Click to Skip Ahead How Long Can Cats Disappear Reasons Why Cats Go Missing Ways You Should Search Your Cat Only You Can Decide Losing our cats can be incredibly heartbreaking. You have this unsettled feeling in your chest, knowing you have no way to tell where they are or what has happened. You’re also well aware that cats can disappear for long periods of time that can go from horse to years and then show up on your doorstep again one day, so you can’t stop holding out hope. But how long is too long? Is there an appropriate length of time to wait? As a general answer, only you can decide, but here you have some advice to know when to stop. How Long Can Cats Disappear? The reality is that some cats can go missing for days, months, and even years before resurfacing. While it isn’t necessarily a common thing for them to disappear for long periods without turning up, it is certainly a possibility, so it’s very hard to give up. There is probably a part of most pet owners that still hold out hope even for years after their kitty wound up missing. So, we want to clarify that there is no definite rule, length of time, or way to tell when it’s time to give up. Your intuition will tell you more than any article can, and not every opinion counts. If you have been diligently looking for your cat, you can back off some, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to completely give up. There’s only so much you can do to try to find your cat and then you have to leave the rest up to the universe. Below, we’re going to go over exactly how you can look for your cat and other valuable information. Image Credit: SynthEx, Shutterstock Why Do Cats Go Missing? Our cats can go missing for a variety of reasons. Here are a few different circumstances when they might lose their way or refuse to come home. Hunting Some cats are natural born hunters. If they get out there, they might be exercising their primal and instinctual behavior. Cats that are just out hunting may only stay gone for a few hours to a few days at most, unless they get lost and can’t find their way back. Mating If your cat is not spayed or neutered, they might be running off in an attempt to find or connect with a mate. Most cats that leave home for mating will be found within 500 meters of the home, but that doesn’t mean they can’t travel farther. 1 Again, they may only be gone for a few days in this case, unless they travel too far and can’t find their way back. Living Elsewhere Your cat might have made friends with a neighbor or person living down the street. If so, this other person might assume that your cat is homeless and take them in as their own. Once they get back out of the house again, they might come back to you or even stay at the other place for the remainder of their life, especially if the person they’re living with doesn’t know your cat is missing. Image Credit: Yuri A, Shutterstock Prowling Cats are real adventurers. They’re capable of traveling great distances to expand their territory. This is another situation where they could only be gone for a few days, or longer if they can’t find their way back home. Home Circumstances If you have recently moved residences, your cat might have gotten all mixed up once they step outside. After all, everything around them will be completely new. Some cats that have gone missing after a move have even found their way back to their old home if you haven’t moved too far away. However, cats can also avoid coming home if something around the household has changed recently. Whether you have welcomed in a new family member or you have a new pet, they might disapprove and leave the home for quite some time if they get the chance. Injury Unfortunately, in any of the above circumstances, your cat can become injured while out exploring or searching for a mate. In those cases, your cat might be gone for a few days while they recover. Some cats will make their way back home when they feel better, but depending on the extent of the injury, some may never make their way back home. Image Credit: VGstockstudio, Shutterstock The 6 Ways You Might Be Looking for Your Cat You have probably come up with your own ways of looking for your cat. Here are some methods you might have tried, or maybe even some you haven’t quite thought of yet. If you’ve tried all of these and still come up empty after several months, it may be time to move on, but again, the decision is up to you as to how long you want to look for your cat. 1. You’ve Posted Your Cat Everywhere The day you lost your cat, you frantically started looking for them. You were likely posting all over your social media and other places to ensure you got the word out. You have diligently been searching lost pet groups and letting your friends and family know to share the word. You may have even put up missing pet posters with a picture of your cat along with your contact information. 2. You’ve Put Your Cat’s Belongings Outside You may have put some of your cat’s belongings, such as their bed, blanket, litter box, or food, outside on your porch so that your cat can smell it and find their way home. Cats have stronger senses of smell than we do, after all. You may have even put some of your own clothing outside to help your cat find their way home using your scent. Image Credit: Wasuta23, Shutterstock 3. You’ve Looked Online You may have checked animal shelter and rescue pages in your area to make sure no one found your cat and brought them in. Many shelters that take in new animals are required to hold them for a certain period of time, such as 7 days, before they can be adopted out, and they will often post the animals on their social media or website to help get the word out 4. You’ve Looked In-Person You’ve told your neighbors; you’ve told the people