Zakaria: 'Christian Nationalism‚' Islamism‚ Xi Agree Women Are 'Too Uppity'

CNN’s Fareed Zakaria took his book tour to CBS and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Wednesday‚ where he claimed that if there is one thing that unites the “right-wing reactionary movements” of Christian Nationalism (whatever that means)‚ Islamic fundamentalism‚ and ultra-Orthodox Israelis‚ it is that belief that “women have gotten to uppity.” For good measure‚ Zakaria also threw in Chinese dictator Xi Jinping. Colbert asked‚ “The subtitle for this book is Age of Revolutions: Progress and Backlash from 1600 to the Present. What would you say the main modern backlash we are experiencing right now is?”      Zakaria began by going through the typical talk about globalization and social media before proclaiming that “I would say the principal one has been this one of we've really moved‚ think about it‚ you know‚ we've always through human history had some group has up or down‚ but women for tens of thousands of years were second-class citizens and that has changed dramatically in the last 30 years. So‚ think about it‚ right‚ 10‚ 15‚ 20‚000 years of history and then in the last 30 years we upended the basic structure of the family.” He continued‚ “Look at the right-wing reactionary movements all over the world‚ whether it's Islamic fundamentalism‚ whether it's Christian nationalism‚ whether it's the ultra-orthodox in Israel‚ they all‚ the come of principal concern is often women have gotten too uppity. You know‚ let’s move‚ Xi Jinping gave a speech the other day in which he said women basically need to go back to the kitchen and they need to start having babies again.” Zakaria is hardly alone in using “Christian nationalism” as a scary-sounding term without ever defining it or explaining how it differs from traditionally understood conservative Christianity‚ but lumping it in with Islamic fundamentalism as “right-wing” and communist dictators strongly suggests Zakaria is just using it to simply mean “bad and scary.”   Earlier in the interview‚ the Joe Biden fundraiser Colbert mourned‚ “On your show‚ Fareed Zakaria GPS‚ on CNN‚ you recently covered low approval ratings‚ which is just below 40 percent right now‚ 39.3‚ something like that‚ despite the economy doing pretty well right now especially compared to other countries.” He then asked‚ “looking at the rest of the globe‚ how does our economy stack against the major industrialized nations right now?” Zakaria replied with statistics that have nothing to do with Biden‚ “We are doing much better than any of the other major economies in the world. To give you a simple number‚ in 2008 the Eurozone‚ Europe basically‚ and the U.S. economies were the same size. Today the U.S. economy is twice the size of the Eurozone economy. If Britain were to join the United States as the 51st state‚ it would be that poorest state in the union‚ below Mississippi.” That stat‚ which is a little more complicated and says more about Britain’s mismanagement than Biden’s supposed successes‚ left Colbert and his audience in awe. For his part‚ Zakaria continued in his lamentations‚ “We are doing amazingly. But what has happened is‚ people for a while said‚ 'we don't realize it‚ we're feeling the inflation.' Well‚ for the last 18 months‚ consumer sentiment has been going up‚ but Biden’s approval ratings still flat lined. What's really happened is our political identities are no longer shaped by economics as it used to be for so many years.” Zakaria would go on to lament tribalism in politics‚ which is laughable considering he would soon compare conservatives to Islamists and communists. Here is a transcript for the March 27 show: CBS The Late Show with Stephen Colbert 3/28/2024 12:25 AM ET STEPHEN COLBERT: On your show‚ Fareed Zakaria GPS‚ on CNN‚ you recently covered low approval ratings‚ which is just below 40 percent right now‚ 39.3‚ something like that— FAREED ZAKARIA: 38‚ 39‚ exactly. COLBERT: -- despite the economy doing pretty well right now especially compared to other countries‚ looking at the rest of the globe‚ how does our economy stack against the major industrialized nations right now?  FAREED ZAKARIA: We are doing much better than any of the other major economies in the world. To give you a simple number‚ in 2008 the Eurozone‚ Europe basically‚ and the U.S. economies were the same size. Today the U.S. economy is twice the size of the Eurozone economy.  If Britain were to join the United States as the 51st state‚ it would be that poorest state in the union‚ below Mississippi. COLBERT: Wow. ZAKARIA: We are doing amazingly. But what has happened is‚ people for a while said “we don't realize it‚ we're feeling the inflation.” Well‚ for the last 18 months‚ consumer sentiment has been going up‚ but Biden’s approval ratings still flat lined. What's really happened is our political identities are no longer shaped by economics as it used to be for so many years.  They are shaped by culture‚ by class‚ by religion‚ by all these tribal identities and that was part of the reason I wrote the book because I realize this began with Obama‚ this-- it used to be the tightest connection in predictive polling‚ which was your view the economy‚ president's approval rating always roughly the same. Now‚ under Obama‚ the stock market tripled under Obama. His approval ratings didn't move much. … COLBERT: You say‚ the subtitle for this book is "Age of revolutions: Progress and backlash from 1600 to the present." What would you say the main modern backlash we are experiencing right now is?  ZAKARIA: I think it's really all around us‚ this identity stuff. There’s a backlash against globalization‚ there’s a backlash against the open information revolution‚ you know‚ a lot of people are saying it's too much‚ social media is‚ kind of‚ ruining our lives. But I would say the principal one has been this one of we've really moved‚ think about it‚ you know‚ we've always through human history had some group has up or down‚ but women for tens of thousands of years were second-class citizens and that has changed dramatically in the last 30 years. So‚ think about it‚ right‚ 10‚ 15‚ 20‚000 years of history and then in the last 30 years we upended the basic structure of the family.  Well‚ look at the right-wing reactionary movements all over the world‚ whether it's Islamic fundamentalism‚ whether it's Christian nationalism‚ whether it's the ultra-orthodox in Israel‚ they all‚ the come of principal concern is often women have gotten too uppity. You know‚ let’s move‚ Xi Jinping gave a speech the other day in which he said women basically need to go back to the kitchen and they need to start having babies again.

