Biden Campaign Throws All Pretense Out the Window with Stunning Move at Courthouse During Trump Trial

Ever since Democratic district attorneys and the Department of Justice brought legal action against former President Donald Trump in 2023, the Democratic Party has strenuously attempted to deny the nakedly political motivations behind those cases. Though anyone with their eyes open could tell the only reason for these trials was...

Minnesota Legalizes Lane Filtering

Minnesota has legalized lane filtering, allowing motorcyclists to filter through traffic. Photo by Kevin Wing. This month, Minnesota has become the sixth state in the U.S. to pass legislation allowing lane filtering, aka lane splitting. Along with the lane-sharing law, which allows motorcyclists to filter through traffic “at not more than 25 miles per hour and no more than 15 miles per hour over the speed of traffic,” Minnesota has also added punishments for drivers who impede motorcyclists. As shown by reactions to our recent post about Colorado passing lane-filtering legislation last month, the topic of lane sharing remains controversial. Data indicates that lane sharing reduces motorcycle accidents and decreases the severity of injuries in collisions, especially in rear-end accidents. But some motorists in places where lane sharing is not the norm are skeptical of the practice, even though it’s common on most of the world’s roads. For an in-depth look at the practice of lane sharing, read “Split Decision: Are Lane Splitting and Lane Filtering Safe?” by Eric Trow. For more about the new legislation in Minnesota, read the AMA’s press release below. Minnesota Passes Historic Lane-Filtering Legislation With the signing of HF 5247 into law by Gov. Tim Walz (D) on Friday, May 24, Minnesota became the sixth state to legalize lane filtering. Minnesota is now the easternmost state to legalize lane filtering and joins California, Utah, Montana, Arizona, and Colorado — which also signed filtering into law this year — as states that permit lane filtering. “With this new ability to filter through slow-moving traffic and at stoplights, riders in Minnesota will benefit from increased safety on the open road,” AMA Central States Representative Nick Sands said. “The recent successes of lane-filtering legislation passing into law in Colorado and Minnesota signal excellent momentum for our efforts in that space, and the overall well-being of our road-riding members.” As part of a supplemental budget bill — which impacted several departments, including the Minnesota Department of Transportation — motorcyclists in Minnesota will now be allowed to filter through traffic “at not more than 25 miles per hour and no more than 15 miles per hour over the speed of traffic in relevant traffic lanes.” Written by Sen. Scott Dibble (D-61) and Reps. Frank Hornstein (D-61A), Brad Tabke (D-54A), and Erin Koegel (D-39A), this section of the bill will take effect on July 1, 2025. The legislation’s success came after AMA member and BMW MOA treasurer Phil Stalboerger told his story of being rear-ended on a motorcycle while in traffic to several legislators who wanted to find a way to prevent further accidents from happening. “After telling my story to a lot of people and educating people on what lane filtering means for the motorcycle community, it’s very rewarding seeing this legislation pass,” Stalboerger said. “There was a nice rally cry from the motorcycle community, clubs, small businesses, and others saying that ‘yes,’ we want this. The passage of this legislation illustrates grassroots advocacy at its finest.” In addition to the lane-filtering aspects, HF 5247 also added punishments for drivers that impede motorcyclists on the open road, stating that “an operator of a motor vehicle must not intentionally impede or attempt to prevent the operation of a motorcycle” when filtering. The AMA remains supportive of all efforts regarding the legalization of lane filtering, as its well-documented success in other states, in addition to support from several studies, indicate that it’s an effective way to keep motorcyclists safe on the road. The AMA’s position on lane filtering, as well as lane splitting, can be found on the AMA website. To stay up-to-date on the latest legislative news, visit the AMA Government Action Center webpage. Biden Protects Iran from Europe Until the Election

Joe Biden is helping out Iran once again. When he’s not allowing our enemies to make billions of dollars, he is letting them slide on sanctions and other efforts to keep them from inciting terror attacks. He does that with all our enemies except Russia and turns against our allies, much as Barack Obama and […] The post Biden Protects Iran from Europe Until the Election appeared first on www.independentsentinel.com.

Biden Campaign Shows Up at Trump’s Trial to Weaponize It More

Don’t doubt this trial is weaponized as part of a political campaign. The judge is conflicted, the jury was selected from a nearly 90% Democrat pool, and the prosecutors have sworn to get Trump. As if that isn’t enough, the witnesses are notorious liars, one a thief as well. Additionally, there is no crime here, […] The post Biden Campaign Shows Up at Trump’s Trial to Weaponize It More appeared first on www.independentsentinel.com.

