President Joe Biden said Wednesday night that he reveres the presidency, “but I love my country more.” “It’s been the honor of my life to serve as your president, but in defense of democracy, which is at stake, I think it’s more important than any title,” Biden said in a televised address from the Oval Office. To “save democracy,” Biden said, he is “passing the torch.” “My fellow Americans, it’s been the privilege of my life to serve this country over 50 years,” said Biden, who was first elected to the Senate in 1972 and then served as Barack Obama’s vice president from 2009 to 2017.  Biden promoted his record in the speech and said he would push “Supreme Court reform” during the remaining six months of his presidency.  “I’m going to call for Supreme Court reform because this is critical to our democracy,” the president said, without specifying what he meant. Reports last week said Biden would push term limits for Supreme Court justices. He has previously resisted efforts in his party to “pack” the high court by adding justices to the current nine to achieve favorable outcomes for liberals.  Biden first announced in a letter to the public Sunday that he was dropping his re-election bid before the Democratic National Convention, which convenes Aug. 19. He subsequently announced he was supporting Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic presidential nominee.  Critics have pointed out that Harris dropped out of the 2020 Democratic primaries before a single state voted, so low was she in the polls. Biden picked her as his running mate even though she essentially called him a racist during a debate. He sought to reassure the public Wednesday night that he plans to finish his term.  “Over the next six months, I’ll be focused on doing my job as president,” Biden said during the prime-time Oval Office address. “That means I’ll continue lowering costs for hardworking families, grow our economy. I’ll keep defending our personal freedoms and our civil rights, from the right to vote to the right to choose.” This last point was a reference to abortion on demand, which the Supreme Court ended with its Dobbs ruling overturning Roe v. Wade. Democrats could face a predicament in replacing Biden on the ballot in several states because a patchwork of state laws determines what a political party must do to substitute someone else as its presidential nominee.  Battleground states such as Georgia and Nevada have procedures under which a presidential candidate may withdraw from the ballot. Wisconsin allows it to occur only in case of death.  The Biden-Harris campaign began to unravel after the president’s poor debate performance against his opponent, former President  Donald Trump, whom he defeated in 2020. Gradually, more Democrats became public in calling for Biden to drop out because of his declining mental faculties.  Biden was initially defiant and vowed to remain in the race.  Earlier this year, special counsel Robert Hur issued a report on Biden’s possession of classified documents from his years as vice president and senator, characterizing him as “elderly” and “struggling” with memory loss.  It made no sense to bring the case to a jury, Hur concluded. “The great thing about America is here, kings and dictators do not rule, the people do,” Biden told Americans. Tuesday night’s episode of MSNBC’s The ReidOut was a doozy but, perhaps, really not that out of the ordinary for the show’s deranged host, Joy Reid. During the final segment, she invited The Weekend host Michael Steele and activist Roland Martin to rhetorically lick Vice President Kamala Harris’ boots and, naturally, insult the white people who dared to say anything in opposition to the presumptive Democratic nominee. Reid began by triumphantly introducing Monday night’s rally of black men “with tens of thousands joining a video call to raise money in support for Harris' presidential bid.” She added that, “it comes as Republicans claim to be making an appeal to black men, while unleashing a flood of racism and sexism against this historic candidate, saying she's a DEI vice president and worse.”     Before turning to her guests, Reid played clips of various Republicans commenting on Harris’ becoming the default presidential candidate after President Joe Biden dropped his reelection campaign. This drew the ire of all three who wasted no time in pointing out the positions other Republicans had apparently inherited, whining that the party “makes it personal…to drive that negative narrative to that hard edge of the base.”  Unsurprisingly, that didn’t stop the miserable group from doing the exact same thing, even calling Senator J.D. Vance (R-OH) the “house pet of Peter Thiel.” Reid and Steele further bashed Vance’s work before becoming a senator, claiming he “earn[ed]” it by writing his book Hillbilly Elegy, which Reid called “The dissing his own people” for the second time during the episode. Martin launched into his own unhinged rant of similar structure, yelling that those (white) Republicans “can go to hell” before adding, “white women, y’all need to be calling them out because they call y’all DEI hires. The Secret Service woman who was trying to protect Trump.”  It’s ironic that MSNBC wanted to suggest Trump was saved that day. After all, they aggressively pushed the debunked conspiracy theory the Trump was not actually shot. Later on, Reid highlighted an X post from Erick Erickson that argued: “Her experience is the American dream and melting pot, but not really the black experience, particularly that in southern swing states like Georgia and North Carolina.” The host couldn’t resist clapping back at Erickson, stating, “I doubt he knows any black people because this woman literally went to Howard University and is in a black sorority.”  For race-obsessed Reid, going to a Historically black College and University (HBCU) and joining a black sorority was clearly good enough. But she completely missed Erickson’s point, specifically that Harris had a privileged upbringing markedly different from that of black women growing up in the southern swing states.  Reid’s guests had more to say on the matter, engaging in a ridiculous back-and-forth on the origins of Jamaicans and cackling about the “king of mayonnaise,” “unseasoned chicken” Erickson (Click “expand”): STEELE: But, does Erick Erickson–but does Erick Erickson know the origin story of Jamaicans?  REID: No, I don’t think he does.  STEELE: Do you know where Jamaicans are from?  REID: No. STEELE: Do you know the origin story?  REID: No. STEELE: It’s called Africa. As the 2024 election looms closer and the president is nowhere to be found, Democrats are pulling out all the stops to get Gen Z voters on board with Vice President Kamala Harris. And how do you get Gen Z voters on board? Unfortunately, you create memes. The latest meme circulating online is called “Kamala is a brat,” and it’s clearly been created in an attempt to appeal to the youth vote. “What does that mean?” Jill Savage of “Blaze News Tonight” asks, adding, “I don’t know. We had to look it up.” In Gen Z slang, a brat is defined as “an icon, an embrace of authenticity and confidence in oneself.” The term was inspired by Charli XCX’s album “Brat,” which led to a TikTok trend of having a “brat summer.” Charli XCX then announced it to the world in a post on X, writing, “kamala IS brat.”CNN even took time out of its news cycle to praise what Savage calls “Kamala’s newfound bratiness.” “You’re just that girl who is a little messy, and likes to party, and maybe says dumb things sometimes,” one CNN host reads from Charli XCX, attempting to understand it. The Harris campaign apparently embraced the idea, changing the banner image on Kamala’s HQ X page to a copy of the “Brat” album that instead says “kamala hq.” “Is this going to work?” Savage asks documentarian and star of the film “Uncle Tom” Chad Jackson. “Strangely enough, it might, actually,” Jackson says. “Unfortunately, this is where we are in American politics, and this kind of push to enfranchise just everybody.” “We’ve seen this kind of thing happen before, time and again, especially as it relates to Democrats and the left. What they do is they try to appeal and emotionalize two groups in particular: young folks and black folks. To the extent that you can emotionalize those two subsets, you will then have those who feel very passionate about this candidate,” he adds.