MSNBC: One Man’s ‘Election Denier’ Is Another Man’s TV Host

MSNBC‚ the “news” outfit on which the Rev. Al Sharpton has a show‚ briefly hired former Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel‚ at $300‚000 per year‚ to serve as an on-air pundit. Why did the rabidly anti-Trump‚ anti-Republican Sharpton make her the offer? MSNBC likely did so because 2024 is an election year; McDaniel was available‚ having been pressured into leaving her post by former President Donald Trump‚ the inside story of which MSNBC viewers would salivate over; her ouster from the RNC suggests bad blood between her and Trump and therefore‚ from MSNBC’s point of view‚ a welcome willingness for a high-profile Republican to dish some anti-Trump dirt; or because McDaniel could bring a different perspective to MSNBC’s lineup of hosts and guests who unanimously parrot the narrative that Trump is a “racist” and “election denier” who‚ on Jan. 6‚ 2021‚ committed “insurrection.” “Why‚” likely went MSNBC’s thinking‚ “we are‚ after all‚ a ‘news’ organization -- and maybe McDaniel could increase ratings by attracting some non-Trump-hating viewers.” The better question is why McDaniel accepted the offer. While Trump wanted her out‚ she cheered him on during his presidency‚ supported Trump’s claim of 2020 election fraud and characterized what happened on Jan. 6 as “legitimate political discourse.” How will that sit with an MSNBC lineup that routinely compares Trump to Hitler and deems Trump an existential threat to the republic? Immediately after McDaniel’s hiring‚ former NBC “Meet the Press” moderator and current NBC chief political analyst Chuck Todd said‚ “There’s a reason a lot of journalists at NBC News are uncomfortable with this.” Todd proceeded to accuse McDaniel of “gaslighting” journalists and engaging in anti-media “character assassination.” In what turned out to be McDaniel’s first and only on-air interview as a pundit‚ MSNBC host Kristen Welker asked McDaniel‚ “Why should people trust what you’re saying right now?” Welker also asked‚ “Did you not have a responsibility as the RNC chair to say before Jan. 6‚ ‘The election is not rigged’?” Days later‚ MSNBC terminated McDaniel. To the MSNBC hosts who rioted‚ the McDaniel hiring crossed the line. But isn’t this the same MSNBC that hired Sharpton‚ American’s preeminent race card hustler‚ to host a show? Sharpton is the Tawana Brawley-lying‚ Crown Heights riot/Freddy’s Fashion Mart incendiary‚ tax deadbeat and would-be cocaine dealer who has made anti-white and antisemitic slurs. After McDaniel’s hiring‚ MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough said he and his “Morning Joe” co-host would not allow McDaniel to appear as a guest. But Sharpton‚ Scarborough’s colleague‚ regularly appears on the show. In 2000‚ when Scarborough served as a Republican member of the U.S. House of Representatives‚ he proposed a resolution called “Condemning the racist and anti-Semitic views of the Reverend Al Sharpton.” It read in part: “Whereas the Congress strongly rejects the racist and incendiary actions of the Reverend Al Sharpton; “Whereas the Reverend Al Sharpton has referred to members of the Jewish faith as ‘bloodsucking [J]ews’‚ and ‘Jew bastards’; “Whereas the Reverend Al Sharpton has referred to members of the Jewish faith as ‘white interlopers’ and ‘diamond merchants’; “Whereas the Reverend Al Sharpton was found guilty of defamation by a jury in a New York court arising from the false accusation that former Assistant District Attorney Steven Pagones‚ who is white‚ raped and assaulted a fifteen year-old black girl; ... “Whereas the Reverend Al Sharpton’s vicious verbal anti-Semitic attacks directed at members of the Jewish faith‚ and in particular‚ a Jewish landlord‚ arising from a simple landlord-tenant dispute with a black tenant‚ incited widespread violence‚ riots‚ and the murder of five innocent people; ... “Whereas the Reverend Al Sharpton led a protest in the Crown Heights neighborhood and marched next to a protester with a sign that read‚ ‘The White Man is the Devil ...’” Apparently‚ all is forgiven. Sharpton is also‚ to use MSNBC’s parlance‚ an “election denier‚” and an egregious one at that. About the 2016 election‚ Sharpton said: “There’s no question that the process that elected (Trump) was not legitimate. When you look at now the evidence from the intelligence agencies that there was the influence from the Russians ...” So‚ McDaniel out‚ Sharpton in. One man’s “election denier” is another man’s MSNBC host.

