In a wide-ranging interview on the latest episode of “The Ben Shapiro Show Sunday Special,” military historian Victor Davis Hanson warned that America’s global dominance is waning as the nation grapples with growing debt, internal divisions, and a weakening military. Shapiro opened the discussion by mentioning Hanson’s latest book, “The End of Everything: How Wars Descend into Annihilation,” and asked the historian to weigh in on the current state of global affairs, especially considering that “there’s obviously a vacancy at the top of the American government.”  “So when you look at the world scene, how dangerous are things and where are the chief lines of danger?” he asked Hanson.  “Well, you know, in the book, I looked at four historical examples of complete civilizational erasure. And there were common themes. One is that a society that is targeted or vulnerable has no idea that it is it has it keeps reassuring itself that its grandeur is still there. It’s still powerful and has eerie similarities to the United States,” Hanson said. “They have no idea about the people who are attacking them.”  “We’ve had Mr. Erdogan in Turkey threaten to send missiles into Athens, send missiles into Israel, send missiles into Armenia. We have Kim Jong Un acting up again … China has made a video talking about destroying Japan if it were to intervene. And all of this is dismissed as rhetoric. And, you know, 99% of it may be. But we’re getting to a point now where the United States [which] is the keeper of deterrence worldwide, is no longer there for a variety of reasons.”  Some of those reasons, Hanson said, include America’s national debt and soldier shortage.  “We don’t have the economic clout with $36 trillion in debt. We’re borrowing a trillion every 90 days. We’re short 45,000 soldiers,” Hanson told Shapiro. He added that divisive racial rhetoric targeted at rural white men has hindered the U.S. military.  “People don’t remark at all that those are the soldiers of the white male world demographic that died at two times their numbers in the general populations in God-awful places like Afghanistan and Iraq, 75% of those fatalities came from that demographic,” he said. “Yet we alienated them. [Gen. Mark] Milley [and] Secretary of Defense [Lloyd] Austin calling them names [like] ‘white supremacy, white privilege.’ So I’m very worried.”  The historian also critiqued what he sees as inconsistencies in U.S. foreign policy, particularly regarding Israel and Ukraine. He argued the Biden administration has been overly critical of Israel’s military operations while giving Ukraine more leeway. “Ukraine is an ally, but it’s not an ally like Israel. And yet we tell the Israelis, you have to be proportionate. Ukraine, you got to see disproportionality. Israel, you have to have a cease-fire. Ukraine, you’ve got to keep fighting to the bitter end. Israel, you’ve got to have a coalition government. You’ve got to have elections. We don’t trust you, Netanyahu. Zelensky, we don’t have a problem with outlawing political parties.”  Regarding domestic issues, Hanson pointed to unchecked immigration and an expanding administrative state as factors contributing to America’s decline.  “When we let in 10 to 12 million people and we think that they’re going to work really hard … I don’t think that’s going to happen,” he stated. “I think what happens at this late stage, they get on entitlements or they commit crimes and they have no respect for any society that would let them in. And that’s a good sign of a decline that you don’t have a defensible border.”  The historian and author did express some optimism regarding domestic politics. He suggested that if former President Trump were to win re-election, he could potentially “heal the country very quickly.”

FIRST ON THE DAILY SIGNAL—Students in a Southern California school district could be forced to choose between rooming with a transgender-identifying student or missing out on an overnight school field trip.  If parents complain about their child rooming with a transgender-identifying student of the opposite biological sex, staff in the Newport-Mesa Unified School District listen to the parents’ concerns, then say that the child’s rooming assignment isn’t the parents’ choice, according to emails from 2021 and 2022 obtained by the Center for American Liberty and shared with The Daily Signal. The only option for students who are uncomfortable staying in a room with transgender students is to opt out of the trip, Sarah Coley, the school district’s administrative director, said in an email to school district employees regarding a sixth-grade science trip. “You would say to the students/parents, ‘If you have questions about the assignment, please feel free to discuss with me,’” Coley wrote in the email. “Then, if a parent says ‘hey, I don’t want my student with [who],’ you could provide an ear to listen and consider whether the student is a good fit, but the eventual response would be, ‘If you / your student is not comfortable with the rooming assignments and process of staying with other students in a room, then they can elect not to participate in this optional trip.’”  Coley’s email continues: “Parents and students do not get to pick, and saying I don’t want to stay with ‘Susie’ because ‘Susie isn’t a real girl,’ is no different than saying, ‘I don’t want to stay with Sara because Sara is [white/older/non-religious, etc.]’” Coley, a 2018 graduate of California State University Long Beach, did not respond to The Daily Signal’s request for comment.  