down the street. Everyone’s keeping their eye out for your precious kitty. You’ve even asked your neighbors to tell their neighbors. Still, your cat hasn’t turned up. You may consider looking in animal shelters and rescues in person to see if your cat is there also. If nothing else, you can drop off your missing pet posters and the shelters can call you if your pet turns up. 5. You’ve Called Vet’s Offices You can always ask around at different vets’ offices to see if someone has possibly come in to report or turn in your pet. While vet’s offices are not necessarily the most common place for people to take stray pets, it is possible, especially if someone found your cat and the cat was injured. The vet. Image Credit: Indypendenz, Shutterstock 6. You Relied on the Microchip Database If your cat has been microchipped, there is a very good chance that someone could find your cat and take them into a vet’s office or shelter to be scanned. Unfortunately, if all of your information isn’t up to date on the microchip, it can be impossible for someone to get a hold of you. So, someone could have had your cat and taken them in but had no way to really contact the true owner. Only You Can Decide What’s Right If you feel like it’s been a really long time, or you just have a sneaking suspicion that your cat isn’t coming back, only you can decide when it’s time to give up the search. Also, just because you give up the active search doesn’t mean that you’ve given up in your heart. You will probably always still hold out hope that you get some answers about what happened to your precious kitty. However, you can only put effort towards it for so long. Maybe one day your cat will wind up on your doorstep, looking a little worse for the wear, but still home, nonetheless. Conclusion If you have been searching for your cat day in and day out, it might be time to ease up on that just a little bit. However, just keep in mind that cats can disappear for long periods of time before resurfacing again. This is especially true if your cat has never been spayed or neutered. Cats have extremely good memories and exquisite senses of smell. Even if they find themselves a long way away from home, many of them can find their way back. We will keep our fingers crossed for you! Why Do Cats Cry at Night? 8 Vet-Reviewed Reasons

The post Why Do Cats Cry at Night? 8 Vet-Reviewed Reasons by Ashley Bates appeared first on Catster. Copying over entire articles infringes on copyright laws. However, we appreciate that you like the article and would love it if you continued sharing just the first paragraph of an article, then linking out to the rest of the piece on Catster.com. Click to Skip Ahead Possible Reasons for Cats Crying at Night How to Help Your Kitten When to Call the Vet Our cats are creatures of the night, so it’s no wonder you hear them howling their song into the echoing chambers of the house when all are sleeping. With as much as you’re getting used to the sound of a banshee in your dwellings—you might wonder why it’s happening and how you can make it stop. So, let’s explore why your feline might be constantly caterwauling at night. Remember, a vet appointment should be your first course of action if you notice any other unusual signs in your cat in addition to crying. The 8 Possible Reasons for Cats Crying at Night 1. Hormones Hormones influence, well, everything. They can influence your well-behaved cat to change into an unfamiliar one overnight. Once your kitty hits sexual maturity, their brains suddenly snap into mating mode, and nothing else seems to matter. Why the increase of vocalization? Females usually use this method as a way to “cat call” male suitors when in heat. A male cat can hear and smell her up to a mile away, thanks to her powerful pheromones. So, what other behaviors do they exhibit apart from crying and shouting? So many! It depends on if the cat is male or female. For example, females in heat will often become overly affectionate, rubbing, vocalizing, and maybe even exhibiting marking behavior. Males can also spray—and they are usually the culprit. However, any cat can spray and getting them fixed won’t necessarily stop the issue. If you think your cat might be entering a heat cycle or reaching sexual maturity, it’s time to get them fixed. Many cat owners face the problem of not getting their cats fixed in time and then dealing with the consequences of the delay. You might have to use enzymatic cleaners and other methods to clean up spray, and it can be really difficult to remove. Image Credit: athree23, Pixabay 2. Boredom We all know our cats have a big need to be entertained. A lot of times, if there’s not much going on in the environment, they will make something up. Unfortunately, that can include banging, crashing, and screeching around the house while the world tries to sleep. It’s especially important for indoor cats to make sure their home environment is interesting and stimulating for them.  Encourage activity and play during the day, but if you still think your pal needs help filling their time at night, you can try to offer some quiet but interactive toys. 3. Separation Anxiety Do you keep your door shut at night? If so, your cat might experience a little separation anxiety, which can be troubling and problematic. While separation anxiety is an issue that is talked a lot about in the canine community, it is often overlooked among feline companions. Changes in your cat’s routine can also cause stress and upset. Some signs of separation anxiety and stress in cats may include: Excessive scratching of household items like furniture Excessive vocalization Elimination outside litter tray Eating less Speak to your vet if your cat shows signs of being stressed or unhappy. They will rule out any medical issues and may recommend calming supplements and adjustments to their routine and environment. They might also refer you to a cat behaviorist in more extreme cases. 