EXCLUSIVE: China Expert Gordon Chang Rips WashPost for Defending Gov’t-Big Tech Collusion

The Washington Post Editorial Board went to bat for the federal government colluding with Big Tech to police so-called disinformation online. Gatestone Institute Senior Fellow Gordon Chang was having none of it. “Don’t defund the fight against Russia and China’s disinformation‚” decried the Board in the editorial. In the editorial‚ the Board defended the State Department-tied Global Engagement Center’s financing of the now-infamous Global Disinformation Index (initially based in the U.K.)‚ which has since been panned for blacklisting right-leaning American media. The Post propagandized how the GEC “deploys a $61 million budget and a staff of 125 to counter disinformation from Russia‚ China‚ Iran and terrorist organizations.” The only problem‚ as Chang pointed out in an exclusive interview with MRC Free Speech America‚ is that these pretexts are smokescreens the federal government has consistently deployed to violate the First Amendment rights of U.S. citizens. Chang rebuked The Post for parroting the government’s excuse of fighting “disinformation” to police online speech: “You have a clear attack on the First Amendment‚ and you have mainstream media supporting it. I mean‚ these guys [The Post] — aren’t they going to find out that at some point the government can use it against them?” Chang doubled down: “The First Amendment is absolutely essential for the preservation of democracy. And we should not have‚ especially newspapers‚ advocating unconstitutional restrictions on the First Amendment. It’s just as simple as that.”  In Chang’s view‚ “The most important thing is [that] we must delegitimize the concept of disinformation” in order to de-fang the government from using the evergreen newspeak concept as license to infringe on free speech. Rather‚ Chang argued that the marketplace of ideas is the best arena where false information can be filtered out‚ not through the police state tactics of coercive government oversight.  Despite the glaring evidence The Post‚ true to form‚ dismissed members of Congress and other entities who “have complained that the [GEC] is part of an effort to muffle conservative speech and ideas in the United States.” The leftist newspaper attempted to distinguish between what the GEC specifically financed GDI for — a disinformation tool in Asia — and the latter’s blacklisting of U.S.-based “conservative” media outlets. In its ludicrous justification‚ The Post wrote that GDI's targeting of “conservative” media and what the government specifically funded were “separate projects‚” completely dismissing the reality that money is fungible.  Similarly‚ The Post also slapped down The Daily Wire and The Federalist’s lawsuit against the GEC for allegedly infringing on their First Amendment rights as “misguided” because The Global Engagement Center supposedly “does not look at what goes on inside the United States — all its programs are for fighting disinformation abroad. The GEC also instructs its grantees not to work in the United States.” President Joe Biden’s press team couldn’t have generated a better public relations campaign on behalf of the GEC. But as the House Judiciary Committee summarized in a Nov. 6‚ 2023 report‚ “The GEC and GEC-funded entities have‚ on multiple occasions‚ flagged content to social media platforms that included Americans engaged in constitutionally protected speech.” Twitter Files journalist Matt Taibbi directly illustrated GEC’s targeting of domestic actors‚ rendering The Post’s gaslighting to the contrary a total crock.  GDI was also just named in another House Judiciary report for co-authoring a “hate groups” blacklist featuring “conservative” and faith-based organizations. The report documented how the Department of Treasury used such a blacklisty to pressure banks to surrender customer data. These allegations further illustrate how the federal government doesn’t have any issues using GDI‚ including the GEC by extension‚ to target U.S. citizens. GEC is even on record defending its GDI funding‚ even after the uncovering of the latter’s dystopian vendetta to target the advertisers of “conservative” American media. To be clear‚ said Chang‚ the communist Chinese regime (and the Russian government by extension) doesn’t have a First Amendment right in their malicious info operations‚ “and we can deal with that in other ways that are constitutional‚ but that’s not what is really at stake here.” He further warned‚ “What we’re talking about is the U.S. government funding an attack on the First Amendment.” Chang rebutted the GEC and The Post’s attempts to make it seem like the GEC is predominantly focused on speech happening abroad in light of numerous instances of anecdotal evidence showing the Biden administration targeting domestic speech: “These are purely domestic actors in a purely domestic context‚ and the First Amendment clearly protects speech and clearly — in my mind — prohibits what the Biden administration is doing.”  Chang argued that the obsession with so-called disinformation — especially amongst the younger generation of Americans — stems from what he called a “fundamental misunderstanding of the marketplace of ideas.” Chang argued that the First Amendment “protects disinformation” and  “what people call ‘hate speech’ because we believe the best ideas will work out.”  What the Biden administration is doing in fomenting government oversight of online speech (e.g. The Disinformation Governance Board) is “starting a slippery slope” towards even more draconian measures down the road. In essence‚ this is “clearly prohibited conduct. It’s just unconstitutional‚” Chang continued.  