Elderly Father Just Can’t Say No To His Grandkitty… And It’s Too Precious!

Grandparents are known for spoiling their grandkids, so it makes sense that this adorable grandpa absolutely dotes on his daughter’s pet kitty. A woman named Barb on social media shared the cutest video of her elderly father’s response to her cat begging for treats. Spoilers: he couldn’t say no to that face! This clip is going viral online. In the footage, Grandpa was enjoying a piece of toast when the kitty, named Finnigan, just had to have a taste. Without hesitation, Barb’s dad let him take a bite right out of his hands. Then, the elderly man started imitating the hilarious face the cat made while chewing the treat. His daughter thought the interaction was too funny! @barbshealthybites Don’t come at me, he didn’t really eat much. Dad can’t say no to Finnigan. I love watching them together #catsoftiktok #socute #adorable #catlover #grandparents #petsoftiktok #preciousmoments ♬ original sound – Mandiah “We were visiting my parents, I look over and see Grandpa sharing his toast with Finnigan,” Barb wrote over the footage. She clarified in her caption that the elderly man didn’t feed the cat too much of the unhealthy snack. It was just a small bite! People are falling in love with this adorable duo. Commenters loved seeing this kitty’s unique bond with his human grandpa. Some shared sweet stories of their own about their family members’ relationships with their four-legged friends. Screengrab from TikTok “My dad pretends he doesn’t like pets but he will save fresh shrimp from our holiday appetizers and serve it on a real plate to my cat,” wrote one user. Another added, “My grandpa used to share a bowl of ice cream with his cat every night.” That probably wasn’t the best option for the animal’s health, but we’re sure the man’s heart was in the right place. When we adopt a pet, they become part of the family. It’s wonderful to see how Barb’s dad has embraced her cat as one of his own! You can find the source of this story’s featured image here. Egyptians Performed Brain Surgery 4,000 years ago: A Discovery Called a ‘Milestone in the History of Medicine’

As with many things, a discovery from ancient Egypt has put a time stamp on the development of something: cancerous tumor removal from the brain. A man living sometime between 2,686 BCE and 2,345 BCE was nearing 40 when he developed malignant brain tumors, scarring on his cranial walls revealed. But scientists studying the skull […] The post Egyptians Performed Brain Surgery 4,000 years ago: A Discovery Called a ‘Milestone in the History of Medicine’ appeared first on Good News Network.

Media Hall Monitors Are Annoyed About Investigations Into Demonetization Bias

If you're tired of censorship and dystopian threats against civil liberties, subscribe to Reclaim The Net. A trade group representing the advertising industry, currently under scrutiny by Congress for possibly coordinating with large companies to demonetize conservative and independent media, has expressed concerns over the impact of this probe on their operations. The group, identified by sources as the Global Alliance for Responsible Media (GARM), told Business Insider that the congressional actions led by Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) are hampering their ability to focus on new initiatives. Rep. Jim Jordan, who chairs the House Judiciary Committee, has accused GARM of preventing companies from placing ads with media outlets that are seen as promoting “misinformation,” specifically targeting mainstream conservative platforms such as Fox News, The Daily Wire, Breitbart, and more. Jordan contends that the group’s actions go beyond concerns over “brand safety” and veer into outright censorship of conservative and other disfavored viewpoints. The sources within GARM lamented the diversion of major corporations into partisan conflicts, which they believe could harm their reputation and alienate consumers. They also expressed fears about potential lawsuits arising from document disclosures which could demonstrate that their brand safety initiatives are driven by partisan motives. In response to the grievances aired by GUILD members, a Judiciary Committee spokesman highlighted the irony in large corporations feeling harassed by these inquiries, dismissing the notion as “laughable” given the evidence of long-term bias and censorship against conservative entities by GARM members. ZiG: The World's Newest Currency Is Off To A Rocky Start

