Daily Wire host Michael Knowles appeared to stump leftist columnist Wajahat Ali during a clash on “Piers Morgan Uncensored” over Vice President Kamala Harris’ record on the illegal immigration crisis. During their conversation, Knowles and Ali debated the use of the term “border czar” to describe Harris, a phrase that was used to describe the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee after Biden tapped her in 2021 to head up the administration’s response to a surge of illegal immigrants. In recent days, media outlets have tried to walk back their previous reporting, claiming Harris was never the “border czar.” Ali claimed that it was the media who came up with the title “border czar,” saying neither Biden or Harris ever made that claim. Knowles responded by reading a quote from Biden where he put Harris in charge of responding to the border crisis. “Wajahat, you just said that Biden never made her the border czar or put her in charge of the border,” Knowles said, before reading a quote from Biden in March 2021. “I’ve asked her, the VP today, to lead our efforts with Mexico and the Northern Triangle and the countries that help — are going to need help in stemming the movement of many folks, stemming the migration to our southern border. It’s not her full responsibility and job, but she’s leading the effort. When she speaks, she speaks for me,” Biden said. “What about that is confusing,” Knowles asks. Ali did not immediately respond, before accusing Knowles and Morgan of being spokesmen for the Republican National Committee. “You all are saying that she is the border czar and I have ears. And I heard that. And she is not the border czar. She literally was given that responsibility. She’s not the border czar,” Ali replied. But he said, ‘I’m putting her in the lead of immigration.’ That has been the most monumental failure of the Biden administration. And it ranks toward the top of people’s issues.” Since becoming the presumptive Democratic nominee, Harris has come under intense scrutiny for her record on illegal immigration. An ad this week from the pro-Trump super PAC Make America Great Again Inc targets her for her handling of the border and stance on illegal immigration. Clips in the ad show Harris ​​claiming that the U.S. border is secure amid record amounts of illegal immigration and saying that she did not support treating people who illegally crossed into the country as criminals.