Biden Campaign Taps Robert De Niro To Rant Against Trump Outside NY Trial: US Govt ‘Will Perish’

Actor Robert De Niro railed against former president Donald Trump and his supporters during a Biden campaign event outside a New York courthouse on Tuesday. After largely ignoring Trump’s ongoing hush-money trial in New York, President Joe Biden’s campaign held an event outside the courthouse as the trial is set to go to closing arguments. The Biden campaign invited De Niro, a vocal critic of the former president, to speak. De Niro denounced Trump and claimed the American system of government is at stake in the 2024 election. “Under Trump, this kind of government will perish from the Earth. I don’t mean to scare you. No, no, wait, maybe I do mean to scare you. If Trump returns to the White House, you can kiss these freedoms goodbye that we all take for granted,” De Niro said, “And elections? Forget about them. That’s over, that’s done. If he gets in, I can tell you right now, he will never leave. He will never leave. You know that. He will never leave.” Bob DeNiro has become so unglued, he thinks "government will perish from the earth" if President Trump is re-elected pic.twitter.com/OVIVUy27Qu — RNC Research (@RNCResearch) May 28, 2024 “That’s why I’ve joined the Biden-Harris campaign, because the only way to preserve our freedoms and hold on to our humanity is to vote for Joe Biden for president,” De Niro said. “Really – we don’t have a choice.” BOB DENIRO IS A TOTAL MESS! pic.twitter.com/mm7V8u7iRh — RNC Research (@RNCResearch) May 28, 2024 Trump campaign officials characterized the event as an act of desperation by the Biden campaign, “What you just heard from is a desperate and failing and pathetic campaign who knows that they are losing. Joe Biden’s sending his campaign outside of this criminal courthouse is a full-blown concession that this trial is a witch hunt that comes from the top, comes from Joe Biden,” Trump campaign press secretary Karoline Leavitt said in remarks immediately following De Niro’s press conference. A Democratic operative in touch with the White House explained Democrats’ feelings to Politico. “You don’t want to be that guy who is on the record saying we’re doomed, or the campaign’s bad or Biden’s making mistakes. Nobody wants to be that guy,” the operative said. But Biden’s poll numbers “are creating the freakout” among the Democratic establishment. “This isn’t, ‘Oh my God, Mitt Romney might become president.’ It’s ‘Oh my God, the democracy might end,’” the operative said.

Judge Slaps Down Jack Smith’s Request For Gag Order In Trump Docs Case

On Tuesday, special counsel Jack Smith‘s bid for a gag order against former President Donald Trump in his classified documents case got rejected by the presiding federal judge in Florida. Federal prosecutors’ attempt to confer with Trump’s counsel before filing the request was “wholly lacking in substance and professional courtesy,” Judge Aileen Cannon wrote in a paperless order. Cannon said the request was denied without prejudice, meaning Smith could try again, but she warned a failure to provide adequate time for discussion between the parties may result in sanctions. JUST IN: Judge CANNON has denied Jack Smith's gag order request in FL, saying prosecutors' effort to confer with defense before filing it was "wholly lacking in substance and professional courtesy." pic.twitter.com/E0Ri84l7si — Kyle Cheney (@kyledcheney) May 28, 2024 Smith’s team sought the gag order last Friday after Trump claimed FBI agents were “authorized to shoot me” and were “locked & loaded ready to take me out & put my family in danger.” The former president was responding to the revelation that the FBI was permitted to use “deadly force” in the 2022 raid on Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate, though the bureau insists it was following “standard protocol.” Prosecutors said Trump’s statements “falsely” suggested law enforcement agents “were complicit in a plot to assassinate” the former president and exposed “agents, some of whom will be witnesses at trial, to the risk of threats, violence, and harassment.” Smith’s team asked the court to restrain Trump from making public declarations that pose a serious “danger” to agents participating in the case. In a footnote, prosecutors also noted Trump’s lawyers object to the motion as they “do not believe that there is any imminent danger.” Trump is contending with a gag order in a separate New York hush-money case. He was fined thousands of dollars last month after being found to be in violation of that order. A judge also implemented a gag order in Smith’s 2020 election interference case against the former president. CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP Steven Cheung, Trump’s re-election campaign spokesman, reacted to Smith’s request for a gag order in the classified documents case by claiming that prosecutors were trying to meddle in the 2024 election. “Hacks and Thugs are obsessed with trying to deprive President Trump and all American voters of their First Amendment rights,” Cheung said. “Repeated attempts to silence President Trump during the presidential campaign are blatant attempts to interfere in the election.” Trump has maintained his innocence in all of the charges he faces, including in a separate 2020 election interference case in Georgia. Just one of the four cases — the criminal matter in Manhattan — has gone to trial so far. Judge Cannon postponed the classified documents trial, which had been set for May 20, and has not selected a new date.

