Scholar and skilled martial-artist.” Finn is a busy man; along with Wheel of Time and this new series, he’s been starring in Hadestown in London, but his time with that show wraps up August 25th. With this new role, he joins a long line of takes on Moriarty that includes, in recent years, Andrew Scott (Sherlock), Jared Harris (Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows), Natalie Dormer (Elementary), and Ralph Fiennes (Holmes & Watson). There’s no word yet when Young Sherlock will arrive on Prime.[end-mark] The post <i>The Wheel of Time</i>’s Dónal Finn Joins <i>Young Sherlock</i> as Moriarty appeared first on Reactor.

House Bill Would Codify Sex as Male and Female, Not Gender Identity or Expression

A Republican congresswoman from Illinois has introduced a bill to clearly define sex based on biology, rather than ideology. “As a mother and grandmother, I am deeply concerned by the Biden administration’s illegal rewrite of Title IX, endangering our daughters and granddaughters in sports and locker rooms,” Rep. Mary Miller, R-Ill., told The Daily Signal. “My bill simply recognizes the most distinct differences of our humanity—our maleness and femaleness.” “The Defining Male and Female Act will enshrine these definitions in federal law, preventing future departments and administrations from redefining this fundamental characteristic,” she explained. The Defining Male and Female Act of 2024—co-sponsored by Republican Reps. Debbie Lesko of Arizona, Lisa McClain of Michigan, Anna Paulina Luna of Florida, Lauren Boebert of Colorado, Claudia Tenney of New York, Barry Moore of Alabama, Greg Steube of Florida, Doug LaMalfa of California, Keith Self of Texas, Michael Guest of Mississippi, and Alex Mooney of West Virginia—is intended to combat the Biden administration’s attempted Title IX rule change. President Joe Biden’s April revisions to Title IX—the 1972 federal law that prohibits sex-based discrimination in federally funded education programs—include adding “gender identity” to the list of sex-based protections. That would allow males in female sports and private spaces. Biden’s proposed changes were supposed to take effect on Aug. 1, but they have been blocked by a number of federal court injunctions across the country. The Miller bill establishes that there are only two sexes—male and female. “To prevent further efforts to undermine the long-standing meaning and understanding of sex—male, female, and related terms—it is necessary for Congress to reaffirm and codify the meaning of these terms,” the bill says. Rare sexual development disorders are not exceptions to the binary nature of sex, the bill establishes. The legal equality of men and women does not mean that they are the same in every respect, so it’s not unequal treatment under the law to have separate male and female facilities, the bill’s text says. A female is “an individual who naturally has, had, will have, or would have, but for a developmental or genetic anomaly or historical accident, the reproductive system that at some point produces, transports, and utilizes eggs for fertilization,” and a male is an “individual who naturally has, had, will have, or would have, but for a developmental or genetic anomaly or historical accident, the reproductive system that at some point produces, transports, and utilizes sperm for fertilization,” according the bill. Miller’s legislation establishes “gender” as a synonym for sex, not a synonym for “gender identity,” “experienced gender,” “gender expression,” or “gender roles.” The post House Bill Would Codify Sex as Male and Female, Not Gender Identity or Expression appeared first on The Daily Signal.