But The Post‚ which is the epitome of a First Amendment beneficiary‚ still found justification for some kinds of government infringements to root out the so-called “purveyors of lies‚” and even used chilling‚ counterinsurgency language to make its case: The House Republicans who are taking down the GEC could‚ more constructively‚ reauthorize the program with legislative language that would ban any operations in the United States. By eliminating the program altogether‚ they would deny the United States a vital tool in a contest for hearts and minds around the world — while rewarding the purveyors of lies‚ [emphasis added.]  Chang retorted by pointing out that “the First Amendment protects almost all speech” and that it has “very few restrictions on it.” There’s just “very few things that the First Amendment actually allows the government to prohibit‚ and that’s the way it should stay‚” he continued. The China expert pointed to instances where social media companies censored that turned out to be accurate — such as the notion that the COVID-19 virus had originated from a lab in Wuhan‚ China and the Hunter Biden laptop bombshell story — as evidence illustrating the underlying truth that “nobody gets to determine what is a falsehood‚” especially the federal government. Conservatives are under attack. Contact your representatives and demand that the State Department be held to account to adhere to the U.S. Constitution and that Big Tech mirror the First Amendment while providing transparency‚ clarity on so-called hate speech and equal footing for conservatives. Cat Tail Language: Vet-Approved Guide &; Signs

Cats are endlessly fascinating‚ and if you love cats‚ it’s so much fun to learn about them. They tell us so much about how they are feeling at any particular moment through their body language‚ and one of the most expressive parts of a cat is their tail. If you want to learn everything about what your cat’s tail is trying to tell you‚ we have the details that you’re looking for! The 9 Cat Tail Language Signs 1. Tail Held High When a cat walks around with their tail held straight up in the air‚ they are generally confident and friendly. You should be able to approach this cat and play with and pet them. It’s also a friendly greeting between cats. Image Credit: 11A Fotografie‚ Shutterstock 2. Question Mark When the tail is held straight up in the hair but curved at the end like a question mark‚ the cat is happy and quite friendly. This is an invitation for petting or starting a play session. 3. Down and Low When a cat is holding their tail straight down below the level of their back‚ they are feeling agitated or frightened. The lower the tail‚ the more afraid they are. Alternatively‚ they might be experiencing pain. Image Credit: Stramp‚ Shutterstock 4. Puffed Up If you’re at all familiar with cats‚ you know that a cat with a puffed-up tail is frightened and feels threatened. Depending on how stressed they are‚ the cat will resemble a traditional Halloween cat with an arched back and puffy tail. This signals that you should keep back and give them space. 5. Whipping Back and Forth The cat is typically angry or annoyed‚ depending on how much the tail is being thrashed around. Sometimes‚ the tail will thump on the floor. It’s best to leave this cat alone and give them their space. Image Credit: linerpics‚ Shutterstock 6. Swishing Tail If the tail‚ particularly the tip‚ is gently swishing from side to side and is lowered‚ it usually indicates intense focus. This can be something that the cat is hunting‚ whether an actual mouse or a toy one. They might also be feeling uncertain about something and are trying to judge whether they should investigate or hide. 7. Quivering A quivering tail can mean the cat is quite happy and excited to see you. But if they quiver their tail while it’s held straight up and they are backed up against a surface‚ this is the position for urine marking. Not all cats will spray‚ but they will go through the motions instinctively. Image Credit: Elisa Putti‚ Shutterstock 8. Curled Tightly Around Their Body If your cat is lying down or sitting with their tail curled tightly around their body or feet‚ this may indicate that they are not feeling well‚ are in pain or frightened‚ or feel defensive. If this type of position goes on for more than a day‚ you should see your vet to rule out illness or pain. 9. Wrapped Around Your Legs Think of this as a hug from your cat. If two cats wrap around each other and entwine their tails‚ this is an affectionate‚ positive interaction. It’s More Than the Tail To get a much better read on how your cat is feeling‚ you must look at more than just what their tail is doing. Their eyes‚ ears‚ body‚ and even whiskers work together with the tail to send a message. Happy and Relaxed Tail: This cat has a tail held straight up and with a curve at the end. It can also be quite still if they are lying or sitting down‚ perhaps loosely wrapped around their body. Ears: The ears are in a normal position without much movement. Eyes: They have normal pupil size‚ and the eyes might be closed part-way without looking terribly watchful or on alert. Body: While lying down‚ they might lie on their side with some of their belly showing. A cat that rolls onto their back around you is showing a great deal of trust. Image Credit: Inge Wallumrød‚ Pexels Playful Tail: The tail might be held lower with a twitching or swishing tip. Ears: The ears will point forward‚ and the cat will essentially look more alert. Eyes: The cat is focused on whatever they are