4. Prowling Your cat might have a little mousey on the loose. If your cat has a high prey drive, they might use their natural instincts and sharp senses to hunt. Now, many homes don’t have mice—but those that live in the country or rural areas can attest to these little boogers intruding. If you have a cat around, they will set out to find any pesky rodents that might be lurking around. If they smell a mouse but can’t find it, it also might cause an increase in vocalization due to frustration. Image Credit: Viacheslav Lopatin, Shutterstock 5. Hunger Why do you choose to starve your cat? How dare you refuse to fill the food bowl to its brim before leaving them up all night, famished? We’re just kidding, but if your cat is feeling a little empty in the tummy, it might be a good idea to feed them closer to bedtime, if it doesn’t interfere with their schedule too much. Sometimes, you can leave a food bowl out on a rotating basis and a lot of cats can manage themselves. Others will wreak havoc on the whole food bowl in one sitting. So, it can be difficult to keep a voracious eater happy! You can always offer other bedtime snacks, like a bowl of broth or a lickable snack to keep them busy. 6. Age-Related Confusion Our cats decline as they age in all regards. The once spry, bright-eyed little cat wanes into a slower, more sunken version of themselves as their bodies give way to age. With the natural bodily changes that occur, their cognitive abilities can take a hit also. Much like dementia and Alzheimer’s in people, cats can develop a much similar issue called cognitive dysfunction syndrome (CDS.) This is the equivalent to feline dementia, usually due to a buildup of beta amyloid in the brain, which causes death and loss of brain neurons. It can affect them in many different facets of their life—from staring aimlessly into space to crying at night. In addition to forgetting basic concepts, it can trigger a whirlwind of other signs. Some other signs can include:  Acting disoriented Changes in personality Forgetting to eat or drink Going to the bathroom outside of the litter box Poor grooming habits Sleep cycle changes Staring into space Your cat doesn’t necessarily have to have CDS to exhibit signs. It can also mimic other things, some of which are time-sensitive. Some other issues that cause confusion in older cats can be health conditions like chronic kidney disease and deafness. Image Credit: Tunatura, Shutterstock 7. Other Health Issues Age doesn’t necessarily have to be the primary factor to consider for a health issue. Even kittens can develop or are born with conditions that can cause signs as they grow. Only a vet can truly determine if a health issue is the underlying cause for your cat screaming. Your vet will do a full physical exam and may run a series of bloodwork, urine samples, and even imaging if they suspect a problem. Here are some of the most frequently associated health issues with meowing at night. You might notice many of the same signs in each category, which is why it is so imperative to get a proper diagnosis! Hyperthyroidism Hyperthyroidism is caused by one or both of the thyroid glands becoming enlarged and overactive. This leads to an increase in the production of thyroid hormones, which are responsible for regulating many body processes. If your cat has an overactive thyroid, they will likely begin displaying lots of signs—although it might be more difficult to detect at first. Some signs of hyperthyroidism include: Weight loss Increased appetite Increased thirst Increased activity, restlessness or irritability Poor coat quality If your vet thinks your cat might be hyperthyroid, they will run blood tests to check their hormone levels. If your cat has the issue, there are a number of treatment options available including medical management and surgical removal of the affected thyroid tissue. Kidney Disease Kidney disease is a serious health condition that can threaten your buddy’s life when untreated. While kidney disease can develop at any age, it is more common among the older cat population. Chronic kidney disease, or CKD, is a common problem of older cats. It happens when the kidneys slowly stop working over a period of months to years. The waste products that the kidneys normally remove build up in the bloodstream. Signs for CKD in cats include: Drinking more Urinating more Eating less Weight loss Vomiting Poor coat While there is no cure for CKD, there are ways that your vet can manage the condition, reduce the signs, and slow the progression of the disease. It is vital to your cat’s wellbeing to get diagnosis and treatment as quickly as possible. Image Credit: Pressmaster, Shutterstock Arthritis If you have a touch of arthritis, or know someone who does, you probably know just how painful it can be, and it’s the same for our cats. Often, signs might exacerbate at night once your cat is mobile. Osteoarthritis can develop in cats of any age, but mainly the senior population suffers. It is not always known what has caused arthritis but mechanical wear and tear in the joints plays a part, and it can also develop secondary to a joint injury or abnormality. Cats are very good at hiding the signs of pain and discomfort, but signs of arthritis may include: Difficulty getting up or jumping onto surfaces Going to the bathroom out of the litter box Hiding Lameness Reduced activity Reduced grooming, poor coat Temperament changes e.g. more irritable If your cat has arthritis, it will need to be treated with medications. Environmental modifications and diet changes or supplements can also help. 8. Pain Pain can