Conservative Candidates For Federal Office Should Continue To Support Babies, Mothers, And Life

This is the first part of an edited speech delivered by Michael Knowles at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Who exactly are our friends? It’s getting trickier to tell. More precisely, who are our political allies? If this speech had taken place a month or two ago, I would have had a pretty clear answer. Today, it’s a little less clear — and that’s thanks to one issue in particular: abortion.  Over the past few weeks, some conservative politicians have started moving to the Left on abortion. They’re doing so because they fear that taking too strong of a pro-life stance will cost them their elections. And it’s a fair concern. In order to accomplish anything in politics, one needs to win elections. To quote Cocaine Mitch McConnell, “Winners make policy, and the losers go home.” President Trump made this point recently when he unveiled the abortion plank of his platform. Just a week or so ago, President Trump reaffirmed that he’s pro-life and that he favors exceptions in the case of babies conceived in rape or incest as well as in the case of a threat to the life of the mother. He went on to say that he opposes the regulation of abortion at the federal level and sides, instead, with the Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which declared abortion an issue for state legislatures to decide.  Some pro-lifers have criticized Trump for this stance. They wish, in the wake of Roe v. Wade’s reversal, that he would go further. They wish he would come out in support of a national abortion ban — or even an additional Court ruling that would ban abortion on the basis of the 14th Amendment’s Equal Protection Clause. Some have gone so far as to claim that President Trump is not a pro-life candidate.  This, I think, is unfair. Deeply unfair. Because President Trump is the only reason we’re even having this debate. President Trump is the reason Roe v. Wade was reversed in the first place. There have been six Republican presidents since Roe v. Wade invented a national license to abortion. Six Republican presidents since the first March for Life in 1974. President Trump is the first one to address the March. Nixon didn’t show up. Ford didn’t show up. Not even Ronald Reagan or either of the Bushes showed up. Just Trump.  And of the six Republican presidents since Roe, President Trump’s platform is at least as pro-life as that of his predecessors. In some ways, it’s even more so. Some forget that President Reagan actually legalized abortion in the state of California when he was governor. Now, I certainly do not mean to besmirch the memory of the Gipper, a great man who came to regret that decision and who later campaigned on behalf of the pro-life movement. I just mention it to point out that some pro-lifers are holding President Trump to a far more exacting standard than any to which they have held his predecessors — a standard that seems particularly unfair since President Trump has done more than any Republican president or presidential candidate in history to protect babies in the womb.  I am as pro-life as they come. I observed in a speech a few weeks ago at the University of Wisconsin-Madison that abortion is intrinsically evil and that legal abortion is a historical aberration in America. That for most of American history, when the issue was addressed at all, abortion was simply outlawed. I observed that, until the Sexual Revolution of the mid-20th century, abortion became even more restricted the more scientists discovered about the origins and development of human life. If you’d like to hear more of the moral and historical arguments against abortion, I encourage you to watch my University of Wisconsin-Madison lecture on YouTube or read part one and part two via The Daily Wire. I would happily return to America’s historical norm, which protected all innocent life.  WATCH: The Michael Knowles Show But that’s easy to say and harder to do, which is President Trump’s point. He recognizes, as political philosophy has recognized since at least Aristotle, that prudence is the chief political virtue. We have to take the wins we can get today so that we can score even more wins tomorrow. We have to be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.  So, I’m all for prudence. But some Right-wing politicians are going much further than President Trump prudential calculation. I’m sorry to say that’s what conservative Senate candidate Kari Lake has recently done. Kari Lake, whom I’ve always liked, put out a new abortion platform.  She said that abortion “is such a personal and private issue. I chose life, but I’m not every woman. I want to make sure that every woman who finds herself pregnant has more choices so that she can make that choice that I made.”  As I said, I like Kari Lake, and she is, of course, far preferable to her liberal opponent, who describes the murder of babies as a “sacred right.” So please consider this in the spirit in which it is intended: as a fraternal correction from someone who wants her to win, who hates to see her campaign torpedo itself, and who would especially hate to see other conservative campaigns torpedo themselves by following suit.  What’s wrong with the statement? Everything, pretty much. It begins by calling abortion “a personal and private issue.” It is not. A personal and private issue is an issue that affects only an individual. “Will I have a hot dog or a hamburger for lunch?” is a personal and private issue. “Will I murder my child?” is not a personal or private issue because it affects someone else — namely, the child. That makes it a political issue. Abortion is obviously a political issue. Politicians and voters have been debating it for more than 50 years.  “I chose life, but I’m not every woman.” Right, you’re not every woman: You’re a candidate for public office articulating your position on public policy. Would we ever accept this kind of rhetoric on any other political issue? “I choose not to commit rape, I choose not to burglarize people’s homes … but I’m not every man.” Does that mean we ought to permit other men to rape and burgle? I don’t think so.  One chooses not to do those things because those acts are wrong. They’re so obviously and egregiously wrong that we pass laws against them. Why did she choose not to abort her child? She chose not to abort her child because she knew it was wrong; she knew her child had a right to life. Is it good for some women not to murder their children but not for others? Is it good for some children to be allowed to live but not for others? Of course not.  To say, “I would never personally have an abortion, but I think other people should be able to,” is tantamount to saying, “I would never snuff the life out of my precious progeny, but I don’t really care about yours. Throw him in the trash, for all I care.” I don’t think this is what the people who hold this view intend to say, but that is what they’re saying. That’s what the statement means.  “I want to make sure that every woman who finds herself pregnant has more choices so that she can make that choice that I made.” Come again? That sentence is the nearest in the platform to being defensible. And it still misses the mark. If the sentence read, “I want to make sure that every woman who finds herself pregnant has more … resources … so that she can make that choice that I made,” that would be perfectly fine. It would be quite good actually. “I want to make sure that every woman who finds herself pregnant has more … support, love, opportunity … so that she can make that choice that I made” — great! I’m all for it. But “choice”? How does having a greater “choice” to kill your child improve the odds that you won’t? By definition, the expansion of such “choice” would greatly decrease the odds that a mother chooses life.  So, as I said: I like Kari Lake a lot, I hope her campaign corrects course and that she wins. So I want to be constructive here. What should her campaign say? Beyond the Arizona race, what should conservative candidates for federal office across the nation say about abortion in a hotly contested election year when the pro-life side has been losing at the ballot box?  It seems to me they should keep saying what they’ve been saying that has scored us lots of wins. That is, they should say that they support life, they support babies and mothers, and they respect the Supreme Court precedent established in Dobbs that abortion is a matter for the states rather than the federal government.

