Review of: DOJ Deploys Election Officers Nationwide to Protect Election Officials from Threats

The Department of Justice is on a mission to protect the integrity of our elections by deploying officers across the nation. We are only two weeks away. DOJ’s Nationwide Deployment The Department of Justice, led by Attorney General Merrick B. Garland, has undertaken a significant initiative aimed at ensuring the safety of election officials by deploying District Election Officers (DEOs) nationwide. This effort is a response to a concerning rise in threats against individuals responsible for the electoral process. Established in 2021, the Election Threats Task Force symbolizes the DOJ’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the democratic process. Despite receiving approximately 2,000 reported threats since its inception, the task force has faced prosecutorial challenges, with only about two dozen individuals charged. This tracked rise in threats, leaving many election officials feeling unsupported and disheartened. Concerns over the task force’s effectiveness and transparency continue to grow, as evidenced by 100 investigations and 15 convictions. DOJ deploys district elections officers to handle 'threats and intimidation' https://t.co/meKJ5PyfQT — Fox News Politics (@foxnewspolitics) October 21, 2024 Challenges in Prosecution One of the most significant hurdles in prosecuting threats is the protection afforded by the First Amendment. The task force must differentiate between legitimate threats and speech protected under free speech rights. In 2023, a Supreme Court ruling further complicated the task by altering the standard for what constitutes a “true threat.” Inevitably, this complexity hampers the DOJ’s ability to hold all potential offenders accountable. “I will reiterate again today, these cases are a warning if you threaten to harm or kill an election worker or official or volunteer, the Justice Department will find you and we will hold you accountable.” – Attorney General Merrick Garland Furthermore, a troubling statistic emerges, with 45% of threats going unreported due to officials’ lack of confidence in the system’s ability to protect them. Increasing concerns about transparency, a group of senators has also raised questions about the task force’s progress and call for more action and communication with election workers. Today, Attorney General Garland convened a meeting of the Election Threats Task Force, underscoring the Department’s #ElectionSecurity efforts to safeguard election workers – whether elected, appointed, or volunteer – from threats and intimidation. : https://t.co/yqMcsTVfCP pic.twitter.com/xNvNzEZl2e — U.S. Department of Justice (@TheJusticeDept) May 13, 2024 Proactive Measures In response to the rising threat level, DOJ has stationed DEOs across the country to coordinate with the Election Threats Task Force. These officers will play a crucial role in addressing threats and complaints related to election integrity. Additionally, U.S. attorney’s offices are implementing local contacts, such as Assistant United States Attorney Shamoor Anis in Delaware, to provide an easily accessible channel for reporting issues. “A threat to any election official, worker, or volunteer is, at bottom, a threat to democracy.” – Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco Sources: Garland focuses on election worker issues. Bruce The Cow Joins In On Silly Halloween Trend In Perfect Fashion!

We’ve seen plenty of dogs joining the ghost photoshoot trend this spooky season, but we never expected to see a cow getting into the Halloween spirit! Elias Herrera shared the most adorable video of his bovine buddy, Bruce, wearing a frighteningly cute costume. Following the format of the popular social media trend, the pet owner placed a sheet over the animal with holes cut out for his eyes, mouth, and ears. Then, he took a series of photos showing the cow in different settings wearing his Halloween costume! Elias also dressed up for the video, sporting a jack-o-lantern on his head. He and Bruce got some hilarious pictures for the ghost photoshoot trend! In one snapshot, the cow dad was riding on the back of his pet like the headless horseman. Later, he even removed his head using special effects! Another image showed the two relaxing in the kitchen, reading a magazine. All in all, we think this pair totally nailed the trend! View this post on Instagram A post shared by Elias Herrera (@elias_filmz) When the ghost photoshoot trend first took off, most of the participants were people. However, one dog owner decided to include her Italian greyhound, Granola, in the fun. It seems like the internet hasn’t looked back since! Tons of pet owners have been dressing up their pooches as ghosts and taking aesthetic pictures of them. We’re glad to see a cow representing bigger animals this Halloween! Screengrab from Instagram It’s not exactly a surprise that Bruce would get over 91 million views on this video. After all, he is an internet sensation! Elias Herrera regularly posts about his life as a cow dad, and some of his videos are too funny. Many of them involve the harried man attempting to cook while his pet tries to eat all of his ingredients. We think it’s pretty safe to say that Bruce the cow is definitely winning Halloween this year! You can find the source of this story’s featured image here. Man Comes Face-To-Face With Mother Bear In His Garage… Here’s How He Got Through Unscathed!