Zimbabwe has officially got a new currency called Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG) to replace the Zimbabwean dollar, a currency with a notorious history of runaway inflation. However, there are signs the new currency is already zigzagging into trouble. The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe started circulating ZiG in April 2024, starting with electronic payments before rolling out notes and coins. A total of ZiG 80 million is currently on the market, set with an introductory exchange rate of 13.56 ZiG per US dollar. While the old Zimbabwean dollar’s value was directly pegged to and supported by the US Dollar, ZiG is backed by the country’s reserves of foreign currency and precious metals, primarily gold. Zimbabwe’s central bank said they made the switch to “foster simplicity, certainty, and predictability in monetary and financial affairs.” However, it looks like the new currency is suffering the same fate as its predecessors, with some government departments refusing to accept it, Associated Press reports. There are also concerns that ZiG’s physical banknotes haven’t reached some members of the general public yet and mostly exist digitally. In a country where the electricity supply and internet is unreliable, most shoppers and traders are still using the old currencies. The history of Zimbabwe’s finances has been chaotic, to say the least. In the 2000s, the Zimbabwean dollar underwent extreme hyperinflation, driven by excessive money printing to finance government deficits and economic mismanagement. The crisis peaked in mid-November 2008 with inflation reaching an astronomical rate of 79,600,000,000 percent per month, with prices doubling every 25 hours. The Zimbabwe dollar was scrapped in 2009 and the country used the US dollar and other foreign currencies for a decade. By 2019, the central bank was forced to return to the Zimbabwe dollar.Needless to say, decades of financial stability has a terrible impact on human life in Zimbabwe, from mass unemployment and social unrest to famine and a crumbling health system.ZiG is hoping to reinstall trust and stability, but many people in Zimbabwe are still suspicious of their government’s ability to balance the country’s books.“I smell a rat here. What is the wisdom of introducing a new currency when many of us do not trust government policies? They will surely print more money before long,” Tino Kapesa, a 23-year-old college student, told the Wall Street Journal.“I hope the new governor will stabilize the economy because we have suffered for too long," added Yeukai Chiripanyanga, a taxi driver in the capital Harare.

A Third Human Bird Flu Case Is Confirmed In US, With A New Set Of Symptoms

A third case of bird flu has been confirmed in a dairy farm worker in the USA, the second identified in the state of Michigan. In contrast to the previous two cases, the infected individual has reportedly been experiencing traditional flu-like symptoms, though officials say they are now recovering. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) confirmed on May 30 that another human case of bird flu has been identified. As with the previous two US cases, the infected person was a farm worker in the dairy industry, and it’s thought likely they contracted the virus after exposure to an infected cow.The CDC stressed there is no evidence the three reported cases are linked in any way. They say the risk to the general public “remains low” but that people should take care when coming into contact with animals, especially if they are dead or appear sick. “People should also avoid unprotected exposures to animal poop, bedding (litter), unpasteurized (“raw”) milk, or materials that have been touched by, or close to, birds or other animals with suspected or confirmed A(H5N1) virus,” the agency adds. The dairy farm H5N1 outbreak has now hit nine states, according to data from the US Department of Agriculture. There had been 22 separate reports of infected cattle in Michigan at the time of writing. The two human cases of infection in the state occurred on different farms. The two other farm workers who contracted the virus experienced mild symptoms of an eye infection. This time, the individual presented with respiratory symptoms that are more usual with the flu, including a cough, as well as eye discomfort. After being treated with the antiviral Tamiflu, the patient is said to be “isolating at home, and their symptoms are resolving.” No other staff at the farm, and none of the patient’s family or friends, are showing symptoms.“With the first case in Michigan, eye symptoms occurred after a direct splash of infected milk to the eye. With this case, respiratory symptoms occurred after direct exposure to an infected cow,” said Michigan Department of Health and Human Services chief medical executive, Dr Natasha Bagdasarian, in a statement. “Neither individual was wearing full personal protective equipment (PPE). This tells us that direct exposure to infected livestock poses a risk to humans, and that PPE is an important tool in preventing spread among individuals who work on dairy and poultry farms.”“We have not seen signs of sustained human-to-human transmission, and the current health risk to the general public remains low.”Right now, the CDC is reporting no unusual patterns in human flu cases. Viral isolates from the latest patient are currently undergoing genetic testing – so far, it’s been confirmed that the virus is an H5 subtype, but more tests are needed before we have the second piece of the puzzle, the N (neuraminidase, an influenza virus surface protein). Given the patient’s history and exposure to H5N1-infected cattle, it’s suspected the virus will turn out to be H5N1 as well.As this highly pathogenic H5N1 strain continues to spread in many species – birds and mammals – across the US and further afield, there are understandable fears that it will make the jump to sustained spread in the human population. We’re not there yet, but close surveillance of the virus will continue to ensure that health authorities can take any necessary precautions in a timely manner – which could include mRNA vaccines, according to recent reports.

