Kayaker Stunned When He Spots Small Furry Creature Clinging Onto Piling For Dear Life

Kayaks are a popular way to enjoy water. They are small, inexpensive, and versatile enough for various adventures. Rainer Dombek uses his for fishing, and he was out one day testing his new fish finder. Nearing a bridge, he spotted a furry critter clinging to a piling. It was an opossum, and Rainer knew he could help. Using his fishing net, the kayaker rescues the opossum, but not without a little effort. @rainershinefishing Took the kayak out to test my new fish finder. It was a very slow day of fishing when I pulled up to a bridge piling to see this little guy clinging for life. He put up a fight at first, but in the end I’m sure he was happy to see land. The opossum must have been washed away in the storms we had the day before. Checked up on him an hour after the release and was doing well cleaning himself. Even drank some of the water I left. #kayakfishing #oldtownkayaks #fishing #opossumsoftiktok #help #fyp ♬ Help – The Beatles Tribute Project Although the opossum put up a little fight, the kayaker was able to coax it into a fishing net. Rainer thinks that storms the previous day washed the critter out. The animal was likely exhausted and frightened after clinging to the piling all night. Once the little critter was in his net, Rainer headed for dry land. Image from TikTok. There is no way to know what the little opossum thought after its rescue by the kayaker. After realizing it was back on dry land, Rainer felt the little guy was grateful. He set up some water and left the animal but returned later to check on it. When he checked, he noted the opossum had drunk some water and was busy cleaning itself. Image from TikTok. There seem to be two camps when opossums enter the conversation — people either love them or hate them. They certainly won’t win any beauty contests. Opossums eat ticks and other bugs, can’t get rabies, and are immune to bees, scorpions, and other venoms. If you have one in your suburban yard, you should welcome it. They are “nature’s cleanup crew” and will eat almost everything. We’re happy that kayaker Rainer was able to rescue this opossum and release him on dry land, where he will be safe. Please share. Community Steps Up In A Big Way When Teenage Punks Rob A 7-Yr-Old Girl’s Lemonade Stand

There’s so much to love about lemonade stands, especially when you’re the kid in charge of it. Sadly, a little girl named Maddy had to close her lemonade stand early when two teens decided to rob the young girl. The robbery took place in Saskatoon, Canada. By the time Maddy’s parents were able to call the police, the boys had already fled the scene. So, when officers did arrive, they began to search for the teenagers. Then, within minutes, the two robbers were located. One was a 14-year-old with knife and the other was a 16-year-old who had outstanding warrants. Although action was taken swiftly, the damage had been done. The boys had taken juice, money, and candy, leaving the girl sick to her stomach, according to mom, Jade Floata. Thankfully, however, her community has been quick to show her support! Facebook “[Maddy’s] out every day. The neighborhood knows her,” Jade shares. “She has her regulars. I was in the living room and I seen that there was a teenage boy there and I knew something wasn’t right because he was helping himself. He was taking the lemonade, cup after cup, and then crushing them and throwing the cups, like at her, on the lawn.” When Teens Rob a 7-Year-Old’s Lemonade Stand, Her Community Has Her Back The support started when Cst. Duke, the officer who arrested the teens, returned to Maddy’s home for a glass of her famous lemonade. But that’s just the start! As word quickly spread about what had happened to Maddy, the Saskatoon Berries Baseball formulated a plan to give the 7-year-old the spotlight she deserves! “Jam Fam! We’re not gonna let a couple rotten berries ruin this gals summer,” their post reads. “Maddy and her big sister will have their lemonade stand set up at our game TOMORROW night in the plaza. Let’s show her how sweet we all know Saskatoon can be!” To say that the Saskatoon community showed up for Maddy would be an understatement! This young entrepreneur was delighted by the love and care she received during last night’s game. So many people lined up to get her lemonade, helping the little girl feel safe and supported. What a beautiful way to combat such a scary, sad experience! “Maddy, you can sell lemonade at our games whenever you want,” the Saskatoon Berries Baseball shares. Why Does My Cat’s Tail Twitch? 6 Vet-Reviewed Reasons

