Speak No Evil, a remake of the 2022 Danish original, stars McAvoy as Paddy, a doctor (suuuuure) who invites a delightful and clearly unsuspecting family to visit his country home. His wife (Aisling Franciosi) is very young, his kid doesn’t (can’t) talk, and the family’s idea of social graces is, shall we say, lacking. Being no fool, Louise (Mackenzie Davis), her husband Ben (Scoot McNairy), and their daughter Agnes (Alix West Lefler) decide to split, which goes about as well as you might imagine—and then things get much, much worse. It’s not exactly clear why Paddy is so into tormenting his guests, though at one point in the trailer McAvoy says, “I’ve always wanted a family like yours.” Want could imply a lot of things in that sentence. Speak No Evil is directed by James Watkins (The Woman in Black), who also wrote the screenplay (based on the original by Christian Tafdrup and Mads Tafdrup). The movie, which stars Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, Edgar Ramírez, Ariana Greenblatt, Florian Munteanu, Gina Gershon, and Jamie Lee Curtis, centers on a motley crew looking to make a big score on the worst planet ever. This latest trailer also includes an explosive bunny, a whole lot of monster pee, and a red-headed Blanchett clearly fed up with it all. The film comes from Gearbox Studios / 2K, which created and published the video game, as well as producers Ari Arad, Avi Arad, and Erik Feig. It’s distributed by Lionsgate. Here’s the film’s official synopsis: Lilith (Blanchett), an infamous bounty hunter with a mysterious past, reluctantly returns to her home, Pandora, the most chaotic planet in the galaxy. Her mission is to find the missing daughter of Atlas (Ramírez), the universe’s most powerful S.O.B. Lilith forms an unexpected alliance with a ragtag team of misfits – Roland (Hart), a seasoned mercenary on a mission; Tiny Tina (Greenblatt), a feral pre-teen demolitionist; Krieg (Munteanu), Tina’s musclebound protector; Tannis (Curtis), the oddball scientist who’s seen it all; and Claptrap (Black), a wiseass robot. DAILY CALLER NEWS FOUNDATION—Student test scores are continuing to fall four years after schools moved online due to the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a study released Tuesday by testing company Northwest Evaluation Association. The study found that gaps in academic performance between today’s students and their pre-pandemic counterparts are widening, despite the record $190 billion in federal aid distributed to schools since the pandemic began. The findings—which were divulged from an analysis of test results from the 2023-24 school year for approximately 7.7 million students between the third and eighth grades—also come two years after experts had claimed a recovery in education was underway.  “At the end of 2021-22, we optimistically concluded that the worst was behind us and that recovery had begun,” wrote the study’s authors, Karyn Lewis and Megan Kuhfeld. “Unfortunately, data from the past two school years no longer supports this conclusion.” The Northwest Evaluation Association’s analysis found that the gap with pre-COVID-19 results for sixth graders in math and English grew by 40% and 31%, respectively, between the fall of 2023 and the spring of 2024. The study also found that the average eighth grader today requires approximately nine months of additional schooling to reach pre-COVID-19 levels in the two subjects. A similar—albeit less extreme—trend was found for younger students, with third graders requiring 1.3 additional months of schooling to catch up in math and 2.2 more months to catch up in reading. Some researchers believe the continued drop off in academic performance is a result of chronic absenteeism as the mean number of students missing 10% or more of school days has risen from 15% in the 2017-18 school year to 28% in the 2021-22 school year, according to a study from the American Enterprise Institute. The AEI study also found that “using the most recent data for the 2022–23 school year … even after the pandemic subsided drastically, the elevated rates of chronic absenteeism fell very little.” Poor academic performance has persisted despite the $122 billion distributed to U.S. public schools in 2021 alone, which schools must spend by September, according to K-12 education news outlet Education Week. “We’re a long way from pre-pandemic levels of student achievement,” Dan Goldhaber, an education researcher at the American Institutes for Research and the University of Washington, told The Washington Post. Hundreds of premade anti-Israel signs were waiting near the U.S. Capitol as demonstrators prepared Wednesday to protest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s latest visit to America. Netanyahu was scheduled to address a joint session of Congress at 2 p.m. EDT regarding U.S. efforts to help settle the 9-month-old Israel-Hamas war.  Israel has sought to eradicate Hamas since Oct. 7, when the U.S.-designated terrorist organization invaded southern Israel, killing 1,200 and taking about 250 hostages.  Sponsored by the Party for Socialism and Liberation, some of the anti-Israel signs at the Capitol read: “Wanted by the Whole World: War Criminal Benjamin Netanyahu for Crimes Against Humanity.”  The Party for Socialism and Liberation’s website declares that members are united in their “belief that capitalism … is the source of the main problems confronting humanity today.”  