Beyond Taiwan: Decoding China’s Unprecedented Military Posturing

As Americans focus on the presidential election campaign and domestic political uncertainty, China’s large-scale military exercises loom on the horizon after an unusually provocative summer of such activity. Tensions across the Taiwan Strait simmer and a standoff with the Philippines persists in the South China Sea, and China is becoming more direct with America and its allies, indicating its approach is evolving quickly. First, activity over the Taiwan Strait by China’s air force (the People’s Liberation Army Air Force) has remained at elevated levels since 2021, but recently set new records.   On July 11, for example, 66 Chinese aircraft were detected over the Taiwan Strait, the highest single-day activity this year. Even more concerning, 56 of the aircraft crossed over Taiwan’s side of the strait, constituting the highest single-day crossing of the median line since recordkeeping began in 2020. China’s increased military activity also led to the highest recorded 10-day average median line crossing: 23.4 aircraft. Such crossings are highly provocative. That said, activity over the past few months continues an upward trend. The recent wave of intimidation by the Chinese air force, known as PLAAF, began soon after a July 10 meeting between the top U.S. envoy to Taiwan, Raymond Greene, and Taiwan President Lai Ching-te. Greene pledged increased measures to defend Taiwan, and his visit remains the most plausible reason for China’s response, given historical precedent. But it’s worth noting that the Chinese escalation also coincided with NATO’s 75th-anniversary summit in Washington, which ran from July 9 through 11, where China was mentioned on multiple occasions. With surprisingly stern language, the NATO summit’s communique warns that “the stated ambitions and coercive policies [of the Chinese Communist Party] continue to challenge [NATO’s] interests, security and values.” The alliance’s communique reiterates that China “cannot enable the largest war in Europe in recent history without this negatively impacting its interests and reputation.” In all, China is mentioned 14 times in the document, demonstrating NATO’s first clear acknowledgment that transatlantic security is now deeply intertwined with issues emanating from the Indo-Pacific. Participation by South Korea, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand in the NATO summit further signals the alliance’s deepening concern for the region and how a war there would affect European security. In response to NATO’s statements, China’s Ministry of Defense offered stern words of its own on the same day as the communist regime’s record aircraft activity over Taiwan. China insisted NATO’s statements constitute “belligerent rhetoric,” making clear that China “will firmly uphold its own sovereignty, security and development interest.” China’s dissatisfaction with the U.S.-led world order and its reach in the Indo-Pacific is well known, and that animosity is being played out increasingly in military shows of force. Chinese and Russian forces also gathered June 25 near the Blagoveshchensk–Heihe Bridge, which connects Russia and northeast China. According to China Military, a publication funded by the People’s Liberation Army, priorities included “encirclement and capture operations” within the domains of “aerial reconnaissance, surface interception, and ambushes on the shore.” China said the motivation for the military exercise was to combat separatism—a justification especially significant considering that China quickly labeled Lai, Taiwan’s president, a “separatist” after his May 20 inauguration. China’s summer activity is expanding to include a variety of other military exercises. On July 13, China carried out multiple waves of missile tests in Inner Mongolia. China’s Rocket Force, responsible for the tests, likely will play a critical role in the regime’s military operations in a war over Taiwan’s future. As such, these tests also serve as preparation for a potential Taiwan war scenario and for more provocative exercises with the Chinese navy and air force during exercises expected soon in the South China Sea. If these missile tests are deemed successful by Chinese leader Xi Jinping, he may decide to execute a more complex and provocative challenge in the region. NATO’s concern is reinforced by China’s increasingly apparent support of Russia in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war. More directly, China and Belarus began joint exercises July 8 dubbed Eagle Assault 2024. This coincided with a visit to Warsaw by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, during which Ukraine and Poland signed a security agreement. The China-Belarus military