Cat ownership would be a lot easier if our pets could tell us their thoughts. However, until someone develops a cat-to-human translator, we have to use context clues and our pet’s body language to decipher their moods. A cat’s tail is one of the most expressive parts of their body. So, if your cat’s tail is twitching, you’re probably wondering what they’re thinking. Unfortunately, a quivering tail can mean many different things, so you’ll need to put on your thinking cap to determine what’s going on. From the thrill of practicing their hunting skills to the frustration of aggravating situations, there are many potential reasons for your cat’s tail twitching. Read on to learn more so you can begin to better understand your cat’s mood and the driving forces behind this behavior. The 6 Reasons Why Cats Twitch Their Tails 1. They’re Hunting Cats will sometimes twitch their tails because they’re hunting or playing. This happens when they’re focused intensely on their prey, whether it’s a real-life mouse or a fluffy one you just bought from Amazon. Image Credit: Viacheslav Lopatin, Shutterstock 2. They’re Excited When children are happy and excited, they often jump up and down as a way to release their pent-up energy and express their enthusiasm. Our cats don’t have the same ability to show their happiness, so a quivering tail can also mark anticipation and excitement. 3. They’re Annoyed When your cat twitches the tip of their tail strongly from side to side, it may be that they’re mildly irritated or frustrated. This could be a warning sign that your pet isn’t fond of something you’ve been doing, but they’re not quite at the point yet where they’re going to take the next step and act on their annoyance. Image Credit: Alexander Sobol, Shutterstock 4. They’re Feeling Aggressive Tail twitching is sometimes also associated with aggression. The more your pet’s tail moves back and forth, the less happy they may be. Rapid tail movements can mean they’re issuing a threat to you or another pet in the home. You might also see other aggressive behaviors, such as growling or hissing. Their tails may also thwack audibly on the floor or nearby walls. 5. They’re Spraying You know your cat is spraying when they stand up, hold their tail straight up in the air, and put their rear end toward a target (e.g., walls, bedding, curtains, etc.). Their tail will be quivering, and they’ll spray urine onto an object. Spraying is most likely to occur in cats that have reached sexual maturity, and it can occur in both male and female cats. It happens most often in intact males and females in heat, though those that have been spayed or neutered can also spray. Image Credit: Elisa Putti, Shutterstock 6. They Have Feline Hyperesthesia Syndrome Feline hyperesthesia syndrome (FHS)—also known as “twitchy cat syndrome”—is a rare condition that causes increased sensitivity to touch and uncontrollable muscle contractions. FHS is poorly understood, and its root cause is still unknown, though it is most often attributed to neurological, psychological, or dermatological causes. Before it can be diagnosed, other conditions that cause similar signs must be ruled out. Cats with this condition may quiver their tail, but they’ll often exhibit other signs, including: Rippling or twitching of skin on the back Biting or licking themselves (particularly in the back, side, and rear regions) Pain or discomfort when petted Dilated pupils Brief bursts of running Tail chasing How Can I Know Why My Cat’s Tail Is Twitching? With so many reasons for your cat’s tail twitching, it can feel impossible to determine what your cat is feeling. However, it’s actually relatively easy if you stop and consider your behavior and your kitty’s current environment. Think about what your kitty is currently doing, their body language, and what’s going on around them to determine the exact reason for your pet’s tail twitching. For example, a cat that your toddler is tormenting is unlikely to be twitching their tail out of excitement, especially if their ears are pulled back and they’re staring your child down. It’s much more likely in this scenario that your cat is feeling annoyed and ready to strike. Likewise, if you’re using your cat’s favorite toy to play with them, it’s unlikely they’re twitching their tail because they’re spraying or feeling aggressive. Image Credit: Africa Studio, Shutterstock What Else Your Cat’s Tail Cat Tell You Cats exhibit other tail postures aside from twitching because it’s one of the few ways they can convey their mood and communicate with other cats and humans. Question mark tail Friendly, playful Puffy tail Afraid, defensive, or aggressive Low tail Unease or fear Tucked under: Fearful or anxious Straight up: Confident, happy, friendly Wagging: Angry, frustrated Slow swish: Focused, potentially hunting Quick thrashing: Annoyed, uncertainty How Else Do Cats Convey Mood? Cats don’t only use their tails to convey their mood. Other subtle (and not so subtle) body language cues include: Facial expressions. The ways your cat moves their eyes, ears, and mouth can indicate their mood. Cats feeling relaxed will have normal eye and ear positioning, while those feeling angry will have erect ears and narrowed eyes. Cats with flattened ears and dilated pupils may be fearful. Eye contact. How much eye contact your cat is holding can tell you how relaxed or confrontational they’re feeling. Those slow blinking with a calm stare may feel comfortable and composed, while those staring without blinking may be challenging you. Posture. Cats exhibiting the classic black cat Halloween pose with an arched back and bottle brush tail are feeling aggressive or defensive, while those stretched out with their bellies up are relaxed and comfortable. Image Credit: Ian McGlasham, Shutterstock Final Thoughts As you can see, a cat’s tail twitches can mean a lot of things. It’ll be hard to determine the exact reason behind your pet’s tail movements without also taking into account their body language and context clues from their environment. However, once you consider what else is happening in your cat’s world and how to read their body language, you’ll be an expert on your pet’s moods and feelings. Your Sat Nav Does Not Ping Any Satellites, So How Does GPS Actually Work?

Global Positioning System (GPS) is widespread these days, helping you navigate to your destination, and also revealing when runners may have cheated in marathons by using a car.Though it requires you to be able to launch many satellites into space, the idea behind GPS is actually pretty simple, at least mathematically. Orbiting 20,200 kilometers (12,550 miles) above the Earth is a constellation of satellites, arranged in a way where you can view at least four satellites from wherever you are on the planet. These satellites contain within them several precise atomic clocks, and broadcast continuously their position, and the time that the signal was sent. The receiver – be it your sat nav, or a tracker attached to a pack of wolves – does the locating part, with some good old-fashioned math, and a bit of relativity thrown in to add to the fun.Say you could only see one GPS satellite signal. Knowing the speed of light, and presumptuously presuming that your clock is exactly in sync with the satellite, you can figure out how long the signal took to reach you and an incredibly rough location. Since you know the satellite's location, and how long the signal took to get to you, you can plot out a large circle. Your elevation plays a part, but we'll ignore that for simplicity. You now know that you could be anywhere on this circle, which isn't altogether that useful on its own. But your sat nav can see more than four satellites at any one time. Getting the same information from a different satellite gives you another circle. When you have two circles that overlap, that tells you you are in one of the two points of overlap. Adding data from a third satellite will add another circle, which will intersect with your true location. However, GPS always uses data from at least four satellites in order to account for receiver clock drift.       So where does Einstein come in? Of course, it's his theory of relativity.  "As predicted by Einstein’s theory, clocks under the force of gravity run at a slower rate than clocks viewed from a distant region experiencing weaker gravity," NASA explains. "This means that clocks on Earth observed from orbiting satellites run at a slower rate. To have the high precision needed for GPS, this effect needs to be taken into account or there will be small differences in time that would add up quickly, calculating inaccurate positions."So without Einstein or somebody else figuring out relativity in his absence, you wouldn't be able to know your precise location using GPS.All “explainer” articles are confirmed by fact checkers to be correct at time of publishing.