A mother who asked to remain anonymous due to concerns about threats to her family told The Daily Signal that parents should be able to assume their child is safe with school officials, but they can’t in the Newport-Mesa district. The mother said she chose to take her children out of the district and homeschool them a few years ago. “You just have to assume that my child is not safe, which is really scary,” she said. “The school does not have your child’s best interest at heart. They are more concerned with social justice issues.” Mark Trammell, executive director of the Center for American Liberty, the group that conducted the public records request, criticized what he called the Newport-Mesa school district’s inconsistency in using privacy rights to hide gender identity from parents while ignoring privacy rights in making rooming assignments. “It is ironic that school districts cite a student’s right to privacy as justification for schools keeping secrets from parents, but completely disregard student privacy rights when forcing girls to room with a boy pretending to be a girl,” Trammell said in an email to The Daily Signal. “Either the right to privacy exists or it doesn’t; schools cannot selectively apply it when it advances their woke political narratives.” Newport-Mesa is the same school district where a high school promoted an LGBTQ organization that helps minors find referrals for irreversible transgender surgeries and hormone regimens. Newport Harbor High School in Newport Beach, California, has scannable QR codes in its hallways that take students to an “LGBTQ+ Resources” webpage, including a link to “LGBTQ Affirming Therapy.” The high school took down its resource page after the publication of The Daily Signal’s report on Wednesday. Coley also championed “Sexuality and Gender Galaxies” in emails to school district staff members that provide definitions of terms, including “two spirit,” “asexual,” “polysexual,” “clear platonic,” and “androgynous.”  According to the emails, Coley also is the point of contact for “Gender Support Plans,” which ask the person filling out such a form to indicate the level of support of a student’s parents for his or her gender identity. Students ages 12 and older may formulate gender support plans in the Newport-Mesa school district without parental knowledge or consent.  The district hides these Gender Support Plans in a “locked drawer in the admin’s office,” emails show.  In an email Thursday to The Daily Signal, the Newport-Mesa school district denied that it uses such support plans. “We do not refer students for gender-affirming care nor do we have gender support plans without parental involvement,” public relations officer Annette Franco wrote in the email. “The student-driven resources are intended to complement the essential role that parents play in their children’s lives.” In another email to district staff, Coley said students as young as 2 years old may be transgender, so the school district should use preferred pronouns for all ages—and respect the wishes of students of all ages to hide his or her gender identity from parents.  “The student’s age is not a factor,” Coley wrote in the email. “For example, children as early as age two are expressing a different gender identity.” “It is strongly suggested that teachers privately ask transgender or gender nonconforming students at the beginning of the school year how they want to be addressed in class, in correspondence to the home, or at conferences with the student’s parents,” Coley wrote.  The administrator said that intentionally using a student’s given name and personal pronouns instead of their preferred ones qualifies as “harassment.”  “If a member of the school community intentionally uses a student’s incorrect name and pronoun, or persistently refuses to respect a student’s chosen name and pronouns, that conduct should be treated as harassment,” Coley said in the email. “That type of harassment can create a hostile learning environment, violate the transgender student’s privacy rights, and increase that student’s risk for harassment by other members of the school community.” The post EXCLUSIVE: California School District Forces Students to Room With Trans Classmates to Go on Overnight Trips  appeared first on The Daily Signal.

MUFON is the largest ufological organization in the USA and the world. It consists of about 700 enthusiastic researchers who have been collecting and analyzing UFO and suspected alien sightings since the 1960s. Its archives contain about 137,000 reports from eyewitnesses. In January 2024, a video of an unusual UFO shaped like a jellyfish flying over a US military base in Iraq was released online. Initially skeptical, MUFON ufologists quickly discovered that jellyfish-like UFOs are not a new phenomenon, as their archives are full of similar observations. The footage, released by journalist Jeremy Corbell this week, was apparently filmed by the U.S. military in 2018 and, according to Corbell, the object seen in the video has been officially designated a UAP — unknown aerial phenomenon — by the Pentagon. So far, the Pentagon has not publicly weighed in or released a formal statement about the footage. These objects resemble an oval body with dangling tentacles or threads, hence the name “jellyfish,” though they are sometimes called “squid.” This squid was spotted in Russia in 1977 (MUFON) What’s especially alarming is that these flying jellyfish don’t just watch us from above; sometimes they “hunt” people and are even said to “suck” life energy from them. Previously, jellyfish UFOs were frequently seen in Denmark. According to ufologist Bob Spearing, the MUFON archive contains many drawings and photographs of Danish jellyfish UFOs from the 1970s. In one case in Singapore, several jellyfish UFOs with tentacles shimmering in different colors entered a woman’s bedroom while she was sleeping. “She noticed strange squid-like objects with bioluminescent tentacles in the corner of the room. One of these creatures, whatever it was, attached itself to her back, causing her pain and waking her up,” says Bob Spearing. “The creature was intelligent because it immediately jumped away. The woman felt it was really worried, as if she had a telepathic connection with it.” According to the woman, the “squid” seemed to be trying to suck the life force out of her. Among other stories, there were sightings of jellyfish UFOs in Vancouver in 2016 and 2024, and two more in Iran. It was half blue, half red, and looked very much like a real sea creature. The jellyfish hovered above her before landing on the floor. “The jellyfish disappeared after a few minutes. The next day, the woman noticed a scar several inches long on her stomach. It itched and burned as if from the inside. Jacques Vallée, a renowned computer scientist and ufologist, proposed a theory that UFOs and related phenomena might be manifestations of beings from other dimensions. These entities, according to Vallée, may not necessarily be extraterrestrial but could belong to a reality operating under different physical laws. This hypothesis suggests that the phenomenon of alien visitors might originate not from our physical reality or outer space but from alternate realities or parallel universes. Similarly, Dr. Allen Hynek, in his later years, expressed skepticism about the traditional view of UFOs as spacecraft from other worlds.