exercise took place just 17 miles from the Ukraine border and 2 miles from Poland. Like Russia, Belarus is a member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, a Eurasian economic and security coalition. This partnership provides China with an impetus for a greater military presence in Europe, but how it serves China’s strategic interests is less clear. However, this military exercise, planned well in advance and coinciding with the NATO summit in Washington, certainly underscores China’s dismay with Europe’s demurring on Chinese trade and increasing realization of it as a threat. Earlier this month, China also deepened military cooperation with the United Arab Emirates and Laos, respectively, through two exercises: Falcon Shield 2024 and Friendship Shield 2024. While noteworthy, neither exercise raised a red flag militarily. But the exercises did demonstrate China’s continued willingness to engage favorably with partners who are amenable to accepting its position on Taiwan. In the South China Sea, a familiar hotspot, China and Russia are increasing joint military engagement, as they are elsewhere. On July 14, Joint Sea 2024 began at a naval port in Zhanjiang, southern China, headquarters for China’s South Sea fleet. Both countries conducted a variety of anti-submarine and air defense exercises. At the same time, a separate Chinese-Russian naval patrol entered the South China Sea, passing close to Japanese islands, in what the two nations described as a routine operations unrelated to the geopolitical climate. The joint forces simulated missile firing and cross-deck landing operations and carried out gun drills. Military exercises are routinely scheduled during the summer months. But the recent activity amid regional and global tensions demonstrates an unusual increase in Beijing’s risk-taking not seen in previous years. China also is finding ways to test the United States more directly. Case in point: Chinese and Russian bomber aircraft were detected July 25 and intercepted by NORAD as they flew into the Alaska Air Defense Identification Zone off the coast of Alaska. This is the latest example of China and Russia’s deepening defense ties and marks the first time two U.S. adversaries deployed strategic bombers together near the United States. The Chinese aircraft in question was the H-6 bomber, capable of carrying nuclear weapons and sometimes active over the Taiwan Strait. This latest Alaska incident came just weeks after Chinese warships were detected July 6 and 7 near Alaska’s Aleutian Islands. While steering clear of territorial waters, the Chinese vessels passed into the exclusive U.S. economic zone. This marks the fourth consecutive year that China’s naval assets have been detected near Alaska—another component of China’s upward-trending assertiveness in the Pacific. Only days after that, the Chinese aircraft carrier Shandong, along with two missile destroyers and a frigate, made headlines as they passed close to the Philippines on the way to the Western Pacific to carry out another set of drills. In a departure from the norm, the carrier group didn’t pass through the Bashi Channel separating Taiwan and the Philippines, but instead went through the Balintang Channel, which runs between two groupings of some of the Philippines’ northernmost islands. This diversion, while subtle, signals continued aggression toward the Philippines, where U.S. Marines recently held joint exercises. Vietnam also has seen tension before with China in the South China Sea, but unlike the Philippines, Hanoi’s most recent Chinese-style artificial island expansion hasn’t drawn noticeable displeasure from Beijing. Since its positive diplomatic developments with both the U.S. and China last September and December, Vietnam has rapidly pursued island reclamation in the South China Sea. Discovery Great Reef, South Reef, Namyit Island, and Pearson Reef all received dozens of acres of land expansion since November, according to the Asia Maritime Transparency Initiative. Barque Canada Reef continues to be Vietnam’s largest outpost and recipient of recent efforts, gaining 174 acres of land over the past six months. In all, 692 acres have been added since November. This is up from 404 acres the prior year and represents a 100% increase in land reclamation since 2022. Manila’s seemingly minor actions prompted violent responses from Beijing and Western states’ diplomatic activities triggered military posturing, but China hasn’t condemned Vietnam’s sweeping reclamation campaign. Why is China choosing not to back down over the Philippines while simultaneously turning a blind eye to Vietnam’s recent surge of island-building in the same region? China’s selective enforcement of its own standards points to the likelihood that