come from many different sources apart from arthritis. Some can be noticeable, like an obvious breakage, skin abrasion, or wound. Others are more difficult to detect, like dental disease or abscesses. If you think your cat is crying at night or any other time due to pain, it is important to make an appointment with your vet. How to Help Your Cat at Night Ways to help your cat will depend greatly on the underlying issue. If there is a health concern, veterinary assessment and treatment is essential. If it is as simple as hunger or feeling bored, you can offer them snacks and entertainment to keep them busy. If your cat has a health condition (with the exception of separation anxiety), you might want to confine them into a single space at night for safety and comfort, speak to your vet for advice about whether this is the right option for your feline. Make sure the litter box is easy to access and food is in the bowl—in case they get too hungry! Image Credit: Vova Shevchuk, Shutterstock When to Call the Vet Call your vet anytime you think your cat might have something going on that you can’t deal with at home. It’s always best to be safe than put off an issue that requires treatment. Advice and treatment will depend on what your vet determines is the underlying reason for your cat crying at night. Conclusion Hopefully, you have a firmer understanding about what could trigger your cat to cry at night. It might be different for every cat, but often the answer is quite simple. Don’t get too disheartened right away—and certainly voice any major concerns with your vet. Muhammad Ali: A Look Inside Boxing’s Most Vicious Butterfly

Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee" was first uttered by Muhammad Ali in 1964 before a fight with Sonny Liston. Ali wasn't supposed to live through the match but refused to back down. He even added, "the hands can't hit what the eyes can't see." Not many athletes have ever backed up their words with as much fame and success as Ali did. Of course, his life story is more than just a quote... Source

Coup Upon Coup Upon Coup

In March 2020, all the major Democratic primary candidates abruptly, mysteriously, and in near unison withdrew from the presidential race, ceding the nomination to Joe Biden.Yet Biden had lost the first three races in Iowa, New Hampshire, and Nevada—and only won his first victory in South Carolina.Suddenly, on the eve of the Super Tuesday megaprimaries, the candidacies of front-runner Bernie Sanders, Pete Buttigieg, Elizabeth Warren, and others simply evaporated. The fear of Sanders’ socialist victory and nomination—and thus an enviable landslide loss to incumbent Donald Trump in the general election—had prompted the donor class and shadowy political insiders to act.And they did so by choosing a perceived moderate, old Joe Biden from Scranton, Pennsylvania. That required the coerced departures of all his far-left rivals, who had hitherto performed much better than Biden in the primaries. Now front-runner Biden still displayed obvious symptoms of serious cognitive decline that had only seemed to mount through the 2020 campaign. And his dementia continued to accelerate during his first three years as president.Biden had deceitfully promised to conduct a healing campaign and a unifying presidency. But once in the White House, his extreme agendas proved the most divisive and far-left in nearly a century.Rumors of that March 2020 Faustian bargain emerged. The Bidens got to serve as useful moderate veneers. So, they enjoyed the ceremonial functions of the presidency while outsourcing the real operations to former Obama administration officials, consultants, and advisers.Indeed, Barack Obama did not, as most ex-presidents do, exit Washington upon leaving the White House. Instead, he bought a mansion and stayed close by.Democrats demonized anyone critical of Biden’s obvious mental decline. Their smearing crested during Biden’s now-aborted 2024 reelection bid, even as Biden could no longer display even a veneer of mental and physical engagement.Polls revealed an impending Trump landslide victory in November—and a massive Democratic loss of Congress. So suddenly on Sunday, July 21—just days left before state ballots were formalized with the names of the parties’ official nominees, and on the eve of the Democratic convention—party bosses, megadonors, and Obama puppeteers went into action for yet a third time. They reportedly threatened candidate Biden with a complete loss of any further campaign funding and raised the specter of invoking the 25th Amendment to end his presidency—should he not suddenly withdraw from the race and endorse Vice President Kamala Harris as his surrogate on the ticket. In one moment, the choices of nearly 15 million Biden primary voters were vitiated. No delegates were consulted. No other alternative Democrat candidates were even considered.Biden was dethroned; Harris was coronated—without much public input or even knowledge of how or why.Democrat grandees stopped smearing Biden’s conservative critics, who had worried over his dementia. Instead, they now trumped opposition criticism of Biden’s decline.Yet Biden most certainly did not resign his presidency. Instead, he promised to serve out his remaining six months in office. So Democrat insiders not only removed their leading candidate, who for the prior six months had won all the 2024 primaries and almost all the delegates, but insisted that Biden keep Democrats and himself in power—but only if he agreed to quit the race.In sum, at the 11th hour of a two-year reelection effort, a cabal arbitrarily decided that Biden might well lose the Democrats the White House and the Congress. So, they reversed course, now claiming his dementia was so acute as to destroy their prospects