Dana White, Kid Rock, and thousands of others donated to the GoFundMe page set up for the shooting victims who were killed or injured during an assassination attempt of former President Donald Trump, pushing the total beyond $2 million in less than 24 hours. A fundraiser Trump sanctioned for his supporters who were killed or injured during a failed assassination attempt on Trump during a campaign rally on Saturday evening in Butler, Pennsylvania had an initial goal of $1 million, but doubled that amount by the middle of Sunday afternoon. All donations will be directed to these proud Americans as they grieve and recover. May God bless and unite our nation.” At the time of this publication, top donors to the account included rockstar Kid Rock, who donated $50,000. UFC president Dana White donated $50,000. Former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy donated another $30,000.  The tally also grew thanks to donations, both large and small, from more than twenty-six thousand people. Following the shooting, Kid Rock posted a video message to followers. “You f*** with Trump, you f*** with me,” the rocker — born Robert James Ritchie — said in a video online as he pointed at the camera, and made it clear he was angry after someone had shot at Trump. Officials have identified the deceased rally-goer as Corey Comperatore, a 50-year-old Pennsylvania native and firefighter. He is being hailed as a hero who shielded his daughters when the shooting began. Two other attendees were seriously injured, according to officials, while Trump and his team said the former president is “fine” after a bullet ripped through his ear. The Secret Service said its personnel “neutralized” the shooter. On Sunday, Trump published a post to Truth Social that said, “Our love goes out to the other victims and their families. We pray for the recovery of those who were wounded, and hold in our hearts the memory of the citizen who was so horribly killed.” In the same message, the former president emphasized, “it is more important than ever that we stand United, and show our True Character as Americans, remaining Strong and Determined, and not allowing Evil to Win.”

A prominent House Democrat’s staffer who posted to social media about the gunman needing “shooting lessons so you don’t miss next time” — after former President Donald Trump survived an assassination attempt — is out of the job. Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS), who served as chairman of the now-defunct January 6 Committee, confirmed on Sunday the ouster of the aide — field director Jacqueline Marsaw — as the congressman faced mounting calls to fire her over the comment. “I was made aware of a post made by a staff member and she is no longer in my employment,” Thompson said, according to Fox News. In the attack at Trump’s campaign rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday, the former president was shot in the ear, one bystander was killed, and two other attendees were seriously injured. The Secret Service said its personnel “neutralized” the shooter, who was seen on a rooftop approximately 150 yards away from the stage where Trump had been speaking. Afterwards, Marsaw posted to Facebook, “I don’t condone violence but please get you some shooting lessons so you don’t miss next time ooops that wasn’t me talking.” The post was deleted, but not before a screenshot was taken and shared to social media. I am grateful for law enforcement’s fast response to this incident,” he said. “I am glad the former President is safe, and my thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involved.” Thompson is also facing blowback for legislation he introduced in April that could strip Trump or anyone else of Secret Service protection after being convicted of a felony. In May, a jury convicted Trump on dozens of felony counts in a New York hush-money case. Sentencing has been postponed until at least September as Trump seeks to get the conviction thrown out. As noted by The Washington Times, Thompson insisted his bill “would not have affected the Secret Service’s presence” during the shooting at the Pennsylvania rally and will only apply to Trump if he is sentenced to prison and in the custody of another law enforcement agency.

Shapiro pointed to other attempted assassinations including the 2017 Congressional Baseball shooting where Majority Leader Steve Scalise was shot and the 2022 plot against Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s life. “The only person who is responsible for the actual shooting is the shooter,” he said. “When you keep saying that ‘America will be literally destroyed, this will be the last election, Donald Trump is the worst person who has ever lived and he must be stopped, someone is going to take that seriously and think to themselves’ ‘shouldn’t I do something to stop Hitler.” Shapiro went after the media for its response to the attack, including CNN’s Jamie Gangel who attacked Trump after he stood up with blood on his face and pumped his fist while shouting “fight, fight, fight.” “And this is the kind of dangerous rhetoric that could lead to violence,” Shapiro said. “You pathetic, sad sack a** clowns. Are you kidding me? Are you ‘effing kidding me? He’s the one who got shot. One of his supporters was murdered. He gets up and says ‘fight,’ on the basis of just almost getting murdered and your complaint is that his rhetoric is too heated?  Shapiro also criticized CBS News’s Margaret Brennan for lecturing Scalise about potential retaliatory Republican violence following the attempt on Trump’s life. “Somebody almost killed the former president of the United States and Margaret Brennan’s first move is to suggest that this might inspire Republican violence,” Shapiro said. “It seems to me the problem is not Republican violence. It seems to me the problem is someone trying to shoot the former president of the United States and leading presidential contender.” Shapiro concluded his show by encouraging his viewers to give generously to the GoFundMe for the family of Corey Comperatore, the man behind Trump who was killed. Former President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that he has canceled changes that he initially made to his travel schedule for the 2024 Republican National Convention this week after a man who donated to far-left causes shot him during an assassination attempt on Saturday at a political rally in Pennsylvania. “Based on yesterday’s terrible events, I was going to delay my trip to Wisconsin, and The Republican National Convention, by two days, but have just decided that I cannot allow a ‘shooter,’ or potential assassin, to force change to scheduling, or anything else,” Trump posted on social media. “Therefore, I will be leaving for Milwaukee, as scheduled, at 3:30 P.M. TODAY. Thank you! DJT” Trump added moments later: “UNITE AMERICA!” Trump is expected to speak in Milwaukee on Thursday, the last day of the event. He is expected to unveil who he has selected to be his vice president during the convention and not before. Earlier in the day, Trump said that “it was God alone who prevented the unthinkable from happening.” “We will FEAR NOT, but instead remain resilient in our Faith and Defiant in the face of Wickedness,” he said. “Our love goes out to the other victims and their families.