CNN's Kasie Hunt: Politico's Right — Dems Really ARE Freaking Out Over Biden!

CNN's Kasie Hunt: Politico's Right — Dems Really ARE Freaking Out Over Biden!

Imagine you're a Biden campaign staffer. You figure left-leaning Politico is surely in your corner. And then on Monday, you fire up the interwebs and find this headline: "Dems in full-blown ‘freakout’ over Biden." Yikes! And then on Wednesday, CNN This Morning host Kasie Hunt — whom no one would accuse of being a Republican shill — pileed on: "I have to say, I feel that from sources, that they are freaking out about the state of the campaign." In another blow to Biden, CNN reporter Edward-Isaac Dovere and New York Times reporter Zolan Kanno-Youngs mad very similar points: that the Biden campaign has repeatedly claimed that a certain event would be the "turning point" in which the contrast between Biden and Trump becomes clear in Biden's favor -- but that turning point never comes.  Dovere ended on a final, ominous, note for Team Biden: perhaps the contrast with Trump has become clear -- "and voters don't care."     Hide-the-sharp-objects time at Biden HQ? Here's the relevant transcript. CNN This Morning 05/29/24 6:38 a.m. EDT EDWARD-ISAAC DOVERE: What matters in the trial right now is what the jury is about to do. And we'll see what that is, what that verdict is, and then how it's received by the American public. But -- KASIE HUNT: [Skeptical tone of voice]: Yeah, but do you think the verdict is gonna change anything? DOVERE: Well, we'll see. Look, I think that one of the problems that you hear from a lot of concerned Democrats right now is that there have been many moments so far where we have been told, either the reporters told privately by campaign officials or they've sort of said it publicly, that this is the turning point for the campaign. This is when the dynamics are about to shift. This is when people are going to focus in and plug in. And that's going to benefit Joe Biden. And so far, every time has come and gone. HUNT: Right. DOVERE: And this may be a different moment, but if so, it will be the change from all these other moments that we've had so far that were supposed to be. HUNT: Well, and Politico put out, let's put the Politico headline up on the screen. This from from yesterday about Democrats freaking out, basically. There it is: "Dems in full-blown 'freakout' over Biden." Now this is, in some ways, a perennial situation with Democrats. Elliot, you used to work for them. You understand the -- [LAUGHTER] -- as well as -- Isaac, I mean, this is, we joke about it here. But this is how they put it. They say quote, "You don't want to be that guy who's on the record saying we're doomed or the campaign's bad, or Biden's making mistakes. Nobody wants to be that guy, said a Democratic operative in close touch with the White House and granted anonymity to speak freely. But Biden's stubbornly poor polling and the stakes of the election are creating the freakout, he said. This isn't oh my God, Mitt Romney might become president. It's oh my God, the democracy might end." And I mean, I have to say that, I feel that from sources, that they are freaking out about the state of the campaign. Is this just another cycle of that, or -- DOVERE: I mean, Democrats in full-blown freakout over -- fill in the blank every day of the week, every week of the year, always. But, yes, the stakes of this election are high and we have this weird confluence of people feeling like they don't want to talk about the eleciton, are tuned out from, and that we will be living in a different country if Joe Biden is president or if Donald Trump is president. (....) 6:40 a.m. Eastern ZOLAN KANNO-YOUNGS: You were saying that this might be a moment that the Biden campaign sees sort of a shift. I feel like we've been hearing over the past year, time and time again. This is gonna be the moment -- DOVERE: Totally. KANNO-YOUNGS: -- when the contrast is clear. This is going to be the moment when the contrast as clear. That's kind of part of the big concern among Democrats here. HUNT: Yeah. KANNO-YOUNGS: You have one candidate in a trial, another candidate focused on governing, and so far that contrast still hasn't become clear, at least when it comes to polling for voters. DOVERE: Or it's become clear, and voters don't care. HUNT: Right, yes. Also possible.