playing with. The pupils will dilate as they watch with excitement and typically fully dilate just before the pounce! Body: There’s a great deal of crouching‚ sometimes with the rear end higher than the front. Cats tend to wiggle just before they pounce. Scared or Aggressive Tail: The tail can be held up and rigid‚ curled tightly around the body‚ or puffed up in an arch. Ears: The ears are quite active‚ and you’ll notice more swiveling and rapid movements. They might also flatten their ears against their head or draw their ears down and point them sideways. Eyes: The pupils will be fully dilated and look alert. Body: The body might be arched and the fur puffed up‚ or they might be in a crouched position. They tend to go fairly still and use their eyes to keep an eye on the situation. More Actions Cats have even more ways to communicate than what we have listed here so far: Kneading: When your cat is relaxed and happy‚ they knead their paws on a surface like your lap or cat bed. This act is also fondly known as making biscuits. Kittens knead their mother while nursing‚ which helps the milk flow‚ so they associate feeling contentment as kittens with feeling contentment as adults. Rubbing: When cats rub against surfaces‚ including you‚ they are marking their territory. But when they rub against you‚ it is also a sign of affection. Vocalizing: You may have heard the wives tale that cats‚ particularly feral cats‚ don’t meow at one another. But they meow at us because they are looking for attention. They also purr when relaxed and happy‚ and yowling might mean they are angry or in pain. Hissing is a clear “back off” signal. Image Credit: Hepper.com Conclusion Cats are quite expressive animals. The nuances might be tricky at times to decipher‚ but when you take a cat’s tail into account‚ it tells us so much about how the cat is feeling. That said‚ it’s also essential to consider the cat’s entire body language. We can easily misinterpret how a cat feels when we focus only on the tail. So‚ use this article‚ and make a point of becoming familiar with your cat’s tail and body language. It will help you understand your cat better and improve your bond. 10 Wheaten Terrier Pros &; Cons You Should Know

Click to Skip Ahead Pros Cons Health Conditions When you’re considering adding a dog to your family‚ researching the breeds that you are most interested in is vital! How else will you know if your new dog will be the best fit for your household? If the Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier is high on your list‚ you’ve come to the right place! Here‚ we through the Wheaten’s good points and not-so-good points‚ which should give you a clearer picture of whether this breed is right for you. Pros 1. Loving and Loyal The Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier is famous for being a devoted and loving dog with their family. They form strong bonds with their owners and will enjoy nice cuddling time at the end of the day. 2. Low Shedding Wheatens have gorgeous coats of silky‚ wavy‚ and soft fur. They are only single-coated‚ which means while they do shed‚ they don’t shed as much as a double-coated breed. There’s no such thing as a dog that is 100% hypoallergenic. However‚ the Wheaten is a good option for allergy sufferers who are prepared to do regular grooming and cleaning. Image Credit: Dora Zett‚ Shutterstock 3. Great With Children Wheatens with the right training and socialization are great with kids. They enjoy playing and cuddling with them. That said‚ it’s important to note that small children are not recommended around a Wheaten. They might handle the clumsiness of toddlers‚ but some terriers might be reactive if their ears are pulled or paws are stepped on. This is where training is essential‚ along with constant supervision when your child is in the same room as the dog. 4. Friendly and Cheerful Wheatens are known as exceptionally happy and friendly dogs. If you’re looking for a high-energy dog‚ the Wheaten Terrier is just that! They are exuberant‚ and it’s that sweet yet extroverted energy that Wheaten owners love best. 5. Great Watchdogs The Wheaten is deeply devoted to their owner‚ which also leads to protectiveness. Anyone they don’t know who approaches their territory will definitely get barked at. But once they meet the stranger‚ they will quite joyously welcome them with Wheaten Terrier enthusiasm. They aren’t typically an aggressive breed. Image Credit: furry_portraits‚ Pixabay Cons 6. Strong Prey Drive All terriers tend to have a strong prey drive‚ and the Wheaten is no exception. If they are raised from puppyhood to maturity‚ they will get along well with other pets‚ but you’ll probably never be able to walk them off-leash. A small animal suddenly running by will be too much of an enticement for the Wheaten‚ so training for reliable recall is vital! 7. Stubborn Training will be a challenge because like all terriers‚ the Wheaten is quite independent-minded and stubborn. They can also be bossy and strong-willed‚ so consistent and persistent training is imperative. They are quite intelligent‚ so training sessions must be interesting and only use positive reinforcement. 8. High-Maintenance Coat The Wheaten has a gorgeous coat‚ but it’s a high-maintenance coat. All that soft fur mats easily‚ so they must be brushed every day and bathed about once a month. Additionally‚ their coat grows quickly‚ so it must be trimmed every 4 to 6 weeks. This will either take a gouge out of your budget or your time if you opt to groom your Wheaten yourself. Image Credit: Audrius Vizbaras‚ Pixabay 9. High Exercise Needs The Wheaten is a high-energy dog that needs at least 1 hour of moderate to high-intensity exercise daily. It is better to aim for closer to 2 hours if possible‚ preferably spent with you. You can take them hiking or jogging and play active games like fetch. Without proper exercise‚ Wheatens can become quite naughty and destructive. 