Nov. 5. But mysteriously, his decline was not severe enough to imperil the American people, whom Biden must continue to lead until Jan. 20, 2025.Furthermore, the bosses’ replacement choice, Harris, had entered no primary. She never won a single delegate. Harris also never captured a single delegate in her first and only presidential run, back in 2020. She then dropped out of the race even before the first Iowa and New Hampshire balloting. We have now witnessed three left-wing veritable coups. In 2020, covert actors decided to ossify the Democratic primary races. Next, they conferred the nomination on a clearly cognitively challenged Biden. He was now tasked with serving as a useful moderate vessel for a virtual, even more radical, Obama third term. The same operators next assumed virtual control of Biden’s presidential agenda, given his accelerating cognitive decline. When that charade could no longer be sustained for a third time, they circumvented the normal transparent democratic process. So, they removed the once useful but now a liability Biden—while insisting that he was still fit enough to keep the Left in power—until the anticipated Harris victory in November. And all of this was the shadow work of those who sanctimoniously lectured America that “democracy dies in darkness.” (C) 2024 Tribune Content Agency LLC We publish a variety of perspectives. Kamala Harris ‘Owns Each and Every One’ of Joe Biden’s Policies, Conservatives Tell Congress

FIRST ON THE DAILY SIGNAL—Vice President Kamala Harris “owns each and every one” of President Joe Biden’s failures, according to a conservative organization that sent a list of Biden’s policies Thursday to every congressional office. “Though the Left and media are out to wipe out the past failures of Harris during the Biden administration, her record is permanently engrained in the minds of the American people,” Paul Teller, executive director at Advancing American Freedom, told The Daily Signal in a written statement. Advancing American Freedom, founded by former Vice President Mike Pence, advocates conservative policies on Capitol Hill. Teller said he sent the letter to equip policymakers with a resource: a “tracker” marking the ways that Advancing American Freedom claims Biden’s policies have failed Americans. The “Biden Accountability Tracker” presents a list of “disturbing and harmful actions,” including “each significant policy decision made, executive action taken, or regulation promulgated by the administration that hurts the American people,” the organization’s letter to lawmakers explains. “Our organization has kept a rolling record of the failures of the Biden-Harris administration since 2021, from reversing Trump-Pence border policies, to pushing an expensive and burdensome climate agenda, failing to protect women’s sports, and using the FDA to make the dangerous abortion drug mifepristone available by mail,” Teller told The Daily Signal. “Kamala Harris owns each and every one of these failings, along with her own record from her time as California attorney general and as a senator.” “It is clear her policies are left of Biden and that she has it out for conservatives and the freedom-loving community,” Teller added. Teller’s reference to Harris’ having it out for conservatives touched on the vice president’s record from her time as California attorney general. For example, Harris directed her office to search the home of pro-life investigative journalist David Daleiden, who had exposed Planned Parenthood officials’ selling aborted baby body parts for profit. She prepared a legal case against Daleiden, which her successor as California attorney general—now Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra—brought against the pro-life journalist. Harris also demanded sensitive donor information from two conservative organizations, Americans for Prosperity and the American Freedom Law Center, after her office had leaked sensitive donor information and after some on the Left had launched a video game in which players acted out a shooting at Americans for Prosperity headquarters. The tracker focuses on illegal immigration, Israel, climate, and social issues. Immigration policies may weigh heavily on Harris since Biden tapped her to help craft his approach by investigating the “root causes” of illegal immigration. The tracker highlights key immigration policies Biden put into place Jan. 20, 2021, the first day of his presidency. It notes Biden’s orders that the apportionment of congressional districts will include illegal aliens, his revival of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, and his suspension of the Migrant Protection Protocols (also known as the “Remain in Mexico” policy). The tracker also notes Biden’s 100-day pause in deportations and his decision to rejoin the World Health Organization despite its record and ties to China during the COVID-10 pandemic. The tracker notes an Office of Personnel Management policy aimed at circumventing Schedule F, a Trump-era reform that would make it easier for presidents to fire administrative staff who didn’t do their jobs or who undermined a president’s policies. It also highlights what Advancing American Freedom characterizes as “harmful Biden administration policy surrounding the conflict in Gaza,” such as the president’s demand for Israel to adopt a cease-fire in its campaign to wipe out Hamas’ military capabilities following the terrorist group’s Oct. 7 terrorist attacks in Israel. The tracker also highlights how legislation Biden signed into law directed funds to renewable energy technologies that rely on America’s top adversary, China. Members of the House and the Senate, and their constituents, may access the tracker on Advancing American Freedom’s website or below.