People are installing security cameras on and in their homes, and we are blessed with amazing footage. Alex Gold posted this clip in September, filmed by a camera inside his garage and then switched to an exterior camera. The footage depicts a bear encounter in British Columbia, Canada. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Alex Gold (@xandr_bc) Alex, who is not a professional bear wrangler, handles this encounter perfectly. He stepped back slowly, talking to the animal in a calm tone. When the bear advanced, he clapped loudly to startle it. When that still didn’t work, he calmly went to the driver’s side of his vehicle. Sitting in the car, Alex closed the rear hatch. As the hatch is closing, a tiny cub appears on camera. Alex honked the horn, which seemed to get the mother and cub moving away. According to National Parks Canada, Alex did everything correctly. Not all bear encounters go smoothly, but knowing how to react helps. In British Columbia, bears are fairly common, although most of the time, they are encountered while humans are hiking or camping. However, as we continue encroaching on their forests, more bears seek food in residential areas. Image from Instagram here and here. Many organizations, including the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, the Humane Society, and the National Park Service, publish helpful guides for bear encounters. Alex Gold is an outdoorsy guy who was aware of the correct response. He probably didn’t expect to need that knowledge in his garage, but we’re glad he knew! If you are planning a trip for hiking or camping or live in a residential area near forests, please review the available information and stay safe around bears. Please share if you enjoyed this incredible feat of bravery and Alex’s quick thinking. You can find the source of this story’s featured image here. Thumpety Thump Thump: Look at Hot Frosty Go

News Hot Frosty Thumpety Thump Thump: Look at Hot Frosty Go The lyrics “Don’t you cry, I’ll be back again someday” suggest a sequel is inevitable By Molly Templeton | Published on October 23, 2024 Comment 0 Share New Share The lead-up to the romantic holiday movie season has well and truly begun. Yes, the Hallmark Channel dominates this very specific and fascinating area, but Netflix isn’t about to be left out in the cold. Next month, the streamer brings Frosty the Snowman to life in a whole new—chiseled, cheekboned—sort of way with Hot Frosty. I feel like you can pretty much get the gist of the film from that title alone, but here’s the scoop: Two years after losing her husband, Kathy magically brings a handsome snowman to life! Through his naïveté, the snowman helps Kathy to laugh, feel and love again, as the two fall for each other just in time for the holidays…and before he melts. Live, laugh, love: hot snowman edition stars Lacey Chabert as Kathy and Dustin Milligan as “Jack Snowman.” (I’m serious.) To me Chabert is always poor put-upon Claudia from Party of Five, but she’s probably best known for her roles in Mean Girls and Lost in Space (’90s version). Milligan’s impressively long list of credits include a long turn on Schitt’s Creek and roles in Final Destination 3, 90210, Rutherford Falls, and Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency. Joining in the seasonally appropriate merriment are Craig Robinson, Lauren Holly, Katy Mixon, Joe Lo Truglio, and Chrishell Stause. Hot Frosty is directed by Jerry Ciccoritti (who has 14 episodes of Schitt’s Creek under his belt) and written by Russell Hainline, who is also responsible for The Santa Summit and In Merry Measure. The festivities begin on Netflix on November 13th.[end-mark] The post Thumpety Thump Thump: Look at Hot Frosty Go appeared first on Reactor.