10. Low Tolerance to Hot Weather The Wheaten tends to overheat quite easily in hot weather‚ so you’ll need to minimize their outdoor exposure during excessively hot days. This won’t apply to you if you live in a location with moderate weather. However‚ for anyone living in an area with a great deal of heat‚ you might need to find a dog that can handle the weather better. Image Credit: Joseph Hendrickson‚ Shutterstock It’s All Subjective There are pros and cons for all dogs‚ but remember that it’s all subjective. Some people will find dealing with a stubborn terrier to be a negative point‚ while others love the challenge. Likewise‚ with things like exercise‚ some people prefer a high-energy dog so they have a running partner‚ while others prefer a leisurely stroll with a calm breed. Health Conditions of the Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier You now know a fair bit about the Wheaten’s temperament and some of what goes into the care of this breed. Let’s cover a few common potential health conditions to give you a full picture of the Wheaten. Retinal dysplasia: This is also known as progressive retinal atrophy‚ which is a disorder that can result in the dog losing their vision entirely. Hip dysplasia: Hip dysplasia can affect almost any dog‚ but large dogs are more likely to suffer from it. The hip joint loosens and causes dysfunction and pain. Renal dysplasia: Renal dysplasia occurs in puppies born with abnormal kidneys‚ and unfortunately‚ there’s no treatment. Some dogs with mild cases have good prognoses with supportive treatment‚ which is medication and diet. Addison’s disease: Addison’s disease results when the adrenal glands don’t produce the right levels of corticosteroid hormones. If caught early‚ the prognosis is good. Protein-losing nephropathy: Protein-losing nephropathy is a specific kidney problem that leads to protein and blood serum leaking into the urine. Protein-losing enteropathy: Protein-losing enteropathy is when there’s a loss of proteins from the bloodstream that enter the gastrointestinal tract. Conclusion Soft-Coated Wheaten Terriers are fantastic dogs that will make the right owner happy. If you love the outdoors and doing a bunch of activities with a dog‚ the Wheaten is a definite candidate. If you would also love a companion that won’t always listen to you and can present a challenge on a daily basis but will also love you unconditionally‚ the Wheaten might be your dog! A George Floyd scholarship made available only to black students is in violation of the Civil Rights Act‚ according to a federal complaint.North Central University in Minneapolis‚ Minnesota‚ established the scholarship in 2020 and claims to "impact the learning environment in a positive manner" by simply increasing the number of black students through the program. The scholarship page also remarked that the act of "diversifying" its learning environment is key to becoming a university that "looks and acts like Heaven."Under the criteria section‚ the school noted that applicants must be "a student who is Black or African American‚ that is‚ a person having origins in any of the black racial groups of Africa."Cornell Law professor William Jacobson wrote in his complaint to the United States Department of Education that the scholarship "engages invidious discrimination on the basis of race‚ color and national origin."The professor's complaint was directed at the Office for Civil Rights in Chicago‚ and alleged that the scholarship violates Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964‚ which prohibits schools from discriminating based on race."Students who identify as white‚ Hispanic or Asian — are automatically ineligible for the scholarship‚" he wrote. Title VI "prohibits intentional discrimination on the basis of race‚ color or national origin in any 'program or activity' that receives federal financial assistance‚" the complaint continued.Jacobson told the College Fix that the school's requirements were "openly racially discriminatory.""Regardless of the purpose of the racial discrimination‚ it is wrong and unlawful‚" he went on. "NCU needs to come up with a remedial plan to compensate students shut out of the George Floyd Scholarship due to discrimination."Jacobson cited a Supreme Court decision from 2023 that discriminating based on race for college admissions is illegal. The ruling in Students for Fair Admissions Inc. v. President and Fellows of Harvard College was a major change in how affirmative action can applied in the country."After the Supreme Court’s decision ... it is clear that discriminating on the basis of race to achieve diversity is not lawful." "As Chief Justice Roberts wrote in the majority opinion‚ ‘Eliminating racial discrimination means eliminating all of it‚'" the professor wrote.Jacobson also cited Justice Neil Gorsuch in his complaint‚ who said that it didn't matter if a school's discrimination against a member of a protected class was done so with the intention to promote equality at the group level."NCU knows better than to run educational scholarships that exclude students based on race‚" Jacobson concluded. "NCU’s nondiscrimination policies absolutely forbid racial discrimination. Why isn’t NCU living up to its own rules?"Like Blaze News? Jay Shetty is a fraud — but what took so long to say so?