its reactions are reserved for the U.S. or actions that Beijing perceives to be prompted by or indirectly benefit the U.S. As tensions over Taiwan and features in the South China Sea reach a boiling point, efforts to understand Beijing’s thinking are paramount and could offer ways to better address and mitigate its escalations. America’s lack of strategic direction is commensurate with China’s recent threatening actions. Beijing’s timing, location, and choice of willing partners lessen the probability that its activities happen at the same time by coincidence and hold no greater meaning. Washington must be alert in the coming months, particularly around Thursday, Aug. 1, the anniversary of the founding of the People’s Liberation Army—a symbolic date that China often uses for strategic messaging. The United States has been in China’s crosshairs for years. But given its recent conduct, Beijing is more likely than ever to double down on its posturing and take on added risks with Washington and allies such as the Philippines. Gen Alpha is ditching social media, prefers YouTube and mobile games, study shows

A study of children's video consumption habits showed that the youngest generation prefers to use YouTube far more than other forms of media, including social sites. The survey of thousands of children ages 2-12, also known as Generation Alpha, asked about their daily media consumption. Surprisingly, the survey showed that youngsters are generally shifting away from social media platforms and focusing purely on video content. When asked how they had been consuming content recently, 81% of respondents said they had used YouTube, with the second highest response being subscription video-on-demand at 62%.Mobile games was the third-highest answer, with 55% of those surveyed saying they had played one of the games recently.'Hollywood propaganda is like snail mail, social and user-generated content is like e-mail.'These numbers were significantly higher than those of a traditional social media platform. Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat bottomed out the list of ways Gen Alpha is consuming video. However, the data — compiled by Giraffe Insights, Precise TV, and Variety — showed that children in that age group are increasingly consuming more content.Of 3,000 respondents, 9% more reported recently using YouTube in 2024 compared to 2023.TikTok had the highest jump year-over-year, with an 11-point increase from 33% to 44%.Snapchat was the only listed medium with a decrease in usage (2%); however, the "other" category also saw a drop (2%)."User-generated content is the most weaponized, beefed up propaganda in existence right now, so it's no surprise that it's the most compelling for the youngest generation," filmmaker Cody Clarke told Blaze News."Everything else entertainment-wise, while still propagandic, is anemic by comparison, or dinosaur-esque. Hollywood propaganda is like snail mail, social and user-generated content is like e-mail," Clarke continued. The data reflects that even streaming platforms are more popular among the youth than typical social media; 50% of the respondents reported watching the popular video game streaming site Twitch for between two and three hours per day, the highest response by far for that category.Clarke pointed out that while the sheer amount of video consumption among children is alarming, it is certainly a net positive that the perils of social media are being "instinctively" avoided."The fact that these kids are instinctively avoiding the machine in its most obvious forms says something.""We still need to educate young minds to the fact that what they are watching on social media is often a facsimile of individuality, but the fact that they are even instinctively seeking out human shared experience is a win, just a slightly delayed one," he added.Like Blaze News? If LeBron James is ‘today’s Muhammad Ali,’ then Lizzo is today’s Pam Grier

If LeBron James is ‘today’s Muhammad Ali,’ then Lizzo is today’s Pam Grier

I was not a fan of LeBron James being selected as flag bearer for Team USA at the Paris Olympics. It bothered me for reasons beyond James’ history of kneeling during the national anthem in support of George Floyd and other career criminals who lost their lives resisting arrest. I was bothered because I knew it would inevitably lead to someone comparing James to Muhammad Ali, who famously lit the torch at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games. Off the court, James is a complete and total fraud. Nothing could be more obvious. Sure enough, my old friend Dan Le Batard stepped up and made the ridiculous comparison. On his popular podcast, the former ESPN and Miami Herald journalist called James “today’s Muhammad Ali.” That’s