Hundreds of premade signs, some saying “WANTED BY THE WHOLE WORLD WAR CRIMINAL BENJAMIN NETANYAHU,” sponsored by the Party for Socialism and Liberation not far from the Capitol ahead of today’s pro-Palestine protest pic.twitter.com/e8OfcKVuew— The Daily Signal (@DailySignal) July 24, 2024 The ANSWER Coalition, the organization whose website is listed on some of the anti-Israel signs, went public three days after the 9/11 terror attacks in America in opposition to the U.S. invading Afghanistan or Iraq. Since 2002, the group says, it has demonstrated “for social justice at home and in opposition to war and occupation abroad.”    Shut it Down for Palestine, another group protesting at the Capitol, advises participants to “wear kuffiyehs” and “black armbands,” and to “picket Israeli embassies and consulates.”  It also advises picketing “companies that profit from Israel’s occupation of Palestine,” a disputed characterization of the Hamas-governed Gaza Strip, and specifies Boeing and Raytheon among many others.  According to a Heritage Foundation report released last month, the structure of organizations facilitating the anti-Israel protests is essentially the same as those that supported the Black Lives Matter-sponsored protests and riots in 2020. Mike Gonzalez, a Heritage policy expert in national security who co-authored the report with intern Mary Mobley, wrote that antisemitic, anti-Israel protesters may alter the U.S. in “profound” and possibly permanent ways, just as BLM did, through “this revolutionary ecosystem.” More and more enemies of the U.S., including China, Cuba, and Venezuela, are “enmeshed in this protesting infrastructure,” Gonzalez and Mobley noted. The nitpickers, who style themselves as fact-checkers at PolitiFact and USA Today, have rushed to Vice President Kamala Harris’s defense by slapping “false” labels on those who seek to label her as the Biden Administration’s “border czar” in order to claim that her failure to stem illegal immigration proves she is unqualified to be president. On Wednesday, PolitiFact’s Maria Ramirez Uribe gave the Republican National Committee a “mostly-false” rating. For Uribe, calling Harris the border czar is wrong because “Biden didn’t put Harris in charge of overseeing border security.” Rather, he “said Harris would lead U.S. diplomatic efforts and work with officials in Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras to stem migration to the U.S.” Uribe also objected to the "czar" title because "Managing the border 'has always been' the Homeland Security secretary’s role, [Migration Policy Institute communications director Michelle] Mittelstadt said." Previously, USA Today’s Andre Byik claimed on Tuesday that it is “false” to say “Kamala Harris was ‘put in charge of the border.’” Byik wrote, “The post exaggerates the vice president's role in addressing migration at the southern border. Harris was never put in charge of the border or made 'border czar,' immigration experts said. President Joe Biden tasked Harris with leading the administration's diplomatic efforts addressing the ‘root causes’ of migration in El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras.” Both Uribe and Byik are trying too hard to be clever. Sure, Harris was never formally appointed border czar, but “czar” has also come to mean “someone in charge of something.” The media, including USA Today, called Mike Pence Donald Trump’s COVID czar despite Pence never formally being given the position and Trump rejecting the idea. Other media outlets even used the term for Harris at the time. Second, Uribe and Byik want to claim that Harris wasn’t in charge of the border, but the administration’s diplomatic push to address the border surge’s “root causes,” but that is like saying it is false to say a sports general manager is to blame for his team’s bad season because he’s not the coach or the players, he just selects them. By labeling Harris the “border czar,” conservatives and Republicans are just using the media’s Mike Pence standard, but thanks to PolitiFact and USA Today, such terms could lead to your Facebook post’s getting throttled.

Tucker Carlson’s two-hour interview with writer Jack Posobiec broached a number of hot topics, but there were a couple of segments that Dave Rubin found particularly important. That decades-long standard, however, was interrupted in 2016 when Donald Trump entered the picture. “Who would’ve thought this guy could come in and take over?” Posobiec asks, adding that Trump’s presidency was defined by the deep state “trying to get him out of office the entire time.” But try as they might to “assassinate [Trump’s] personality” via weaponizing lawfare and the mainstream media, there was something standing in the way of their ability to completely “control the narrative” — social media. “Through social media, suddenly people can connect and say, ‘Hey, have you noticed this thing? ... The media doesn’t seem to be talking about this ... I'm here; I can see it; this is actually happening in front of my eyes,’” said Posobiec, adding that videos and live streaming have created a sort of citizen journalism that has the power to expose the holes in mainstream media. For the “oligarchs” and “the machine,” the loss of their “soft power” (i.e., ability to shape the narrative) became a “massive problem,” which led them to resort to “force.” “You might, I don't know, raid somebody's home, and you might say that there's some documents there that they shouldn't have. Then handcuffs, then convictions,” said Posobiec. “But if that doesn’t work, the nuclear option of November 1963 is always on the table — hypothetically.” “What would be the nuclear option?” asks Dave. “I don't know, kill Trump, oust Biden?” In the second clip, Posobiec and Tucker expand on their previous discussion and explore what the elites are really afraid of.