Shakespeare’s suggestion that “all the world's a stage” reminds us all that life is little more than one big performance. As another saying goes‚ there are no small parts‚ only small actors. Which is not to say a bit player shouldn’t seize the spotlight when the opportunity arises.Want the truth about the latest celebrity guru? Ask his haters online.Take America’s go-to guru Jay Shetty. He’s built a hugely successful career on the strength of his charm‚ a dubious backstory‚ and little else. He’s even scored a sit-down with President Biden. For those who have somehow missed the countless rehashes of Shetty’s path to awakening‚ here’s the TL;DR version: Indian kid in London goes to business school‚ hears a monk speak‚ then chucks it all to live in a Hindu ashram. Three years later he emerges‚ frightened and confused by our modern world of striving and commerce‚ with a new mission: share his hard-won wisdom with everybody he can.Like many a guru before him‚ Shetty quickly got over any misgivings he may have had about monetizing enlightenment‚ turning a few viral‚ inspirational videos into a business empire encompassing books‚ a podcast‚ public speaking‚ corporate consulting‚ and life coaching.Celebs love him. Shetty took charge of Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck's wedding ceremony in Savannah‚ Georgia‚ back in 2022. Rumor has it that Lopez was deeply captivated by Shetty and just had to have the esteemed "Hindu monk" officiate their special day.Assigned to profile Shetty for Esquire‚ writer John McDermott seemed perfectly positioned to add another puff piece to the growing Shetty hagiography. But then he witnessed the self-help swami in action. As McDermott’s skepticism grew‚ so did the magazine’s reluctance to give him a forum.McDermott then approached the Hollywood Reporter. They too balked at publicly criticizing Tinseltown’s favorite holy man‚ mumbling something about a “conflict of interest.”So‚ McDermott took his extensive research to the Guardian‚ which attracted the ire of Shetty’s legal team by publishing McDermott’s “Uncovering the higher truth of Jay Shetty” late last month.Whatever the substance of the “legal complaint” referenced in the article’s recently added disclaimer‚ the paper has not detracted any of McDermott’s allegations. They paint a picture of a media-savvy‚ fame-hungry influencer not above fabricating his background and passing off other people’s content as his own.McDermott also exposes Shetty’s ties to Iskcon (more commonly known as the Hare Krishna movement)‚ an organization with an unsavory history of cult-like behavior‚ including allegations of sexual abuse. According to McDermott’s piece‚ as a Hare Krishna “superstar‚” Shetty was able to recruit a team of young members to disseminate his content for free.Shetty also runs the “Jay Shetty Certification School‚” which sells expensive life-coaching courses with a suspicious resemblance to a multilevel-marketing scheme. It’s no surprise that Shetty’s managed to dupe the usual gullible celebrities like Jada Pinkett-Smith‚ Dax Shepard‚ and Ellen DeGeneres. That he’s managed to get a free pass for so long from the likes of the WSJ Magazine‚ the New York Times‚ and the Times of London is a bit more concerning. Maybe the state of journalism is worse than we thought.Kudos to McDermott and the Guardian for exposing Shetty‚ but one has to wonder why it took so long. The extensive plagiarism claims against Shetty first surfaced in a video by influencer Nicole Arbour titled “Jay Shetty Is Full of S**T!” (which McDermott cites) way back in 2019.The video was enough to get Shetty to take down more than 100 posts and to start attributing the material he swipes. But it didn’t make much of a splash in the mainstream media. It’s yet another lesson that in many cases‚ we’re better off doing our own research‚ if only to supplement the official narrative established publications push out. Fortunately‚ there’s a growing network of online citizen journalists to help fill in the gaps. The Instagram account BallerBusters has been exposing the likes of Shetty since 2019. A person behind the mysterious account told Align that Shetty is:an iconic example of the modern day social media grifter who appears to be selling you a lifestyle with hope‚ hype‚ and sensationalism. He‚ and others like him‚ prey on the internet’s willingness to believe in messaging despite what would otherwise be clear and obvious red flags. He has no credibility‚ verifiable experience (especially not as a monk)‚ and rose to fame based on a character he was playing — not who he actually was. ... Listening to Jay Shetty’s life advice is tantamount to taking medical advice from Mother Teresa.Haters? Most certainly. But when it comes to the grifters‚ fakes‚ and snake-oil salesmen vying for our money and attention in 2024‚ we could use a little more hate.

