Not sure who should be more insulted here… Blake Shelton has some absolute classics in his catalogs from early in his career. Of course he’s still putting out music, just releasing his latest album For Recreational Use Only earlier this month, but it just doesn’t hit the same as songs like “Austin” and “Ole Red,” even his cover of Conway Twitty’s “Goodbye Time” or the underrated “Playboys Of The Southwestern World.” And I think the difference is that he no longer has his glorious mullet. When he first burst onto the scene, Blake had one of the all-time great mullets in country music. I mean, this thing would give Billy Ray Cyrus a run for the title of best mullet in country music history. “@Danway04: been a fan since the mullet days. Unfortunately it’s been quite a while since we’ve seen the former coach of The Voice sporting his glorious locks. But it’s still a frequent topic of conversation – and Blake recently recalled a time when his hairstyle caused fans to mistake him for a female country star. Blake told the story during a recent appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show from CMA Fest (which was called Fan Fair at the time) back in the days when he had his mullet, around 2001 or 2002: “They had this parking lot, because CMA Fest used to be called Fan Fair way back in the day, and fans figured out where artists would park their cars and instead of waiting in line to get autographs they could just stand against this fence and yell for artists to sign their stuff. And one day I was leaving… and as I was walking out I kept hearing people scream for Terri Clark. I was like, ‘Oh, Terri Clark’s out here.’ I started looking around and I saw the fans like, ‘Oh God.’ They thought I was Terri Clark.” Awkward… As Blake said, I’m not sure who should be more offended, him or Terri Clark. But apparently Terri got a kick out of the story, sharing the clip on her own social media and confirming that she was “100% more offended than Blake Shelton should be.” Of course it’s hard to deny the resemblance when you see the two side by side (although I don’t recall Terri ever having curly hair). @terriclark I am 100% more offended than @Blake Shelton should be This story never gets old. Of course there are still some opportunities, and the “Fan Fair” portion of CMA Fest has since moved to Music City Center. But I wish one year they would just bring back the whole experience.