Homeless Woman Cares For 7-Yr-Old When Grandfather Abandons Her To Drink At Bar

Lauren Jope, who is homeless, isn’t that surprised when a stranger offers her $20. What does leave her speechless, however, is the fact that this grandpa leaves his kid with her to go to a bar. This shocking moment took place in Sacramento, California as Lauren was walking down the street. At the time the stranger spotted her, she was near a parking lot that contains a bar. There was also a thrift store nearby. According to Lauren, the man asked if she could go into the thrift store to buy his “daughter” a pair of shorts. Meanwhile, he planned to be at the bar. Afraid for the young girl’s safety, this selfless woman agreed to take care of her. @abc7newsbayarea A California man was arrested Monday on suspicion of child endangerment after leaving his granddaughter with a homeless woman to go to a bar. The 54-year-old told deputies he gave a homeless woman $20 to take his 7-year-old granddaughter to a thrift store while he went to a bar for about four hours. #california #ca #granddaughter #grandchild #grandparent #grandpa #grandfather #homeless #drinking #bar #news #fyp #foryoupage #abc7news ♬ original sound – ABC7 News After a while, it was clear to Lauren that the child’s grandfather, Jason Warren, was too intoxicated to care for her. In turn, she took the girl to her camp for some food. As they were walking back, a helicopter circled them, commanding Lauren to get on the ground. Turns out, Jason had called the police. He was highly intoxicated at that point, claiming that someone had kidnapped his granddaughter for human trafficking. Luckily, deputies were able to confirm that this was not the case. YouTube When a Grandpa Leaves His “Kid” to Drink at a Bar, This Homeless Woman Steps Up They were able to confirm Lauren didn’t kidnap her, in part, because the little girl confirmed the woman’s story. Plus, the 7-year-old wasn’t in any distress and was cleared medically, just to be safe. YouTube This sweet child is under the care of her aunt who had tasked Jason with watching her while she was at work. Now, he’s been arrested on suspicion of child endangerment. Needless to say, this has been a tough time for this family. Even still, they must be oh-so grateful that Lauren was there to help. That’s certainly how she feels. “I’m glad I was walking when I was cause you know she could have been left with some, some man or you know someone who doesn’t want to watch her. Someone that doesn’t really care,” Lauren says. You can find the source of this story’s featured image here!