a sad statement about “today” far more than it is praise of James. King James is not Muhammad Ali. I’ll explain after I share a bit of context. A decade ago, as the editor in chief of ESPN’s the Undefeated, I devised a plan to examine LeBron James’ pursuit of a legacy that rivaled Muhammad Ali’s. I surmised that in the aftermath of LeBron’s four-year, two-championship stint in Miami that James and Nike had changed their targets. They would no longer position James as the successor to Air Jordan’s throne. To sell sneakers at Michael Jordan’s level, LeBron needed a new historical narrative. He pivoted to Muhammad Ali, the man regarded as “The Greatest” despite suffering five losses in the boxing ring. Ali’s courage and standing outside the ring rendered his losses to Joe Frazier, Ken Norton, Leon Spinks, Larry Holmes, and Trevor Berbick meaningless. If LeBron could strengthen his profile as an activist, he could erase the stench of his poorly executed 2010 exit from Cleveland and the subsequent 2011 NBA Finals meltdown against the Dallas Mavericks. “The Decision” — James’ much-hyped and televised choice to take “his talents to South Beach” — and his embarrassing performance against Dirk Nowitzki and the Mavs did severe damage to James’ brand. They made it impossible for the chosen one to rival Jordan as a competitor, performer, or sneaker pitchman.Rather than accept his plight, James and Nike chose to scale a larger mountain: Muhammad Ali. The pivot began in 2011, when James and Nike began formulating plans for the “I Promise School” in Akron, a school for disadvantaged kids with unstable home environments. James’ foundation financed a small percentage of the school while receiving a much larger percentage of the credit for launching it. In early 2012, James and Nike unveiled the second step in LeBron’s rebranding. James dipped his toe into activism, leading his Miami Heat teammates into donning hoodies in support of Trayvon Martin, the black Florida teen who was shot and killed after pounding George Zimmerman’s head into the ground.By 2017, James was a full-blown social justice warrior. He claimed that vandals spray-painted the N-word on the back gate of his $20 million mansion in Brentwood, California. He provided no proof. His servants removed the graffiti before police could investigate, before James could return to California and see it for himself. James used the alleged incident to compare himself to the mother of Emmett Till, the 14-year-old boy who was brutally murdered in Mississippi in 1955. James’ servants removed the alleged graffiti within hours. Emmett Till’s mother lost her teenage son. It’s difficult for me to follow the analogy. It’s equally difficult for me to believe that anyone in 2024 thinks LeBron James is the modern-day Muhammad Ali. He’s not. Off the court, James is a complete and total fraud. Nothing could be more obvious. James is a great basketball player. He’s one of the five or six best players of all time. I rank him below Jordan, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, and Larry Bird. I never saw Bill Russell play, but I’m open to the possibility that Russell was better than James. As it relates to athletes and off-the-field importance, James isn’t on the same planet as Ali, Jim Brown, Arthur Ashe, Bill Bradley, Jack Kemp, or Joe Louis. James is the antithesis of Ali. As an activist, James faces zero resistance. He’s never been challenged to defend his unsophisticated political opinions against a journalistic adversary. Ali engaged with and confronted his adversaries on college campuses, during televised interviews, and even in his relationship with Howard Cosell.James ducks resistance. He and Klutch Sports represent and finance members of the media who defend James at every turn. Ali was connected to a religious sect, the Nation of Islam, and was counseled by Malcolm X and Elijah Muhammad. James has no discernible religious faith or affiliation. He’s counseled by a cadre of agents and handlers. Ali competed in the sport that is the ultimate test of masculinity. James has popularized flopping in a sport that has been stripped of its masculinity. Ali risked imprisonment over his religious convictions when he refused induction into the military draft. James has risked nothing. James is an inauthentic brand, a man who does the bidding of a global apparel company. Ali epitomized authenticity, a man who believed his actions would truly inspire and uplift black Americans. In 1996, when Ali lit the Olympic torch in Atlanta, it symbolized the end of Ali’s feud with America. It was a negotiated peace settlement between adversaries. LeBron James carrying the Team USA flag at this year’s Olympics symbolized that sellouts rule in a country run by sellouts.

