Daylight’s new $799 computer ditches blue light for a paper-like display

From the moment we wake up until we close our eyes to sleep, we are surrounded by screens. Even if your job doesn't necessitate staring at a monitor all day, studies show that we spend an average of over four hours on our phones every day. All that blue light can cause eyestrain and fatigue, but what if your primary device had a paper-like display without any blue light? That's what Daylight Computer is promising from its new DC-1. On Thursday, Daylight Computer officially unveiled its DC-1 Android tablet, which it describes as "a new kind of computer designed for deep focus and wellbeing." That is quite a lofty tagline, but Daylight claims that the DC-1 features the first full-speed paper-like display of any device on the market, theoretically making the device more capable for everyday work, play, and more than other E Ink tablets and readers currently available. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ovF3w8neDUw Daylight says that its brand new Live Paper display is like E Ink but runs at 60fps, which means you shouldn't get any of the ghosting you'd experience on a Kindle, Kobo, or reMarkable device. The display uses flicker-free dimming technology, has a matte finish and a textured surface, and uses an amber backlight at night to "protect your melatonin." The DC-1 runs a custom Android OS called Sol:OS, which is built to minimize distractions while getting you to your apps and content as quickly as possible. You also have access to any third-party app Android has to offer, from Kindle to Spotify to Microsoft 365. As for the specifications, the DC-1 features a 10.5-inch Live Paper display, 8GB of RAM, 128GB of internal storage (expandable via a microSD card slot), MediaTek Helio G99 processor, and an 8,000mAh battery. You'll charge the tablet via USB-C, and it can connect with Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.0, and even pogo pins. While the hardware itself is relatively minimal, there are customizable action buttons on one side, stereo speakers, and a microphone. Daylight has already sold out of the first two batches of Founder's Edition tablets at the time of writing, but you can secure your spot in the third batch for $729. When the DC-1 officially launches later this year, it will cost $799. A ‘Music Holy Grail’ Live Recording Of Little Richard And Jimi Hendrix From 1965 Is Up For Auction

Jimi Hendrix was a member of rock and roll pioneer Little Richard’s band, The Upsetters, in the ‘60s. He performed with the group at Boston’s Back Bay Theatre, formerly the Donnelly Theatre, in 1965. Recordings of Jimi’s guitar stylings were caught on tape and are being preserved in Little Walter DeVenne’s personal archives after the Boston radio personality engineered them using a Scotch 190 reel-to-reel tape at 7.5 ips. The decade-long tape will be sold off by  Boston-based RR Auction, which focuses on historic memorabilia of its kind. The company’s executive vice president, Bobby Livingston, commented that “finding a live recording with both Little Richard and Jimi Hendrix is akin to discovering a musical holy grail.” Little Richard and Jimi Hendrix perform in 1965 together – music holy grail unveiled Youtube video screenshot At the time of the performance in May 1965, Jimi had yet to become famous and was a 22-year-old who left The Isley Brothers to play with The Upsetters. Jimi would later become a sensation in the late ‘60s, however, the video portrayed his potential as he complemented Little Richard’s impressive vocal range with his guitar playing skills. RELATED: 53 Years Ago, Jimi Hendrix Gave His Final Haunting Interview: “We Have Time” Jimi did not last with Little Richard either due to disagreements on important and trivial issues such as costumes. Jimi recalls how Richard reprimanded him for wearing ruffled shirts as he was “the only one allowed to dress pretty.” The “Tutti Frutti” crooner alleged that Jimi was constantly tardy, hence his reason for firing him off the group. JIMI HENDRIX Little Richard greatly influenced Jimi Hendrix Regardless of their ensuing feud, Richard significantly influenced Jimi’s career, which was short-lived and lasted until his death in 1970. They met in Seattle when Jimi was only 12, and Richard was trying to become a preacher then. Their time together, although brief, was important to Jimi’s career as an upcoming musician, as he took a cue from experiencing Richard’s genius firsthand. Richard reportedly reacted to the memorable performance saying, “Don’t you ever play your f***ing guitar behind your head again, don’t you upstage me, I’m f***ing Little Richard.” Click for next Article The post A ‘Music Holy Grail’ Live Recording Of Little Richard And Jimi Hendrix From 1965 Is Up For Auction appeared first on DoYouRemember? - The Home of Nostalgia.
