Who Are The Most Underrated Country Music Artists Right Now? Fans Respond

We asked, you answered. When it comes to the state of country music right now, it feels as though we might be living through lightning in a bottle. While it’s nothing new, there has been cycles of really good and really bad country music over the years, right now just feels like a really special and unique time. For the most part, we have banished bro-country (yay!), we have artists veering back toward the more traditional roots of country music, and artists like Zach Top are getting nominated for CMA Awards, which is beyond promising for the future of the genre. But the real kicker is that independent acts, or at least ones without any kind of mainstream radio support have become household names and festival headliners. Artists like Tyler Childers, Cody Jinks and Sturgill Simpson are selling out massive venues, Muscadine Bloodline is touring with Post Malone, Charley Crockett and Billy Strings are HUGE, Koe Wetzel is certified rockstar, Whiskey Myers can pack a room with the best of them… it’s wild to see. Of course, we also have the opposite of that where artists are taking the word “country” and bending it into a hip hop and R&B-fueled subgenre dominated by Beyoncé, Shaboozey, and TikTok artists like the viral “Oil Money” singer, Graham Barham. But out of the list of artists who are making a positive impact on country music, boy, are we so lucky to be living in a world filled with their music. We have Turnpike Troubadours telling folks they are done with their second record since they reunited, Cross Canadian Ragweed is back together, Zach Top is dominating the classic country sound, and so is Texas-based artist Braxton Keith. And on the female side of the spectrum, we have powerhouses like Ella Langley and Taylor Hunnicutt, who embody what being a bad a** woman looks like. And we have heavenly, whimsical voices on the ears like Sierra Ferrell and Willow Avalon. There’s so many who have exploded and still so many left for the masses to discover. We asked the fine followers of our Instagram page, Twitter (X), and TikTok to share with us who they think some of the most underrated country artists are right now. Here are some of the answers you folks overwhelmingly commented on the posts. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Whiskey Riff (@whiskeyriff) “Charley Crockett” “Jake Worthington” – Ernest even agreed with this one, folks. “Brent Cobb” “Red Clay Strays” “Cole Goodwin” “Braxton Keith” “Muscadine Bloodline” “Laci Kay Booth” “Randall King”  “Stephen Wilson Jr.”  “Wade Forster” “Charles Wesley Godwin” “Benjamin Tod” “Hailey Whitters” “Drake White” “Larry Fleet” That’s a solid list of listening there, folks. A few of these artists have already promised new music for 2025, like CWG and Muscadine Bloodline, so there is no better time than now to tune into a few of these folks. Of course, we had to ask the opposing question as part of our timeline cleanse to get your opinions on who you think is overrated right now. It appears that the overwhelming majority named Beyonce, Morgan Wallen, and Zach Bryan on that list. Still, getting over who’s side to take on the Bri break-up drama? Or over the similar-sounding songwriting and low-quality production on some tracks? I can see both sides of this ,but there are times when you have to separate the art from the artist when personal drama creeps into their profession. However, this is a fun list to creep through while you’re here. Some of y’all have some hot takes. The Beatles cover that John Lennon loved

The Beatles cover that John Lennon loved

The Beatles were active for only 10 years but they wrote some of the most important and successful songs of all time during only one decade. A crucial part of their songwriting was certainly John Lennon, who formed with Paul McCartney, the greatest songwriting duo in history, that changed the course of music forever. Their songs were almost perfect but as expected, thousands of artists covered their songs and some of those versions were quite good. There is one in particular that Lennon liked a lot. The Beatles cover that John Lennon loved Curiously, John Lennon was part of the song he mentioned in an interview with Spin in 1975. It was Elton John's talke on "Lucky In the Sky With Diamonds", released as a single back in 1974. Lennon recorded guitar parts and backing vocals on Elton's version, however, he was credited in the single as "Dr. Winston O'Boogie". "I love it. I was thrilled he (Elton) was doing it. People are afraid of Beatle music. They are still afraid of my songs. Because they got that big image thing: You can’t do a Beatle number … You can’t touch a Lennon song; only Lennon can do it… It’s garbage! Anybody can do anything. A few people in the past have done Beatle songs." He continued: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5EOFnnBQjp8&pp=ygUoZWx0b24gam9obiBsdWN5IGluIHRoZSBza3kgd2l0aCBkaWFtb25kcw%3D%3D "But in general they feel you can’t touch them. And there are so many good singles that the Beatles wrote that were never released. Why don’t people do them? It’s good for me; it’s good for Paul. It’s good for all of us. And Elton would have had a No. 1 record without me; he didn’t need me. And anyway, I was only Dr. Winston O. Boogie on it … ’cause they weren’t sure; and we didn’t have time to get real permission...," John Lennon told Spin. Also in 1974, Elton John was part of the recording of Lennon's famous song “Whatever Gets You Thru The Night” from the album Walls and Bridges. He played the piano and organ in that song on one condition, that Lennon would later be part of his "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" version. So that's how, the Beatle ended up playing in Elton's single. His final performance was with Elton John https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HyNojfmTP0A&pp=ygUdam9obiBsZW5ub24gZmluYWwgZWx0b24gam9objQ%3D After they recorded the cover, Elton John made a deal with John. The Beatle would have to play the song live with him in concert if it became a number one hit single. Not long after the release, the single peaked at number one in the United States and Canada. On November 28, 1974, Lennon joined Elton on stage at his thanksgiving show at the Madison Square Garden and performed three songs. They played Lennon's "Whatever Gets You Thru the Night" and The Beatles' tracks: "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" and "I Saw Her Standing There". It was Lennon's final major concert since he would be murdered six years later, at the age of 40. Although he was one of the most influential songwriters of all time, Lennon once said that he envy the Elton John and Bernie Taupin partnership. Because Elton would received the lyrics and the create the music and Lennon had to usually do both things. “Usually. It’s better. I like that. The music is sort of easy. I sometimes envy Elton John. Bernie Taupin sends him a big stack of words, and he writes all the songs in five days. I could do that. But I am too egocentric to use other people’s words. That’s the problem. So it’s my own fault. I still like black music, disco music,” Lennon told Spin. The post The Beatles cover that John Lennon loved appeared first on Rock and Roll Garage.