'Diplomatic blackmail': Mexico's president gives harrowing answer when asked about US border crisis

While the Biden administration has failed to find a solution to the crisis at the southern border‚ Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has offered his. That solution is that the United States commit $20 billion in aid to poor countries in Latin America and the Caribbean‚ lift sanctions on Venezuela and the Cuban embargo‚ and legalize millions of law-abiding Mexicans living in the U.S. When asked by Sharyn Alfonsi on “60 Minutes” what would happen if the U.S. didn’t comply with his demands‚ he gave a terrifying answer. “The flow of migrants will continue‚” he answered‚ before being asked if he thought what he was doing was “diplomatic blackmail.” “I’m speaking frankly. We have to say things as they are‚ and I always say what I feel. I always say what I think‚” he answered. Dave Rubin isn’t amused. “It is diplomatic blackmail. The president of the country that’s to our south‚ that basically has the open border‚ is basically like give us $20 billion‚” Rubin says. The Mexican president also blamed the fentanyl crisis in America not on the open border but on the U.S. for producing it. He then blamed American culture for the widespread drug problem. “You know why we don’t have the drug consumption that you have in the United States? We have customs‚ traditions‚ and we don’t have the problem of the disintegration of the family‚” the president said. Disney agrees to settle lawsuit against DeSantis over revoked self-governing special tax district

The Walt Disney Co. reached a settlement agreement on Wednesday with Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis and his Central Florida Tourism Oversight District over the company's revoked self-governing special tax district‚ the New York Post reported. In April‚ Disney lodged a complaint against the governor for revoking the theme park's company-selected board and special tax district‚ the Reedy Creek Improvement District. Disney governed the district for decades. In 2022‚ the dismantled RCID board was taken over by DeSantis' new five-member oversight panel‚ the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District.Disney accused the governor and several Florida officials of launching a "relentless campaign to weaponize government power" against the company. The lawsuit noted that DeSantis previously expressed a desire to "void" Disney's development agreement with the state‚ examine taxes on the theme park's hotels‚ and "tolls on the roads."Disney's court filings read‚ "Today's action is the latest strike: At the Governor's bidding‚ the State's oversight board has purported to 'void' publicly noticed and duly agreed development contracts‚ which had laid the foundation for billions of Disney's investment dollars and thousands of jobs."The company claimed that the governor's actions ultimately "jeopardize[d]" Disney's "economic future in the region‚" while also "violat[ing] its constitutional rights."An investigation conducted by the CFTOD found evidence that the former RCID board used millions of taxpayer dollars to purchase resort passes‚ merchandise‚ and other perks from Disney."For decades‚ the former Disney-run RCID used taxpayer funds to provide season passes and amusement experiences to its employees and their family members‚ cover the cost of discounts on hotels‚ merchandise‚ food‚ and beverages‚ and give its own board members VIP Main Entrance passes‚" the CFTOD claimed. "In 2022 alone‚ it cost taxpayers over $2.5 million."On Wednesday‚ Disney dropped the lawsuit against DeSantis‚ agreeing to concede its self-governing powers over the theme park's district and abandoning a separate lawsuit regarding access to public records. Instead‚ the two parties have decided to work together to form a new development agreement for the theme park.Walt Disney World President Jeff Vahle stated‚ "This agreement opens a new chapter of constructive engagement with the new leadership of the district‚" the Post reported.DeSantis declared that his administration was "vindicated" by Disney's settlement."A year ago people were trying to act like all these legal maneuvers were all going to succeed‚ and the reality is here we are a year later‚ not one of them has succeeded‚" he said. "Every action that we've taken has been upheld in full‚ and the state is better off for it."As part of the settlement‚ DeSantis appointed board members to the CFTOD who are more "sympathetic" to Disney‚ the Post noted. Earlier this week‚ the governor's office reported that Craig Mateer‚ the founder of CCM Capital Group‚ was appointed to the board. Like Blaze News?