Gab CEO contradicts testimony from FBI deputy director about social media posts attributed to Trump rally shooter

FBI Deputy Director Paul Abbate testified before Congress on Tuesday about the possible motivation of the Trump rally shooter, but the CEO of Gab immediately contradicted his claim. Abbate testified that Thomas Matthew Crooks had posted hundreds of messages to social media, including some that expressed anti-Semitic and anti-immigration sentiments. 'To the best of Gab's knowledge, as of 2021, Crooks was a pro-lockdown, pro-immigration, left-wing Joe Biden supporter.'“Some of these comments, if ultimately attributable to the shooter, appear to reflect antisemitic and anti-immigration themes, to espouse political violence, and are described as extreme in nature,” said Abbate. The posts were reportedly published between 2019 and 2020. “While the investigative team is still working to verify this account to determine if it did in fact belong to the shooter, we believe it important to share and note it today, particularly given the general absence of other information to date from social media and other sources of information that reflect on the shooter’s potential motive and mindset,” Abbate added. Andrew Torba, the CEO of the Gab social media platform, then said that he had received a request from the FBI about posts that might be attributed to Crooks but added that they appeared to show motivation opposite to Abbate's testimony. "This is not consistent with Gab's understanding of the shooter's motives based on an Emergency Disclosure Request ('EDR') we received from the FBI last week for the Gab account 'EpicMicrowave' which, based on the content of that EDR, the FBI appeared to think belonged to Thomas Crooks," said Torba from his official social media account. He went on to say the company doesn't usually confirm law enforcement communications, but it made an exception because of the "overwhelming public interest" in this case. "The story is this: the account for which data was requested was, UNEQUIVOCALLY, pro-Biden and in particular pro-Biden's immigration policy," said Torba. "To the best of Gab's knowledge, as of 2021, Crooks was a pro-lockdown, pro-immigration, left-wing Joe Biden supporter."Torba also posted a copy of the request from the FBI but blocked out some information out of courtesy to the agency's investigation. Abbate was challenged in his testimony by Republican Sen. Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee. "We understand that the Gab account is pro-immigration, pro-lockdown, leftist views. Is that accurate?" she asked. "I haven't seen it directly, but I believe, from what I've been told, that is accurate, with the Gab account," Abbate responded. "We're still working to verify that that's his account. But it does have differing points of view, it would appear." Abbate's testimony was published to YouTube. Like Blaze News? Speaker Johnson fires back perfect response after Biden calls him 'dead on arrival' over SCOTUS reform criticism

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) used a viral moment from last month's presidential debate to respond to President Joe Biden's eyebrow-raising comment about him.On Monday, Biden released his plan to reform the Supreme Court, a three-item proposal that aligns with progressive demands (sans court-packing). 'I really don't know what he said at the end of that sentence. I don't think he knows what he said, either.'But that plan will never see daylight in the halls of Congress, Johnson responded, describing the proposal as "dead on arrival in the House.""President Biden’s proposal to radically overhaul the U.S. Supreme Court would tilt the balance of power and erode not only the rule of law, but the American people’s faith in our system of justice," Johnson said. "This proposal is the logical conclusion to the Biden-Harris Administration and Congressional Democrats’ ongoing efforts to delegitimize the Supreme Court."The Republican leader pointed out, "It is telling that Democrats want to change the system that has guided our nation since its founding simply because they disagree with some of the Court’s recent decisions."Later in the day, a reporter asked President Biden to respond to Johnson's statement."I think that’s what he is," Biden said."That he is?" the reporter followed up."That he is dead on arrival," Biden clarified. — (@) The comment immediately triggered confusion among reporters and political commentators alike because of the recent assassination attempt on Donald Trump and the subsequent campaign to abstain from using threatening political rhetoric. In that regard, Speaker Johnson found the perfect way to respond, using a viral moment from the presidential debate between Biden and Trump last month."I really don't know what he said at the end of that sentence. I don't think he knows what he said, either," Trump quipped at the debate. — (@) Meanwhile, Biden tried to clarify his remarks later in the day."I think his thinking is dead on arrival," Biden said. The truth is, however, Johnson's thinking will almost certainly prevail. That's because Biden's proposal would require the movement of the political heaven and earth to pass.Biden's first two proposals — a "No One Is Above the Law" constitutional amendment and term limits for Supreme Court justices — would both have to go through the difficult constitutional amending process, which requires approval from two-thirds of Congress and ratification from three-fourths of all states. The third proposal — a new ethics code for Supreme Court justices — is the least problematic, but the high court already self-enforces an ethics code.Like Blaze News?
